Nearly fell off the wagon today but just managed to hold it together. A young and very strong Staffie made an unprovoked attack on my small old dog (has heart condition too). Could easily have killed her so I went into meltdown.

Could I ask you lovely people what time of day you weigh. I usually weigh about 5 o'clock before my evening meal but I had a quick morning weigh today and the difference is an amazing amount. I don't usually weigh early because I figure if I went to a weight loss class I wouldn't be there very early in the morning without any clothes on 😱

BitOutOfPractice · 04/05/2017 22:06

Squiffy eating chips on the bus is a capital offence Angry

Hello *sunshine8. Now sure if we've met I thing the three sensible meals with no snacking and eating healthier is the way to go.

Poorpaws, sorry about your dog!

I try to weigh in the morning before Ive had anything to eat. I am always much heavier in the evening.

poorpaws · 04/05/2017 22:27

Niki thank you for your quick response. If I take my morning naked weight I am so very nearly normal BMI BUT I might give up thinking I've just about done it so I think I'd better stick to my heavier 5 o'clock weigh ins.

I've done 4 Golden days, in my book that's nearly an Angel week 😇

BitOutOfPractice · 04/05/2017 22:47

Poorpaws your name seems very apt tonight. Hope your doggie is ok.

I too weigh naked first things. A girl has to pick the lie hanging fruit!

I like our new "currency". But I'd say 5 golden days is an angel week?

Softpebbles · 05/05/2017 07:34

I weigh first thing too. Just a shame the sad step seems to be bloody stuck - rahhhhh

BeyondStrongAndStable · 05/05/2017 08:05

I think the important thing about when to weigh, is to keep it the same. So it doesn't matter when or where, so long as you do the same each time.

I've stayed the same today (morning weigher in knickers Grin )
Just had muesli and blueberries with whole milk

Going to the theatre tonight so no idea what's gonna happen there foodwise

Sunshineandlaughter · 05/05/2017 08:06

I weigh first thing too - why put yourself through the torture of an evening weigh - plus it'll be more consistent as not dépendant on how much you've eaten or drank in day.

Gah sleepless night for me with baba having croup -means I'll be craving the carbs big time today. Going to try and just eat soup and toast for lunch and then veg tangine and mash for tea. Poss thinking at start of the day what you are allowed helps?

HairsprayBabe · 05/05/2017 08:07

I weigh naked first thing, I am not trying to make this any harder than it needs to be!

11 dead again for me today, had omelette and salad at MILs last night, but snaffled 4 huge chips of DPs plate.

Will have a pretty good weekend I think, no wild partying or massive amounts of food planned.

Sunshineandlaughter · 05/05/2017 08:07

Poor paws hope your dog is ok - what a shock

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 05/05/2017 08:34

Poorpaws your poor dog! Hope everything is ok.

Sunshine I definitely think having a plan for the day helps. Your planned meals sound really tasty too!

I weighed myself this morning (yep, first thing and no clothes) and I appear to have finally lost some weight! I am now about half a lb above my weight at the start of March. I would love to get under that weight by the end of the month but I lose weight so slowly! We shall see.

runningtogetskinny · 05/05/2017 08:48

I made chilli last night, plenty of veg in and added a sprinkling of cheese when served - I don't have rice with it. Enough for my tea tonight which means I won't be tempted by dp takeaway

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2017 08:48

Morning. Lost a bit more this morning so I've lost 5.2lbs of the six I put on in Barcelona. Hurrah!

I think having a plan for the day definitely helps. Well it does me anyway. Less likely to make impulsive decisions.

G'day you rippers

I've just had root canal work so please excuse me as I dribble onto the keyboard. Have been in agony with a sodding abscess and now I apparently have to have my tooth removed . I will be toothless crone for my trip back to Blighty in July. I will be a THIN toothless crone, but still . . .

Thanks for the kind words. For those that asked for my crap magazine story here we go:

Nov 2016 reached heaviest weight of 68.7 kg which on my 5'2" frame was too much. Had a shit year with dd v ill after a riding accident (traumatic brain injury), then I lost my job (was working as an Advisor for an MP who got voted out of office) and piled on the weight. Am in Oz so prospect of a hot summer as a FATSO wasn't great so my brain finally clicked into gear and I decided to start running and get fit.

Nov - Dec started C25K and Parkrun, was shit at it, but kept going. Decided to cut out all sugar, shit junk food, and concentrate on protein and vegetables with home made museli and fruit for breakfast. Tried to only have 2 meals a day.

Jan - March all going well, decided to cut out alcohol - which with Jan in Oz as the holiday season was a bit of a stretch but actually it was great. I was running, no hangovers, not empty booze calories and felt amazing.

Got faster at running (5km in 27 mins) steadily losing weight and being NAILS about it all. Totally determined. No junk foods (incl sugar, desserts, sweets, choc etc), loads of veg, booze creeping back in (am only human).

Had a blip when I injured myself running and couldn't exercise but have basically stuck to my regime since Nov and lost 12kg +.

