Hi, I know there are lots of new 2017 threads but thought I'd see if there are others like me with a small amount of weight to lose who want support.
This day last year I weighed 10st 11lbs which is my heaviest ever (I am 165cm / 5ft 5in) My aim then was to be under 10 st which I managed but then spent most of the year bobbing around the 10 st mark, which was fine.
Today I weigh 10st 3lbs. It is TOTM so that always adds a pound or two but my target is to lose 7lbs initially and then perhaps aim for 9 1/2.
Aiming to count calories and exercise as this is what has worked best for me in the past Smile

Oh can I join?

I'm 5'0 and currently weigh 8st12 my normal weight usually sits around 8.3, I know I'm not overweight and still in a normal BMI range but those 9 extra pounds means my clothes are tight and uncomfortable, especially my jeans because being pear shaped its all went on my stomach and thighs. It's cheaper to lose weight rather than buy new clothes. I'm generally feel a bit bloated and unhealthy due to festive munching.

I'm going to start tomorrow, my plan of attack is no snacking and I'm going to go for an hour brisk walk every day.

I'll start my day with porridge honey and banana, sandwich or soup for lunch and I'm not going to stress too much over dinner I'm going to just make whatever I normally would but reduce my portion size a bit, I've lost weight this way before so it's a method that works for me.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm in as well! Christmas tipped me over the edge of comfortable so half a stone to loose. My body just feels wrecked so I have to get more intentional with exercise have just downloaded the Zova app so I'll see how it goes. Apart from that I'm on MFP and hungry right now!!

Whyhellodaffodil · 08/01/2017 14:30

Hello! Still going with the low carbing here,7 pounds down in 10 days or so, pleased with that and it hasn't been too bad. 7 pounds to go! Finding energy levels a bit low when trying to run but that should pass soon hopefully. Off to read the full thread now - lots of us!

buzzpopprince · 08/01/2017 14:47

Hello! I'm 9st 8 pounds and 5'3" It all seems to be all on my middle, coming up to 40 this year and hard to shift now it seems. None of my lovely dresses fit properly anymore and I'd like to get back to 8.5- 9
Really helpful tips here, thanks!
I have realised I have a major sugar addiction (and years ago much more a savoury person) so I watched The Sugar Man documentary which gave me a much needed wake up call about hidden sugars, so that and MFP are helping.
Big issue with snacking on an evening, going to try celery...not sure it will cut it though!

Specialagentblond · 08/01/2017 15:08

Busy thread! I'm glad I'm not the only one out there. My mind is finally in the zone, eating better today, chalked up loads of steps. Meal planning, shopping and MFP tomorrow, exercise video later.

Well done on everybody's losses so far, and a big welcome to newcomers.

meatloaf · 08/01/2017 18:35

What's the Sugar Man documentary buzzpopprince?

thewaitresses · 08/01/2017 19:16

I think celery with peanut butter is supposed to be tasty (maybe not low-cal though!).

I had quite a hefty chicken roast and allocated 22ww points to it. Had one of those tiny packets of cadburys buttons for pudding.

Not feeling hungry yet but will have to plan something to fill the evening gap!

Jellybean83 · 08/01/2017 19:27

The only thing that makes raw celery an acceptable foodstuff is thai sweet chilli sauce for dipping, but that is not helpful if you're cutting down on sugar. A little does go a long way though.

I do the majority of my snacking at night so it's going to be a killer breaking that habit, I'm going to stock up on strong mints, pop one of those in my mouth to stop me eating the crisps/chocolate.

PinxTheTinxMinx · 08/01/2017 20:04

Jelly if I'm struggling with avoiding sweet stuff, I either have a mint if I'm out or if I'm at home I whizz and brush my teeth, works wonders.

stillwantrachelshair · 08/01/2017 20:19

Hello
Can I join? I'm usually about 10st 4 but am currently 11st. No reason for it other than sheer greed over Christmas. The shred of good news is that I haven't gained any weight in the past week &, whilst I have been full of good intentions, I have finished off the last of the mince pies, biscotti, amaretto & cheese. The fridge is full of healthy food &, having now eaten all of the bad stuff, surely I can eat healthily this week? Ideally, I'd let to get below 10st but, other than 9st13 for three days in 2015 and 9st12 for three weeks in 2005, I haven't been below 10st this century so am not sure how achievable it is. I am only 10st 4 so it should be but I really struggle. I do have PCOS but it is also due to laziness & lack of will power.
My first goal will be to get out of bed 30mins earlier tomorrow which will cut my commute from an hour to 30 mins & mean I can spend an hour in the gym before work. To do that, I need to stop MNing and go and get every last little thing ready for both me & the DC. Our mornings are a bit of a military operation (both DC dropped at cm at 7.30am) so, if I'm leaving DH to do it alone, I need to do as much as possible now.
I feel so fat & bloated tonight...bleurggghhhhh

fuzzyllama · 08/01/2017 22:15

Oooh can I join please ? 5ft 4in and currently 9st 12lb after an indulgent Christmas. I think I'd like to lose 10lb. Getting married in June and my dress is on the tight side. I'm thinking of doing the 5:2 diet and going back to the gym (haven't been for a couple of months, find it daunting and need to get a grip and get on with it). Any one else doing or has done the 5:2? Hoping I will find it doable.

