This is going to be the year I finally lose weight

Donthackmenow · 31/12/2014 09:13

My youngest child is 2 and I'm not having anymore so I need to sort myself out. I am 5ft 4 and weigh 11st 9lbs (I was 11 st 2 at the beginning of December). I want to be 9st 4lbs but would be happy to be in the healthy BMI range so anything below 10st 6lbs.
I have discovered fitness blender on YouTube/Facebook so plan on trying to do one of their videos 5 days a week. Food wise I need to cut the crap so no biscuits/crisps/chocolate . I will try to eat tea with the children, normally we put them to bed and then eat afterwards which means we are not eating until 8pm and then I won't exercise.
I'm envisaging
Breakfast - overnight oats or omelette cupcakes
Lunch - ham/chicken salad, soup or omelette
Dinner - chicken/fish with veg
I will try not to snack but if I do then I will snack on carrot sticks/rice cakes and houmous.
I know I need to up my water intake and reduce the wine so will be doing dry January.
My husband wants to get healthy too which makes me hopeful that this will be the year it happens!
Anybody else want to join me?

Hi there, can I join in too?
I'm 5.6 , size 14/16 and 12st11. My youngest has just turned 2 so "but I've just had a baby" no longer cuts it!
I'm 5:2ing and for January just aiming to get some exercise (walking mostly) every day before I join the gym/do classes.
DH has agreed to join me and promises to "do as he's told" with regard to diet which will make shopping/cooking easier as I won't ask him what he fancies and get led astray.
2015 is the year I have to change my ways, I'm 40 this year and I feel like if I don't shift the weight now I never will.
My mantra is going to be "HAVE A GLASS OF WATER!!!".

Sylvanians

what's MFP?

Donthackmenow · 03/01/2015 05:54

Mfp is my fitness pal.

I've just read an article on the 5:2 diet on the daily mail website and was wondering whether to try it. I feel like I have been doing ok on the eating but not managed any exercise yet. Neither child has been sleeping well and I'm shattered, I've also been trying to finish a box set, that is done now so no excuses.

Okay well yesterday started off well and went downhill as I was on my own with the baby at tea time (eldest was at his dad's, dh had taken the two older girls to his mums for tea) and as I didn't want to prepare a full meal just for myself and I haven't been shopping I filled up on the leftover Christmas chocs. Oh well, onwards and upwards (or downwards...).

I'm going shopping this afternoon so will buy plenty fruit and veg and healthy snacks and I'll do a meal plan for the week which I usually find easy to stick to. I've had a bowl of shreddies for breakfast so am feeling nice and full. Long may it continue!

ZingTheGreat · 03/01/2015 11:54

after yesterday's baklawa fiasco i thought I'd better get weighed to asses damage - but i have lost 0.5kg already!Shock

yay!

AppleSnapple · 03/01/2015 12:28

Yippee, well done zing!

AppleSnapple · 03/01/2015 13:11

PS rightly or wrongly... Have ordered crates of fruit on our inline shop to start juice diet Monday... And have roped in my DH too!

SylvaniansKeepGettingHoovered · 03/01/2015 13:37

Yes it's My Fitness Pal, I have the app on my phone so I can record everything I eat, in a bid to eat better food and get more nutrition in me and less fat, sugar and salt.

I'm trying hard to concentrate on the health benefits I'll gain from eating better food & smaller portions - more energy, not getting headaches & constipation, feeling healthier and potentially living longer and fighting off colds and illness, having a healthy heart. I'm doing it for my whole family and I'm convinced this is the way to motivate myself because otherwise I'll put weight back on as soon as I loose even a bit. I'm trying to see the weight loss as a bonus, not the main reason for doing it. I'd love to fit into my old clothes and feel more comfortable in myself alongside the health benefits.

I am struggling with the weekend Sad. I had an omelette for breakfast which has kept me full nicely. My parents have arrived with prosecco (I said no, I'm doing dry January) but I went to get nibbles for them and have eaten some crisps. They are going to eat up the cheese and canapés for me later, I hope I can resist. I'm having a M&S Harissa chicken salad thing now so hopefully I won't be hungry. Still only drank water since New Year's Day so that is a plus!

