Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 02/01/2015 00:56

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

Urgh, that Glucose Test sounds horrible (Sorry TakesTwo!)
Wahoo to TTC ColdFeet You certainly do sound happy about it, well done you! I think second (Or third) time round you kinda know how you were the time before, so you try and make things different (Although I am still eating for 5 People - Whoops!) How old is your DD now ColdFeet? Haha, seeing your Husband regularly will certainly help!! And I love the name Summer!
TakesTwo When is your due date?

TakesTwoToTango · 20/04/2015 20:56

15th November Marking all being well. Still got to get safely through the rest of tri 1 though (not taking anything for granted given the bleeding I've been having). Two and a bit weeks until my scan.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 20/04/2015 23:40

DD is 2yrs7months now. She is very decided on wanting a sister rather than a brother. DH told her we'd see what we can do lol.

I'm very happy about us ttc - having to try very hard not to announce it to everyone!! Good thing I can come on here to talk about it! In RL DH and I will keep it to ourselves. Don't want MIL on the phone once a week asking if there is any news!! lol

I have told DH that we need to have an early night (so to speak) at least twice a week. Not just for ttc purposes, but in general!! We spend so little time alone with each other, its ridiculous. I'm trying to do a little plan on what needs doing in the house, so that we spend our weekends doing only what absolutely needs doing. We have decorated DD's room - the rest of the house can wait (probably until I am pregnant and then decide every room needs doing, like I did with DD!)

Had a little bit of period back pain today. Obviously too early for a proper AF, but nice to know that the pill is starting to get out of my system.

Fingers crossed all is well at your scan takestwo xx

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 22/04/2015 09:42

I bet your looking forward to your Scan TakesTwo Will you still be in the States on the due date? I'm surprised there not giving you a Scan sooner as your bleeding and stuff.
It is very hard to not announce it ColdFeet when we were TTC PIL's were talking about us all going on a Holiday so we had to let them know we were TTC as that made a difference on when we would go! And, it's very difficult to not shout it from the Roof Tops as your so excited about it! Bless your DD for wanting a Sister, I keep on asking DS if He would like a little Brother or Sister? And He shakes His Head and says Yes, but I don't think He quiet knows what He's agreeing too lol!
Had a bad Day yesterday Sad DS has been poorly since Saturday, and I managed to catch it off Him, so felt awful yesterday. Hardly ate or drank anything as I felt so ill, forced myself to eat Dinner about 5, as I had the Midwife coming round at 7.30 for booking in and Bloods but I couldn't eat much. Which resulted in her not being able to take the Blood! She tried in both Arms and I threw up in between (Sorry for TMI) Urgh, so She's gotta come back next Week and do it again...I'm really not good at having Blood done, but I got myself ready and was willing to have it done, but She said I was too dehydrated and my Veins wern't playing Ball - Yuck! She also mentioned I might need to have the Glucose Test because my BMI is 32, so more bloody Blood Tests!!!!

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2015 14:07

Oh poor you marking I hope you rate feeling much better soon.

Yes, I'll still be here on due date. So a have a whole new system to get to grips with. I've had scans at 6 and 9 weeks but now have to wait until 12+3 - two weeks today! I'm more apprehensive than looking forward to it to be honest. If everything is okay at that scan then I will allow myself to start getting excited about it. Until then I feel I have to brace myself for it not working out for one reason or another.

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2015 14:08

How are you feeling cold?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 22/04/2015 23:16

I won't be telling anyone that we are TTC, not even my mum. Most people know that we want another baby at some point anyway. But seen as it could take us a while to fall pregnant I don't want people to know - its not as exciting if people keep asking what is going on!! We did ok keeping it to ourselves last time lol.

I hope you are feeling better soon marking. Is it usual in your area for the midwife to come round? I sure my midwife at sure start centre for all my appointments, apart from one home visit when pregnant (blood pressure was low/high, I can't remember which) and when DD was 2 days old.

Did everything look ok at your 6 and 9 week scans takestwo? I know what you mean though. Because of a stupid GP when I fell pregnant with DD I was very concerned that it was an ectopic. I just couldn't get excited when I got BFP, while DH was dancing round the house. We paid for an early scan about 7 weeks to confirm everything was ok and in the right place. Only then could I start to get excited.
Why do they do scans at 6 and 9 weeks over there?

