Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Well done redjellybean and others on losses...great work!

Feeling depressed after weighing myself this morning. 10 stone 2.5, so actually a pound up on last week. Why????? I've been so good. Literally the only thing I have been doing differently is allowing myself one cup of 'real' caffeinated coffee, with skimmed milk, for breakfast. My daily meals are a banana for breakfast (or sometimes a bio yoghurt instead); tuna or ham or chicken and lots of salad (but absolutely no mayo/carbs/dressed salad) at lunchtime and then a controlled portion of an evening meal (good protein fish/chicken/meat and lots of veggies), often with no carbs or with sweet potato instead of a potato option. The occasional glass of red wine.

I walk for an hour a day and do yoga for one and a half hours a week. I HATE running and swimming and cycling.

Can anyone suggest a way to give my weight loss a boost? So desperate now to get under the 10 stone mark. I started at 11 stone 8 so I have been losing well, but seem to be stuck now. Everything I read says lower calorie intake (not sure that's feasible) or more exercise (but I am time poor and in a sit-down job). I feel a bit like I'm running into a brick wall. Sad

It sounds like your body is just used to the status quo, AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired you need to make your heart pump and sweat a bit. Why don't you try Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred for a week or so? That's where I started! I only started running when the DVD stopped challenging me and I realised I had gotten fitter. Parts one and two are on YouTube. Give it a go and see how you feel and if it makes a difference to the scales.

My update is that this morning's weight is 65kg bang on! I wasn't expecting it and I am very, very happy.

To address my Schrödinger's iron situation I have dug out the spirulina powder I have and bought some apple juice fortified with vitamin C. I'm going to drink a teaspoon with 150ml of juice a day for a month and see if that makes a difference.

It did make me feel a little bit sick but I chased it down with a square of chocolate, which helped

Hi everyone, I've not posted here before. I have a few lbs to lose (about half a stone) and am trying from today to write everything down that I'm eating and measure out portions and cut out sugar and snacking.

Breakfast was measured oatmeal, eaten at 7:30am with a small spoon of berries on top. It is now 10:30am and my stomach is growling with hunger. What should I do?! Ignore it until lunchtime or eat something?

Orangecake123 · 17/05/2017 10:54

Back from the gym- week 11 day 1 of c210k app.

@theredjellybean= well done on the huge losses!

@wtfdoicare= you will lose weight overall as long as you have a calorie deficit. It might sound simplistic, but do what is best for you. If you can't wait ave something small. i've just had lunch and it's not even 12 yet!

PaintingOwls · 17/05/2017 11:17

Wtfdoicare could you have breakfast later? I have mine at 9am when I get into work and that carries me through to lunch.

As for today, I would just hold out until 12 and have your lunch then. Keep yourself busy in the meantime!

Wtfdoicare · 17/05/2017 11:28

Thanks both, I had a carrot! Yes, I could certainly have breakfast later actually, didn't think of that. I'm so used to having it when the kids have theirs. I'll get to 12:30 no problems!

PaintingOwls · 17/05/2017 11:40

There was some research into eating habits which had 2 groups of people eat the same amount of food they usually would — but one had breakfast later and dinner earlier and the other didn't. The group with the longer fasting time between dinner and breakfast lost weight despite eating the same amount of calories.

Really interesting stuff: BBC.co.uk/news/magazine-35290671

That's really interesting Painting! Thank you, I'll take a look.

We are getting spammed Hmm

Giddyaunt18 · 17/05/2017 13:53

Yes Nathan one post and link is enough!
Always that's a real bummer. I can't see anything that you are eating that could be a culprit apart from maybe too little? A banana for breakfast followed by a salad with lean protein is not many calories. Could your body be clinging on to what it has? Try some porridge with berries for breakfast or a couple of poached eggs with spinach/mushrooms maybe? I'm still at 9st 11 midweek but I am enjoying what I'm eating and feel good. I have been having oats in the morning(bircher today) a quinoa(made too much at the weekend!) salad at lunch and restricted portion of whatever the family are having which is a healthy meal.

Giddyaunt18 · 17/05/2017 13:55

wtf It's ok for your tummy to growl, it's digesting your food. Have a hot drink.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 17/05/2017 15:16

Thanks Giddy. Can't wait to see 9 st 11.... one day!

Brilliant to have this forum to post on when I hit a plateau so that I don't just give up and turn to the chocolate and/or wine. I'm having a good day so far today. You never know, tomorrow a pound might suddenly have dropped off again! I did weigh before going to the loo this morning...! Hmm

Giddyaunt18 · 17/05/2017 15:39

Always it happened to me last Friday. I was the same all week and then on Saturday morning a pound off. I have read that eating salty things and or carbs can make you retain a lot of water. You need to drink more to retain less apparently. I'm downing the water today!

