I'd like to lose about a stone. So I'm going back to my old system of writing down everything I eat, to make myself more accountable and stop eating random unhealthy stuff that I forget about twenty minutes later. The next few months of cold will be featuring lots of soup, and herbal tea instead of hot chocolate. This method usually works for me, so I need to get back on it.

Weighed in just after midnight. Ouch. I managed to get a 1.3 mile very slow run in before the heavens opened; I'm quite pleased with that as it's my first run in a month and a half - I thought I would struggle to run at all. Hopefully it will get a bit easier as I start shedding a few pounds.

hopeidontforgetthisusername · 01/01/2017 11:30

I'd like to join in this thread too please. I am the heaviest I have ever been and could really do with losing 3 stone. I am going to join WW again next Monday. I am a serial diet failure, I really want to do it this time. Nothing fits and I look just awful.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/01/2017 14:11

Well that went well last night necked half bottle champagne with 5 gin and tonics. Breakfast was laughing cow light triangle on Vogel soya and linseed toast. Had 2 lebkuchen star biscuits and new Covent Garden carrot and coriander soup with one slice Vogel soya and linseed toast with flora proactive. Had coffee with semi skimmed milk and florentine with chocolate at friends house. Walking not sure possibly good 40-1 hour walk round park.

TwatteryFlowers · 01/01/2017 19:34

I had loads last night, thanks to Iceland's party food aisle, and this morning I started off well with the last of the mini cheesecakes! I then went for a meal with family but that's all I've had today as it has filled me right up.

Tomorrow I start properly - we have now got rid of all the party food and there's no reason to drink alcohol now until my birthday in February.

I weighed in today: 9st 7. Not too bad really - I had gone down to 9st 5 before Christmas (I have been dieting since July), put 4lb on by boxing day and have inexplicably lost 2 by this morning. Hopefully it'll continue downwards!

addstudentdinners2 · 01/01/2017 20:26

Cake for dinner. That's it now - all the unhealthy food is out of the house.

PacificOcean · 01/01/2017 22:10

After a ridiculous amount to eat and drink last night, today (my first day) went well Smile

Dizzywizz · 02/01/2017 06:29

I'm starting tomorrow really, but weighing in on Mondays...13 stone 3lbs which I am pretty unhappy with...was 13 stone 13lbs when ds2 was born 2 years ago, I had gone down to 12 stone so not happy how I've managed to get up here. But I will lose the weight!

d270r0 · 02/01/2017 08:17

Can I join? Would be happy losing about 3 stone. Unhappy with my weight. I started a diet last year on 1st January and lost about 1 and a half stone, so got halfway but then stopped keeping track in July, and started putting it all back on again but didn't know how much I had put on- and I just weighed myself again this morning and am almost exactly what I was this time last year! Put the whole lot back on again! Really annoyed so this time I'm going to lose it all again, and more, and keep track so I don't put it all on again.

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/01/2017 08:23

Another one here that needs to get sorted .

I had lost a stone and half since the end of sept . stopped tracking in DEC and I am now over half a stone back on .

Starting again today . Off to work in a min and then sensible food shopping and off to the gym to start couch to 5k (again)

Good luck everyone .

KitKat1985 · 02/01/2017 08:50

Good luck to all of us. Has anyone got any good food swaps they would like to share?

So far I've switched regular butter for reduced fat spread (which is something like 400cals less per 100gms).

Also for those occasions where I really can't avoid the need for biscuits I've discovered two party rings is about 50 calories, versus two digestives which are about 160 calories.

HandsomeDevil · 02/01/2017 09:15

quick note before i go out
starting TODAY
start weight 12st 4lb Shock

back later

SheFeedsYouTeaAndOranges · 02/01/2017 09:31

KitKat swapping butter for low fat spread can be a 'false economy'. Butter is better for you as it's natural, your body needs fat and it fills you up for longer.

That's why people were slimmer in the 'olden days' when they ate high fat diets. It's all the messing about with low fat stuff that has screwed up our metabolisms. We didn't have an obesity crisis in this country until we started 'dieting'.

If 'low fat' is the path you're choosing, then fair enough, but do make sure that you've read all around it.

I'm going for reducing portion size and eating 'properly' as well as healthily. But I'm avoiding 'low fat' like the plague!

Dizzywizz · 02/01/2017 10:01

I'm going dairy free and reduced meat, so swooped milk and marg for the alternatives. Luckily me and boys' love fish so that should be ok.

I'm dieting for health reasons (have a chronic condition) and to lose weight, about 3 stones.

My trouble is being too tired and in pain to cook, so ordering pizza or going to McDonald's. I try to bulk cook when I can and freeze meals.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 02/01/2017 10:07

Checking in with starting weight 12st 11lb Shock.

