Anyone else nearing goal and struggling a bit?

I've lost over 30 pounds since Feb, eating carefully and exercising more. I'm just within my healthy bmi but want to lose another 9 pounds or so to sit comfortably in the healthy range.

Obviously the weight's coming off more slowly now and that's fine but I am struggling to keep at it. I'm so close but yet so far!

Anyone in a similar situation?

I have lost 7 stone by eating 1350-1400 cals daily.
I printed off 2yrs supply of meal planners and write one out every saturday for the following week, (old school!)
I stick to the plan 100% on a daily basis, if theres a celebration, birthdays, christmas etc i write on the plan day off and i eat what i want, no trying to add up calories etc, a proper day off.
I also weigh myself every few weeks, not weekly as i know i will have lost weight as i follow my plan and try to concentrate on eating well rather than a number on the scales.

ItsaTenfromDen · 07/08/2015 08:55

current weight 9st 13lb (weigh day today will see what happens later)

everyone's done so well, not much to go! Grin
because I'm ebf I'm trying to adopt just a really healthy, sensible lifestyle.

basically these are what I try to do:

  • eat slowly
  • no squash / juice
  • snack on fruit
  • try peppermint tea / redbush / anything other than tea/coffee if I feel the need to have a sweet treat as I associate chocolate with coffee!
  • eat real food. no low fat etc
  • catch my "eating phase" - basically the time when you naturally put your knife and fork down for a break is when I try to stop eating as I'm probably full
  • fist of carbs on place (ie carbs should be the size of my fist, no more)
  • fist of veg
  • no seconds!
  • no pudding, except fruit
  • big, healthy breakfast
  • walk with baby
  • swimming (not done yet!)
  • drink lots of water
  • use a slightly smaller plate

and that's it! just trying to be sensible and not greedy! love the idea of just a day off though, as I record a food diary so a day off wouldn't make me feel guilty for just one day of eating treats - I'll definitely adopt that for the odd special occasion

the food diary really helps me - I want it to look really healthy so I think I won't eat that chocolate bar as I wouldn't want to have to write it down!

also in my food diary I've decided to set myself a goal - to eat my 5 a day everyday. it's really motivated me to eat more healthily, eg after dinner I fancied a treat but had only had 4 out of my 5 a day so I had some fruit and felt really proud of my achievement, it also makes me think of ways to include fruit and every in every meal, so instantly healthier Smile I highlight my fruit and veg in green so that I can marvel at how good I've been Smile soon I'll highlight and stuff in red, but that'll be once I've cracked my current goal

I figure that if I live by these statements then I'll be healthy and the weight should naturally come off, rather than calorie counting or stressing.

what does everyone else do??

chumbler · 07/08/2015 17:23

meant to say - highlight BAD stuff in red

LetMeDriveTheBus · 07/08/2015 19:26

Really interesting to read what has worked for other people.

For me, I think it's especially important to makes sustainable changes. No extremes which I can't stick to long term.

I've been tracking my food on MFP. Basically calorie counting. I've tracked pretty much everyday since Feb! Even if I've had a wobble and eaten loads, I usually still track it because it's very interesting. Sometimes I'm surprised to see I haven't gone over as much as I thought would have. Sometimes I'm shocked by how much various bits of eating add up! There will obviously come a time when I don't track hopefully! when I'm well into maintaining at goal.

Also, if I eat more at one meal, I'll eat less at the next. It sounds so pathetic but I'd often use one episode of over-eating to keep indulging.

I generally don't snack. I find it makes me hungrier so I just try to eat a bit more at meal times. I've found sugary stuff like chocolate or cakes ignites all my cravings so I try to eat that sort of thing at a meal time. That helps loads.

I still feel I'm learning lots about myself and my eating habits. I'm not anxious about feeling hungry now. A cup of tea staves off a rumbling tummy on most occasions.

Can I join you? I was the heaviest I had ever been at Christmas 13 stone 1 on a small 5 foot 3 (and 3/4) inch frame. I started a low carb diet in January and am now 9 stone 11. I would like to be 9 stone but have been stuck at this weight for over a month now.
I work as a TBA and my 4 kids keep me so busy during term time so since the the end of term I have started a fitness regime (exercise is not my friend!!) I seem to lose a pound gain a pound. But generally stay the same.
Starting to feel really demotivated now. As doing all this extra time hard work for seemingly no return :-(

therenter · 07/08/2015 20:27

That should have been a t.a (phone changed it)

LetMeDriveTheBus · 07/08/2015 21:25

You are very welcome to join our struggles therenter. You've done so well! It's so hard to keep motivated when nothing really seems to be changing.....or not as quickly as we'dlike.