To be honest, I feel a little bit queasy/rough. I'm not sure whether its related to coming off the pill, or my supposed IBS. (GP told me years ago that I have IBS, though to be honest I think my digestive problems are more related to my PCOS. I had lots of digestive issues/stomach cramps etc when I stopped taking the pill for nearly a year in my early 20's). My stomach keeps bloating up, and I have yet to discover what is triggering it. This morning my stomach started to swell after a bowl of special k!! grrr!!!
Feeling a little bit queasy right now, and my appetite ihas been up and down for the last week.
If it doesn't settle down in the next week or two I shall start keeping a food diary. I ended up going Gluten free before when my stomach was really bad, but that's a right pain in the arse to follow!!! lol

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 23/04/2015 01:47

Still feel queasy. And I have just realised that I have spent the evening googling instead of wrapping potty training presents and creating reward charts!!! Bugger!
So the result of my googling; bloating is a symptom of pcos. I'm not exactly sure how it causes the bloating, something to do with oestrogen levels........

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 23/04/2015 11:24

I have woken up feeling like crap. I feel like I have a hangover, yet I did not have the pleasure of drinking last night.....

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 23/04/2015 13:36

Oh poor you cold that sounds miserable. Hope you are feeling better soon. And manage to find a sustainable way to minimise the bloating/discomfort.

My 6 and 9 weeks scans we're done because I was bleeding. They didn't look at things in detail, only that the embryo was in the right place and had a hb. They were looking for the cause of the bleeding, which was around the sac. And felt at 9 weeks that hopefully it wouldn't endanger the pregnancy (at 6 weeks they said it could go either way). So fingers crossed for two weeks yesterday!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 25/04/2015 09:51

Thanks Guys, still suffering with the Cold, which has actually put me off Food, which can only be a good thing!!
Wow, that will be strange TakesTwo But I'm guessing the Baby will have Dual Nationality (I think thats the right wording for it??) Which will be pretty cool! Have you moved into your own place yet? Good luck for the 12 Week Scan, I bet you can't wait!
It's not usual ColdFeet I never had this with DS, but it's a new thing they have brought out, they do Bloods at Home, do all your Appointments at Home, Book your Scans for you, at a Private Hospital that does Evening Appointments so DH doesn't have to take any time off. You also only see the 1 Midwife the whole way through (Unless there ill or on Holiday) I recon I saw around 20 different Midwifes last time! How are you feeling in yourself now ColdFeet? Hope your feeling better, and that you have been enjoying TTC!! I do understand how Gluten Free would work out better for you, My Mum is Coeliac and lost a load of Weight doing it! Did you start on the Potty Training in the end!? Urgh, I remember that feeling well ColdFeet I used to wake up regularly feeling Hungover and like I had Smoked 20 Fags the Night before (Gave up Smoking, and pretty much Drinking, when I found out I was Preggers with DS) When DS was tiny, I always put it down to lack of Sleep.

MarkingMyPlace9 · 26/04/2015 09:19

Well, I have weighed myself this Morning and I have lost 6 Pounds! I suppose not good as I'm Pregnant, but that puts me at my Pre Easter Weight, so I feel better about that! Suppose there has got to be a upshot to feeling like this! How is everyone doing? Where is Yellow?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 26/04/2015 21:43

I will keep thinking of you takestwo - fingers crossed all will be well.

What part of the UK are you in marking - I've never heard of midwives coming out so much!!! When I had DD they were just doing up the local school. It had a sure start centre attached and the midwive had her own room there. Will have to wait and see what happens round my way now! Though even with DD I was allocated the one midwife, and I did have her for all of my regular check ups.

The past few days have been up and down. Stomach keeps bloating up and it is so uncomfortable! It blew up yesterday for hours, and all I had drunk was a chocolate ovaltine, and hadn't had a bite to eat!! It slowly got better throughout the day, and was better by the time I went to bed (mostly thanks to a BBQ dinner, that was basically meat, new potatoes and salad!!).
Not sure about going completely gluten free yet, but will definitely be reducing my gluten/wheat intake dramatically!!! I have just been adding things to the asda home shopping order, and am now dreaming of jacket potatoes and roasted vegtables......yummy!!
I have been looking into the Holford Diet the last few days. It's low GL rather than low carb, so its more about eating the right carbs (complex, slow to digest) instead of highly refined white carbs. I will do a little more reading into that one this week, but it sounds quite good to me so far. Normal food really, and cutting out all the processed food. It appeals to the organiser in me as you do have to count your carbs. I have tried slimming world before and didn't do too well with all the unlimited food. Was having far too much pasta etc!
Anyway, I hit upon the Holford/Low GL diet as it is recommended for PCOS sufferers. It really helps to level your blood sugars. At the very least I hope it will stop me feeling bloated or nauseaus (or both!!) all the time!!

