Quite a good day here too. Actimel, cornflakes and tea for breakfast, peanut butter on two slices of wholemeal toast for lunch, 2 lebkuchen as a snack, burritos for dinner. About 70 calories over but quite good on the steps today.

Lapinlapin · 29/11/2016 23:13

You're all being so good with your calorie counting. I think I'm going to have to brave it and do it too.

I've not been so good recently. The odd biscuit is creeping back in and I had had pizza for dinner. Not looking forward to to tomorrow's weigh in...

I think my problem at the moment is I'm just so tired. I realise that when I don't get enough sleep I eat more instead.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 29/11/2016 23:21

Calorie counting is a pain but I think, for me anyway, it keeps me focused. It stops me wasting calories. There's quite a few studies out there that say that lack of sleep inhibits weight loss not just because you may eat more to give yourself energy but it does something to the brain and affects your metabolism, lapin. And on that note I'm going to sleep!

GoodQueenWenchEatsLess · 30/11/2016 08:10

I hate calorie counting. It's such a faff and very time consuming. But it does seem to be working and is definitely making me aware of just how many calories can be hidden in things hat look so small and harmless!

Have done my 5k on the exercise bike. Went at a faster pace today and managed to shave 2mins of my usual time. But I felt sick and like my legs were going to fall off - and only burned an extra 4 calories so it wasn't worth it!

Breakfast is my usual tea with porridge and banana. Not sure what the rest of my meals will be yet.

I was pondering last night .... if you stay within your calorie allowance, but eat crap (as an extreme example - eating 3 bars of chocolate a day instead of three reasonably balanced meals), would you still lose weight? Not that I'd do something so extreme but I was just wondering how much the type of food you eat matters, as long as you're under your allowance? Hmm

MillieMoodle · 30/11/2016 08:15

Lapin I agree with Loki - the calorie counting is a pain to start with but it keeps me focused on what I'm eating and how much so I don't waste (as many) calories. It's made me more aware of what's in food too. I like mince pies but I don't like them enough to use 200-300 calories on one. Before, I would have eaten 2 or 3 in one go just because they were there Blush

Breakfast today will be cornflakes, actimel and tea after school drop off. Not sure about lunch and dinner yet.

FireflyGirl · 30/11/2016 08:50

Morning all. I was sensible yesterday, despite going out for tea.

B: 2 cereal bars and an apple
L: gammon salad with feta, and an egg
T: Greek meze at a local restaurant. I have no idea how many calories were in it. I tried a bit of everything, but didn't overdo it so I wasn't uncomfortably full. And turned down baklava for dessert Halo. But it's the first time in the 4 weeks we've been doing this that I've had a blow out, and I've planned for it as the rest of my meals this week are low calorie to account for it.

No idea how to log it on MFP - I could hardly start interrogating the lovely waiter on how many grams of oil were in each item Grin I just added 2000 cals to my diary and hoped for best.

Agree it's a pain guessing counting calories, but it's certainly helped me think about what I eat - I could eat as much in a snack as in a meal without realising!

It's a good question about the chocolate, Wench, and I'd imagine a calorie is a calorie regardless where you get it, but I reckon you'd be hungry and tired and grumpy on a diet purely of chocolate bars at least, that's what I tell myself to prevent me trying

OP posts:
Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 30/11/2016 10:47

Wench, I think the food does make a difference, salty food for example will make you retain water and help weight gain/prevent loss as will alcohol - so that a bag of salted peanuts and a bottle of wine as a meal is out Grin.
Cheesy scrambled eggs for me this morning but ate late so won't bother with lunch.
No idea what to do for dinner.

Ice3 · 30/11/2016 11:47

I think my scales must be broken, that or I'm having an unexpected woosh?! Monday 162.6, Tuesday 161.6 Today 160.8? I had half of DH's pizza last night and was sure I was going to be up even if just from the sodium content.

Cheesy scrambled eggs for me this morning too Loki

MillieMoodle · 30/11/2016 11:55

Wench well done on keeping up the exercise bike! I'm going to start again tonight and see how I go. I'd love a diet of chocolate bars but I think it would not fill me up at all, despite all the calories!

