The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Have definitely fallen off the wagon the last few weeks-work us full of mince pies, chocolate etc. I have decided to start again after Christmas but in the meantime try and note when I snack and why so I can think of better strategies to keep to it next year.

Deadsouls don't worry about portion size in the beginning, I ate loads, as much as I could fit on the plate! Because it was a whole new way of eating for me it took a while to figure out how much I needed on my plate. Over time your appetite adjusts and you'll gradually start wanting less, well that's what has happened for me. The main focus in the early days is getting the habits sorted, the rest will follow. As for going wrong, NoS is the most forgiving diet I've ever been on, just get back on it the next day! I have lost 8 pounds in 3 months which might not sound a lot but I have had slip ups along the way and it still works for me. I am happy to have slow weight loss because I have never felt this good about my relationship with food.
Sorry that was a bit of an essay! Basically stick with it!Grin

PosiePootlePerkins

Thank you for the encouraging message! I feel hopeful about this way of eating and liked what you wrote about changing your relationship with food.
I think it does start with the habits and i think it'll balance out re: portion size. I've so unconsciously snacked for so long that I haven't really had a sense of how much I've been eating.
I've read the web page too and really like how the author writes. Very honest and straightforward.

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/12/2016 20:40

Deadsouls the NoS forum is a great place for support and encouragement, my user name on there is Bluebell if you want to read any of my ramblings, some of my early posts on there show my thoughts when I first started. Good luck and hang on in there!

PosiePootlePerkins · 28/12/2016 08:08

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. I have slipped back into all of my bad old habits and it doesn't feel good. I am drawing a line today and aiming for three NoS days now. Have only put on a pound but it was more the shift in my mindset that bothered me, I really don't want to undo all of the good things that NoS has helped me achieve.
So, back on plan, we have no more visitors (I have done rather a lot of hosting!) and all the treats can wait until the weekend.

Bestbees · 30/12/2016 08:48

Morning!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I am about to head home and expect a massive weight gain! Planning on January 1st start again. Going to do a no obvious sugar month accept for two previously arranged social events where I will not go mad on sugar but will have desert with a meal.

Well done posie for only putting on a pound and great that's you are looking forward to getting back on it!

PosiePootlePerkins · 30/12/2016 20:56

Hi Bestbees hope you've had a lovely time, good luck getting on the scales! I have had a good three days and feeling back in control again, although looking forward to a few treats over the weekend.

Bestbees · 01/01/2017 09:39

Happy new year ladies!

Scale this morning say 10.1 which I am OK with. Especially as last year it was 10.6 so a better starting point.

Back on no s today and looking forward to it!

twofloorsup · 01/01/2017 15:40

Hi all and happy new year to you all.
I've been looking at this diet and wondering if it's for me. I have a massive sugar problem and need to drastically reduce puddingy stuff in my diet as its not making me feel great.
My question is this ;
On S days , do you snack , have seconds and sugar , or is it just the sugar element you can have ie as a meal instead of savoury ?
Bit confused Smile

Bestbees · 01/01/2017 16:51

U can do anything on an s day! People tend to find at first they binge wildly on those days but the idea is to keep plodding on and hope that eventually things even out a bit. I think as you get used to not snacking your appetite reduces a bit and as it becomes habit you end up not seeing s days as a free for all. When I am doing well I find I end up mostly have just a couple of s meals rather than a mad weekend of it. Christmas on the other hand was a whole different story!

twofloorsup · 01/01/2017 16:57

Ah ok thank you that seems easy enough !
Am going to give it a go Smile

goldielookingchain · 01/01/2017 21:49

Hi guys! Just read through this whole thread and I would love to join you if you'll have me. I've been under bad habits for past 6 months and would like to loose a stone and get back to the gym.

An NoS for me is deffo a no alcohol day too as that has completely got out of hand in past year.

Happy new year everyone!

Big NoS week for me.

LumelaMme · 01/01/2017 21:59

Hello all. I'd like to join you too. I have 10-12lb to lose.

