Hello Smile
I've recently lost over 30lbs but I still need to lose another 30ish. Anyone want to join in for some support/motivation? I'm thinking weekly Monday morning weigh ins starting tomorrow (Not compulsory).
I'm going to do healthy food at about 1000-1200 calls a day. I may also add in some fast days too.
All diet types and weights welcome Smile

lorelie I do this recipe in the bottom oven of the AGA which is like a slow cooker and it is always tender and uses a lean cut. I cook it for about 6 hours.

lorelei9 · 01/11/2015 21:16

thank you Rooster, I will try that.

It was tender, it was just.....I dunno. Something about the texture didn't seem as good as if it had been in the oven.

I didn't have any carbs with it though, as it seemed quite comforting and hearty without them, so maybe I can try carb free dinners again. I def feel I need to do something to step up my weight loss so maybe that's it.

RoosterCogburn · 01/11/2015 22:22

I can't do carb free Smile so I'm just sticking with calorie counting.

I've had a bad couple of weeks due to social events and half term, however compared to the way I was eating pre- seeing the light it hasn't been bad at all.

Back to work tomorrow, so back on the straight and narrow. Porridge for breakfast, a smoothie for lunch and then I have planned/made all meals for the week so I won't be tempted to deviate.

lorelei9 · 01/11/2015 22:26

sounds like a good plan Rooster. I'm sure it will be no change tomorrow (it was no change this morning).

I must remember to measure my waist at some point this week because I'm still convinced that's shrinking while the scales aren't changing much.

MamaLizard · 02/11/2015 00:37

Hi lorelei
Sorry that the scales aren't shifting. I'm pretty sure last week was a fluke and the other thing with the calorie counting is I'm starving and obsessed! I think it's because weekend willpower is hard with the whole family around all day wanting feeding!

I'm trying to make up for falling off the wagon last night - cArbs, booze and dairy! And at least 300 Cals over target. We've been for a walk at least today and I'm snacking on cucumber and raspberries and tea! And doing housework to keep hands busy! House is looking quite good for once actually - by-product of the dieting!

MamaLizard · 02/11/2015 00:49

Waist measurement a good idea... Muscle weighs more than fat so it could be more accurate indicator :)

Also I'm not trying totally carb-free as I definitely would fail, just the dinners... Which has not been nearly so difficult as I feared- a big bowl of lean beef chilli with a sprinkling of cheese and a big salad, for example. I didn't miss the rice at all. I definitely feel less heavy and bloated in the mornings but am not hungry going to bed.

I am trying to be mostly bread free, opting for healthier carbs like oats, brown rice, quinoa for my carb fix.

This week I thought i might try and mix in some 5:2 principles, but I'm fairly sure there is no way I'll survive on 500 calories a day without killing someone, so I'll let you know how that goes!!Confused

educatingarti · 02/11/2015 09:32

So, starting record again from last week.
Week 1 157lb
Week 2 (today) 156.5lb

At least it is in the right direction!

RoosterCogburn · 02/11/2015 17:39

Well done arti

Mama there's no way I could survive on 500 calories a day - I'd be so cranky and I'd probably end up with a headache.

About 1.5lb loss for me taking it to a total loss of 16.4lb.

Starting weight 172.8lb
Week One 167.2lb
Week Two 166.2lb
Week Three 165.2lb
Week Four 164.8lb
Week Five 163.4lb
Week Six 163.8lb
Week Seven 162.2lb
Week Eight 162lb
Week Nine 161lb
Week Ten 160lb
Week Eleven 158.8lb
Week twelve 158.8lb
Week Thriteen 160lb
Week Fourteen 158lb
Week Fifteen 156.4lb

lorelei9 · 02/11/2015 18:41

I gained a pound

Actually I am not too worried as it could well be water but I do need to cut back more I think

I just think if so many people lose a couple of pounds a week, there must be a way I can do it.

mintoil · 02/11/2015 19:56

Please may I join you? I am also a teacher and have found the stress of the job has made me pile on the pounds over the past couple of years.

My main problem is alcohol, a couple of glasses a night, but as soon as I have a drink, I feel like crisps/biscuits etc. So quite often I eat well all day, and then ruin it all in front of the tv Sad

Also, I am temporarily unable to exercise due to a hip problem, which should be resolved by the New Year with any luck.

I have been dieting since half term and lost 4lbs in the first week. I know from experience that the first week I always seem to lose a bit more and then it slows down. I would like to lose 2 stone overall which would make me a size 10/12 - I currently weigh 12 st 2lbs which is more than I weighed full term pregnant Blush

So I am sipping Schloer light and trying not to overdo the carbs.

MamaLizard · 02/11/2015 19:57

Well done, rooster! I can see I'm just at the start of this journey! And love your positive attitude lorelei :) you can do it, I'm sure.

I think I sent my whole body into shock last week so drastic was the overhaul to my diet (my portion sizes were ludicrous and I would easily eat four meals a day by hoovering up the kids' leftovers at 5 before hubby home at 7.30 for a proper big meal!)