Will see if eating the Low GL way helps me to get a better nights sleep as well. I'm not sure if my morning "hangover" is do to a bad diet, or perhaps I have a little sleep apnea or something?! Some mornings I wake up and feel like I have only had an hours sleep, when I've really had about 7! I didn't feel too bad this morning. In fact I woke at 6am for the loo, and struggled to get back to sleep as I had already had 6hours!
I too normally put this feeling down to a lack of sleep marking but when DD sleeps through the night and normally wakes about 8am I shouldn't really be feeling like this!!

We started potty-trainer last Sunday marking and DD is doing really well so far. Today she did 6 pees on the potty, and no accidents! Most importantly, she sat on the potty this morning completely unprompted, and this afternoon she ran in to the kitchen to tell me "mummy, pee pee time" so that I could help her with her knickers!! Grin proud mummy moment lol

6lb loss since when marking?? Not ideal if you are pregnant lol, but weight loss is often expected in first trimester.....especially when you are ill!!

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 28/04/2015 17:26

I'm in Essex ColdFeet It's a new thing thats been brought in since October last Year. I think it's brilliant and should be Nationwide! Very helpful if you have a Child already at Home, but also if you Work, as no time is needed to be taken off Work for Appointments. Yes, when it happens for you Guys this might be round your way aswell - You never know! How are you feeling now? Anymore Bloating? Mmm I love Jacket Potatos and Salad, although I slather mine in Cheese!! My gosh, all these new Diets coming up. I have never heard of the Holford Diet before? I am dreading Potty Training with my DS, but thats very far off atm. How it is coming along for your DD? So cute that She tells you! I lost that weight in about 10 Days, so not too bad. Still feeling awful with this Cold and basically not eating anything during the Day, and just having Dinner at Night. I'll weigh myself tomorrow and see if I've put any on. It's so annoying as I was so Sick last time when Pregnant with DS. This time I'm not, but I've got this horrible Chesty Cough to deal with instead!!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 30/04/2015 00:20

I've been feeling a little better marking, thanks for asking. Tummy is still not 100% but I'm a lot less bloated. I think this is partly due to me eating smaller portion sizes, and trying to cut back on the wheat, and partly due to having probiotics / yogurt. I've been doing so much research into how I can sort my stomach out, and one possible reason I found for bloating was an imbalance in bacteria in the gut. Bacteria that are there then feast on refined sugars and yeast, making you bloat up. Seems rational, and I thought it wouldn't hurt to try and avoid bread and have a few yogurt drinks.

I know, there are so many "ddiets" out there. logically, I know that to lose weight you need to burn off more than you eat etc. But because of the pcos and supposed ibs I end up doing lots of googling to try and find the perfect diet/meal so that I can feel better. And of course, like most people I desperately try to find the miracle cure for my fatness........

Dd is doing really well with potty training. Dh took her out to shops this afternoon, she used potty just before they went out, and went again as soon as they got in! We've only had two accidents since Sunday, and they were both late in the day.

Have you managed to eat more yet marking? What is stopping you from eating at the moment?

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 30/04/2015 11:13

Glad to hear it ColdFeet You must be doing something right then? Ah yes, Actimel used to help me with Bloating actually. Do you have something like that? I used to just drink one with Breakfast. Thats the right way to loose the weight aswell though, smaller portion sizes - that is where I always fail! Ah, miracle cure for fatness...If you find it, don't keep it to yourself!! Wink Glad to hear it! How old is your DD again? Fingers crossed for you. Have you been using the Chart you were doing? I have been having Toast in the Mornings, and then Dinner, which is better than before. We got in Pizza last Night, and I really enjoyed that. So I have some for Lunch today, then again for Dinner! Not healthy I know, but something that went down well. I'm not sure why I'm not eating tbh, think it's a mixture of Pregnancy and this Cold. But should be back to normal soon. Even though I'm not feeling as sick this time, I've still gone off Tea and Chocolate!!! Dammit!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 01/05/2015 00:34

Yes actimel is what I'm drinking at the moment. Dh and I always used to have them (well ever since a trip to turkey) but last year I bought us some multivitamins with probiotics when we went abroad, and we've been using them since. I'll definitely stick to the actimel now though. They do seem to work better in the drink than pill form. Plus I can't take multivitamins when pregnant.
haha if discover something fantastic and ground breaking I will share all!

Dd is 2.7. The right time for her to potty train I think: she understands the feeling of needing to pee, and grasps the concepts of doing well on the potty means she'll get a treat at the end of the week, instead of wanting a treat after every pee etc. We have a chart on the fridge, so after every pee she comes with us to the toilet to throw away the pee, then goes to the fridge to pick a sticker.

