The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Hope you got some sleep and feel better this morning ariston.

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/03/2017 09:00

Ariston sorry you've felt rough, I hope today is better for you. Have a good weekend everyone. I am attempting no snacks this weekend, I will see how it goes!

twofloorsup · 04/03/2017 09:35

Ariston I always feel rough after eating badly it's funny how your body protests.
I hope you all have a good weekend.
I've dreamed last night that I was head first into snacking all day long (like I used to) and I woke up feeling really guilty until I realised it was just a dream Grin
I'm going to finish my Reece's hamper this weekend and am still using up what I have in so as not to have to move it all when I leave here.
There are some interesting combinations occurring !
The support here is brilliant especially as it's not a diet I feel I can chat to friends about.

AristonAndOn · 04/03/2017 17:40

Thanks for your best wishes. Felt poorly all night and day. Serves me right. I need to hit these bumps in the road and get over them without turning to every day bingeing. Still not feeling very confident. I can cope with physical health hunger, but mental cravings seem to defeat me. Thanks again for your support. I'm glad two it was just a dream!

twofloorsup · 05/03/2017 08:45

Ariston so am I Smile
Hope you're feeling better today, don't be so hard on yourself it's hard to undo a whole lifetime of habits.
I think I've only done so well because I'm very stubborn so the no snacks rule has held me fast when otherwise I'd have just had something to keep me going.

PosiePootlePerkins · 05/03/2017 19:11

So my no snacking has gone well this weekend, I have felt much more in control. My meals have been very filling and I have had seconds and sweets at mealtimes, but the lack of snacks inbetween has really helped me feel better. I am definitely sticking to this. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning although even if no change, I'll be happy just because I feel I'm on the way to sorting out a major issue.
Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

twofloorsup · 05/03/2017 20:13

That's fab Posie well done !
I am still sticking to my three plates but yesterday and today had two Reece's cups on my lunch plate. It's all gone now and I can't say I'll miss it. I no longer have any puddingy type food in so will have to actively seek it out now if I want it which more often than not I don't.

beela · 05/03/2017 20:49

Well done Posie Smile

My weekend has been very moderate, I am getting more used to the 'sometimes' and it feels good.

My goals for this week:

  • keep my snacking urges under control
  • brave the weighing scales!
AristonAndOn · 05/03/2017 21:23

Hi all. Well done everyone. This is all a learning curve. Good luck everyone for this week.

PosiePootlePerkins · 05/03/2017 22:25

Sounds like we're all very focussed! I can't remember another diet I have stuck to for 5 months and felt so positive. Usually I have given up after a couple of months because I found it so hard to stick to 100% of the time. The weight loss may be slow (for me) but the benefits are fab!Smile

twofloorsup · 05/03/2017 22:28

Posie I stuck to slimming world for 18 months once. The second I stopped going I regained all my weight and more.
This is so different as I do not feel deprived at all. On slimming world i used to cheat so much and spend half the week trying to make up for it.

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/03/2017 06:35

Oh yes two the starving yourself on weigh in day, wearing your lightest dress, then going home afterwards and stuffing your face! Crazy. Don't know how you stuck that for 18months! You must have been sick of muller lightsWink

thewaitresses · 06/03/2017 07:16

Hello! This sounds like the place for me Smile. I keep trying faddy diets (even contemplated cabbage soup last week but was eating chocolate cookies by 2pm!) I have a stone to lose and it keeps creeping back on whenever I lose a pound here and there. I've also started to notice how what I'm eating effects my mood/motivation/feeling of wellbeing. 3 square meals a day sounds like a good starting point!

beela · 06/03/2017 07:46

Hello thewaitresses, come join us!

twofloorsup · 06/03/2017 08:17

Welcome !
Posie I volunteered for the social team so I felt obliged to go each week !
Deluded.

