Hello Smile
I've recently lost over 30lbs but I still need to lose another 30ish. Anyone want to join in for some support/motivation? I'm thinking weekly Monday morning weigh ins starting tomorrow (Not compulsory).
I'm going to do healthy food at about 1000-1200 calls a day. I may also add in some fast days too.
All diet types and weights welcome Smile

Well done!

educatingarti · 27/10/2015 08:51

147lb so up 3lb from my lowest :( It was my birthday weekend though and I did eat a lot of cake! Feeling low about it all though!

StopLaughingDrRoss · 27/10/2015 09:08

Morning all! Sorry to have been awol for a while - combination of the clocks and half term has meant no time to think!

Excellent loss Rooster and even better news about having some pennies to buy some new clothes. It makes such a difference... I have my work Xmas do end of November and ambitiously bought a dress in a size I haven't worn comfortably since before DS (who is 4 at new year)... and it fits - such a boost. Congrats too Lorelei on your trousers.. here's to us all rediscovering lots of lovely clothes we already have!

I wouldn't worry too much Arti as you know why you went up rather than down.. I think it's more upsetting when you try super hard and nothing happens. I've also found you might shift those 3lbs easier this week because you are more motivated if that makes sense. I've been up a few times since I started but never more than one week on the trot even if I didn't lose the whole increase.

I have a very boozy day today as meeting up with an old friend who I haven't seen in aaaages mid afternoon - and there is copious amounts if Toffee Apple Cider on the cards. Am hoping he'll notice I've got smaller but on ye down side, am totally aware this will probably wreck my chances of a loss this week!

Hope everyone else is having a lovely half term!

lorelei9 · 27/10/2015 10:19

Arti, don't worry and I hope you enjoyed your birthday.

DrRoss - I know the feeling, I'm going to a cocktail thing tonight and I'm terrible at saving calories. It also seems a shame to ask for vodka and diet lemonade when the point of the thing is nice cocktails.....

I wish I was better at saving calories but I just find it so hard.

RoosterCogburn · 27/10/2015 15:55

Great news on the dress DrRoss and you've still got a few weeks to go - you might end up needing a smaller size!

A belated happy birthday to Arti - you have to celebrate your birthday so putting on a couple of pounds is to be expected.

Lorelei I never eat the diet version of anything (I'm not convinced it's that good for you) - if I'm going to enjoy myself I do it properly! Enjoy your cocktails.

I'm trying to be organised and I plan to do lots of cooking at the end of the week and fill the freezer with meals that can be defrosted and heated easily. I find when I am back in work (teacher) it can be really hard to eat sensibly unless I have planned in advance.

lorelei9 · 27/10/2015 17:02

My night out got cancelled

probably just as well as I'm really tired and I've eaten 1100 cals already so lord knows what cocktails + food to soak it up would come in at....

you can tell it's winter, I'm relieved to have a night out cancelled.

it is harder to count calories in winter I find as well, silly but true for me.

Thinking to have a protein bar for breakfast tomorrow morning. Bit of an experiment, trying to see if it helps me lose more. I am still grumpy as I know so many people for whom a stone in 6 weeks is the norm and I have a winter holiday, I was hoping to be at least a stone down by now, and much more by then!

lorelei9 · 27/10/2015 17:06

PS Rooster, I don't think artificial sweetener is great for you either but if I had been out tonight, it seemed like the only way to keep cals down!

RoosterCogburn · 27/10/2015 17:08

There's no way I could easily lose a stone in 6 weeks - it's taken me 14 weeks. Admittedly I havent been evangelical about everything I've eaten but I have been under my calorie goal most days.

I'm working on the premise that if it comes of slowly I'm more likely to keep the weight off (I don't know if this is true or not)

TombStoneTessie · 27/10/2015 18:16

Well done Rooster Flowers
I have weigh in tonight so fingers crossed. I have just been invited to an interview next week but none of my smart business clothes fit any more Smile I will have to get shopping.

RoosterCogburn · 27/10/2015 19:33

Good luck with the interview Tessie - I like the Hallowe'en name change.

