The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Step away from the snacks!

I am back up to 9.11 after my carb filled weekend but hoping it will go fast!

Bestbees · 29/11/2016 15:53

Oops posted too soon!

Welcome newbies. Lots of good support here.

Cheddar I agree about plodding on even when it is taking a long time to get everything under control. I keep reminding myself that this is a way of life not a diet and I want to keep it up forever. So a few months to get it right is actually no time at all however I intend to try to keep away from sugar totally so I could be a good adaption? I have given up added sugar for November and to be honest after a week it has been easy and my desire to snack is way way down.

Hope everyone else has had a good day. I am hungry but having a cuppa and then looking forward guilt free to a dinner of roast beef, bitter bean mash and lots of veggies! Definitely enjoying the idea that I can essentially have what I like savoury wise and eating big yummy meals rather than counting and minimising only to stuff later

mimiasovitch · 30/11/2016 10:41

Well, I've had two pretty good days. Didn't miss the snacks too much, and have felt ok with it all. I've had porridge with a banana so far today, and am having a latte right now. Is that ok? I've avoided milky drinks so far, and I work in a restaurant so they're a big part of my day, but I was hoping that as part of my breakfast it'd be alright, as long as I stick to tea or americano for the rest of the day. I do feel like I look to bread too much, but I want to leave that battle for another time.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/11/2016 11:03

Oh dear, Posie, sorry to hear you had bad news. How did you get on for the rest of the day? You've been really good at this, so one failure isn't the end of the world!

Lattes are ok, Mimi, so long as you don't have syrup shots in them. I'm trying to drink more water but it's so cold just now I keep going for tea instead and being awake for hours buzzing.

I think I might introduce a mod - on bog-standard weekends, when I'm not doing anything in particular, I'm going to aim for 3 sensible meals and one treat, not lots! Last weekend I ate all evening just because I could and it was far too much and I felt horrible afterwards. If I'm out doing something fun then I'm going to just go with it, though - this Saturday I will be at a wedding, so I will have a lot to drink, and there'll be the usual 3 course meal, and then on Sunday I will be very hungover, so I'm giving myself a pass on that one.

Bestbees, bitter bean mash sounds lush!

How long does AF-related weight retention usually last, do you know? AF started today and I'm 2lbs up - will that continue all week, or is it just really the first couple of days?

PosiePootlePerkins · 30/11/2016 21:01

Thanks cheddar I'm OK today, back on it. Just had one of those days where it all got too much. I did end up completely stuffing my face yesterday but it didn't make me feel any better! Thank goodness NoS is so forgiving. Was cross with myself though, my first fail this month.
I find AF usually makes me gain a pound or two which then comes off again after its finished. I like the sound of your mod but I know I'm not there mentally yet, maybe when I've got a few more weeks months under my belt! Hope you enjoy the wedding!
Mimiasovitch I have discovered Douwe Egberts hazlenut coffee which is only 2 calories a cup. They do a caramel one too I believe.
I also drink a lot of tea!

singme · 30/11/2016 21:23

Thanks everyone, lots of great support here. I could do with some motivation. Both yesterday and today I've had porridge and berries for breakfast and a small salad for lunch and then been ravenous at dinner. Last night I went out with a friend and ended up having pudding, tonight I made fish and veg which was good, but I ate some cheese slices while making DH a sandwich. So not so bad, but really need to get my post work hunger under control! Managing to avoid snacks in the day knowing I can have a nice dinner, but crack as soon as I get home!

PosiePootlePerkins · 30/11/2016 21:32

Hi singme. The only way I can cope with waiting for dinner is to eat with my boys at around 5.30/6pm. Any later than that and I get twitchy. A glass of milk sometimes helps tide me over. The plus side after two months is that I am less hungry between meals and this is noticeable at the weekends too. Not to say I don't snack at the weekend, but the urge to eat is getting less as time goes on.
(Apart from my slip up yesterdayBlush)

PosiePootlePerkins · 30/11/2016 21:34

PS singme also definitely have a bigger lunch! You don't need to worry as long as it fits on a plate. No way could I survive on a small salad for lunch! greedy

whowouldknow · 30/11/2016 21:41

Oh can I join-this sounds worth a try. I'd like to lose a stone-maybe a bit more. I've been training more than before but I think nothing week change until I sort out my intake!

mimiasovitch · 30/11/2016 22:14

I had a great day, in terms of no snackage, sugar or seconds. Even though my mil brought round a cheesecake and dh opened a chocolate orange. It may have helped that I had lemon sole and chips for lunch, so there was no chance of me being hungry before dinner. Still, I'm taking it as a win.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 01/12/2016 19:00

Singme, I think you need more lunch! Salad is fine but I need it to have lots of protein/good fats in to keep me going until dinner (and I eat at 6 too!).

