Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 02/01/2015 00:56

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

Thanks TakesTwo Gonna take a Test Weds Night, will let you all know!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 13/04/2015 13:35

I was going to say Marking, I'd suggest leaving it a few days. With DD I took a pregnancy test on a wednesday and it was a clear negative. Saturday morning it was a definite positive (all 3 were! lol)

If I were to do a proper vlcd it would be shakes really. I'm still undecided as to do one or not. I over-indulged last night, so at the moment a diet of just shakes is quite appealing, as I never want to eat again!!

TakesTwoToTango · 13/04/2015 18:33

Haha cold that's one way of persuading yourself to diet!

Marking how are you feeling today. Still no AF I take it?

MarkingMyPlace9 · 13/04/2015 19:56

Nope, no AF still. But feeling normal, which is a bit worrying. I know every Pregnancy is different, but I was feeling sick roughly this time last time. DH picked up some Tests tonight, so will take one tomorrow or Weds. I just hope it doesn't come up BFN, I so believe I am! I know I shouldn't though.
How are you feeling now TakesTwo?
Sometimes eating like that gives you the push you need to rethink your game ColdFeet!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 13/04/2015 22:54

I still feel rough! lol My stomach is so bloated I look about 4/5 months pregnant! I have barely eaten all day. I have just added it all up, and I have only eaten 820 calories all day. Not the healthiest food mind you. But I have definitely eaten a lot less today lol.

Good luck for tomorrow/wednesday marking

Oh poor you cold

Good luck for tomorrow/weds marking

I'm okay. Still feeling sick and eating whatever and whenever I need to. Not the best eating plan!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 14/04/2015 19:30

Think that clears that up!

Thanks! Just nice to have a definate yes xx

TakesTwoToTango · 15/04/2015 18:30

I can imagine! How are you feeling?

I had my booking in appointment this morning. Fully clothed (inc knee-high thermal boots) I weighed-in at 2lbs less than I weighed a month ago unclothed, so I'm guessing I've lost about 5lbs-ish? I'm pleased with that as a side-effect of morning sickness (read all-day nausea!). Still haven't managed any light exercise at all, but I'm going to try and do 20 min gentle walking on the treadmill this evening (I'm telling you as a way of making me do it!).

MarkingMyPlace9 · 15/04/2015 20:02

I'm actually feeling great! Few waves of sickness every now and again, but a Biscuit soon sorts that!
Omg, they weigh you in your Booking In Appointment? How mean is that!! But well done, although the Sickness is not a nice thing to have! How's the exercising going tonight TakesTwo!?
I'm not eating well atm, but got some salad and carrot sticks coming on the Shopping on Friday, so hopefully that will stop me eating Biscuits!!!! Weather has been lovely here, so been out every Day, so taking that as my exercise Grin

TakesTwoToTango · 16/04/2015 00:31

Marking I'm in USA apparently they weight you art every single antenatal appointment Shock (yet they don't dip urine for infection/protein/glucose AT ALL throat the pregnancy Hmm)

TakesTwoToTango · 16/04/2015 00:32

Sorry for random typos - 'at' and 'throughout'.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 16/04/2015 00:50

With dd I was weighed at booking in and 36 weeks. I think book in weight is to see if you need consultant led treatment and or a glucose tolerance test. And either the book in bmi or weight at 36 weeks they use to decide if you can go to midwife led birthing centre. Well that's what I remember from dd.

so glad you have got your bfps marking & takestwo - I feel a little left out now (heehee)
Is anyone on this thread still ttc or dieting before they ttc?

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 16/04/2015 02:18

Oh and apparently everyone gets the glucose tolerance test here too at 28 weeks. Yuck! I've managed to avoid it before so not looking forward to that!

Sorry cold we've kind of jumped the gun a bit! We can still focus on the dieting/healthy eating!

I did my treadmill walking tonight - 20 mins (very slowly) and 5 min on the sitting bike afterwards, also very gently. I don't really feel like I've done any exercise but at least it's a start.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 16/04/2015 08:26

That's a bit silly - I don't see why everyone needs glucose tolerance test! do they make you pay for it? Not sure how health system works over there.

Don't worry ttakestwo I'm very happy for you and marking. That was more of a question to the others who used to be on the thread.....tThey all seem to have gone a bit quiet!