TombStoneTessie · 28/10/2015 05:34

Thanks. 3lb off this week so I'm very happy with that Smile

RoosterCogburn · 28/10/2015 11:40

Well done, 3lb is brilliant

HelloPossums · 28/10/2015 16:01

Hello! Can I join please?
Currently on the Dukan diet - on day 4 of Attack phase at the moment. Lost 2.5 pounds in the first two days but weighed myself this morning and saw I'm now back annoyingly to my starting weight(!) Angry

Any tips from anyone at all please? Would be grateful if anyone's been on the Dukan diet or similar before? Smile

lorelei9 · 28/10/2015 19:21

Tessie, autocorrect tried to make you "yessir"! I guess that's for "yes sir, Tessie lost a brilliant 3lb". Well done.

HelloPossum, welcome along! I don't know anything but Dukan but I know water can account for fluctuations with me.

lorelei9 · 28/10/2015 19:22

*about not but!

lorelei9 · 28/10/2015 22:12

Thinking to buy a slow cooker
Looking at recipes, seems I can make a nice comforting winter dinner that comes in c400 cals
Anyone got one?

RoosterCogburn · 28/10/2015 22:23

Welcome Possum.

Lorelei, I don't have a slow cooker but have an AGA where you can use the bottom oven like a slow cooker.
We use it loads in the winter to make stews/soups/casseroles. I also slow cook things like Bolognese and the meat bit of a shepherds pie.

The best bit is coming home to a meal that is ready

StopLaughingDrRoss · 29/10/2015 21:58

Well done Tessie - 3lbs is fab! I weighed in today and just a pound, but happy with that to be honest:

Week 1: 190lbs
Week 2: 189lbs

I love the sound of slow cookers and have one somewhere but I never use it.. must see if I can find it. Love the sound of your Aga Rooster - they just sound so welcoming..

MamaLizard · 30/10/2015 22:51

Hi again
Just thought I'd share that I'm 4lbs down this week! And it's been inspiration on this thread and others that's kickstarted the weight loss. So thanks all :)

In case it helps others, The things I've done this week are:

  • Cut right back on booze. I think I'd totally lost control on how much I was drinking. Easily 2 glasses of vino most nights. I've not been teetotal so not feeling deprived, but just two drinks all week.
  • used mfp to make me more mindful of my eating habits and track 1300 calories a day.
  • eating 'clean' whole foods
  • swapped coffee for green tea to stoke my sluggish metabolism
  • cut out most dairy
  • cut out most bread
  • eaten carb free dinners, a little earlier than usual.
  • 2 barre classes and one Pilates class. I won't be able to do that every week but had an extra childcare hour so...
  • I also had a green smoothie as a meal replacement on one day.

At first it was a shock how easily the calories piled up using mfp to count, But after a day or two it has become relatively easy to adapt and moderate my eating so I'm filling up on lots of salad, veggies and lean protein.

Hope I can maintain it but feels almost possible now SmileI feel somehow lighter and taller and my tummy looks (a bit) flatter. Quite a way to go still, 16-18lbs, but an encouraging start!!

MamaLizard · 30/10/2015 22:55

Also totally love my slow cooker! It's great for fat-free soups and stews and I can just leave it to get on with it. The brand is aroma and I got it at Costco. It's a rice cooker and steamer all in one, too.

RoosterCogburn · 31/10/2015 16:06

Well done Mama, that's a great loss

I know what you mean about the calories piling up. I was eating a lot of high calorie low value foods. Also the calories were totting up with a few glasses of wine here and there.

I'm back to work on Monday so I've been cooking today to try and make sure that all my meals are planned and mostly prepped.

MamaLizard · 31/10/2015 16:28

Thank you! I'm sure not all weeks will be the same but it's an encouraging start.

Good luck going back to work :) as you say, I think planning and preparation are also key to success. I do have to think about stuff now. No more mindless grazing and grabbing the nearest, most convenient thing.

lorelei9 · 31/10/2015 20:09

I want to lose 3lb in a week! How are you doing it?
I have a feeling this week will be another no loss or half pound for me.

lorelei9 · 31/10/2015 20:12

Sorry Mama, I just scrolled back and saw your list
I tried carb free dinners before joining thus thread but it didn't go well, so I decdide to use my calories as I felt I needed them. I also found it really hard to work out in the morning because I woke up ravenous. That said, the week or two I stuck with it, I lost no weight, so not good for me.

lorelei9 · 01/11/2015 19:10

I got a slow cooker, just cooked some beef stew

was disappointed - sauce (for want of a better word) fabulous but the meat, not so much. had a google and it seems beef in the slow cooker is better with lots of fat in the cut?

which is kind of not the idea in terms of dieting...!
