Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

Honestly, leave the potty training until they are ready!! I know some people train earlier than this (there was a mum at toddler group who was trying to potty train at 18 months!!) but from what I have seen the earlier you do it, the more accidents they have. After one week of training DD has had no pee accidents (we're still working on the poo, but she does seem to have some constipation issues at the mo!) because she totally gets it. Your DS might get it now, so no harm in trying. We have tried a few times with DD in the past when there were some signs she was ready (not wanting nappy on etc) but we only tried for a day each time as we soon discovered that she wasn't ready and had no bladder control.
She's not dry at night yet marking but won't be too long. She called me upstairs last night to take her pj's and nappy off as she wanted to do a last pee before going to sleep, and the first thing she asked me this morning was to take her nappy off. If we can get her to continue with the pee just before settling down, and gradually reduce night time milk, I hope to have her out of bedtime nappies by her birthday.

Good Luck for tomorrow taketwo - fingers crossed all goes well!!!

Don't worry too much about your weight marking. Eat what you can stomach for now - you and baby need calories, and get straight back to 3 healthy meals a day when the sickness has gone away.
One suggestion I have read to help minimise pregnancy weight gain, is to monitor your thigh measurement instead of weighing yourself throughout pregnancy. Any increase in weight will include the extra water, blood volume etc, but these two don't generally increase inches everywhere. Whereas an increase in inches on your thighs indicates that you are laying fat down......
www.netdoctor.co.uk/ate/pregnancyandchildbirth/204758.html

I plan to take all my measurements once a month until I fall pregnant, and my thigh measurements once a week from now, and throughout pregnancy. Should be a more accurate indicator of fat loss than weighing myself at the moment, what with fluctating hormones making you retain water, and my strange stomach that keeps bloating up!

Had DH's cousin and her 6 month old son over yesterday for a BBQ. Lovely day, especially as DD really loves the baby. She's so cute with him. Was laying under the baby gym with him, training to give him her duplo train. Though she did tell him to shut up when he started crying........

Scan all okay Smile got to wait a couple of weeks for blood results but relieved that everything seemed fine so far.

Yes, I am thinking I might leave Potty Training till next Spring/Summer. DS will be nearly 3 by then, but Bean should be 4-6 Months which will be a bit more bearable! He has started letting us know when He is wet which is lovely at 2am! But I think that's as far as it goes atm. No more accidents I hope with your DD ColdFeet? Aww She sounds like She is really taking to it well!!
I know, I just feel guilty. I am still 3 Stone heavier than when I first fell Preggers, and if I put on another 5 Stone (!!) I won't be able to move! I do feel as though I am a bit more active this time round, having a Toddler and all that! Thanks for the Link ColdFeet I will have a look at that later. I did loose a lot of weight naturally first time round, but then I put it back on by eating I don't think I coped with it all very well So fingers crossed the same will happen this time, but I will do my best to keep it off!! How is the TTC going? Very cute about the 6 Month Old - I have told my DS once or twice to shut up in the early Days - Totally normal lol Grin
Yay TakesTwo So glad to hear that! What are the Blood Results for? It must be a weight off your mind Grin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 08/05/2015 14:34

That might not be a bad time to do it marking - I'd suggest trying to get DS potty trained before little one starts crawling though! lol I have heard some stories at toddler group! lol
No more accidents from DD, though last night she did the second night time poo in a week! Hasn't been pooing in her sleep since she was a few months old. She woke up about 10pm last night crying her eyes out, she was really upset.
Going shopping tomorrow afternoon with DD, and my mum and sister. Will see how she copes being out at shops for a couple of hours. Especially as there aren't many toilets at the local shops. Always used to pop into McDonalds or burger king to use thier toilets and change her bum, but if I take her in there she will be asking for chicken nuggets! lol Oh well, we'll work it out between us!

I know what you mean marking. I still 2st 4lb heavier than when I fell pregnant with DD. I don't think you'll put on another 5 stone!! I think you'll end up being quite mindful of what you eat this time round. And like you said, having a toddler will make you more active this time. I barely moved when I was pregnant with DD. I was working 9-6, and too tired to do anything before or after work. I could quite happily walk round the shops on a Saturday etc, but nothing excessive. This time round I'll constantly be up and down doing stuff with DD rather than at a desk all day, and laying on sofa all evening.