160A4 · 06/03/2017 12:35

I'd like to join too. I need to lose a lot Blush of weight.
I think I was on a similar thread a couple of years ago. I loved the concept of No S but didn't get past the first week or so because of intense hunger.
I've been a grazer for several years since living alone now (rarely prepare a decent meal for myself), so I found it difficult to eat enough at meal times to get me through to the next one. I drank plenty of water but ended up giving in.
I understand that hunger can be a good thing and how much more enjoyable a meal is when you're hungry for it, but did any of you find that the hunger reduced a bit the longer you stuck to No S?

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/03/2017 14:06

Welcome thewaitress and 160A4 lots of support and advice here, also worth looking at the NoS website and discussion forum. 160A4 I have found the hunger gets easier to deal with, I wouldn't say I'm less hungry between meals but have just got used to the feeling and don't mind it any more if that makes sense! Mind you, I have large meals because I am a gannetGrin
thewaitress this is the opposite of a faddy diet and probably unlike any diet you've ever followed before! Slow weight loss in my case because of being a gannet as I just mentioned! Seriously I love my food and generally have large but healthy platefuls. It is great for addressing your relationship with food.
two crikey I can't imagine being on a social team for Slimming world! Bet that was, er, interesting GrinWink

I have lost 3/4lb but that is over two weeks. Still, going in the right direction and hopefully my no snack weekends will help. I have a date to start my Invisalign braces, 10th April, very excited and looking forward to having a very real reason to not snack!!
Have a good week everyone Smile

thewaitresses · 06/03/2017 16:56

Thanks for the welcome and hello 160A4! I'm struggling on til tea time (will probably be very early tonight!) but have done ok today...
B: porridge, honey and a banana
L: two poached eggs on toast and an apple
I felt ravenous at 11am (usually biscuit time Blush) but kept busy and had a cuppa. Am feeling ravenous now (also usually biscuit time BlushBlush). It's good as I'm seeing my trigger times and I'm REALLY looking forward to dinner!

twofloorsup · 06/03/2017 17:00

It was an eye opener !
I find the hunger is still there but I have learned to live happily alongside it rather than fear it.
With my previous eating habits I don't think I knew what hunger was !

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/03/2017 17:00

Well done thewaitress you've made a great start! If you are really hungry you could have a glass of milk to tide you over. Also you could have probably had a yoghurt or another piece of fruit with your lunch depending on what size plate you're using. It takes a while to get the balance right so you eat enough o get you through to the next meal. I usually eat dinner early around 5.30/6ish with my kids as I like to have a mini fast from 6pm ish to 7am.
It does get easier so just get through a day at a time!

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/03/2017 17:02

Twofloorsup yep, every diet I have followed over the years have encouraged snacking, be it carrot sticks or bloody mulller lights or a snack bar etc. This is the first time I have learnt to recognise and live with actual hunger!

160A4 · 06/03/2017 17:07

Thanks Posie and TwoFloors, I'm going to give it at least a month and hopefully by then the hunger will be a bit easier to deal with!

I'm soooo peckish now, afternoon is the hardest time for me with regard to craving junk. Supper will be at 6.30pm tonight which is a bit earlier than usual so I'm drinking lots of water while I wait Grin

twofloorsup · 06/03/2017 18:09

160A4
I found within three weeks my body was used to the change and loving it.
It's a big adjustment to make if you're used to snacking.
Slimming world almost prescribed snacks like drugs Grin

AristonAndOn · 06/03/2017 20:17

Welcome the waitress and 160. Lots of support here througheasier and hard times. I've had a tough week and been supported brilliantly. The hunger is hard to start with, especially as I would eat all day long. Your body dies adjust though and I find I enjoy my meals so much more. Good luck

thewaitresses · 06/03/2017 20:20

I made it through to dinner (at 5.30pm Grin) roast beef. I've been really busy this evening sorting life admin and haven't felt hungry at all thankfully. Yes the never feeling hungry is a problem for me on diets like SW. When something is a free food I will just eat it non-stop - 6 Muller Lights anyone?! Have to learn that it's ok to feel hungry between meals...
