Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Weigh day for me! Another 1lb lost, yay!
Slow but steady - what I want & expect as I'm not doing a crazy crash diet or loads of exercise or anything, just being more sensible about portion sizes and snacks etc.

So:
Starting weight 9 stone 11
Last weigh in 9 stone 10
Today's weigh in 9 stone 9
Target weight 9 stone 6 (by mid June for my holiday!!)

I can do this!!

Buck3t · 15/05/2017 08:21

Bumblebzz - thanks. Using exercise as my get out of jail free card doesn't work (no matter what John Travolta said 20 years ago in a "smash hits" interview. Wink

Butterfly to paraphrase Obama "yes you can"

Bumblebzz · 15/05/2017 10:12

@Buck3t you do so shedloads of activity so you are probably 99% muscle anyway (which is denser than fat or so I'm told).
I'm also a keen yogi, well trying to get back into it properly after lots of on/off periods during pregnancies etc. I first took up astangya about 20 years ago but can't find a class very near me so currently doing some flow type classes which are similar. Do you go to classes 3/4 times a week or practice at home?

Orangecake123 · 15/05/2017 11:23

I was curious and checked today : I'm down almost half a pound, but not quite at 0.4lbs. Current weight is 71.9kg. New target weight 70kg. Just got to keep going with the flow.

Giddyaunt18 · 15/05/2017 13:03

Well done Bumble and glad the bircher was good. I looked at the weather this morning and made good old hot porridge with a bit of cinnamon!
It's been said before but I think weight is 80% diet and 20% activity unless you are running big distances . My DH cycles 100+ miles a week and can get away with eating anything!

Giddyaunt18 · 15/05/2017 13:04

Well done on all the losses! Butterfly you are soon close!

Giddyaunt18 · 15/05/2017 13:04

sooooo even!

Bumblebzz · 15/05/2017 21:21

Well today was hard, I felt hungry and tired most of the day. I think my default when I am tired must be to turn to sweet stuff, so I'm relieved I've managed to get through the day on track. Safely tucked up in bed now away from temptation! Hope you all had a good start to the week.

Orangecake123 · 16/05/2017 06:38

@Bumblebzz - well done for resisting!

I want to try the 5:2 diet, so today will be my first fast day as I'm already taking it easy today anyway.

PaintingOwls · 16/05/2017 08:58

65.5kg this morning!!

It's strange but I don't feel slimmer or smaller? When I lost the first kilo-ish I felt lighter so it's a shame that feeling hasn't lingered. My dress is looser on me, which is nice, but I don't yet fit into the jeans a size below.

I've got Bircher on the go this morning because I'm still tired and when I'm tired I get hungry. I keep waking up about 1 hour before my alarm, which is maddening. I need more sleep!! Is anyone else tired?

Bumblebzz · 16/05/2017 12:37

@Painting I'm permanently tired! Are you doing more exercise than you used to? That might explain it. Yesterday I really felt like I'd overdone it. I just felt physically completely shattered - which is why I went to bed so early. It's made me think a vitamin/iron supplement might be an idea - am going to pick some up today.
Good news is I woke up feeling a bit better today so I went for a little run before breakfast. Tomorrow I'm enforcing a rest day though, exercise can get addictive.

PaintingOwls · 16/05/2017 12:46

Bumblebzz I'm running once a week, 5k on Saturdays, so I didn't think that it would drag on into the week?

Giddyaunt18 · 16/05/2017 13:42

Could be low iron painting, I felt like this a few months ago and started taking a well woman tablet plus eating more iron rich foods and felt better within a couple of weeks. Not sure if I was anaemic but it's possible as iron stores decline for my age group(40s) especially if you have heavy periods, drink caffeine and avoid red meat. I ticked all 3!

Bumblebzz · 16/05/2017 14:07

@Giddy that's it I'm definitely getting an iron supplement!

Giddyaunt18 · 16/05/2017 14:10

Be careful bumble as I think pure iron has to be prescribed as too much can cause problems. You can get gentle iron in the form of Floridex etc. I take a 'Well Woman' supplement that give me most things including iron.

Bumblebzz · 16/05/2017 14:43

Yep that's the type of thing I will get too

PaintingOwls · 16/05/2017 15:04

Bloody hell, I'm pale, itchy, have heavy periods and get dizzy about halfway through my run. Ffs.

I've just printed a fact sheet on vegan sources of iron which I'm going to pin on my kitchen cupboard. And if that doesn't work I'll look into supplements.

Giddyaunt18 · 16/05/2017 16:55

It's tricky painting, my DD 16 turned vegetarian a year ago and I try hard to make her meals that will give her what she needs. It's hard with no meat or fish. I use lentils in place of mince, lots of green veg, eggs, fortified cereals and juice with iron rich foods is supposed to help the body absorb the iron.

Giddyaunt18 · 16/05/2017 17:05

Must be hard without eggs, I rely on them. When all else fails I whip up an omelette for her!

PaintingOwls · 16/05/2017 17:32

I've been vegan for about 9 years Giddy I've not really had issues before this, but I suppose I could have hidden tiredness etc with coffee.

That's the other thing, I've stopped drinking caffeine and I'm about 2 months in. I allow myself a fancy green tea on Saturday and Sunday morning, but that's it.

It's nice to hear you're so supportive, my mum locked me in the house and wouldn't let me out unless I ate cheese or an egg Hmm

Giddyaunt18 · 16/05/2017 18:25

I do try painting. I've just made a fish curry. I make the base the same, then I pour some of the sauce into another pan, add lentils to hers and fish to ours. Not too much trouble really, just extra washing up! --Which she never helps with but I'm letting her off until GCSEs are over! We had it with cauliflower rice tonight and it was yum.

theredjellybean · 16/05/2017 23:04

Hello
I had sneaky mid week weigh....down to 73.0 kg...yippee that's 1.7 kg in just about 2 weeks
Stopped snacking and made my runs harder by doing more miles, faster and including hiits..

Bumblebzz · 16/05/2017 23:10

Well done @theredjellybean, that is fantastic! Out of interest did you do anything else (low carb or count cals etc)?
Isnt is amazing the impact of snacking? Now that I've cut it out I'm only realising how often during the day and esp evening I used to pomp something on my mouth.
I'm really enjoying my meals now as I have a proper appetite ( =very hungry) when I eat.

Bumblebzz · 16/05/2017 23:11

Pop not pomp!