Have been off the pill 3 weeks today. No sign of AF yet. I would be very surprised if I got it next week, but will place some always in my work bag ready anyway! lol Not physically ttc as much as I'd like, but that's down to us working opposite shifts and not really seeing each other!! And that's not going to change any time soon unless we win the lottery so that I can give up work / really cut down on hours / afford childcare so that I can work a day shift. Oh well, I'm sure we'll manage Smile
Off to finish making cakes with DD before I leave for work Cake

I'm now down to 11lbs above my previous pre-pg weight (from 2 stone at the beginning of the year). Less than a stone feels like a bit of a milestone. I'm really hoping I can just eat and exercise really carefully in this pg and gradually not put weight on as baby grows. It would be so good to come out the other side weighing less than when I started, even if that means I still have a bit to lose to get back to my 'normal' weight (if I can still call it that). That is my target. You ladies are my witnesses!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 10/05/2015 01:29

Oh well done takestwo, a loss of 17lbs since the beginning of the year!! I have only lost 6! haha
I would definitely say its a bit of a milestone!! Smile

I have had some "period" pain last week or so - in lower back, and can kind of feel that ovaries are swollen and tender (had to move DH's arm last night as we were falling asleep) but no AF yet. Have never been so happy to get back pain though - YAY I can feel my body working after 2.5yrs of feeling numb!!! whoop whoop!!

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 10/05/2015 02:34

Ooh cold that's great that everything is getting into gear! How are you feeling emotionally with it? You sounds as if you are coping better than you feared at the moment?

Thank you for the boost Grin Yes I guess that does mean 17lbs lost - I hadn't really looked at it that way as i'd been focusing on what was still to go, but I feel quite chuffed with that number. Must try to use it to inspire me to keep eating healthily. Have felt so wiped out the last couple of weeks that exercise has totally gone out of the window so I must try to get back to doing some walking. Maybe tomorrow... Wink

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 12/05/2015 00:13

Coping wonderfully at the moment, thanks takestwo. Had one teary 24hrs just over a week ago (but that might have happened anyway, that was a "my little girls growing up" moment) but no major mood swings, wanting to scream my head off etc yet lol.
Only issues I have had so far is that my IBS (or whatever it is) seems to have flared up since I stopped taking the pill. That's up and down though, and not the worst its ever been...completely manageable.
On the whole I am just so excited!! Finding it very hard not to tell everyone I want another baby and we're trying to have one. My boss was talking about a promotion the other day, and I ended up telling her I couldn't consider it before I had another baby!! And DH doesn't find my back pain as exciting as me..........I'll just stay in my little ttc excitement bubble on my own! lol

Oh no, just focus on the pounds that you have lost so far!! Much more positive to look at it that way instead of focusing on the journey still to go!
Just take it easy....how many DC's do you currently have? I bet you are still really busy with your move etc.

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 12/05/2015 02:45

We're here to share the excitement of your ttc bubble and back pain with you (even if your DH is not so excited by the small details - that's blokes for you I'm afraid)! Grin

Yep, still really busy with move stuff. It's never ending. I have a 3.5yr and a 1.5yr old so the fun (and laundry, and floor/hand/mouth/bum wiping fun) never stops in this house!! Wink

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 12/05/2015 22:58

He's not excited yet, though I'm sure he will be when I do fall pregnant. And there isn't much point in me talking to him about the back pain etc, he has no idea what it means. I tried to explain to him the other day that it possibly means that I have ovulated, and he said "but you haven't had a period", no darling. Period comes about 2 weeks after ovulation.......I'm going to draw him a little diagram showing the monthly cycle!!

I found out today a girl at work is pregnant. Torn between congratulating her, feeling jealous, and thinking "ooh I could go for a temporary promotion and do her job while she is off".......

Non-stop party at yours then takestwo - do you get paid for childcare out there (like our 15hrs a week for 3yrs+), or do you have the two kids with you all the time at the moment?
I must get forms for the local nursery for DD. She doesn't get her funded hours until January, but I want to start her off with one session a week in October. Not sure how she will like nursery, as she hated the toddler group that we used to go to, but she had absolutely no issue with me leaving her with a childminder last year!

