The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Any sign of your cat, Posie? Hope he comes back quickly!

Today is a red day. I'm a bit hungover and I cracked. Never mind - I think I'll count Sunday as an N day. Normally I would just mark it and move on, but there'll be a lot of S days in December so I don't want to add to them.

PosiePootlePerkins · 10/12/2016 16:08

No sign of the catSad I am not feeling very hopeful. And have just found out that my auntie has cancer. So its all a bit crap right now. However I have not been turning to food for comfort which is unheard of for me. NoS is definitely helping me to not use food as a crutch.
Have a good weekend everyone, enjoy your S days.

PosiePootlePerkins · 12/12/2016 07:18

Another 1/2 lb off. Managing to stay in control despite everything. Hope you've all had a good weekend.

Bestbees · 12/12/2016 07:36

Posie I am so sorry about your cat and your aunt. Well done on not using food and your weightloss. Try to find other nice ways to look after yourself.Flowers

Cheddar hangovers are the worst for me food wise! Hope it was worth it.

I ended up stuffing my face on Friday so had some days Fri and sat which worked fine and actually scales not too bad but I am hovering around d the same few pounds which is frustrating. However I did not exercise last week as I'll so hoping that plenty this week will see me through and hoping to be 9'8 before the 22nd of Dec!

Worst case scenario we will know what we all need to do to deal with the horror of the scales on new years day!

mimiasovitch · 12/12/2016 08:18

Good morning all. Hope everyone enjoyed their S days. I ate absolutely awfully on Saturday. The few mini stollen I was looking forward to turned into the whole box, I missed breakfast and generally didn't feel good about what I ate. Yesterday was much better. I really feel it when veg is missing from my day. In my defence, as well as finishing all my wrapping, I've been trying to finish the staff gifts, which has been a massive headache and left me wanting to stuff the next stocking I see down the big man's throat. I'm looking forward to my sanity returning this week!

Tomorrow is my mum's 65th birthday, but I'm planning on just having the meal as an S event, and eating normally the rest of the day. Plus I'll drive, which'll make things easier. I think alcohol has a massive effect on my weight, even though I don't drink that much usually. This does not bode well for the staff party on Friday!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/12/2016 10:33

Morning all!

Posie, so sorry to hear about your aunt in addition to the cat. I am in awe of your strength in sticking to this in the face of such provocation!

You lot are good for my self-control! I spent most of yesterday thinking about mince pies, but I managed to resist by just telling myself that I would have one in a little while, and then I got all the way to bedtime without eating one! Haven't weighed, though. I will weigh tomorrow. I think for the rest of December I'm going to just keep on keeping on but accept that I'll have a lot more S days. If I can get to the New Year the same weight as I am now I'll take it as a win, and then really focus in January.

Need to go for a walk - I ricked my back a bit yesterday at trampoline and it's really stiff today. Think I need to do a bit of gentle walking to loosen everything up!

PosiePootlePerkins · 12/12/2016 14:45

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I actually think it has helped me to have the structure of NoS, at least I can be in control of my eating if nothing else!
Mimiasovitch I agree about alcohol, I am now only having a glass or two at the weekends, it is really helping me to stay on track. Plus I only seem to enjoy the odd glass now (getting old!)
Cheddar maintain over the Christmas period would definitely be an achievement and is a good way of looking at it.

mimiasovitch · 12/12/2016 21:37

God today has been hard. I've stayed on track, mostly, but its been painful. I am super stressed, and that sends me all out of kilter foodwise. I did succumb to an amaretto biscuit in work, as it was fresh out of the oven and I really needed to try a homemade one! I guess that makes it a fail, but I'm just relieved that I didn't fall any further.

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/12/2016 06:32

Well done mimiasovitch I'd definitely count that as a win! Some days seem so much harder than others and getting through them is an achievement in itself.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/12/2016 17:00

Mimi, I failed and ate a mince pie yesterday. After all my hard work resisting them on Sunday! Dinner was cauliflower cheese and I think it just wasn't filling enough - I was starving afterwards and reading Georgette Heyer with lots of people drinking Madeira, so I succumbed to a mince pie and a glass of pudding wine. I'm not sure where pudding wine comes in the scheme of things - Reinhard says 2 drinks are fine, beer or wine etc, but not sugary drinks. Pudding wine is sweet but I had it in a sherry glass so the amount was much smaller than a normal glass of wine.

