I'd like to lose about a stone. So I'm going back to my old system of writing down everything I eat, to make myself more accountable and stop eating random unhealthy stuff that I forget about twenty minutes later. The next few months of cold will be featuring lots of soup, and herbal tea instead of hot chocolate. This method usually works for me, so I need to get back on it.

Thanks KitKat. Online shopping definitely helps with limiting temptation. I'm terrible in-store, like a donut-seeking missile.

CancellyMcChequeface · 10/01/2017 15:12

Thank you, KitKat! I agree about online shopping, too - although it's not so good for fruit and vegetables. In the shop you can pick out the best ones!

I find that I'm good at not buying tempting foods in the shops, but if others in my family buy them and they're sitting in the cupboard, it's difficult not to eat them! Even worse is when they buy things especially for me - I've asked everyone not to, but it doesn't make much difference. I feel bad turning down the food! They're all slim, but then they're all 5'10"+ and I'm only 5'2" - so of course I'm going to be fatter if I eat the same as them all the time!

I started my weight loss journey on 06/01/2017, that is when I joined a gym, bought some new scales and a blender for smoothies. I started off on 112.9kg and have lost 3.75 pounds so far (112.5kg). Sunday was my first gym trip in 2 years and it was a bit of a half-arsed attempt, I stupidly went into the ladies only section which was practically empty. Yesterday I went for 1.5hr session and burnt 450 calories... I mainly focused on the legs and afterwards, my thighs felt like concrete. I've burnt 501 calories today by just walking.

Oh I use MyFitnessPal for my food and exercise tracking and Accupedo for my steps. I've found that I prefer going to the gym in the afternoon/early evening... which is what I'm going to do, from now on! 😊

i am not weighing myself until saturday , so that will be about 10 days into it , and I am hoping for a nice surprise because i have noticed clothes feeling a little more comfortable and my bra a bit looser on my ' back fat' !

I just popped on here to say I am having a decent sized bowl of porridge with skimmed milk every morning and it is really staving off those mid morning hunger pangs .

I have also been trying out my old yoga moves during my lunch break ( I work from home so not too weird haha imagine doing this in a packed staff room )

Dizzywizz · 11/01/2017 19:17

I love porridge for brekki but find it hard to avoid adding syrup or sugar! Whey do you have with it?

GreenBudgie · 11/01/2017 20:17

Hi Folks. Many thanks for all the updates and suggestions :-). I threw my toys out the pram Sunday, got upset over developing situation with elderly mother (has dementia) and just buried my face in a trough of carbs. I know I am an emotional eater, and I scoff in secret, instead of speaking. Thought I was ready to give up, but, having read around emotional eating, and from watching the Sugar Free Farm programme, I am ready to progress. I hate the way over eating makes me feel. Back on track with 3 X 400 cal meals and 150 cal worth of milk as milky coffee as a warning treat. My new favorite breakfast is a toasted sandwich of 2 slices wholemeal bread, spread with 10g real butter and topped with 5 sliced in half across middle soft dried apricots. It tastes really luxurious with the butter. For me, real food in measured amounts is working. Best wishes to All.

JacquelineChan · 11/01/2017 20:49

Dizzy I have honey . I know some people might say oh that's sugar etc etc but I can't be a saint ! Hahaha just doing my best

JacquelineChan · 11/01/2017 20:51

Greenbudgie don't worry about Sunday , sounds like you are back on track and that deserves a pat on the back. I love the sound of that sandwich!

GreenBudgie · 11/01/2017 20:55

Thanks Jacqueline :-). I am keeping the thought "you cannot hate yourself slim" in my head.

TwatteryFlowers · 11/01/2017 23:14

I like that thought Budgie and I might pinch it for myself!

Real, comforting food that fills you and that feels good to eat has got to be better than anything 'diet' or 'fat-free', especially as this is meant to be something you can sustain in the long term.

Try not to worry about Sunday - I think it's the balance throughout the week that matters and the idea of knowing that you can get back on track after you fall off the wagon means you stop feeling guilty about eating, which perhaps in turn helps break that cycle of secret comfort eating. It makes sense to me anyway even if I'm not explaining myself well!

I've done quite well this week - much better than last week anyway. I'm having fruit & full-fat yoghurt for breakfast, a sandwich or some soup for dinner and a bigger meal for tea, such as fish, stew, curry, chilli or burgers. I'm also having something like a bar of chocolate, a packet of crisps or some biscuits as a snack and I'm still managing to keep to around 1400 cals per day.

JacquelineChan · 12/01/2017 10:17

I put on the ''jeans of dread'' this morning and they did up a bit easier and much less overhang/ muffin top !