That's the heaviest I've been in 8 years. I'm only 5'4" so that's in the (very?) obese category! Really I'd need to lose 3st but that seems too much, so I'm aiming for 1lb per week & hopefully by my birthday in April, I'll look better & look much better by the time of our holiday in August.

Think I'll join Slimming World too as I reckon I'll need real life support & motivation to keep me on track.

Good luck everyone!

SheFeedsYouTeaAndOranges · 02/01/2017 10:19

I'm definitely weighing in on a Monday!

I weighed myself yesterday because I couldn't wait, but decided to do it again this morning as I want Monday to be my weigh in morning.

2lb down on yesterday! Grin Wink

Tbh, today's weight is more like I expected it to be. I didn't eat loads over Christmas and it's what I weighed before hand, so I'm going on this.

SheFeedsYouTeaAndOranges · 02/01/2017 10:24

I've batch cooked and stocked the freezer for the half term now.

I always used to do a big shop in half term holidays and batch cook for the next so only have to get fresh stuff and things for lunches during term time. It makes it a lot easier to avoid temptation and a lot easier to budget too!

SuperFlyHigh · 02/01/2017 12:15

So yesterday afternoon had 2 cups takeaway tea I think one with semi skim, 1 full fat, 2 Greggs sausage rolls, chicken and Mediterranean veggies (courgette, aubergine, tomato) and rice and orange. Plus another cup tea skim milk and 1 camomile tea. About 2 glasses water. Woke up and had whole pack m&s poppadom crisps and 1 marmite cheese plus camomile tea. Walked in total about 40 or more minutes would've been more but was driving too.

Today I've had kiwi fruit X 1 and blueberry alpro soya yogurt for breakfast. 2 cups tea skim milk and sundried tomato, houmouss, thyme, roast veg, normal tomato and ticket on brown bread sandwich (cafe) for lunch. So far walked 20 minutes.

TwatteryFlowers · 02/01/2017 16:13

I'm going for reducing portion size and eating 'properly' as well as healthily. But I'm avoiding 'low fat' like the plague!

Same here! I'm not really doing any diet food or swaps because I've found that if I go down the diet food route I just feel hungry all the time and like I'm giving up too much so, for me, smaller portions and cutting down on the chocolate works better. Today we're having veg curry with yoghurt and mint sauce, mango chutney and a small naan each.

addstudentdinners2 · 02/01/2017 17:33

Same, no low fat stuff here, I think it tastes horrible and I'm desperately trying to avoid disordered thinking when it comes to food.

I have a baby and am knackered, struggling to find the motivation but I am starting by cutting portion sizes, not going mad on carbs and cutting out snacks.

addstudentdinners2 · 02/01/2017 17:33

Sesame salmon with pan fried courgettes, chilli and feta here tonight.

thiswayplease · 02/01/2017 18:07

Starting tomorrow and just had fish and chips for dinner and it was highly disappointing Shock.

I will weigh myself tomorrow and do a Monday weigh in.

Tomorrow I will have a one egg omelette for breakfast, lentil soup for lunch and something a bit more substantial for dinner. I don't drink tea or coffee but will have hot water and a slice of lemon to drink.

I've also made up a jug of water, lemon, lime, cucumber and ginger which I will drink throughout the day. It's meant to be great for a flat stomach!

Will do a 30 minute work out in the morning

d270r0 · 02/01/2017 18:23

Start weigh in: 14stone8 Shock

Have been pretty good today- fruit&fibre cereal with skimmed milk for breakfast, 1 wholemeal pitta+low fat houmous (265kcal) and loads of raw veg and salsa for lunch, small amount fish pie+mountain of veg for dinner. And a 94kcal choc bar from selection box as I couldn't resist. Not too bad.

I do the whole low fat thing as it saves me so much exra calories, and I am fine with the taste.
I know I should do my exercise dvd too- trying to will myself to do some.

HandsomeDevil · 02/01/2017 19:02

no major swaps here either, just not eating like a beast (I have a tendency towards comfort-binging). I'm also knocking booze on the head unless I'm out-out, as that's a fairly easy win for me.

tonight we had chicken skewers with satay sauce and noodles (it's a Jamie 30 minute job).

PlaymobilPirate · 02/01/2017 19:19

I'm in - I feel disgusting. I'm really short and a size 16 18

I can't bear to weigh myself so I'm not going to.

I'm awful at portion control and often eat till I'm way more than full!

I'm buying a step counter (not even sure how many to aim for to start though??)

If I don't eat on mornings I find I eat less through the day so my starting plan is a rough 16:8 - loads of water then Slimming world overnight oats for lunch and a sensible tea with piles of veg....

SheFeedsYouTeaAndOranges · 02/01/2017 20:03

If anyone is interested in the fat vs low fat and does eating fat make you fat type stuff, there's a Food Unwrapped Diet special on Channel 4 right now.

Might be interesting and worth watching...