You've done more exercise than me haha!!!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 16/04/2015 09:27

Wow, America TakesTwo! Are you in a hot part? That would be my worst Nightmare, esp when Pregnant! But being weighed at every appointment, thats so unnecessary. I wasn't weighed once through my last Pregnancy, and hopefully they won't this time! They do things very strangely over there!
Thank You ColdFeet I am sure you will get yours soon! Are you still TTC? I am deff still up for the healthy eating, just weighed myself and I've put on about 5 lbs since Easter, so annoying! Angry I really can only afford to put on another Stone and 1/2 through this Pregnancy, but as I put on 5 Stone with DS, I think I may struggle to keep the weight gain down! But I'm still not feeling sick atm, so that should make it easier to eat healthier!
Whats the Glucose tolerance test TakesTwo? Well done on your Exercising last Night! Were off out on a Walk in a bit, all I can do really!

TakesTwoToTango · 16/04/2015 18:34

As I have't had it before marking I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it's the test for gestational diabetes and involves having repeat blood tests and drinking lots of sugar liquid in between to monitor how your body deals with it, I think. Yuck! Yes, they charge you for it, although the insurance pays. I guess that's one reason why they go ahead and test everyone. Although bizarrely, they don't give everyone a 12 week scan - I'm only getting one due to 'advanced maternal age' (I'm 35!).

In a part that is warm/hot in summer and really cold in winter!

You're right about doing things a bit 'differently' here - at my booking in appointment I was given a leaflet xplaining that it is the policy of my hospital to make you wait 40 weeks before they will deliver the baby, and giving reasons to justify that policy. I was shocked! Apparently American women find pregnancy a bit uncomfortable from about 33/34 weeks onwards and start demanding that the baby be induced/delivered by cs...

MarkingMyPlace9 · 18/04/2015 10:08

Urgh, that sounds horrible. And I hate Blood Tests, so it sounds even worse! What? That is very wrong. I remember with DS, My MW called me a Mature Mum - I was 27! But DH, who is 4 Months older than Me, wasn't a Mature Dad! Crazy. Well, at least your getting a 12 Week Scan out if it! The Americans are so dramatic! Will you be there still when your due? What is your due date?
Had a very bad Day yesterday, ate so much for Lunch, but still wasn't full! Got Shopping delivered yesterday, so now have fresh fruit and veg and lots of Dips - Yum!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/04/2015 21:17

marking I had the glucose tolerance test with DD (and expect I'll have to have it again due to family history). Over here they take a blood test after you have fasted overnight (14hrs I think). Then they give you a pint of Lucozade to drink, and 2 hours later they take another blood sample. Only then are you allowed to eat. And in between blood tests you are pretty much confined to waiting room. no wandering off anywhere. I found it more inconvenient than anything. took a large book with me. I was used to having blood tests by then. Had one at booking in, and at every scan, but that was just because I was part of a study.

Takestwo - that's a bit extreme! I wouldn't have thought many people would actually be asking for a c section that early on!! Surely people know the baby just isn't ready at that point! That actually shocked me!!

Well, we are now officially ttc!! I took my last birth control pill on Thursday. Up until now I have been attempting to lose weight (haha) before we even started trying, and trying to settle into our new house. But now just feels like the right time to try and start for many practical reasons (DD's age, I have been at my job for 1 year now, we now have a house etc), but it also feels right emotionally. I finally decided in the week that I was going to come off the pill, despite DH and I talking about it on and off for several weeks. Its obviously the right time and the right decision for me now, as I have been ecstatically happy since I made the decision Grin

So, off the pill now. Based on last time I came off, I will probably get my first AF in years in about 5/6 weeks. So between now and then I shall be focusing on eating right, and doing as much exercise as possible (to lessen the PMT etc - DH was having flashbacks of my mood swings yesterday! haha)

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 19/04/2015 22:09

cold that's good news!! I'm glad to hear you sound so happy. Fingers crossed the PMT isn't nearly as bad this time around and the bfp comes quickly for you.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 19/04/2015 22:35

Well at least this time I (and DH) am forewarned about the PMT!!! lol. I have already been taking the evening primrose oil for a few weeks to try and counteract that a little bit. And will be eating as little sugar as possible.

I'm being realistic about how long bfp will take to come - it took nearly 6 months to fall pregnant with DD from day I came off the pill. Though my cycles were about 60 days long, so only had 2 periods while ttc. So I'm not going to start taking ovulation tests, charting my temperature or anything like that. Will just make sure that I am looking after myself, and seeing my husband regularly!! lol

DD told us yesterday that she wants a sister called Summer.....well that's one less thing to decide on!!! haha!

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 20/04/2015 18:38

aw bless your DD cold that's very sweet!
