The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Good going thewaitress I hope today has gone well for you too. My almost 13 yr old DS is being impossible so I am trying hard not to eat out of sheer frustration!Angry

beela · 07/03/2017 18:52

Well I made it to the GPs to stand on the scales today. Still going down slowly but surely, I'm averaging around 1lb per week.

Still struggling a little bit with the snacking, usually around this time of day. But I have been alcohol free for a week now so bonus points there Smile

thewaitresses · 07/03/2017 19:30

Hello! Checking in...
B: porridge, honey, cashews and raisins
L: roast beef salad
D: chicken and sweet potato salad.

Sounds pretty good right? Now for the confessions...

  1. ate two slices of kids pizza (very small pizza) annoyingly not as I felt hungry but because they were complaining about the topping and I hate seeing food go to waste (note to self - I am not a dustbin)
  2. I've had a glass of wine with dinner and just had two squares of dairy milk (hard day at work) Sorry I think I've broken all of the Ss tonight but I'm still feeling positive that I didn't snack in the day and didn't actually feel hungry. I will weigh in the morning to assess the damage.
twofloorsup · 07/03/2017 20:10

Hi all.
I've had cereal again for dinner tonight been so busy and was starving when I got home and needed something fast.
Can't wait to move now and restock the kitchen !

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/03/2017 07:08

Beela 1lb a week is excellent! Well done, remember the more you are able to resist the snacks the stronger your good habits become. Flex those mental muscles!
thewaitress a glass or two of wine is allowedSmile I try not to in the week but its fine if you fancy it.
Twofloorsup do you have a moving date?
Ariston and everyone else hope you're OKSmile

AristonAndOn · 08/03/2017 07:36

I like the flexing of mental muscles saying Posie. My old habits of a long time reared their ugly head last week and they so strong. I have really had to flex my mental muscles to get back on track. I've been back on it since Monday and I'm definately feeling better already.
Beela, that is a great regular weight loss. Two, I'd be starving just having cereal at night, but hopefully you will get settled soon.
Waitress I enjoy red wine and will have it fairly often, just not too much in one go 😃

beela · 08/03/2017 09:40

Ok people. Here's a challenge: I want to lose weight. DH wants to gain weight (he gets quite worried if he misses his daily chocolate bar etc Envy).

I've found some lovely recipes recently which have been filling but relatively low calorie but I feel a bit guilty making them for dh. I'd be really pissed off if he deliberately made high calorie meals for me so that he could gain weight! Wwyd?? Am I over thinking this? I have been buying him cheesecake too!

AristonAndOn · 08/03/2017 11:12

Hi Beela. How annoying 😜 I'm sure he can still have the lower calorie meals, I bet they are healthy, you just need to increase the calories with larger amount of carbs and protein. My Dh wants to lose weight, but he is always snacking in between meals. Can your dh have a mid morning and afternoon snack, not just a chocbar but something like nuts?

AristonAndOn · 08/03/2017 11:14

Oh and I also do things like sprinkle cheese on one side Ida cottage pie. Sadly I have the uncheesed side Envy

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/03/2017 11:25

Beela, no S is good for this - there are not many rules re the meals so you can make "normal" meals for both of you.

He can always have more or something additional ( pie on the side! ) that you don't have if you fancy cooking the low calorie recipes you have found. He can have pudding and snacks as well if he feels he needs to.

beela · 08/03/2017 13:25

Yeah, I've tried demonstrating how easy it is to gain weight! And told him he needs to instigate a mid-afternoon snack as well as a mid-morning one. Basically he needs to do the opposite of no S.

The problem is he doesn't have a massive appetite. So his aim from food is maximum calories/fat with minimum filling up. Basically the opposite to me.

Last night I made chicken and pesto filo parcels, with salad, and he had new potatoes on the side as well, so that worked ok. I think I'm just going to have to start putting cream on top of all his food Wink

twofloorsup · 08/03/2017 15:13

Beela I was just going to say about cream , and butter and other calorific lushness Smile

Posie we are off on the 18th so not long now. Just bought some eggs and beans and had a proper meal for lunch it was heaven !