Oooh I had Domino's pizza tonight a treat from work. I had 4 small slices, one dough ball and a couple of wedges and I still didn't bloat up!!! Woo hoo! ! Did drink my actimel about 20-30 mins before eating the pizza though!
I've also gone off tea lately because of my stomach. The thought of it just made my stomach churn. I might try a cuppa in the morning now my stomach has settled. I had hot water with a slice of lemon this morning. It was quite nice!
I can't remember going off any foods when I was pregnant last time. I definitely did not go off chocolate! !! Lol
sounds like you're slowly getting back to normal marking. You'll be eating properly again soon Smile

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 01/05/2015 01:01

Hi all. Glad you are feeling better cold and the actimel is working well for you. Sorry I have been awol recently v busy here preparing to move into a house tomorrow. Still feeling sick and bloated and probably eating far too much to compensate. Less than a week until scan day. Hopefully the house-move will keep my mind off it for now!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 01/05/2015 09:22

Good luck with the move takestwo - delegate as much as possible!!!! Brew

OP posts:
ColdFeetWarmHeart · 02/05/2015 12:01

I have spent the last few days trying not to be an emotional wreck. Dd has been doing really well with her potty training, we don't even really need to ask her if she needs to go now, she'll just tell us. She also now wipes herself after a pee, gets her own knickers nearly all the way up, and tries to tip the pee down the toilet Sad
I very nearly burst into tears yesterday when I went to wipe her to be told "no mummy, I can do it".

My little girl is growing up and doesn't NEED me as much anymore Sad oh god how will I cope when she starts school and wants to play with her friends instead of mummy???!!!

OP posts:
MarkingMyPlace9 · 02/05/2015 20:21

Glad to hear your Bloating is better ColdFeet The Actimel seems to be working - Yippee! I think Girls probably take to Potty Training a lot better, and it seems you have picked the right time to do it! Glad to hear She's taken so well to it bless Her. It will certainly save you money on Nappies! Your lucky you didn't go off any Food. I do seem to go off the same Foods, although I'm not feeling as sick this time, so I have mixed signals about weather it's a Boy or a Girl this time round! Yep, my Cold seems to be going, so my appetite is back to normal. Had Toast for Breakfast, Chip Butty for Lunch and waiting on my Curry for Dinner!! Aw bless, you sound very emotional atm ColdFeet I wonder if that's anything to do with you coming off the Pill aswell? Ahh, they grow up far too quick don't they!
How did the move go TakesTwo I bet your excited for the Scan. My 12 Week Scan is beginning of June - So bloody long to wait!!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 03/05/2015 00:08

Definitely the right time to potty train. So glad I waited! I still have 2.5 packs of her nappies in the house, so they will probably see us through till she's dry a night. Shouldn't need to buy nappies till the Bubba cones along!!

I don't recall going off food, but I definitely found the smell of tuna made me heave, though I have never liked it!

Glad to hear you a eating more now marking!!

It's probably my hormones making me go a bit bat shit crazy and cry every 2 mins. Been off the pill just over 2 weeks now....you never know I might actually get my period after just 4 weeks (would be a first! !!)

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 04/05/2015 16:30

Ah I love tuna when I'm pg!!! I have to be really careful to stay within the guidelines or I'd eat it morning noon and night Blush

Glad the potty training is going so well, that's brilliant! It is a milestone isn't it?! No idea when I'm going to train dc2. He's 21 months and dc3 is due when he will be 2.3. It's tempting to try and have him out of daytime nappies by then but it might be a bit early.

Beginning June for 12 week scan - it seems ages to you but really quick to me! Mine is tomorrow eek! Hoping for the best and bracing myself for the worst.

TakesTwoToTango · 04/05/2015 16:30

Am getting ahead of myself! It's on weds, not tomorrow!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 05/05/2015 11:48

Morning all! How are we all? Hope everyone had a good Bank Holiday? Morning Sickness has ramped itself up these past few Days, and the only things that really fend it off is Bubblegum Bottles (Fizzy Sweets) and Salt N Vinegar Crisps - Exactly the same as last time! I weighed myself this Morning, and I'm the same. But I can't see myself staying the same for much longer if I carry on eating this kinda stuff!! That's good ColdFeet Is She going dry during the Night aswell? That's soo good! Urgh, I hate Fish anyway, so that would deff make me heave now!
How you feeling TakesTwo? How exciting for tomorrow. I hope mine comes round that quick! You all moved in now? I get what you mean about the Potty Training. DS will be 2.5 when the new one comes along, it would be nice to have Him out of Nappies before the new arrival. But I'm not sure if it's feesable!! Keep us updated with tomorrow, sure all will be fine xx