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 13/05/2015 12:30

Haha, urgh, yes that would be a good idea ColdFeet Could you imagine! That's really good about your DD's Potty Training, I bet your very pleased with Her. How did the Shopping Trip go? No, I suppose not. Even though I am not eating healthy at all atm, I'm actually not really gorging myself on much. I still don't seem to really fancy anything much, but I am eating more to try and help with the Sickness! But I'm deff more active, just not as active as I should be! But I am more active this time round. And from September, DS will be going to Pre School twice a Week, which is a 10 Min walk, there and then back again, and I'll be doing that Walk 4 times a Week! I never have the Car, and no Buses go that route. So even in awful weather, I'll have to walk! So that's good. Any sign of AF yet? Sorry to hear about your IBS, has it calmed down now? Wonder why that happened, just because you came off the Pill? Yes, we'll be excited with you, and all your aches and pains lol.
Wow TakesTwo that is fab news about your weight loss! I bet your well chuffed with yourself. And that's with stuffing yourself silly due to the sickness. I'm the same, exercise is the last thing on my mind. My lovely DH came Home from Work last Night, and stated that I should have gone out for a lovely long Walk as the Weather was so nice, He soon stopped talking once He looked at my Face! I have felt the worst I have felt this time round since Sun Night. So I know it's unfair on DS, but leaving the House was not on my mind Monday and Tuesday! When should you be finished with the move?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/05/2015 00:42

Just a quick update for tonight as I'm on my mobile and the site has gone a bit weird and it would take me forever to answer your post marking .....

No sign of AF yet. I took my last pill 4 weeks ago but I don't expect to have a regular cycle straight away. Would be nice though. I have been having back pain on and off for 2 weeks now. I'm getting a little bit impatient to be honest. I would like to be pregnant now!! Lol or I would at least to know how long my cycle is these days. I don't like not knowing.....

I feel a little lost at the moment. In limbo. I think it's partly the ttc and not knowing how long it will take, but probably more to do with not having a project!! I've spent 3 years being quite busy with planning a wedding, selling and buying a house and having a new baby. Now it's getting on with normal daily life. I have lots on my to do list but I just don't have the motivation to get on with this list at all. I guess I need to have things going on in my life to look forward to / have firm deadlines. Otherwise days just tend to merge into one...

Oh I am melancholy this evening. Just one of the many emotions that come with ttc. ...that and the impatience. ...that is going to get annoying.

Will give AF 2 weeks to show up. Then I shall start trying to track my cycle to see what is going on......

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/05/2015 00:54

And my nipples are sore. Especially my left one. Just thought I'd share. ........

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 15/05/2015 01:12

Have you poased cold? Just w thought Wink

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/05/2015 01:45

No I haven't even thought to. Would be a near miracle for me to fall pregnant within one month of coming off pill and not having had a period!! Haha it took me 6 months to fall pregnant with DD. I was thinking more along the lines of PMS but I might just pick up a test or two tomorrow. ..........

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 15/05/2015 14:26

Yep it's infuriating how pms symptoms can drag on and be so many and varied. But if it was me I'd have to test just in case. I'm a dreadful repeat-poas-er though, so you may not want to follow my example!! SmileGrin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 15/05/2015 23:08

I didn't buy any tests today! lol I think I want to have a few more symptoms going on before I start that malarkey! Otherwise I could end up POAS every week for 6 months lol
But saying that I did a test when I was pregnant with DD because I had had "Period" pain for a week with no AF.......turns out they were implantation cramps!!

It's really annoying at the moment, because I am getting different "symptoms" all over the place. Back pain, breast pain, tender stomach/ovaries etc.....years ago it just to do getting back ache either a few hours before AF arrived, or as AF arrived. Would have back pain and stomach cramps for 1-2 days, and that was it until next AF. It would be nice to get back to a pattern.
Trying to take my mind off it really - trying to keep really busy when I am at work, and have asked to take on additional responsibilities, as otherwise I will get bored, and my mind will wander, and I'll get down about ttc taking so long! lol

Hi Marking - DD is still doing really well with potty training. When we were out shopping on saturday she tried to hold herself the whole time we were out - bribed her to go to the toilet in the end!! We were out again this morning, and she just held herself for ages, even though I had potty with me. Haven't got there completely yet though - she did a poo on the bathroom floor yesterday....she was standing between DH and the potty lol .... oh well, at least it was on tiles, not the carpet!!
It's great that you are trying to stay active. Just go for walks and stuff, will help with the circulation and stuff. And its good practise for labour ;-)
Not sure why my IBS has flared up, but I am like 99% sure its related to coming off the pill. When I came off the pill 8 years ago for several months, I was in awful pain with it all. I hadn't been diagnosed with IBS then, and ended up having tests for crohns, colitis and a laparoscopy to look for endometreosis - that's when they found one of my ovaries had loads of cysts.