Ariston you're doing well just don't give up Smile

I have weighed myself this morning after reading all your weight losses lately and I have lost a little over half a stone since new year. Bear in mind I've eaten massive plates and exactly what I want , I'm pretty pleased with that.

With regards to cereal for dinner I have my dinner so late that if I haven't got a meal then cereal only has to last me til I fall asleep if that makes sense so it is plenty.

thewaitresses · 08/03/2017 16:30

Very similar situation here beela- can only add to what others have said - greater amounts and an extra carb to add to his meal.

I've lost 2lbs since the weekend (probably just goes to show my weekend excesses!) but I'm not doing very well again today. I'm still going to document here as it's helping me to understand why I snack.

B: cooked breakfast of 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 toast, scrambled egg and orange juice
L: left over chicken salad from last night.

So far so good but this afternoon I have visited a friend and we had grapes to snack on. I just mindlessly shoved them in and when I arrived home I felt so hungry and already felt like I'd cheated so have had four crackers with cream cheese. It was almost like the snacking made me hungrier. Planning bangers and mash for tea.

twofloorsup · 08/03/2017 17:50

Thewaitresses could you not have made your breakfast much bigger so you were fuller for longer ?
I have an absolutely mahoosive breakfast everyday as I have to wait up to 7 hours for lunch.

Cocopopsrule · 08/03/2017 19:28

Hi everyone - hi thewaitresses and 160
Just checking in to keep me on track. I didnt manage monday but have had good days today and yesterday. Just thursday to get through then I can weigh myself on Friday morning and look forward to the weekend. I'm having a bit of a rubbish time with very heavy workload, my mum needed loads of support at the moment and a sick kid. Usually I'd console myself with food and snacks but I've done ok today with porridge, cheese sandwich with rest of plate cramed with as much fruit and veg as I could get on it and lentil onepot for dinner. Thanks for this thread. It helps went my mind is saying sod it, let's eat to feel better.

twofloorsup · 08/03/2017 21:38

Hi Cocopops sorry you're having a tough time at the moment but you're sounding strong so that's good.

I need to have a word with myself as I've just had toast for dinner Hmm

I will make a meal tomorrow !

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/03/2017 22:26

Twofloorsup not long to go then! Will you still be two floors up when you move?GrinWink Don't change your username, I won't know who you are!
Thewaitress don't worry, my favourite mantra on here is 'mark it and move on' (I say it all the time and bore everyone!) Seriously though, this is a very forgiving diet, just get back on it tomorrow. Regarding the grapes leading to further snacking, I find a saying that I read on the NoS forum helpful. No need to crash the car into a brick wall just because you dented the bumper. Or something along those lines. Basically when you have a small slip up, try and stop it there and then. Easier said than done I know.
Cocopops it sounds like you are staying strong through tough times. That's a great test, to not turn to food when you feel emotionally low or vulnerable. Well done. Hope things improve for you soon.
Well I am feeling pissed off with DH this evening, I love him to bits but he can be such a stubborn bugger it drives me insane. Most annoying bit being that he didn't even realise how much he'd upset me! Men. Anyway I had a glass of wine, which helped! And stayed away from the kitchen cupboards. Small miracle.
One more day and then the weekend. Hang on in there everyone Smile

twofloorsup · 08/03/2017 23:51

Posie I will be one floor up when I move but I've become quite attached to my nickname "two" so will indeed be keeping it Smile
Well done on not cupboard raiding !

PosiePootlePerkins · 09/03/2017 06:27

That's good two I hope everything goes well on the day.

twofloorsup · 09/03/2017 06:32

Thank you.
Whoever makes our shiny new thread can you link me to it please ?
Bit of a tech dinosaur and don't want to lose my support Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 09/03/2017 17:03

Shall I do it now? I can't believe we've almost filled up the thread! I'll put it in Weight loss chat and just call it The No S Diet (no imagination!)

twofloorsup · 09/03/2017 20:19

Go for it Smile

I've come to bed as I'm exhausted but the minute I laid down I'm hungry.
I thought I'd be asleep before hunger hit !

AristonAndOn · 10/03/2017 05:06

Looking forward to our shiny new thread 👍🏼👍🏼😘

twofloorsup · 10/03/2017 07:32