Now 56.4kg and feel great. Today am wearing a skirt I bought when I was about 18 and it FITS! Will post a pic hang on . . .

HairsprayBabe · 05/05/2017 09:20

Good effort Boop I have only lost four of the NINE how is that even possible?!!! pounds I gained in London.

Keeping my fingers tightly crossed for a woosh over the weekend, but it means it will be a bit on the dull side sadly, might have to go shopping to distract myself Grin

Archduke · 05/05/2017 09:24

Bollox can't get a pic but imagine an extremely glamorous woman - then delete that image and think of a short, middle aged woman who is now thinner than she was and smiles a lot.

Oh the maintenance thing . . . that really scares me. I don't know how to do it.

Will now go back and respond to all the chat!

QuimReaper · 05/05/2017 10:07

Wowzer Archie it sounds so hardcore when you lay it all out like that!

I am seriously seriously impressed. To put that into perspective I have (or had, before America) lost just under 10kg total, and it took me about a year - you lost more than that in less than half the time. The first 5 went pretty easily but the next five have been soooooo slooooow and I'm back up again a bit now. The no junk, no booze at all thing has clearly been so effective - you definitely get the thread Star for plugging away at it!

I am also really impressed that you've got your 5K time down in such a short period. I got to 5K in 30 mins on the treadmill but not sure I could have done it outside the gym, and now can't run for more than 2 bloody minutes. You've inspired me to think a few weeks' dedication and it might start to get a bit easier.

Wowzer BOOP, well done on smashing your metabolic age! I'm not clear on what that means but it has to be a good thing! And for smashing thorugh the Cava Lindas too (that sounds like a fancy Spanish villa, doesn't it). I don't think I'm going to have made much progress this week with two good days and two bad, hopefully I haven't made it any worse though. Not sure whether to even bother weighing in today...

QuimReaper · 05/05/2017 10:13

Poorpaws that is terrible about your dog Sad Mine has been badly attacked twice, the last one by a pack of huskies! He's only a placid little Jack, it's so horrible. How is she now?

To answer your question, like t'others I try and weigh before I've eaten anything. I use the BMI machines in Boots because I feel they give a more accurate reading, so I can't do it first thing (much less starkers Grin but I feel if I eat anything I'm not getting a real reading, and the margins are so narrow for me now that half a Linda would throw me.

Good point about Weight Watchers style places though, and as Beyond says consistency is the key.

Well done Spurious!

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2017 10:22

That's very interesting archie thank you. Basically it's what we all know. Eat (and drink) less and move more and keep on sticking to it and it'll work. I hope you know I'm not being glib saying that because I know you must've worked your arse off doing that but the mechanics of it are really quite simple I guess.

I have lost 25kg in almost exactly a year. There have been blips (holidays, Christmas etc) but it has general been a downward trend. I've done that by sticking to 1200 calories day in day out, week in week out and exercising 5 days a week. In the end it was easier once I realised that that is all (all!!) I needed to do. Not rocket science I guess. But so bloody hard to actually do!

Quim I love the sound of Cava Lindas as a holiday destination Grin

BeyondStrongAndStable · 05/05/2017 10:38

I'm not worrying about maintenance til I get there!! Grin

Trying to decide what to eat for the rest of the day. No idea if we're going out for food tonight, so need to save some calories for that. Think I'll take a pack of nuts with me (individual pack is 150cals) and plan to eat that, then if we do have food I can always leave out the nuts.

FreeNiki · 05/05/2017 10:44

You'd be surprised who doesn't know though. A friend of mine on facebook in the US has gone and joined one of these companies pyramid schemes called It Works.

They sell supplements, shakes and mostly a herbal body wrap you apply to your skin. The supplements are called fat fighters.....!

She is still very overweight months later.

I want to tell her that The It Works products don’t work. You cannot lose cellulite with a body wrap or burn fat with supplements. This has been scientifically proven over and over again. It doesn’t work. You can’t “melt” fat away with herbal wraps and pills. Caloric deficit is the only way to burn fat, and cellulite can be shrunk in size, but not in quantity.

Losing weight is a maths problem: calories in v calories out but alot of people think they can avoid the reality.

QuimReaper · 05/05/2017 10:46

25KG Shock That is in. credible. And actually averages out at just a bit over the famed "pound a week", doesn't it? Everyone always says that's a good rate to shoot for, but I bet very few people manage it over a whole year.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2017 10:50

Quim if you count all the times I've gained and had to lose the lindas again it would be twice that I reckon Grin

Niki you're right. But because it's so hard there's always someone looking for a quick fix I guess. All the programmes that work - MFP, WW, SW, 5:2 etc all work on the eat less than you use principle

OP posts:
HairsprayBabe · 05/05/2017 10:54

I don't like measuring in kilos, makes it seem less impressive XD

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2017 11:00

I though KGs would make it easier for the forriner Archie Wink

I've lost 55.5lbs in old money! Half a pound off 4 stone