Going to have cheesy scrambled eggs for lunch, with wholemeal toast, as have been inspired by the posts up thread!

Dinner will probably be spag bol.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 30/11/2016 13:01

Cheesy scrambled eggs are fab! I'm going to do a chilli tonight from the Hairy Bikers diet book, can give his nibs (DH) and her lady ship (DD) larger portions.

Lapinlapin · 30/11/2016 13:08

Right well calorie counting it is then!

Weigh in day today and I've stayed the same (not really a surprise). Will try to do better next week with calorie counting. Will mfp tell me how many calories I should eat a day?

Interesting about lack of sleep affecting metabolism. My metabolism has changed since having children and I just assumed it was due to getting older. Maybe not getting enough sleep is the real cause though, seeing as I can count on one hand the number of unbroken nights I've had in the last three years!

Bibs2014 · 30/11/2016 14:02

Erm what do you do if you accidentally only leave yourself with 13 cals for dinner Shock

MillieMoodle · 30/11/2016 14:40

Lapin if you put in your target weight and how many lbs you want to lose per week, it will tell you how many calories you can eat. I'm allowed 1,320 a day if I want to lose at a rate of 2lbs per week.

Bibs I think if you were to run a marathon before dinner you'd be fine?! Wink I'm over most days with my calories but try not to be over by too much!

SmellTheGlove · 30/11/2016 18:44

Well after a day of feeling really stomach achey and nauseous yesterday, and consequently only eating about 800 cals, I am now 2 pounds down overnight! Shows how sick I felt though as I NEVER lose my appetite. Still feel a bit ropey today but sadly managing to eat more again!

GoodQueenWenchEatsLess · 30/11/2016 22:16

Argh I was doing so well but then sat down for my evening hot chocolate and decided to treat myself to 2 chocolate hobnob biscuits after a very busy and stressful day. I wish I hadn't
bothered. Have you seen how many calories are in those things?!? So I'm about 115 cals over my allowance today Angry

cakegoblin · 30/11/2016 23:16

Hi everyone, have been lurking on here for a while - can I join? I put on a stone over last Christmas and was thinking that if I can get a few good habits in and a few pounds lost before this Christmas then this January won't be quite so painful as it was in 2016!
I'm 5'8 and 13 stone, on the nose. Target is just to get under 12 but ideally to 11.5ish, more importantly fitting back into this damn drawerful of too-tight jeans.
I've just done my first day on MFP (thanks to you lot talking about it) and was thinking I'd aced it, but actually when I added some extra bits eg butter, cooking oil on, I haven't done quite as brilliantly as I'd hoped. A small hot chocolate kind was necessary though, to calm myself down after The Missing! I think forcing myself to focus on calorie counting is probably a good way to go for me if I can keep it up.
So onwards and upwards tomorrow - and I have a plan to get some walking in - probably won't do a stone by Christmas now but can get started at least.
I have a question - how do you stop yourself from picking at toddlers left-overs? In cafe situations for example where they are too distracted to eat.. I am a dreadful picker.

Lapinlapin · 01/12/2016 00:09

I've just entered my details into mfp. 1200 calories a day. That really doesn't sound like much! Sad

readyforsunshine · 01/12/2016 07:07

I had a terrible day yesterday. I felt ill & exhausted, managed to plough my way through
Banana porridge, 3 pieces of white toast ( heaven) bowl of cereal, small bowl of beef stew with white bread, ravioli & tomato sauce, glass red, tomato soup 2 hobnobs Shock hope thatvmakes you feel better about your hobnobs wench!
cake I think you'll find calorie counting will help the grazing as it'll trigger you to think is it worth it iykwim. Good luck

GoodQueenWenchEatsLess · 01/12/2016 09:26

MFP only gave me 1200 calories when I first started doing it and I found it really hard. I found myself unable to stick to it so then I'd go over, then think "oh well I've failed anyway so I might as well have this cake / chocolate / buttery toast / whatever". I changed it to allow me 1400 calories a fortnight ago and since then I've been able to stick to it and only been over my allowance twice. Just something to think about Lapin if you find 1200 hard going (or you may be far more disciplined than me and manage it no problem!)