Bumblebzz · 18/05/2017 07:05

Morning all, feeling a bit flat today (and yesterday to be honest). I've managed to stick to the MFP daily allowance (1590 for me which seems high compared to what I see on other posts/threads!) but feel very very tired and well... flat. I wonder if it's the sudden-ish switch from sweet food/sugar? Anyway, definitely need some motivational tips as I am sick of listening to myself.
I am drinking more herbal tea than ever before, it's the one thing that gets me through the lulls between meals...but any other survival tips gratefully accepted! AT least I have a lovely bowl of bircher to look forward to this morning (i'm trying to delay breakfast as long as possible though).

PaintingOwls · 18/05/2017 08:53

Morning Bumblebzz! Keep going, it's almost certainly the lack of sugar, it's addictive stuff. I went through a similar phase when I gave up coffee, it'll pass, just hang in there!

The only advise I have is to go for a brisk walk or a little stretch if you're sitting down a lot to increase your heart rate and change your environment if you spend all day at work/home. It's amazing but I am a sleepy zombie at my desk, but as soon as it's home time I get a burst if energy and I'm good to go! Funny, isn't it? Wink

What have you set MFP to lose per week? Mine is on 1/4 kg per week and my calories are 1510. I usually try to leave 10-50 calories left over in case I underestimated some food along the way, e.g. I don't believe that every apple I eat is 89 calories but that's the standard average so I just go with it.

As for me, I weighed in at 64.9kg this morning!!! However, my period is due next week ish so I'm expecting my weight to go up and bloat etc. Still, seeing that move to 4 made my morning! It's the little things.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 18/05/2017 08:58

Well done PaintingOwls that's such good news!

I weighed again this morning after feeling flat yesterday and have lost a quarter of a pound! No doubt it will be back on tomorrow but I am going to take GiddyAunts advice and drink an ocean of water today in an effort to keep it off or perhaps even lose a little more before the old Friday weigh in tomorrow. I've had natural yoghurt and fruit compote for breakfast with a tiny handful of granola and I'm feeling good so far today.

Bumblebzz the lack of sugar can make you feel flat - you'll probably feel fantastic tomorrow with a sudden rush of energy if you can just make it past this little bumpy day today.

Good luck everyone for a very successful Thursday ahead of Friday weigh in!

Orangecake123 · 18/05/2017 10:19

Back from the gym. ;) I had a wonderful high and felt awesome leaving.

Great stuff PaintingOwls!

theredjellybean · 18/05/2017 12:39

alwaystired..it might be the banana ?? they are high in natural sugars ...i treat them as a treat...once a week max

try protein for breakfast instead ??

thankyou everyone for nice comments

really helps me feel positive

Giddyaunt18 · 18/05/2017 13:18

Always I drank loads yesterday and I have gone to the toilet and not for a wee(sorry tmi) several times today. I had been feeling a bit bloated so maybe there is truth in the water thing. Scales are the same but my tummy feels flatter so hopefully if I keep this up it will help with the loss. Regardless of weight loss I feel really good, plenty of energy, sleeping really well too. I've been trying to incorporate good gut food too after watching Michael Mosley's last programme. Last night i had a 2 egg omelette with some crumbles blue cheese in it with spinach and mushrooms and it was delish! Nice to know that a bit of cheese is good for my guts lol!!

Giddyaunt18 · 18/05/2017 13:19

crumbled bot crumbles

Giddyaunt18 · 18/05/2017 13:20

Oh and well done painting Star

Wtfdoicare · 18/05/2017 14:02

I managed a later breakfast this morning (9:20am) rather than my usual 7am one, and it sure did the trick, I was full until 1:30pm when I had lunch! I also managed a 5 mile run this morning (I run mostly every other day but this week haven't been able to get out much due to lots of work....sitting down all day) and it felt really good!

Giddy your omelette sounds delicious. I tried making one mid week with lots of veges but always seem to fail at getting it cooked and still staying an omelette - yet again I had rather charred scrambled egg :(

Giddyaunt18 · 18/05/2017 17:36

wtf a good non stick pan is your friend. Swirl the mixture round the pan and when the sides start to cook, bring the sides in slightly with a spatula to let the wet bits slide to the edge, when nearly cooked add the cheese and fold over. Also don't put too many veggies in the omelette. I only put spring onion and tomato chopped into a dice into the pan before the egg mixture. Serve the veggies separately. I am not a chef! Just what works for me.