Hopefully you will start to feel better soon marking - then you can get out and about when you feel like it. Until then DH will need to learn to think before he speaks!! Does your DS get a bit mischevious if he doesn't go out for a few days? If we don't go out of the house/play in the garden fora couple of hours to burn off her energy DD goes a bit mental and starts climbing the sofa etc. I put music on for her to dance around to, burn off her energy that way. She likes watching The Tweenies, so I go on to YouTube and put their songs on - someone has put loads of their songs together so DD has over an hour of songs to dance around to - she'll be charging round the room singing along to music man, and gonna build a house. It saves our sofa a bit

What to do with myself this evening? DH fell asleep about 10:15 (I hadn't even been home an hour!!) ...dishwasher is already on....I might load the washing machine ready for the morning and climb into bed.....might do a face pack...paint my nails....anything to keep busy!! lol

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 19/05/2015 07:49

Any sign of AF yet ColdFeet? It must be annoying getting all these symptoms and nothing coming of it! I presume your next Project will be TTC lol!! Glad to hear your DD is still doing well at Potty Training, seems like you/She has cracked it! I suppose there will always be accidents along the way! I'm pretty lucky with DS actually, He doesn't seem to mind staying in. He has lots of Toys, enjoys watching TV, and we do lots of different stuff indoors. Or He plays in the Garden. We go to Playgroup on a Wednesday Morning, and from September He'll also be going Playgroup Tuesday and Thursday Mornings! Were away from Friday for a Week, doing things each Day. But were going away with the in laws, so I am counting on me being able to have lots of nap times lol

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/05/2015 12:48

Nope, no sign. I did buy a couple of pregnancy tests this morning. Not sure when I will take them yet. I only ever do them in the morning, so no urge to go and do a test right now.
I feel absolutely shit today. I have a major headache, possibly sugar related, and just want to sit in a room by myself and cry all day. I am blaming hormones, as I don't normally react like that to a headache!

DD would also be happy not going out to parks etc as long as she can play in the garden. She can do one day of playing indoors with toys and watching tv etc, but after a couple of days she is itching to get outside somehow.

When are you going away Marking?

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 19/05/2015 15:56

Aw bless you ColdFeet It really does sound like your reacting to coming off the Pill. It does happen, I think Headaches may have something to do with that too?? But if you suffer with them often anyway, maybe not! Yea, DS is pretty much the same, that's why it's good His Toddler Group is on a Wednesday! Just wish there was something else local like it on a Friday aswell! Oh well, He'll soon be asking to go out every Day I am sure once He is talking. So I won't be able to get away with it for much longer Wink
Were going away Thursday Evening. Off to go visit my Family in Dorset (Where I'm from) Then we have a Week in the New Forest with PIL, BIL and His Girlfriend. Were going to Peppa Pig World, I am looking forward to that more than DS I think! You got much planned for the Half Term? I'm guessing you still need to Work through it?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/05/2015 23:44

yeah my PCOS hormones are running wild. I think the headaches are more down to poor diet; I had far too much sugar yesterday, so then I woke this morning feeling terrible, but obviously craving more sugar! I need to wean myself off the horrible stuff! Loosely related to coming off the pill, as my mood swings are making me crave the sweet stuff! Hey ho!!
No you won't get away with it for much longer - before she was 2 as soon as DD was dressed in the mornings she would bring me her shoes - if I didn't get the hint she would also bring me my shoes, then go to the front door and try and open it!
Oh have a nice time. Let me know whether Peppa Pig World is worth it! We've got to work next week, but we have a weeks annual leave from 1st june. We don't need half term off at the moment, though it won't be long before I have the stresses of trying to get certain weeks off work! Although of course by then we'll have run the lottery.........Grin My mum text me earlier to ask if DD can stay overnight on Friday, so DH and I will have some time on our own Friday night/Saturday morning. I won't get my hopes up too much for a nice evening though-chances are DH will be asleep by 10! lol. Quiet weekend other than that. Then on our week off we plan to take DD to Chessington, and to farm. Possibly the beach as well (although DD is not keen on sand, so that isn't top of my list!).

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 20/05/2015 13:50

Yep, I'm banking on DS starting to do that too. He gets so excited when I get the Pram out though, bless Him. I've just never been an active person myself, and DS is a lot to deal with in a open space (Like the Park) By myself!! That's why were doing up the Garden for Him. I ordered Him a Play House for His Birthday yesterday, He'll love that! Oh I will do! I think the Adults are totally more excited over Peppa Pig World than my DS! That's nice of your Mum ColdFeet Is She quiet a Hands on Gran/Nan? Sounds like you have a lovely Week off planned. And it shouldn't be too busy as the Kids will be back to School by then!

TakesTwoToTango · 20/05/2015 19:14

Ooh that reminds me, we were going to go to peppa pig world too, might try and fit that in when we're home next month!

My two also go mad if they are stuck inside for too long. Though given the house proportions are larger over here than back home, they've taken to running laps of the house!!
