I'm looking for a buddy to join me and help motivate to lose some of this flab! I'm 5'7" and about 12st but will weigh in tomorrow morning.

OP posts:
Pinkvici22 · 28/03/2016 09:17

Can I join please?

5'4 and weigh 10 st 1 lb. would like to get down to under 9 stone really.

I'm using MFP and doing 5:2. Going to try to exercise too.

dudsville · 28/03/2016 09:22

I might be just visiting here but wanted to say hello. I'm 5'7" and was 13 stone something. I've got down to 11 over the last year and ideally am going to lose another 7lbs. I like the curvy look on me at that weight, I lose my boobs by 10 stone! Then easter happened and I've eaten my weight in chocolate and hot cross buns on top of fattening meals. I don't want to weigh myself. I'm just hoping to get my mojo back this week! I do it by clean eating and being mindful of my decisions. This was after initial research into calorie content of my portion sizes etc. So for instance I don't eat when I'm not hungry but i don't starve myself when I am, if I have wine I'll eat fewer calories with dinner, etc. I also like the 5:2 but the daily version. I eat all my meals within an 8 hour window. It suits me. There's a clear run between now and Christmas so that should be plenty of time. I then want to start weighing frequently as a way of keeping it off (currently I only weigh in monthly).

NovaArt3mis · 28/03/2016 09:23

Think I might jump in here. My willpower is lacking without anyone to chat to.

Should we maybe try to have a 'template' style of stats. So they're easier on the eye at a glance? And just omit any details you don't fancy sharing.

Weigh in: XX
Lbs lost this week: XX (from next week)
Lbs lost overall: XX
Goal weight: (if you have one)
Age: XX
Height: XX
Motivation: (as serious or humourous as you like!)

Good idea, bad idea, bugger of Nova you're uninvited?

Hepzibar · 28/03/2016 09:36

That's looks great Nova - except for the first point. Honestly I really am scared to get in scales. I am reckoning 12st but would be devastated if they are more.

I am the heaviest (fattest) I have ever been in my life. Got wardrobes full of 12's and now having to buy 16's and some 18's to covers my chest

Glad OP started the thread - I needed a kick

NovaArt3mis · 28/03/2016 09:43

I remember the first time I weighed myself about a year before my wedding (3 years ago now) hepzibar and got the fright of my life.

There are lots of other ways to track progress other than weight. You can measure body parts, or even just notice changes in the mirror. Take a start picture (which I found scarier than a number on the scale). You can use a step counter to increase your activity or have a target amount of exercise a week. I think in the weight loss world they're referred to as 'non scale victories' or similar.

3littlebadgers · 28/03/2016 09:50

Ooh can I join in too please. I'm normally 8-10 dress size but I've gone up to a 14 after giving birth twice in the last year. The first was sadly a little girl who we lost and I have basically comfort eated my way through the second one. I now happily have a tiny boy but I don't know if it is the habit of eating more or the breastfeeding but my appetite has definitely increased and I'm not feeling confident in myself. I also feel quite inactive due to being sat down feeding the baby prettying most of the time, whereas before I was always on the go. Not feeling brave enough to get on the scales just yet but I'll update you all once I have Blush

HavingAnOffDAy · 28/03/2016 09:54

God I'm in!! 5'4 & a size 14/16. I'd like to lose weight for a wedding I'm going to in July.

anotherbusymum14 · 28/03/2016 10:18

Nova I like the template and would happily follow. Anyone else?

ThisToo · 28/03/2016 10:53

Morning everyone. I'm not feeling especially prepared to face up to my weight and sugar addiction issues, especially with the house full of Easter treats, but I can't find a single good reason to put it off any longer. So I dug out my scales and below are my current stats flowing Nova's example.

Ok, so weighed in this morning and I'm the biggest I've ever been. Feeling really positive at the moment about getting slimmer, fitter, healthier.

Breakfast this morning was one slice of seedy toast with peanut butter, a blood orange and a herbal tea. Am tracking what I eat in MFP. Also just started C25k and planning to do some yoga from YouTube.

Good luck today everyone :)

I've had two hard boiled eggs for breakfast and a glass of water. Just on my way to work and have spinach & ricotta cannelloni (leftovers!) for lunch. Making pad thai for dinner.

