This is going to be the year I finally lose weight

My youngest child is 2 and I'm not having anymore so I need to sort myself out. I am 5ft 4 and weigh 11st 9lbs (I was 11 st 2 at the beginning of December). I want to be 9st 4lbs but would be happy to be in the healthy BMI range so anything below 10st 6lbs.
I have discovered fitness blender on YouTube/Facebook so plan on trying to do one of their videos 5 days a week. Food wise I need to cut the crap so no biscuits/crisps/chocolate . I will try to eat tea with the children, normally we put them to bed and then eat afterwards which means we are not eating until 8pm and then I won't exercise.
I'm envisaging
Breakfast - overnight oats or omelette cupcakes
Lunch - ham/chicken salad, soup or omelette
Dinner - chicken/fish with veg
I will try not to snack but if I do then I will snack on carrot sticks/rice cakes and houmous.
I know I need to up my water intake and reduce the wine so will be doing dry January.
My husband wants to get healthy too which makes me hopeful that this will be the year it happens!
Anybody else want to join me?

Zing could you not just drink a bottle of room temperature water? I can't drink cold water either so I leave a load of bottles on top of the fridge so I can grab one whenever I fancy. It's also easier than making myself a hot drink so I'm more likely to drink it as I'm a lazy bint!

Donthackmenow · 01/01/2015 19:22

I avoided the pizza and had stir fry veg with prawns. I have been snacking on dried mango, satsumas and grapes (so too much sugar) but better than crisps and chocolate! I have only drank water all day and again would love a coke but am going to resist. Tomorrow should be easier as I won't be hungover!!

zing have you heard of a citrus zinger it is a water bottle with a mini juicer in the bottle to infuse your water with flavour- lime and mint is lovely.

Hello gertrude, definitely a case of the more the merrier. I need to fit into some work clothes on Monday so need to start limiting the damage Hmm.

Spinaroo · 02/01/2015 00:10

Haha- me too re. the work clothes on Monday- dreading it. So my stats are 5 6' and over 13 stone - probably much nearer the 14 but can't bear to look. Have worn a dress size 16 for years but am bulging out in all the wrong places now and refuse to accommodate it by moving up a size. I would like to be around 12 stone- 11.7 would be even better. Was originally planning on not weighing for the month of January until I could feel it in my clothes but may reconsider.

calzone · 02/01/2015 00:16

5ft 6 and 13 St 7lbs ShockShock

I feel so uncomfortable and am joining SW next week. I need to be thinner for Easter.

LakeFlyPie · 02/01/2015 00:23

Good call.
I really need to do this.

Am 5'6'' and my biggest ever.
Have had success with SW before and had a brief dalliance with 5:2 last year.

I'm planning to weigh myself and take waist measurement on my way to bed (in about 2 mins) and then have a 5:2 fast day tomorrow (at work) with SW style meals and NO SNACKING until the next FD (probably next tuesday).

If I could cut out the sugar and snacks I'm certain the weight will fall off but I have such exceedingly poor will power.

I can do this Smile

Off to measure and sleep.

Good luck everyone.

IKillPlants · 02/01/2015 01:23

Count me in too. I need to share that I am doing this or I will procrastinate for another year.
5'3", a mortifying 15 stone. I want and need to do this in 2015, I am fed up looking fat but now I have two little ones, I am terrified I won't enjoy every moment with them for the sake of a few biscuits and what not.
I need to eat way less, particularly sugary stuff and get in to exercising on a regular basis so am going to track on myfitnesspal.
Good luck to us all!

Donthackmenow · 02/01/2015 02:51

My children r currently tag teaming me to ensure I have no sleep and want to survive on sugar tomorrow. The oldest is doing here first night without a pull up and keeps calling out because the wind is waking her up. The youngest is just awake and grizzling, trying to ignore him but I'm still awake, grrrr. Everytime I get up to respond to one of them dh rolls into my space.