PosiePootlePerkins · 01/01/2017 22:03

Welcome everyone! Wishing you a happy new year and a warm welcome to the NoS thread. We're a friendly lot, any questions just ask! Have a good NoS week everyone. Smile

mimiasovitch · 01/01/2017 22:19

Evening all and happy new year. After a fortnight of troughing on everything and anything I could, I got on the scales this morning and...,,,,the same!!!! This is probably because work has been so busy this week I've not stopped. I'm sure exhaustion burns more calories. So on the back of this tomorrow will be a green day of No S awesomeness, (and I will hide the champagne truffles before I go robbed just in case). Good luck all Halo

panicovernow · 02/01/2017 01:13

I've just read the whole thread and I think this sounds like a good plan. I've got 2 stones to lose. I'm 5'6 and 12stone 10Shock. Tomorrow we're invited to my mums for lunch so will start Tuesday plus this allows time to read up on the website before starting. From what I've read on here I think it's a case of a complete meal fitting on a dinner plate? So for lunch could I have chicken salad yogurt and fruit? Will read up more tomorrow but I'd like to join you for weekly weigh ins pleaseSmile

PosiePootlePerkins · 02/01/2017 07:49

Hi panic and welcome. Yes that's right, you just count three plates a day, as long as it fits on a plate you can have it! I will confess to sometimes having rather full plates! Whatever it takes to get you through to the next meal. Over time you will find that you appetite decreases and you naturally eat a bit less. Good luck!

PosiePootlePerkins · 02/01/2017 08:01

Just weighed in, put on 1 1/2lb over Xmas, not too bad considering how much I have eaten! Back on it properly today.

Cakingbad · 02/01/2017 12:47

Hello. I would like to join you all please if I may. I have been looking at the No S website and it seems really sensible. Just weighed myself and I am 12 stone which is the heaviest I have ever been. I am only 5ft 4! I would like to get down to 11 stone this year which is what I weighed for years. I tried the 5:2 diet last year and while it has worked well for other people I know, it did not suit me and I fell off the wagon and then put even more bloody weight on. I have never tried any other diets because I have never been bothered about my weight before. But I now realise that I am overweight and need to change my ways.
So here goes. I'm aiming to have three plates a day, no more than one glass of wine a day and the odd snack at weekends if I want it.
If I haven't lost any weight at the end of the month, I will look at plate size.
Good luck to us all Smile

GreyandGrumpy48 · 02/01/2017 14:21

Back on track after Christmas. I weighed in at 12 stone 5 yesterday and I'm determined to keep to the no s guidelines and up my exercise to lose the weight slowly but permanently this time

Cakingbad · 02/01/2017 14:52

Good luck Greyand. I want to lose slowly but permanently too.
Half way through my first day and its obvious how much I snack on auto-pilot. Seems like I'm always opening the fridge door to see what's on offer - and just caught myself randomly picking up and peeling a satsuma. Have put it back in the bowl for someone else.

mimiasovitch · 02/01/2017 15:35

It's really hard, especially after several weeks spent with the biscuit selection box in front of the telly! Had yoghurt for breakfast, noodles at Wagamama for lunch and am about to have a latte whilst I'm waiting for dd2 to arrive on her very late train. I revised a muffin, and am feeling very proud of myself. They look lovely Sad

PosiePootlePerkins · 02/01/2017 16:40

Welcome caking. I found that at the beginning, I never realised how much I used to snack until I tried not to! Over time it does become more automatic though.
Hi grey and mimiasovitch and good luck as we start off our NoS 2017!

twofloorsup · 02/01/2017 16:42

I make frozen banana smoothies.
Would you all count that as a meal or a snack ?

PosiePootlePerkins · 02/01/2017 18:45

I'm no expert but if it has bananas and presumably milk/yoghurt then it could be a breakfast. I don't think you could have it inbetween meals because of the banana. It is OK to have a glass of milk to tide you over between meals and that would be preferable to actual food.
