The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Been away all inclusive for 10 days and come back half a stone heavier 😞 Still today is a new day and new week so onwards and upwards. I would like to lose the holiday weight by Christmas but not sure that is doable 😞

PosiePootlePerkins · 21/11/2016 12:34

Grey I hope you had a lovely holiday. I did exactly the same in the Summer, I have now lost 9 lbs but it has taken me 2 and a half months!
Carrot I hope you are feeling better and find No S a bit easier this week.
Cheddar good on you for doing couch to 5k, I did it a few years ago and was so proud of myself. Sadly dodgy knees rule out running now for me. Once you get into the training it does get a bit addictive!

Bestbees · 21/11/2016 13:44

Still here!

Phew that you maintained posie. Also good learning about feeling full. The trick is to not want to over indulge!

Cheddar good luck with the couch to 5k. I did it and the ran a 10k which I couldn't believe!

I am still 9.11 so not much movement but had a reasonable amount to eat this weekend. However am finding no snacking pretty easy so now that it embedded I might try to cut a little bit down each meal maybe cutting down on the carbs.

Couldashouldawoulda · 21/11/2016 13:59

I'd like to join in, please! 9st 6.5lb this morning. I have a bad habit of snacking loads, so if I can conquer that I should lose a few pounds quite easily, I hope. Aiming for a Christmas party dress in mid-Dec!

PosiePootlePerkins · 22/11/2016 07:16

Hi bestbees pleased you're sticking with it. No snacking was so hard for me at first but now it just seems normal. Cutting down on carbs may well help you but make sure you feel full enough after a meal! Otherwise it makes it very hard to get to the next one (or is that just me?!)
Welcome coulda I hope you get on well with NoS Smile

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 22/11/2016 10:45

Welcome newbies!

Bestbees · 23/11/2016 06:47

Very true posie. Perhaps I will try to reduce wheat rather than carbs to see how that goes!

Bestbees · 23/11/2016 20:28

Interestingly yesterday I was starving at break time (teacher) and as I have a cold I ate a bit of my lunch, rice cakes and an apple. I then wasn't hungry for my lunch and starving before my swim! It really put the whole day out. Today even though hungry at break I had a cup of tea and felt fine. Then was able to go happily from lunch and eat post run. Just a reminder to myself that this structure works for me and that it is OK to be a bit hungry as it means I really enjoy the meal.

No wheat yet today. Fingers crossed it starts the weightloss again!

PosiePootlePerkins · 23/11/2016 21:58

Interesting bestbees how NoS really can open your eyes to your own appetite. Good for you, working out that snacking is not vital. When I first started NoS, I found it so strange not eating between meals, but now it seems normal, and I am OK feeling a bit hungry. Never thought I'd say that! I definitely agree that a cup of tea goes a long way between meals.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/11/2016 13:24

I lost 0.75 of a lb! Finally!!! I am so ridiculously happy that I did a little naked dance in front of the mirror and then marched through the house singing to fetch something from my bag, and I was bent over nekkid rootling in my handbag when DH called out "Um, darling, the electrician is sitting in his van right outside the window!" I grabbed the bag and ran but I am pretty sure the sparky saw me. Blush

I have achieved this by cutting back on portion sizes quite a bit for the last couple of days. I've moved down to a smaller sized dinner plate (luckily we have larger ones and smaller ones) and where I would normally have 3 sausages and a mound of mash, I had 2 sausages and a more restrained portion of mash. I posted on the No S forum and that's what they suggested, given that I'm short. It feels sustainable - it's a smaller meal but not tiny small.

PosiePootlePerkins · 24/11/2016 18:16

Yay cheddar! Lol at your naked dance! I had read your thread on the NoS forum not realising that was you, you got some good advice. I find it to be a really good place for support. Pleased it is working for you.

PosiePootlePerkins · 25/11/2016 15:51

Something very strange happened today....
At work we are having a Christmas meal at the local pub. We could choose starter and main, or main and dessert. I had already chosen main and dessert. Today I found myself saying to the lady who is booking the meal 'Please can you cross off my dessert and just order me a main.'
That is absolutely a first for me. I had thought I just needed to have that white chocolate cheesecake with raspberries, but actually on reflection I know that I can live without it, can happily have a coffee instead, and will most certainly feel better afterwards for sticking to NoS.
This diet is doing strange but good things to my mindset!

Bestbees · 25/11/2016 16:15

Good work posie! Sounds like a great change in mindset, no point having something unless it is worth it!

Congratulations cheddar, well worth a naked dance!

Down to 9.9 and 3/4 this morning which I am really pleased with. Off to visit brother this weekend so trying to remind myself about good habits so not to ruin the good work!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

PosiePootlePerkins · 25/11/2016 16:21

Thanks bestbees and well done on your weight. Good luck with the weekend! And have a good S weekend everyone.