Weigh in this morning for me and 2 pounds off! Very surprised but obviously pleased. 10 stone 2.5 pounds is within touching distance of the 9s. I'd love to be 9 stone something!

Got a wedding to go to today and then a nice hungover lunch out with a friend tomorrow. So it's going to be a bit of a indulgant weekend.

Me me me!

I've lost 1.5 stone over the past 14 months or so, just eating better really, interspersed with Slimming World (I do this from home without group/online support). I want to lose around another 7-10lbs. 2 weeks ago I lost 5.5lbs in a week, last week I was a little off plan (DS2's birthday, off work etc) but not majorly and managed to gain 3.5lbs. This week I've been on plan all week, keeping a food diary, really focused & I've lost 1lb. It's so frustrating!

It doesn't help that my DH needs to lose 5stone and has no willpower at all, so I feel like I'm going to be dieting forever?

Frustrating!

BellaOfTheBalls · 08/08/2015 08:10

P.S you're all MUCH lighter than me....

Start weight: 13st 6lbs
Current weight: 11st 11lbs
Target weight : 11st 3lbs (healthy BMI)

LetMeDriveTheBus · 08/08/2015 14:59

I think you're probably a bit taller than me Bella Grin

OP posts:
chumbler · 08/08/2015 15:34

well done Bella Smile

having a very indulgent weekend too! I think the idea of having a "day off" has backfired for me as I really have eaten so much bad food!!! hard to stop once you start. letmedrivethebus - what's mfp??

do you guys think slimming world is worth it or shall I just keep trying to do my rules? tbh i have only been at it a week properly, just feel spurred on by how quickly most of the baby weight came off (even if it was mainly baby!!)

LetMeDriveTheBus · 08/08/2015 18:50

I don't have any experience of slimming world but I think your "rules" sound really sensible.

MFP is a website/app called My Fitness Pal where you can track calories and exercise. I've found it really useful.

OP posts:
chumbler · 09/08/2015 09:44

thanks Smile

dh not keen on me doing slimming world as he thinks he'll go hungry! also he pointed out that we eat really healthily anyway, it's only when I'm home alone in the day that I eat loads and/or eat badly! so I've made myself a big list of healthily lunches to pick from and I'll meal plan those, wish me luck!!

Twinklestar2 · 10/08/2015 07:54

I lost half a pound Smile

flanjabelle · 10/08/2015 09:21

Right, I ballsed up the weekend due to a naughty night away with dp. Far too much food and alcohol. I darent weigh in as I might cry. I had a bloody good time though.

Sensible breakfast this morning. 2 boiled eggs, a babybel and some grapes. Good start.

Well done to the losers, I'm jealous!

chumbler · 10/08/2015 10:14

mrswhiskers · 10/08/2015 14:27

Can I join? i lost 18 pounds between January and April this year. I was at my goal weight then managed to put on a stone in 10 days on holiday Blush I've lost 4 pounds in 4 weeks but I'm really struggling.

The weight is coming off more slowly this time round.
I would be happy to lose 3 more pounds to go down to 9 stone 7. I have no idea why it's so bloody hard!

chumbler · 10/08/2015 16:25

Hi Mrswhiskers, 4lb in 4 weeks is amazing Smile maybe losing the weight more slowly is key to keeping it off too, as it's "real" weight, not water or anything else, that's what I think anyway Smile

chumbler · 10/08/2015 16:25

just think, keep that up and in 3 weeks you'll be there!!

ItsaTenfromDen · 10/08/2015 20:40

well I went to weigh in on Friday and lost 2.5lb are reached goal :0 You could have knocked me down with a feather lol

Next goal is two pounds, that'll take me to the 3 stone lost mark

Well done everyone, and good luck for this week

chumbler · 11/08/2015 01:36

yay! well done!!!

LetMeDriveTheBus · 11/08/2015 19:06

I have lost a lb! Down to 9 stone 12 now.

Not logging my food and trying to eat carefully to prepare myself for maintenance is going well, even with the naughty weekend. Feeling a bit better about it all today.

Keep it up everyone!