JacquelineChan · 12/01/2017 10:20

I made chicken noodle soup in the slow cooker last night , pretty low cal / low fat . I wanted the rest for lunch but dp has pinched it .

i have vegetable soup and ryvita for lunch and turkey stir fry for dinner . Much easier to do this by planning ahead , otherwise I grab biscuits and toddler's leftovers

ok, I am 26 and up until about 3 years ago I put on loads of weight due to the implant and of course emotional eating when going through a hard time! I was always a size 8 and now I am 12 borderline 14, I know that doesn't seem to be very big but for my height it is really bad, basically I feel like a fat unattractive heffa... so there's a bit of back story, last year I started up jogging and was doing quite well jogging for 30 mins 2-3 times a week and it seemed to be working, but then I twisted my ankle and didn't do it for just over a week, and haven't done it properly since just the sporadic jog! I now need new trainers so that's another thing preventing me at this present moment ( and yes I know you're probably thinking just get new ones ) unfortunately money is tight at the mo, so have to wait for a couple of weeks. But to top things off I just have no physical motivation I feel tired all the time but I desperately want to lose weight as my self esteem/confidence if just non existent mostly down to my weight, it just makes me feel very self conscious and ugly. also I have biiigg problems with food cravings can't stop wanting to eat shit, crisps and dip, ice cream, chocolate and just about any dessert you could think of Blush!
sorry if that was all a bit jumbled or seemed like I was rambling. if any of you could please give me any tips on how I can get out of this rut?! would be very grateful.. I have already started eating better so breakfast, lunch and dinner and for a sweet tooth I have a 0%fat yogurt, I don't tend to snack between meals

MusicToMyEars800 · 12/01/2017 14:13

I didn't mean to post that twice, sorry about that everyone

JacquelineChan · 12/01/2017 14:36

hello music. Firstly with the cravings that sometimes means your body isn't getting the vitamins it needs , try getting a multi vit + iron ( so cheap in wilko) and take one a day. Also when you have a craving have a cup of tea or a cold drink first ( no sugar )

you don't need trainers ! go for walks and do exercise at home - this is what i am doing. you can get good yoga or aerobics on you tube.

Even lunges / squats/ star jumps / sit ups has been helping. anything to get moving . I am not knocking you because I am the same but if you say oh i have to wait 2 weeks for this , then another week for that , then that is making it harder.

the first step is the hardest x

MusicToMyEars800 · 12/01/2017 14:49

JacquelineChan thank you for replying to my post, I meant I need the trainers to start up jogging again, I have started drinking a lot more water, and I have a cleaning job, so use that as a good exercise regime eg: carrying the henry hoover up and down flights of stairs squatting to empty bins etc its a big office over 3 floors so a good little workout and it's a 10 min walk there and back so I speed walk it to get the heart rate up.. i will try the tip of drinking some water or perhaps a tea when i get a craving, i do overall have a diet rich in fruit and veg and nearly all of my dinners are cooked from scratch with exception to the odd take away once ever 2-3 weeks, but i am stopping that too now to save money and lose weight! so begins my journey with you all Smile i think going through it with other people even if it is only online makes it that bit easier

JacquelineChan · 12/01/2017 14:50

hey i am loving your work outs at work ! that's genius

you can get these little weights that you strap to your ankles ( i use mine when i am doing the house work ) - but you might not be able to have these as you hurt your ankle recently x

JacquelineChan · 12/01/2017 15:00

by the way it sounds like you are already doing all the right things and within a couple of weeks you will begin to see results

MusicToMyEars800 · 12/01/2017 15:06

that sounds like a good idea, i was doing weights at home last year but had to get rid of them due to a move, and storage space in my new place. i would love to be able to join a gym and take up classes to lose a bit of weight and then gradually incorporate weights again, but financially it is not possible at the mo, but i will be doing this in a couple of months and hopefully by june/july i will have that slim figure, toned and more confident with it, i also need to sort out what's left of my belly after having 2 dds, its now like an empty pouch that just hangs.. blurgh lol

JacquelineChan · 12/01/2017 16:10

yours is empty ? lucky you ! mine is full of jelly hahahaha

GreenBudgie · 12/01/2017 19:26

Hi Music. I completely understand urge to scoff, it is like being stuck in mud at the bottom of a well, and staying there wallowing, instead of standing up and reaching for a ladder out of the pit. I find regular planned meals "work". I have decided to have 3X 400 cal meals comprising a balanced mix of fat, carbs, protein and fruit/veg so I "spend" my calories in best way possible. You really are 50% of the way there in that you want and are motivated to change. You obviously miss your weight training. I love lifting weights, it is like a form of meditation if I do slow heavy lifts. Can you have a look online for some HITT or body weight training sessions. Don't fret about where you are now, none of us are really mentioning our current weight, we are focussing on eating better and dropping some excess fat. Best wishes to all, reading your posts is keeping me on plan.

Snorfig · 13/01/2017 09:33

Totally feeling the frustration of people who are missing their usual exercise for whatever reason. My cold has kept me from running for 9 days and that's my meditation/mindful time. Really missing it. No weight loss as a result despite all other positive changes.

MusicToMyEars800 · 13/01/2017 10:49

GreenBudgie it's good to know I am not the only one, yes I do miss the weights because although it was painful and after squats and deadlifts I couldn't walk or sit or even move without pain for days, it was that feeling of gaining strength and muscle definition also a perky bottom lol, it was euphoric, I do find once I get into the exercise like the weights and the jogging everything gets better, a natural high from it! but then when you get struck down with illness or injury it's hard to get back into it (well for me it is). just need to stick to my meal plan and keep drinking plenty of water and gradually increase my exercise. thank you all for your supportive comments Smile joining MN was one of the best things I did

KitKat1985 · 13/01/2017 13:47

Hi all.

Well done everyone for your progress. Every big journey starts with little steps!

Not doing too bad this week, but there have been 2 mince pies and some chocolate consumed. Blush Have generally been making sensible choices though. Some of my walking plans haven't quite come to fruition though (not helped by the cold and rain). Next weigh in tomorrow. Wish me luck!
