Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Well done giddy!

butlerchauffer · 26/05/2017 07:21

Morning all, yes! Saw 9 on the scales for the first time this year! 9 13.4 so overall have lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks, tho the last two pounds have been v slow. I am sticking with the No S thing and like it, don't miss the sugar. Half term next week so must be strong in the face of SNACKS! This is a lovely thread. Have reset my password ( i'd forgotten it) so I can log in on my fone and take you with me ;-). Well done on the losses this week. Slowly but surely we are getting there x

OwlinaTree · 26/05/2017 08:23

Well done butler, it's a great feeling to get into that next stone!

theredjellybean · 26/05/2017 11:33

73.0 kg on scales this mornning...so have losy 1.7 kg in 3 weeks , which is about 3.5 lbs, so pleased as had big blow out last weekend which went from friday to tuesday :(

also had my fastest ever 10 km run this morning, shaved 7 secs of my average km split time, so very pleased.

my goal is to see 72 kg...could do it in 2 weeks if i am good, but away mon-friday with dds and dsds...mmmm...lots of prosecco and crisp ..will just try my best

theredjellybean · 26/05/2017 11:38

owlina i also find goals regarding clothing is better than scales.
the scales can fluctuate widley in a week and due to allsorts of stuff, i get really despondent by them, but aiming to get into a fave dress which is a szie 10 say might be a better goal. i have been steadily increasing tm running since jan, to about 10 km every other day and the scales are not shifting much but i can now easily get into summer clothes that i bought 3 years ago when the scales said i was 5 kg lighter, and last yr the same clothes were bloody tight and uncomfortable.
happily sipping up my fave little shift dress and it was nto tight meant more to me than seeing a movement on the scales

Orangecake123 · 26/05/2017 12:35

Well done on the losses everyone!

I'm back from the gym- I'm feeling yucky due to hormones so didn't bother weigh myself this week.

PaintingOwls · 26/05/2017 17:26

Well done on the losses, everyone!

I also have a clothes target - a pair of jeans. When I bought them I couldn't get them over my hips. Then I could. Now I can do them up but not move so my goal is weight as well as wearing those jeans comfortably. And they are proper jeans which don't stretch so I can't cheat!

I've been on a career-changing course this week which has been incredibly full-on with two exams. There were endless biscuits and a 2 hour commute across London each way, very early starts and homework each night. I am just shattered and never want to see another biscuit again.

I'm also on my period and bloated to hell, so I haven't dared to weigh myself.

I'm hoping that I have the strength to get up tomorrow morning for Parkrun!

Hi all

I'm on a family holiday this week (UK) so will need some serious resolve to stay on track! I've packed my running and yoga gear so hoping to squeeze in some exercise. Yesterday was a disaster as we were on the road for hours (bank him traffic) so dinner was sandwiches and then I had the munchies last night once we finally arrived. But it's only one day so I'm not too worried.
My big question is this, I have been eating really well (watching calories in MFP and sticking to NoS principle), and exercising regularly for about 4 weeks now and my weight has completely plateaued - after the first week -and I feel quite bloated especially around my waist. I also am struggling with very sluggish bowels despite eating LOTS of vegetables and some fruit and tonnes of water. Maybe it's my age but I really thought I'd feel and weigh less by now. Any tips from anyone further down the road? At this rate I'm wondering if I will ever reach my goal. Don't worry I'm certainly not giving up because at least I'm not gaining and this WOE is MUCH healthier and more mindful, but I'm wondering if I need to do 5:2 or something to trigger more weight loss. I'd rather not though!

Bumblebzz · 27/05/2017 07:53

*bank holiday traffic

(Which was truly horrendous, we did 25 miles in 3 hours. I could have walked that!)

Giddyaunt18 · 27/05/2017 12:33

Hi Bumble are you eating very little carbs? When I did a low carb diet my bowels slowed right down. When I switched to brown rice and pasta things improved even though I eat smaller portions of them. You could help things along with a few prunes/dries apricots or similar.
Have a great holiday!

Giddyaunt18 · 27/05/2017 12:35

Oh and my 'bowel fixer' that always works for me is a couple of weetabix.

Bumblebzz · 27/05/2017 14:20

Thanks @Giddy, I haven't cut out carbs completely but I am eating way less bread, pasta etc in an attempt to control calories so maybe I need to up those.

theredjellybean · 28/05/2017 08:13

some one come and slap me...i am going mad...so started at 74.7 then went to 73.0 then 73.6 then back to 73.0....and overnight have gone yp to 74.2 again ( and i did not have a blow out day yesterday) ...the scales at work have consistently weighed me in at 71.1 kgs over the last 3 days, and today i am wearing a summer dress that last year ( weighing 74 kg) i couldn't get done up and today is is loosish..well comfortable, certainly not tight.
i feel really despondent about scales at home, i know that the figure on the scales in not the one that is important..its the figure in the mirror but feel like screaming at moment

Giddyaunt18 · 28/05/2017 08:54

Are you more toned jelly than last year? Could it be muscle as it's heavier than fat? Other than that it's just water fluctuations, but I feel exactly the same when it's me.I'm going to try to balance of cals over a few days so on Friday night I ate more than planned and had wine so yesterday I slept late and didn't eat until lunch. Will do the same today as I've just done 25 mins on the exercise bike and don't feel hungry yet. Hopefully it will avoid the weekend gain. Will let you all know.

theredjellybean · 28/05/2017 09:15

thank you..i know rationally yes it is toning and some muscle as i am now running regularly , and hitting 10 km three times a week with a fourth short fast run aswell...and i usually advise people not to weigh every day as flutuations are going to happen ..but i want those damm scales to drop !!!!!!
maybe i should just drop them..perhaps out the bathroom window :)
well done on exercise bike..i hate them ...