Welcome, Whowould! What sort of training do you do? This way of eating has really stopped my mindless snacking, and now I'm working on my portion sizes/crap ratio.

Mimi, that's definitely a win!

I have been eating crap again - but only one plate of it! This is due to not having done a proper food shop at the weekend. Never mind - onwards! Learning new habits one at a time.

PosiePootlePerkins · 02/12/2016 22:24

Just checking in to say have a good S weekend everyone! Smile
I am having a planned Non weekend S day on Monday, although in actual fact its only dinner that we're out for, so will try and have a normal breakfast and lunch. Am hoping to look reasonably presentable in an evening dress, although I really wish I was 2 stone lighter!

singme · 04/12/2016 17:31

Hope everyone had a good S weekend. Tomorrow is a new week for me. Going to do a workout tonight to get on the right track and really stick to it this week Smile

mimiasovitch · 04/12/2016 19:05

I am having a fabulous weekend. Despite the rather large volume of gavi we are consuming, I have been unnaturally restrained with the snacking. It's quite bizarre. It's been wonderful, but I don't think it'll be difficult to return to my new normal tomorrow. Hope everyone is as super chilled as I feel.

PosiePootlePerkins · 05/12/2016 07:16

Great news mimiasovitch! Its really great when NoS habits start creeping into S days. I found myself staring at a bag of marshmallows yesterday, I put one in my mouth and boy it was sweet! Didn't go back for more.
Have lost another half pound. Have a good week everyone Smile

Bestbees · 05/12/2016 07:25

Hmm m well my month of no sugar ended on Friday. Had an unrestrained 3 days as two Christmas parties. I really think the allowing of sugar back in just made me binge. I ate until I felt unwell and have hideously woken up 5lb heavier Shock

So back to no snacking and no sugar at all until Christmas probaly 23rd ish. It works better for me. Maybe in the new year I will work on having one s day a week but processed sugar just unleashes something in me.

Hope everyone did better than me!

Bestbees · 07/12/2016 22:37

Have I killed the thread?

Hope everyone is doing great well.

mimiasovitch · 07/12/2016 22:59

Well, I've had a strong start to the week. I could really eat some crap right now, but am consoling myself with crappy telly instead! I did taste test some c

mimiasovitch · 07/12/2016 23:02

Dammit, pressed post too soon.

I taste tested some cocktails this afternoon, ready for a Christmas party we had in this evening. I did only have a sip of each. It's a good job I was driving, as I could easily have finished the 'white Christmas'. One for the weekend I think. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Bestbees · 08/12/2016 07:11

Good work mimi!

Dropped most of those weekend pounds easily and finding it pretty easy to stick to. Still loving the simplicity and enjoying eating yummy big meals of what I fancy!!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 08/12/2016 09:59

I'm still here, plodding along!

Mimi, cocktails sound delicious! I taste-tested some maple pecan brandy cream that DH bought as I placed it on top of his iced mince pie. I'm sure it can't have been enough to count as a fail - I really just licked my finger.

I'm hovering, weight-wise, but I totted up all the days I'll be away/socialising over Christmas and it would involve 5 extra S days this month. Is that too many? I'm going out tonight for a work do with 3 course meal and knowing that I'll be having much wine and chocolate tart tonight is not helping me resist the siren call of mince pies in the cupboard and I've got another night out on the 22nd. Then I'll be staying at my dad's/visiting friends between 27th and 29th. I am inclined to view that as a holiday and just go for it, and re-group in the New Year.

I've signed up for a second trampoline class, so that'll be twice a week now, and I'm really trying to exercise at least 5 times a week. I did the Shred on Tuesday morning and trampoline last night, and my neck is really sore now so I'm taking today as a rest day.

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/12/2016 19:59

Hi everyone how did it get to Thursday? Havimg a pretty manic week but managing to stick to NoS apart from Monday which was already planned in.
On a different note I am a bit stressed right now as my cat has gone missing Sad so I am trying not to be an emotional eater right now.

mimiasovitch · 08/12/2016 23:10

Oh Posie - fingers crossed you find him (or her). I know I'd be in bits.

PosiePootlePerkins · 09/12/2016 06:31

Thanks mimiasovitch still no sign Sad I hate to think of her out there scared and hungry. We've dropped leaflets to neighbours and asked them to check garages etc, and contacted the microchip company... just a waiting game now.
Hope everyone is having a good week.

mimiasovitch · 09/12/2016 17:39

God I can't wait until tomorrow. I get a lie in, then there's a packet of mini stollen with my name on it. At least I got through this week quite comfortably without incident. Hurrah for the weekend.

Any news on your cat Posie?