PosiePootlePerkins · 27/11/2016 07:33

Yesterday was a really good S day for me. Went out to the zoo with the boys, then onto PILs for lunch. DH has been away for two weeks so have been on my own with the kids a lot and the PiL visit is more of a duty than a pleasure if I'm honest.
Anyway I went without a snack between breakfast and lunch, and had one plateful of food at lunch from all of the many things MIL provided bless her, and chose strawberries for dessert. Then one cereal bar at home, with a few crackers and cheese for tea.
Went to bed thinking, that was almost a NoS day and I did it without even thinking! Much better than last weekends excesses.
We'll see what happens today but I really do feel as if my mindset is slowly changing.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Bestbees · 27/11/2016 14:36

Well I have eaten a lot but no snacking and no sugar this weekend except for that found in booze! So I am hoping that weight won't be too badly effected. I do feel like it gets easier just to say no to snacks as it becomes habit.

Let all hope for successful week ahead with some nice losses on the scales!

PosiePootlePerkins · 28/11/2016 06:51

Another pound off. Feeling very relaxed and in controlSmile
Have a good week everyone.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 28/11/2016 12:05

My weekend was not very restrained. I have not yet got over the must-eat-chocolate-because-it's-Saturday mindset. Still, that's what weekends are for! After dinner was not very good yesterday - dinner itself was chips and cheese (bad), and then I ate 2 mince pies with cream because I knew I wouldn't be able to eat them during the week, and then I had chocolate for the same reason.

I will weigh in on Friday after a week of small meals. Hopefully things will have gone in a downwards direction!

mimiasovitch · 28/11/2016 14:32

Hello everyone. I got on my scales at 3 in the morning whilst the dog was outside (bad girl), and then spent the next few hours berating myself for gaining a stone in the last 8 months. I came onto the big/slim/whatever forums to see, well, something different. I know low carb is not for me, I get obsessed about calories if I try to cut back that way, I've been there done that with slimming world, but 5:2 did work for me, until my erratic working hours put paid to that. I always did think though, that the no snacking I introduced on 5:2 was a key factor in my losses. So, I found this thread, have read it all, have had a good look around the Everyday Systems site, and it all seems to make so much sense. No faddy diet, no cutting out pasta (the horror!), just eating normally with my family. I'm jumping straight in, even though I'm away this weekend from Friday to Monday for a few days of wine, crisps and bad Christmas movies with a girlfriend. If I delay I'll feel more out of control. Sorry for the essay, but hopefully I'll be able to join you in your losses soon. God knows I've enough I need to lose :(

PosiePootlePerkins · 28/11/2016 14:51

Welcome mimiasovitch I am so pleased you have found us! I think you are right to just go for it, I first found the diet on a Friday which was typical, but just went with it and am now 8 weeks in. Slow ish weight loss but so far I am delighted with the way it is changing my relationship with food.
Good luck!
Cheddar have you read any of oolala's posts on the NoS forum? I was reading that she (I think she's a she!!) took 2 years to get her weekends under control! Which gave me hope and perspective.

singme · 28/11/2016 20:53

Hi all!

I've been doing NoS for 2 weeks now. First week I worked long days and found it fairly easy just to have a lunch planned and then I didn't really stop again until dinner. I even did a Fast Day (500 cals) just to give myself a boost. I also worked the weekend so I did No-S on them to save the treats for my days off. Scales said 1kg off.
Second week I had 2 S days which were lovely, boozy lunch with a friend, cake but then on the way home I just got some fizzy water for the train when ordinarily I'd have got myself a treat! I then did 2 nights shifts and packed myself 2 healthy meals, but did have some sweets in the morning one day because my mouth felt horrid! Used my S days Friday and Saturday, Fri was Xmas party so more wine, but then hangover was quite restrained and I made a nice chilli.

Been making chilli, pulled chicken, slimming world beef pie etc so all filling dinners and no pudding. Last night I felt I really wanted pudding. So I mashed a banana into fat free Greek yoghurt, put some berries in and smashed a ferrero Roche on the top- but still technically broke the diet.

No weight loss for week 2- but had 4 S-days in that week because of shift pattern!

Really liking hearing your stories so hope mine helps!

PosiePootlePerkins · 29/11/2016 06:28

Hi singme and welcome. Shift work sounds difficult so well done for fitting NoS around your hours. Hope you find NoS continues the work for you.

PosiePootlePerkins · 29/11/2016 06:29

to work, not the work! Wish MN had an edit button!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/11/2016 11:44

Hello Mimi and Singme! Glad you found us - this diet is a lot saner than some of the others I've tried, but it is slooooow.

Posie, I have read a lot of Oolala's posts (she's definitely a woman) and they're really helpful! Everyone there seemed really nice. I might start a daily check in thread and witter away to myself.

No breakfast today Shock ! I usually eat at work but I had a meeting at a different site today, so I have just had tea. I shall have a slightly more substantial lunch than I otherwise would have done, but not a huge one. Dinner will be late because it's Parents' Evening tonight at the nursery - a cheese and wine night, get you! But I shall have no cheese and only a small glass of wine.

I've managed a fair bit of walking these last 2 days by parking my car at a car park 20 minutes away from work. So 40 minutes altogether yesterday, plus a trip to John Lewis to buy new foundation and powder and lipstick at lunchtime added another good 15 minute walk.

PosiePootlePerkins · 29/11/2016 14:58

Oh dear, emotional eating has reared its ugly head today. Feeling knackered and then had rubbish news, and just want to EAT. Haven't felt like this for a long time, have just had a chocolate rice krispie square, just because it was there. Recording this on here now in the hopes that I stop at one fail and don't escalate into a binge.