Orangecake123 · 28/05/2017 12:03

I said i wouldn't weigh as I'm due AF in a few days, but I checked anyway- 70.7kg! Down 2lbs since I last weighed in. Total so for this month - 3.8 pounds and we're not officially done yet. Feeling proud of myself because I honestly haven't ever stuck with anything this long!
New target weight is now 68kg ~150lbs.

@theredjellybean- it may not be dropping the way you want it to but you've still made great progress going from 74.7-> your current weight. Keep your chin up!

theredjellybean · 28/05/2017 14:02

thank you orangecake ( which btw sounds yummy) i must remember that..have lost some and definitely look better and generally feeling posiitve about body again as summer clothes alll feel looser than last summer when they were ummm...very tight !!
well done on weigh tloss and when hormonal too...

Giddyaunt18 · 28/05/2017 20:12

What is AF? Keep reading it on various threads.

OwlinaTree · 28/05/2017 22:43

Aunt Flo, your period.

FitbitAddict · 29/05/2017 04:36

Morning all

No loss for me over last two weeks, which seems to be a familiar story here! We got caught up in the Heathrow chaos on Saturday and are now back at the airport on our second attempt at going on holiday. We couldn't get a flight yesterday and haven't seen our luggage since Saturday morning!

DH was expecting further chaos here so we arrived at 4.20 and then discovered that the security services and everything else open at 5am!! Thank God Costa is open already, although of the dozen people in here only 4 are awake.

I've packed my running gear but I don't know whether it will join me in holiday or not, so there might not be much running going on!

Giddyaunt18 · 29/05/2017 08:57

Thanks, owlina I've never heard that one before!

Oh no Fitbit what a mare, hope you get to your destination today.

Well, I am still down at 9st 10(136lb) after the weekend Grin whereas I normally bounce back up a pound then lose it again. so it seems that balancing the extra cals by skipping breakfast has worked, I did walk 7 miles yesterday though. I guess I am finding a combination of diets that work for me.A combination of NO S, overnight fasting and healthy gut food. I told my DH yesterday that i'd lost 6lb in 5 weeks and he said he didn't even know I was dieting. That's what I want, a normal way of eating that is long term.

Giddyaunt18 · 29/05/2017 09:27

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3511679/How-diet-sleep-Yes-sounds-good-true-doctor-reveals-weight-loss-regime-s-blissfully-simple-effective.html

Interesting ideas in this article especially about small fasts.

theredjellybean · 29/05/2017 10:30

i am sorry but found some of this article ridiculous and bad science ...
i already don't eat breakfast due to not being hungry early in the mornings and having nausea due to my bad reflux disease. I effectively fast most days from 8 pm until 11 am ...has done nothing for my weight loss.
whats more if you read down you will see that he then goes on to say on non fasting days you need to stick to below 1000 calories ...err...that would make pretty much anyone lose weight...so he starts by saying total calories do not matter so much its are hormones making us fat and then tells you to pretty much fast 16 - 24 hrs a few times a week and eat less then 1000 calories on other days .
so lets do the maths . say i ate 1000 calories on 5 out of 7 days that = 5000 calories , and i faasted 24 hrs on day 6 and on day 7 fasted 16 hrs so ate a little less than on non fasting days ..lets say 800 calories

my weekly total is 5800 calories or an average of 827 calories per day.

to lose weight you need to eat 500 calories less each day from your basic metabolic requirement ( mine with my currrent weight and running regime is apparently 2100 calories per day ) .
If i followed this doctor's regime i would be so seriously defiecient in calories, yes wieght would drop off but i would probably be on the floor with exhaustion too .

NICE reccomeds very low calories diets for morbidly obese, and these start at around 500 cal per day, the doctor's regime would have me only having 327 cals more on average.

all the fasting diets 5;2 etc work because on average over a week you are just consuming less calories than you need or are using.

theredjellybean · 29/05/2017 10:31

i have not lost weight this last week becuase i have just honestly added up the calories i have consumed in alcohol since friday ....and am a bit Blush

Giddyaunt18 · 29/05/2017 11:50

jelly I am interested in simple ideas. 5:2 worked for me but I found it hard to sustain with family meals etc. I like the NO S but as I am not overweight as such, need to reduce cals more or counteract weekend relaxation , so the breakfast thing works for me as I normally always eat it. this way I can still indulge a little at the weekend as I have cut about 300 cals off by not eating breakfast.I think we have to see what works for us as individuals . I am more interested in the health benefits of the fast than the weight loss but I'll take it.