5k on the bike again today and I'm starting to really hate it. Why isn't it getting any easier?! Still, the extra 100 calories it gives me allowance to have both my flavoured latte and my bedtime hot choc so they are both what I think about to get me through the cycling Grin

Only had tea and a banana so far today as things were unusually hectic before the school run. Going to try and get some housework done then will have some grilled bacon and scrambled eggs I think.

How are you going millie? Not sure what is going on with MFP but I get nothing at all about you on the newsfeed bit nor anywhere else Confused

GoodQueenWenchEatsLess · 01/12/2016 09:29

Oh, forgot to ask ... now I seem to actually be losing a bit of weight, how soon will I notice I look any different? I mean, I can feel my clothes aren't quite so tight but my tummy, bum and thoughts still look enormous. When will the inches start going?

Ice3 · 01/12/2016 09:36

I'm 2 stone down and don't think I look any different at all yet Confused I even took (really traumatic) before photos so I could compare. It's really disappointing.

Hoping the paper towel theory kicks in soon!

MillieMoodle · 01/12/2016 10:06

Wench I will have another look at my MFP settings as I can see your updates. Well done on keeping up with the exercise bike!

Cake I was doing really well yesterday until I watched The Missing and then I ate far too many peanut M&Ms! It was a brilliant series, I really hope they do a series 3.

Breakfast today was actimel, cornflakes and tea. Not sure about lunch or dinner yet. I've lost half a stone in total so far, but my clothes don't feel any looser yet. Hoping I'll just wake up one morning and all my pre-baby clothes will miraculously fit me!

GoodQueenWenchEatsLess · 01/12/2016 10:53

Obviously I meant my thighs look enormous, not my thoughts HmmGrin

Notsoskinnyminny · 01/12/2016 11:37

Welcome cakegoblin

lapin that's my recommended allowance. I'm managing to stick to it most days although I wasted so many calories on buffet rubbish after the first performance that I had none left for dinner even if I'd wanted something at 10pm. I am having wine Fri-sun as life's too short notice to be sociable so I'm upto 200 over those days. Scanning barcodes let's me make a decision before snacking on something I don't really need but I need to stop obsessing because I messaged DD saying we weren't going for our girly coffee and cake when I pick her up tonight as there's too many calories in a gingerbread latte. She was upset because she was abroad last year and will probably be back in Japan longterm this time next year so I need to start thinking realistically.

Sorry that was epic, better get my bum to school!

FireflyGirl · 01/12/2016 12:24

So, yesterday was:
B: shreddies with almond milk
L: Chicken salad with feta and an egg
T: spaghetti bolognese, with courgetti and spiralised celeriac. DH now thinks ice is the queen of the world after I confessed I pinched her idea of spiralising celeriac. He loved it, thought it was better than the courgetti. I barely touched the 'just in case' pasta on my plate :-D

I bought some florentines from Lidl - they didn't even make it into the Christmas box Xmas Blush

lapin you can set your calories higher, and (in theory) lose weight more slowly. As wench says, it's what works for you.

Enormous thoughts might be part of the problem, Wench Xmas Grin I've lost 2 stone since last Christmas, something like 13% of my body weight, and it's only just now that I can see my shape starting to come back. There'll just be a point where you suddenly notice, and it'll feel great!

Notso I feel for you, it's hard because you have to make the choice of what you really want. Could you have a normal coffee and skip the cake, or one or the other? She can still have the usual.

Millie I've put in a good word for us all with the big man - skinny bodies and fat bank accounts Xmas Grin we'll have to see on Christmas day!

Welcome cake. I don't have a magic trick for leftovers, but luckily (? Xmas Hmm) DS seems to sneeze and dribble over his so they really do not appeal! Note to self, must teach that child some manners!

How did you manage in the end, Bibs?

How are you doing today, ready?