Me. I have three stone really, but I'll be more than happy with two as I don't seem to be able to maintain more than half a stone without putting back on within weeks at the moment. Sad I am 5.3 and 12 stone. I used to struggle to stay under 11, now i struggle to stay under 12. Hmm

I am sick of it. It is ruining my life. I am going through the menopause as well which is REALLY making things very tough. I am a low carb fan, so that is how I plan to diet,(I've had success with it before and have got to just below 10 stone which is still not great for my height but I looked and felt fab and would have been more than happy to stay at that weight) if only I can stick to it for more than a few days at a time I KNOW it will work and I will feel great again, it's just SO hard when my hormones and my mood swings are working against me.

I have made a very conscious decision to cut right back on the wine as well. Even though once I am in ketosis I can drink (to an extent) without it affecting my weight loss, it weakens my resolve with food and my sleep is so disturbed at the moment that it doesn't help at all to be drinking too much. Contrary to popular opinion it doesn't help you sleep, it does the opposite.

Today I've had a protein shake and a cheese omelette. I will make some low carb chicken and veg soup for supper and only herbal tea for me today.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 28/03/2016 11:57

Ooh can I join?

Weigh in: 9 stone 9
Lbs lost this week: 0
Lbs lost overall: 0
Goal weight: 8 St 5 ish
Age: 25
Height: 5'4"
Motivation: Holiday in July. Also my birthday in the same month. And I'd just like to not have a pudgy belly - I look much better without one!

I'm going to try low carbing, I think. I carry all my chub on my stomach so I think low carbing is supposed to help with that? I'm also trying to walk for an hour a day, and doing an exercise class every other day.

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 28/03/2016 11:58

Weigh in: 12 0lbs
Lbs lost this week: 0
Lbs lost overall: 0
Goal weight: 9st 7lbs
Age: 51
Height: 5'3"
Motivation:

  1. Not to be a fat miserable middle aged woman who can't bear to see a photo of herself because she's so bitter and disappointed about how she looks.

  2. Not to be immobile and unhealthy in older age, with a higher risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

  3. An event over the summer where I will see lots of friends and family who last saw me at least 2 stone slimmer, and the feelings of doom and depression and panic I get when I think about that. Sad

TippyTappyLappyToppy · 28/03/2016 12:00

I am a natural hourglass shape and even in my worst overweight phases I've always maintained a good shape - until now. The dreaded menopause has suddenly turned me into a rotund, shapeless barrel in a matter of months. It's so fucking depressing.

ExpandingRoundTheMiddle · 28/03/2016 12:17

I hear you Tippy It's crap isn't it. I've found yoga brilliant for giving me back my waist but I can't shed the lard from my legs Sad. Good luck to everyone starting today. I'll be joining in tomorrow.

ThisToo · 28/03/2016 12:26

Good luck everyone and if anyone has any tips to help me break my serious sugar habit I'd love to hear them Smile

LaPharisienne · 28/03/2016 12:36

Weigh in: 13'9
Lbs lost this week: 0
Lbs lost overall: 0
Goal weight: 10'9
Age: 32
Height: 5'11
Motivation: to stop the crazy weight gain I've had so far this pregnancy and then to lose weight afterwards so I stop looking like a blimp!

I don't want to know how I've managed to pile on 3 stone in 6 months... But it has to stop and then reverse!!!!

Weigh in: 10st3.5lbs

Motivation: I hate the way I look.

NovaArt3mis · 28/03/2016 12:41

ThisToo I'm a sugar fiend too. My previous weight loss successes were helped by learning to say 'no'.

Particularly in the office. There's snacks everywhere here and I automatically just shove them in my mouth but I need to remember to take a second to think about whether I want a biscuit/cake/sweetie and politely decline because I'm not hungry and I don't need them.

Heathcliff27 · 28/03/2016 12:44

Looly71 · 28/03/2016 12:46

I hear you tippytappy. You've summed up exactly how I feel

ThisToo · 28/03/2016 13:01

Hi Nova do you get that intense craving for something sweet after a meal even when you know you feel full? Do I have to cut sugar completely to be free of the cravings? My Dad is a type 2 diabetic and I really don't want to end up in the same boat a few years from now.

NovaArt3mis · 28/03/2016 13:13

ThisToo it's taken a while but I no longer feel I absolutely must have something after dinner. I try to wait 30-45 mins and if I still want something I try to choose something like fruit/yoghurt. (I don't buy crisps, sweets etc, so there's no temptation but I don't have children so that's easier)

Personally, I see results when I completely cut out sugary snacks. But some people are way more successful with an 'everything in moderation' approach.

I'm not sure the best way to find out what suits you more though.