Donthackmenow · 02/01/2015 02:52

Oh and I cracked before bed and ended up eating a small bar of dark chocolate, a mince pie and an ice pop Hmm

Count me in too. I'm 5'3" and 11st - I'm very petite and really want to get back down to 8st. I'm mortified that I'm actually heavier than when I was pregnant and my 'baby' is nearly 5.... ! I've been half-heartedly trying to lose weight for the last year, but, my head just really hasn't been in the right place. I feel much more positive now and am starting 5:2 on Monday. Come on ladies: we can do this! Smile

GertrudePerkins · 02/01/2015 09:05

morning

have actually woken up feeling quite positive and so have decided to start today. Are we going to have a formal weigh-in day, or does it suit people better to have their own weigh-ins? I will get weighed shortly but report on Mon if everyone else is

Donthackmenow · 02/01/2015 09:16

Morning everyone, welcome lost.
I am happy to do either with regards
to weigh ins, does anyone know what has worked on previous successful threads?

I am just cooking some porridge for my breakfast. First time I have used real oats rather than oats so simple- it doesn't look great! Going to have salad and prawns with cous cous for lunch and soup with a wholemeal pitta for tea. Will snack on carrots and sugar snap peas. And I am planning on doing an exercise video tonight when the children are in bed.
Good luck everyone who is starting today!

I'm 50 this year,I am also the heaviest I have ever been. 5'4" & 15.7 st.
At least 5 stone overweight. My BMI is over 37,so technically obese.
I had to buy a pair of 22 jeans as my 20's were feeling a bit tight.
I am past the disgusted with myself stage and just feel very sad that I have let myself go to this extent.
When I think of someone I'd like to look like in my 50's it is Julianne Moore, I think she is so naturally lovely. When I look in the mirror I see Bubbles DeVir from Little Britain staring back. Confused
I'm going to put those 2 pictures on my fridge I think....

2kidsintow · 02/01/2015 11:08

Hi. I'd like to join please. 5'6, 13st 6lb. I used to hold steady at 12 St until I got poorly last year and had to go on medication that has weight gain as a side effect. I joined wejghtwatchers just before Christmas to minimise any da age and haven't put on much over Christmas, but I'm another one unhappy with wearing a tight size 16 when I used to look curvy and good in a small 14.

I am poorly at the moment so not up to shopping or planning for this so will also realistically start on Monday.

2kidsintow · 02/01/2015 11:09

I will be weighing in on a Thurs but happy to report on a Monday.

somethingintheway · 02/01/2015 11:12

Hi , I would like to join I'm 5'6" and weighed 15 stone 2 on NYE now 14 10 as had a dreadful bug. Not sure if mostly water will see what happens , got lots of lovely healthy food being delivered this afternoon. I've never been over 15 stone so I really think now is the time to make a change. I've got my fitness pal and will start running when I'm better.

Kim82 · 02/01/2015 11:13

Morning everyone. Well, I weighed myself this morning and am officially 11st 3lb. I'm starting my diet today so my weigh in day will be a Friday if that's ok with everyone. I haven't eaten anything yet today as I only got up an hour ago (dh did the morning shift with the kids) but I'm planning on having weetabix as my breakfast/dinner and will eat fruit to fill me up until tea time. I'm going to use My Fitness Pal to log all my food and help me keep control of my calorie intake. Good luck everyone!

AppleSnapple · 02/01/2015 13:14

Hello again!
My official diet doesn't start til Monday as we're not back home til then, still away doing xmas/new year with family. So although I'm watching what I eat, I won't be going hard core til we get back!

So here are my thoughts... I am quite good with will power, can follow diets etc, but when I fall off the wagon, I really do, and it always takes me ages to get back on!

I've been unhappy with my weight since having my 1st (he's 5) and didn't try too hard I suppose as I knew we would like another one soon after. I had a medical condition after birth of 2nd one (he's 2 now!) and that meant I couldn't exercise- I had an operation during the summer and now totally fixed- and that should've been the turning point but it wasn't, I just didn't/couldn't mitivate myself. I do no exercise apart from the school run (uphill, 10 mins each way twice a day apart from the 2 days I work) I know that to lose weight and sustain it I must exercise. Dieting and healthy eating isn't enough for me. But I do get disheartened if I don't see results quickly!

My other problem is we don't have help nearby, my husband works late so I really don't get time in the week to exercise. On the days I work, I do 14-15 hour days so I tend to get home around 10 pm and although I eat healthily, cereal etc, because I'm starving I eat too much and its far too late to eat anyway.

So they're my pitfalls, I know them and understand them. I hate feeling too big, I don't want another summer of feeling fat in summer clothes. Also going away in feb with some friends and don't want to feel like a fat pat (although that's only 1 month away!)

IF you're still reading (didn't mean to make this such an essay!) these are my (new!) thoughts. Was up a lot lastnight with cranky non-sleeping 2yo so lots of time to plan!