mimiasovitch · 13/12/2016 17:14

God I LOVE Georgette Heyer. And mince pies.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 15/12/2016 12:36

Still not doing well on the mince pies front. Blush

I have a plan for January! I am really struggling with the slow pace/non-existent weight loss on No S, and I really want to lose 2 stone by May the 19th. But I don't want to abandon No S completely - I just want to lose a stone quickly and then spend a lot of time learning how to eat to lose slowly. So, in January, I am going to introduce a bit of fasting to help the weight-loss along. I am going to do 2 fast days a week (Mon and Thurs), have N days on Tues, Wed and Fri, and S days at weekends. Plus lots of exercise. When I've lost a stone or maybe a little more, I'll drop the fast days and learn how to adjust my N days so as not to put it all straight back on again.

mimiasovitch · 15/12/2016 16:19

That sounds good. I'm not losing, but there are just too many S days around. Today will be good, but it's the work party tomorrow and there will be wine. Also 3 courses, but I've been to this venue before and the food is nothing to write home about. I'll have dessert because I'll need its stomach lining properties. Then next week we're off to Krakow for the week, and apparently there will be much to eat there. I'm going to have to say sod it until after Christmas, and then consider how best to proceed. I may need to look at portion sizes. And not eat so much bread. Sad

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 17/12/2016 20:19

I have also said sod it, without the excuse of going to Krakow! Bugger it, it's a week until Christmas!

Deadsouls · 18/12/2016 09:42

This sounds very common sense and realistic, can I join?
I'd like to lose 1.5/2 stone but love the idea of 1/2 stone at a time.

Plus the S's.
Can I clarify that 'sweets' basically means no sugar at all?

Thanks all

Deadsouls · 18/12/2016 09:43

My issues are basically eating too much. Big portions and snacking.
Plus seconds.

mimiasovitch · 18/12/2016 14:10

Deadsouls - you can have sugar in tea, it's a more a case of no sweet stuff that is pointless for you, iyswim. If you always have sugar in tea, or want a bit of honey on your porridgethat's one thing, but haribo are obviously off limits, as there is nothing going on there other than the sugar. I really love Haribo.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/12/2016 19:41

Hello, welcome! Sweets = puddings, biscuits, cakes, sweets, chocolate, fizzy drinks - anything where the main ingredient is sugar. I think Reinhard counsels against jam etc too, because they are just sugar. Orange juice is ok, but anything that isn't 100% fruit juice isn't.

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/12/2016 21:10

Hello everyone and welcome Deadsouls. Hope everyone has had a good weekend. Friday was technically a fail for me, I was just about to be served my staff Christmas lunch at the local pub (main course only!) when I had a message from my DS to say he'd been karate kicked in the hand by his 'friend' and was in a lot of pain. Abandoned my meal (boo hoo!) and took him to minor injuries where we discovered he had a broken little finger! Lunch ended up being a packet of crisps and a flapjack from the vending machine. Sometimes life just conspires against us.
The weekend has been OK. Had a few leads on my missing cat but so far no luck. Got given lots of chocolates at school which I will share with all my visiting relatives over Christmas!
I shall weigh in tomorrow.

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/12/2016 06:32

Another pound off, must be all the stressConfused

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/12/2016 21:18

Good for you, Posie!

I have quite blatantly given up until Jan 4th. Blush

Bestbees · 20/12/2016 06:48

Me too cheddar! Hoping for not too much damage and then back on the wagon January where I will aim for a sugar free month!

mimiasovitch · 20/12/2016 16:18

Hi all from chilly Poland. Just for the record, NEVER come here if you want to not eat (much). There are mulled wine stands everywhere, and crepes, and dumplings and all other manner of embiggening foodstuffs. I'd kick myself, but I can't be bothered! That new year though - that's gonna be the year of restraint.

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/12/2016 07:17

mimiasovitch I hope you are having a lovely time. I completely failed yesterday! It was the mulled wine that loosened my willpower....ended up having snacks, sweets and seconds, oops. When my two best friends are around I just seem to struggle, we always eat drink and be merry! Its part of our friendship dynamic, unfortunately I am the one who is overweight! Luckily NoS will accommodate my slip up, I am back on it today.

Deadsouls · 21/12/2016 17:18

So....I did a couple of days. My portion sizes are too big though. I'm definitely over-compensating right now because of no snacks.

Then today had a nap, woke up and just ate crisps and chocolate. So...start again!
