Small amount to lose but want support?

NewYearNewNickname · 18/04/2017 08:04

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Well done everyone btw, some great tips on this thread!

Joinourclub · 02/05/2017 11:14

So, inspired by this thread I downloaded mfp yesterday. Inputting everything meant that I massively reduced my snacking! And stuck to water for drinks. It predicted that I could get down to my target weight by June, so before my holiday! I'm really going to try hard this time, I would feel so great to get some way back towards my pre kid body.

eltsihT · 02/05/2017 18:02

I don't really want to start counting Calories if I can help it. I just want to cut down on snack and portions. But if the weight isn't shifting I will try mfp.

I did really well last night dh ate an whole Easter egg while we were watching to and I just made myself a glass of Hot water mixed 50/50 with fruit juice.

Today I resisted the biscuits at work and had home made celery soup and a yoghurt for lunch.

I forgot myself and ate some sweet potatoes chips as I was dishing up the dc tea. I must try harder not to eat/finish off their dinner. Tonight we are having prawn jambalaya so I am looking forward to that.

eltsihT · 02/05/2017 18:05

Join our club that is great you have a target. I have a wedding in 4 weeks and would really like to shift a few lbs before then otherwise I think my dress might be a touch tight

blowawayblonde · 02/05/2017 18:05

Can I join? I am about the same, want to lose a stone by July.

The kids drive me to biscuits, any top tips as to how to avoid this? Post school, getting their homework done is my diet killer time.

Giddyaunt18 · 02/05/2017 19:38

eltish I do that, before I know it i've popped bits of food in my mouth while I am cooking a healthy meal. All of those bits add up when you finish off the DC's plates too. I am feeling trimmer on the tummy since not snacking and finding that quite easy. No snacking at all is easier for me as once I start picking it wakes up my tummy and I want more. Really enjoying porridge in the morning with a few seeds sprinkled on it and some cinnamon and blueberries; I really look forward to it. I am avoiding bread at lunch in favour of salad with avocado, egg or fish. Evening meal is as usual but watching the portion of carbs. Lovely dog walk today over the fields too.

NewYearNewNickname · 03/05/2017 07:18

Not sure what is going on with my weightloss! Am being really careful to log all food and weigh it, did body pump last Fri, Attack Sat, Balance Sun and Pump on Mon so definitely hitting it with the exercise too and this morning I am 10st 1.6lbs!!!

Have a bootcamp booked for later so will just have to keep trying.

Well done to this who have lost Smile

Don't worry Newyear just a fluctuation in water probably. With all that cardio you're bound to have shifted more weight unless you've been eating more but I'm sure you haven't. Sometimes it plateaus then a few lbs drop off together.
Fingers crossed. In the past when my weight loss has stalled I do a day or 2 of no starchy carbs so only meat, fish and veg/fruit.

Giddyaunt18 · 03/05/2017 07:27

Newyear your body is Shock with all the exercise and holding on for dear life! Grin

PaintingOwls · 03/05/2017 11:04

I am starving this morning and desperate for 12pm to roll around so that I can have my lunch (vegan pasta bolognese).

I think the issue is that I'm not getting enough sleep. Angry I usually need a bit more sleep than average anyway, and that just increases with exercise. I'm going to try to have an early night tonight as this is the second day in a row that I've rolled into work late!

How's everyone else doing?

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 03/05/2017 12:54

New maybe you are converting fat to muscle, which weighs more. If your body shape is changing for the better then what the scales say shouldn't get you down. Keep at it!!

I had a blip at the weekend so didn't weigh myself on Sunday/Monday. However, weighed myself today and I'm 10 stone 2....hurrah! Aiming to have shifted those 2 pounds by this time next week. I feel very inspired by almost being at 10 stone - just imagining how exciting it would feel to step on the scales and for that 10 to have changed to a 9 for the first time!

Painting, I read somewhere that the best thing you can do for any diet is to make sure you don't eat for 12 hours overnight each day. So if you want to have breakfast at 7 a.m., you must not eat anything after 7 p.m. I do this (apart from at the weekends when the wine bottle comes out and the cheese follows...) and it does seem to help. So have that early night and enjoy it.

blowawayblonde I put all our biscuits in a biscuit tin and when I really want one, I remind myself silently that children's grubby, snotty, been-down-the-trousers fingers have probably been all over them and I find that makes it easier to stay away. I'm squeamish about children scratching themselves/picking their noses and then touching things, even though I have honestly never seen my own children do either thing!

This time last week I was asking for tips on how to avoid the booze and then I had Wednesday night wine. Today I am so excited by weight loss that I don't even think I'd want wine if it was handed to me in a crystal goblet and had no calories in it!!!!

Keep going everyone. It's ok to be hungry and tired sometimes.

PaintingOwls · 03/05/2017 14:58

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired

I feel like I really identify with your user name today!

I don't eat after 8pm anyway as I have issues with silent reflux and won't have breakfast until I'm at work at 9am, so that's fine.

My pasta lunch didn't make me feel better, I'm kicking myself for not making something with more vegetables. I might just have a head of broccoli for dinner Envy

I have 2 hours and 2 minutes until I can go home...