I am going to do mfp and more importantly get up early and do shred video on the mornings I don't work. (Double effect- we're always late for school so good for me to get up early anyway!!!)

But... What do you think about a little kick start? Would it be silly to do something like 7 day juice plan to lose half a stone to motivate me to start, then switch to low carb calorie counting as per original plan? I know the science and know it's prob a lot of water you lose rather than "real" weight but I also know I would be more motivated if I saw early results (and be a bit slimmer for hols in feb!!)

What do you think??
(So sorry for droning on)

LostInMusic · 02/01/2015 17:23

I think the problem with a 7 day juice diet could be that after a few days, you're so hungry and miserable that you binge and then it throws you totally off track.... I honestly think that the road to success lies with making smallish changes that can be kept up long term. The way that I'm trying to look at it is: even if I only lose 1/2 lb a week, I'll still be 2 st lighter by this time next year. And, it won't be so painful along the way.

IKillPlants · 02/01/2015 17:23

Apple, I am going to Shred too, starting tomorrow. I find it really motivating and terrifying but have never lasted the full 30 days. I am also putting a pic on my fridge of me in my exercise gear to scare me away from it. Might have to stick one in the biscuit tin too Grin
I am nearly two stone heavier than I was this time last year. When I was six months pregnant. Lost all the baby weight very quickly and then spent my entire maternity leave eating cake and buns with other mums. Grrrrrr, so cross with myself.
Donthack I use real oats but I use half as much again of water/milk and that helps as well as crazy stirring when it's in the pan.

ZingTheGreat · 02/01/2015 19:10

kim

I've given up drinking for a bottle because if it's conveniently sitting on shelf next to me while i bf DD finds it and either pours it all over sofa or drinks from it (translation: drinks, spits into bottle, pours rest on sofa)

our kitchen is now too cold, even bottled water gets colder then i like it.

so I had "Hot Virgin Pimms" last night. it was yummy!Smile

today's been reasonable but I fell face first into selection of BaklawaBlush
To compensate I'm not eating mash & sausage with family, but tomato soup and a few oatcakes instead.
then grapes later.

ZingTheGreat · 02/01/2015 19:10

SylvaniansKeepGettingHoovered · 02/01/2015 21:32

Could I join please? I'm 5'3" and have a small frame, I'm 10st 4lbs and want to get back to 9st. I recently read 'Eating Less: Say Goodbye to Overeating" by Gillian Riley, which has really motivated me and made me realise that overeating is actually an addiction. I don't massively overeat (I'm not gorging on Maccie D's every day) but I do overeat, and it all adds up to extra fat on my body.

I'm planning to use MFP to record everything I eat, at the moment my aims are:

  • stop eating food while I'm preparing the evening meal
  • drink more water and less coffees with sugar
  • reduce portion sizes (especially pasta)
  • stop eating slices of white bread covered in butter when I come home from the school run (I always get hungry at 4pm). I'm thinking I could have an afternoon snack of a cracker & cottage cheese & cucumber instead.
  • eat more vegetables with our evening meal, less pies and chips, more chicken, fish and salad
  • stop eating a chocolate bar each evening
snozcumber79 · 02/01/2015 22:28

I would love to join you all! I'm 5ft 7 and 13 stone so at least a couple stone to lose. Was planning on just eating healthy with less carbs and I have the 30 day shred dvd..good luck everyone!?? Smile

2kidsintow · 02/01/2015 22:35

I can't do 5:2, I've tried. I don't mind not eating and am not bothered by hunger, but then once I start I cannot stick to 500 cals.

So, instead, I don't have breakfast (don't care for it), have fruit as a snack at work mid morning if I'm not on duty with the children, then soup, more fruit and a fibre bar for lunch. Then I have enough points left for a decent dinner and something to nibble on if I get hungry once the children are in bed.

Going back for more is my downfall, especially with treats.

What I'm struggling with is that my hip joint is not correctly shaped and it catches with some movements and hurts or locks up. I love Zumba and will carry in going even though I don't get the full benefit.

I NEED to ditch done weight now as at some point there will be an operation and several weeks stuck on crutches, followed by a ban on impact exercise for 6 months. Eek.Sad

2kidsintow · 02/01/2015 22:36

Oh, and I've ordered a portion plate from amazon to help with how much I eat.