This week it is highly likely I'll plateau as I've already skipped an exercise class, but at least I'll be a bit healthierSmile

lorelei9 · 02/11/2015 20:18

Mintoil, welcome along! I hope your hip is better soon.

Mama, you may do better than you think, I exercise regularly and it didn't stop me gaining! I do it for my brain though, I sort of need to work out or I get too stressed.

RoosterCogburn · 02/11/2015 20:23

Welcome mintoil, I was doing the eat well, then ruin it in the evening thing as well.
Even now, when I'm quite focussed on losing the weight I have to make a conscious effort not to graze in the evenings. If I really need something I make a small pan of popped corn and add paprika and salt.

You're all making me feel guilty with your talk of exercise because apart from walking the dogs and gardening I don't do any.

lorelei9 · 02/11/2015 20:34

But Rooster, walking the dogs and gardening probably is a lot of exercise. All I would do is walk ten mins to station if I had no formal exercise, gardening is very hard work. I dont have a garden and the flat is small, so no way I get enough exercise through daily life but you do.

RoosterCogburn · 02/11/2015 20:39

You're probably right Lorelei, but I think because I have never been to a gym and am really not an exercise class type of person I always feel a bit inadequate when people are exercising!

mintoil · 02/11/2015 20:52

I agree re the gardening and dog walking. When I had my dog I lost loads of weight walking him.

I also listen to the Paul McKenna Think Yourself Thin CD about twice a week.I just don't have time to do it more often, but it does help me with portion control I think.

A friend swears she has lost weight by drinking warm water with a slice of lemon on waking, but I am afraid I really, really need my tea!!

RoosterCogburn · 02/11/2015 21:11

I need tea before I can function, and then during the day I need tea and more tea! At least I've managed to remove the tea and biscuit habit that had crept in over the years!
In work today there were biscuits and cakes and I managed to resist.

MamaLizard · 02/11/2015 21:32

Hi mintoil
Sorry I didn't see your post before but you sound just like me! As soon as the alcohol starts, I forget I'm supposed to be eating healthily!

I also used to teach so I know it is an extremely stressful job. I used to eat so much cake and drink so much coffee just to get through the day and always half a bottle of wine at night. Writing all this makes me really want coffee cake and wine now!! Wink

educatingarti · 03/11/2015 14:32

Well done Rooster and welcome Mintoil! Three days of careful eating here- getting back to a routine after half-term. Really hopeful I can keep up the careful eating for the rest of the week and show a loss for next Monday.

I struggle with exercise too (have fibromyalgia) but having realised over the summer just how unfit I am trying to make some small changes. I already do some gardening most Fridays looking after the church grounds and walk to church quite a few Sundays (only half a mile though). So now on Tuesdays, I try and walk to Aldi to do the food shop treating myself to lunch in a cafe en route. It's not much, a round trip of about 1.5 miles, but harder on the way back with a full shopping trolley. At least it is something!

RoosterCogburn · 03/11/2015 22:29

Every little helps arti.
Last year I was waiting for an operation and couldn't do any exercise, some days I could barely walk. This year I'm much more active and I'm convinced it is helping with the weight loss.

I have to admit during term time it's easy for me to let DH do all the dog walking (especially if its raining) and I have to force myself to go out.
Tonight I was late home and DH had lit the fire, so I sat by the fire while he took the dogs out in the rain Blush

Today has been one of those days, Ive been hungry all day
I noticed it yesterday too
This will sound nuts but I've just started on a much higher dose of vitamin d and wondering if it's increasing my appetite!! I am on it due to having really bad SAD and did feel better the last few days so a pity if I have to cut back again

I was seconds away from getting sausage and chips on the way home, the shop is right by the station and I thought, ooh I'm hungry enough...but then I realised I had leftovers and I hate chucking food out so I have just had chicken and veg. But honestly, I'm wondering what has set this increased hunger off. Weird.

MamaLizard · 06/11/2015 06:25

Hey lorelei
That is weird... I've been extra hungry too and I take vitamin D3 (they prescribe it here quite regularly due to the Seattle weather!)... I wonder if there is a link? I also think it's when I'm not quite busy enough so obsessing about my next meal; it's easier to forget about hunger pangs when I'm rushing around!

Despite being really good all week I think when I weigh tomorrow I'll be less than 1lb down; but that's better than nothing, I guess.

Good on you for skipping the sausage and chips; I feel like I'm only days (hours, minutes?) away from a massive binge myself! I want cheeseburgers and trifle!

lorelei9 · 06/11/2015 10:39

Mama - it's weird, isn't it?

I'm more likely to eat when too busy.

I'm actually out for dinner tonight but it's the only meal out for a couple of weeks so not horrific.

StopLaughingDrRoss · 06/11/2015 11:55

I maintained this week so got to be happy I guess:

Week 3: 189lbs.

I've also been feeling the hunger and wonder if it's the weather for me! Really miserable here Sad I've also not really exercised this last week and that's key for me - eating well just doesn't do it (and I don't eat well that often - Saturday all I ate was cake! Friends 40th birthday tea with sooo much cake!)

I must get out the slow cooker.. have you tried anything else, Lorelei? I see lots of recipes but have never embraced mine really!