buzzpopprince · 08/01/2017 23:06

Meatloaf

The Sugar Man is on Amazon Prime, not sure if it's on YouTube too. A bit like that McDonald's documentary, he starts off not having eaten sugar for three years. For 60 days, he just has to eat what a lot of people buy from the supermarkets etc on a low calorie diet. Eg low fat yoghurts, diet drinks, vitamin water, processed foods, etc. Anything marked healthy/low fat/low cal. He doesn't eat any obvious sugar like sweets, or ice cream. He keeps up the same level of exercise as before and they do his bloods and liver function tests etc throughout
It was really quite shocking, the state of him, especially the Sugar amount in children's food and fruit smoothies.
There's a 'bliss point' amount of sugar which coke / Dr Pepper makers found in the seventies that most people liked therefore would sell more, and that's why it then got added so much to everything else....baked beans, soup, ketchup, I even found It in chopped tinned tomatoes today!
Anyway I'm a bit obsessed after watching, sure it will pass! At least I'm more aware than before

meatloaf · 08/01/2017 23:39

Cheers buzzpopprince i have prime and going to watch it.

cathyandclare · 09/01/2017 08:26

Weighing in. 5lb off in total this week, pretty good after a five course tasting menu with buckets of wine on Saturday. Have done 30 mins HITT five times and avoided obvious carbs/sugar but not in ketosis.

This week I'm sticking to healthy, lower carb food with loads of veg and berries and water as fighting a virus. May do a strict week from next Monday when feeling a little better.

Good luck all, I'm going to watch The Sugar Man now, thanks for the tip :)

cathyandclare · 09/01/2017 08:44

Sorry had to come back and squeal because That Sugar Film ( as recommended by Buzz) has got Hugh Jackman in it...unexpected bonus!

EnormousTiger · 09/01/2017 09:09

(I must watch that film. I cut out those kind of products and have been so healthy since then. Even diet coke now tastes like paint stripper to me.)

fuzzy I just have water (or just cocoa powder with water - not sugar or milk nor is it chocolate powder) until lunch time so that is a bit like intermittent fasting although it's not 5/2 as I don't have planned lower calorie and higher calorie days. Definitely the old advice to fast to cure yourself for a lot of illnesses seems wise to me. Am wondering why so far I've not caught the terrible cold hot/cold germ 4 of the family have and am sure it's partly lots of sleep and how I eat (as well as loads of hand washing).... so far so good. Still 10 stone today but I never lose more than at most a pound a week ever. I will pleased when I get a 9 at the front of the number though....

ChickenPoop · 09/01/2017 10:01

Currently 126lb (9 stone). I was 124 but have been really slack the last couple of months.

I've just started c25k - I was running well up until October but went on holiday and never got back to it. Will also start doing some strength training. I'm in my emergency work trousers as my smaller ones are just not comfortable Blush

I think I will need to be around 118lb before I feel and look small. I'm a skinny-fat pear. Wish I'd heeded the advice to strength train throughout weight loss, then I probably could've avoided this Sad

MynyddoeddEryri · 09/01/2017 11:32

Well done everyone on their losses and welcome too to newcomers. I'll definitely have to watch that Sugar Man documentary. I may watch it tonight whilst DP is out. I'm really struggling on a sugar front at the moment. Not helped by us having a whole christmas cake in the house which needs eating by end of Jan and having lots of chocolate left over.

I've just bought a fitbit which is helping me be more conscious of how much (or rather little) I'm moving around. Managed to do 3 miles with DSD yesterday which was lovely and I'm hoping I can get out again tonight.

chocolatecheesecake · 09/01/2017 15:12

1lb down after a week of cutting back but not dieting. Started diet properly today. No refined sugar is my starting approach as I am such a snacker on choc, sweets, cake etc. Will also mean no wine once I've finished the last half bottle...

Fingers crossed...

Feckinlego · 09/01/2017 15:26

Hi there, I posted at the start of this thread but not since. I think I thought posting my intention to lose weight was enough Blush

I'm doing mfp, dry January and exercise. I've been out running or walking, plus I did hiit this morning which nearly killed me.

I'm just trying to eat healthier too. Made Moroccan chickpea soup for lunch today which was amazing. It's on the BBC good food website if anyone is interested.

Jellybean83 · 09/01/2017 17:52

Good luck to everyone who is cutting out sugar, I'd love to be in the zone with that one. Think I'll check out the sugar man as well, see if it gives me a kick up the ass.

So first day is going well, had my porridge and banana then a tuna sandwich for lunch, managed to forgo the crisps. Dinner was a small portion of chilli I had in the freezer and a microwave frozen rice. I'm struggling just now, DS is in his swim lesson so I'm sitting in the cafe eyeing up the coffee and cakes I'd usually be having.... I'm sitting with a green tea instead. 😖

Tonight will be the test to see if I can stop the night time snacking, I'm really expecting to fail with this one because I had such an early dinner due to DS swim lesson.

meatloaf · 09/01/2017 18:34

Have you got a link to the recipe for the soup Feckinlego?

stillwantrachelshair · 09/01/2017 19:44

Well I've got off to a good start...
45 mins in the gym this morning
Breakfast was Greek yogurt
Lunch was chicken pie with mounds of peas & carrots
Tea was a salad consisting of lettuce, pepper, cucumber, butternut squash, pomegranate, feta & an avocado
Snacks were 2 carrots, a chunk of pepper and two slices of ham.
I now need to not eat anything else. Which should be achievable.
I hope the rest of you have had good days

shortsaint · 09/01/2017 21:23

Well weighed myself this am and still the flipping same - 10 stone 12 (and feel it). However steps going well, been to a Zumba class tonight and eaten light meals.

Onwards!