Giddyaunt18 · 03/05/2017 15:08

Hot drinks help. Try miso soup if you like a savoury flavour. You can get little sachets to bring to work.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 03/05/2017 15:25

PaintingOwls stay strong...not long to go till the end of the day. I second Giddyaunt - hot drinks really do help to keep the hunger pangs at bay. If you want to have a vegetable based tea (which I do very often) then don't just have a head of broccoli, have something like sweet potato or butternut squash to fill you up. A baked sweet potato with veg or meat chilli and some half fat soured cream is good for the soul!

blowawayblonde · 03/05/2017 20:11

I went for tuna salad for dinner, the tuna mixed with Greek yoghurt and chilli to make a dressing for a veg and leaf combo.

Made double, so can have some for lunch tomorrow.

alwayshungry good tip for the tin. Sadly my levels of grim tolerance are sky high, my kids are young and disgusting. I am just going to have to build will power, or crap biscuits.

FitbitAddict · 03/05/2017 21:42

Can I join? I went on holiday last summer weighing about 2kg more than I wanted to, and since I got back have never managed to regain that pre-holiday weight and have put more on! I started immediately after Easter at 61kg and was 57.9 this morning. I'm aiming for 55.2kg by 27 May when we go away for half term, then 53kg when we go away in the summer 8 weeks later. It's doable, with some effort.

Losing weight is 80% about what you eat and 20% exercise, apparently. I'm a vegetarian who eats a lot of vegan meals. Most weekends I make buckets of soup and dhal and then eat it all week, but I'm getting a bit bored and craving pizza! I use MFP as a food diary without a particular set amount of calories in mind. I'm practically sugar free since I gave it up for Lent and tried to get back on the wagon again once I'd dealt with the Easter goodies.

Exercise wise, I run 3 times a week and have booked myself onto some core and legs, bums and tums classes at the gym. I did the core class yesterday as I definitely need to do more than just run.

Hope we can all help each other along in the right direction. I could do with some accountability!

NewYearNewNickname · 03/05/2017 22:00

Thanks for the encouragement, it really helps Grin

I had considered the building muscle thing but not sure it's true for me atm! Bootcamp was brutal tonight, I thought it was 30mins and it turned out to be 45 mins!! Felt good after though.

Always you have provided me with my dinner inspiration tomorrow, baked sweet pot with veggie chilli it is Grin

Hope you got through the rest of the day ok Painting There are always going to be tough days!!

always I love that tip about the biscuit tin!
new year I am in awe of your gym sessions & hopefully it will give me the kick up the backside I need to ensure I go tomorrow. I haven't been for a fortnight as DH has been away a lot with work so I've had to be home with the children in the evenings.
An OK day today:

  • banana
  • frusli bar as I had the late morning munchies
  • jacket potato with salad, baked beans & too much cheese
  • apple
  • soup
  • grapes
  • sliver of Edam
eltsihT · 04/05/2017 06:28

I feel like I am doing really well. Just hope it starts no snacking at all this week. Just need to cut out eating as I am cooking.

However dh goes away today for up to a week. This means I get bored in the evening and makes it harder not to snack. Also some of my friends tend to come over and that inevitability leads to wine

PaintingOwls · 04/05/2017 08:39

Hope you got through the rest of the day ok Painting There are always going to be tough days!!

Thanks New Year I managed to drag myself through. I think I was just bored and had too much free time to focus on food. Dinner was a lovely jacket potato and I saved most of the mash for lunch today to manage my carbs.

Still tired this morning, but it's not long to go until the weekend! I have parkrun on Saturday, which should perk me up.

Last night I discovered SweetPotatoSoul on YouTube and I'm feeling inspired by the $35/week food budget and the recipes. I'm going to try a similar thing to bring down my shopping bill as I waste so much money on gimmicky impulse-buys.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 04/05/2017 09:42

New and Painting, sweet potatoes are the dieters friend! Just use them instead of real potatoes/rice/couscous (or use cauliflower rice/couscous) and watch the pounds melt away. They are a vegetable rather than a 'starchy' vegetable, but they fill you up like a potato does. I do sweet potato mash, sweet potato fries, baked sweet potato, roasted sweet potatoes, sweet potato wedges... they have become a staple on my shopping list and my children and husband have adopted them too! I also do carrot/swede mash (using frozen veg for convenience) sometimes if I'm making mash for the kids and need to avoid it.

I was still 10 stone 2 this morning so I am doing something right. Last night's dinner was a healthy Thai curry and I packed it with chicken and vegetables and didn't have any of the rice that I cooked for everyone else.

Home made kebabs and salad for dinner tonight. No pitta bread for me but extra mounds of salad and maybe some of those sweet potato fries Wink.

Good luck everyone for another good day. Let's drive the scales down.

Chocolatecake12 · 04/05/2017 13:12

I'm another half pound down!! The walking is really paying off and I've managed to resist the sweet stuff too.
I'm hoping to get into my dress for my best friends wedding in July - it's beginning to feel like I'll achieve it now.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 04/05/2017 15:55

Yay ChocolateCake GOOD WORK!!!!

OwlinaTree · 04/05/2017 17:52

alwayshungry that is interesting what you say about sweet potato being a better option than a normal potato. I've looked at the nutritional info on line but couldn't see much difference in the carb content to a normal potato? Am I looking at the wrong thing?

Giddyaunt18 · 04/05/2017 17:55

Owlina It's still a carb but classed as one of your 5 a day due to it's highly nutritious nature. You can't eat them like carrots and I still would eat a small portion of them when in a diet as they are a potato after all.