Well i guess i start tomorrow, a pot noodle & a sausage roll have passed my lipsSad

ZingTheGreat · 03/01/2015 16:14

I really like that we are all doing our own thing.Smile

I need to clean my fridge tomorrow & ban stuff I can't eat to 2nd fridge in garage so, I'm not tempted during the day. out of sight, out of mind.

snozcumber79 · 03/01/2015 17:30

I've had a good day but have been craving choccy a little so made these (fairly) healthy truffles...i recommend for a chocolate fix! :- blend a handful of raisins, pumkin seeds and dried berry fruit mix then add organic cocoa powder (approx 2 tspn) and 2 tbsp of honey and organic peanut butter. Mix all together and roll into small truffle sized balls and refrigerate for about an hour, then enjoy!Grin

snozcumber79 · 03/01/2015 17:31

Btw these are quite filling so I can normally only eat 2 a go Smile

AlwaysWashing · 03/01/2015 19:36

For the last few months (well since last May really) DH have eaten really badly, lots of takeaways, processed ding dinners and the like. I've cooked proper food for the DC, they've eaten as well as ever but weeks went by when I didn't eat a single piece of fruit Blush
Just these last 3 days of eating clean have been bliss. I've cooked for us all, we are eating at the table as a family again for breakfast and dinner and I've managed to get a good, sweaty walk in each day. DH is cooperating nicely too!!
Wishing you all motivation and will power!

Donthackmenow · 03/01/2015 19:57

I didn't manage to avoid the canapés and am now feeling stuffed. I didn't drink any alcohol though and am feeling confident that I will be back on the wagon tomorrow. I have dug out one of my old size 8 dresses and hung it by the window so that I can see it everyday. At the moment it looks like an impossible dream but if I could wear it to a wedding at the end of June I would be thrilled! 6 months and nearly 3 stone is that doable do you think?

Donthackmenow · 03/01/2015 19:59

snoz they sound lovely, I may have to give it a try.
alwayswashing I have also had a similarly shocking diet.
It is embarrassing, and I slipped back into 'old' ways far too easily today Blush

Fourarmsv2 · 03/01/2015 20:37

Good luck everyone.

I can't recommend the Harcombe Diet enough to anyone who needs to lose weight. I eat mainly high fat low carb but it's about not mixing fats and carbs whilst eating lots of unprocessed food.

pumpkinsweetie · 03/01/2015 23:55

Sounds like a good idea dont maybe i should do similar, by buying a dress a few sizes smaller and stick it up where i can see it, maybe stick a post it note on it too with a slogan. I'm a 16-18 at the moment, nearing closer to 18. My goal starting better eating on Monday, is to get into a size 14 comfortably by atleast April-May.

LakeFlyPie · 04/01/2015 00:46

Great to see the thread gathering pace and so many good intentions.

I kicked off with a 5:2 fast day on friday which was my first day back at work since Christmas. It felt good not to be mindlessly scoffing all day which is what the Christmas break had turned into.

Have eaten more healthily today and feel motivated to continue. I usually proceed in an inspired fashion for the 1st couple of weeks so need to just keep steadily ploughing on.
I've done a veg laden shop and booked a few classes at the gym for the coming week. I'm going to try a couple of new ones (exercise classes not veg) which is a bit scary as there don't appear to be any overweight people at any of the classes I've tried so far and the surround mirror walls are a bit off putting although I do take my glasses off so my rounded form has a myopic air brushed appearance (to me anyway)Grin

LakeFlyPie · 04/01/2015 00:49

Also, I did weigh and measure on thursday evening and confirmed that I'm the heaviest and biggest ever Sad
Will plan to weigh and measure fortnightly at least, possibly weekly - will see how it goes.

Trudee · 04/01/2015 09:10

Hi guys, can I jump in too?
I've also decided this is the year I sort myself out. Both dc's are at school now, I'm working part time with a view to finding a full time job and finally feel my head is in the right place to tackle my weight - ideally I want to shift 2 stone.
Before dc's I was around 9stone and even after dc1 I got back to almost pre pg weight but after dc2 I was 13stone Blush which I managed to get down to 10 stone but have crept back up to my current 11 stone 3 Sad
I'm not following a specific plan as it's near impossible with my dh and VERY fussy dc's to cater for so I'm just cutting out snacks and moving more.
I officially start tomorrow when dh goes back to work after Xmas leave so tonight I will be going through the food cupboard and clearing out any temptation Smile

Donthackmenow · 04/01/2015 12:52

Hi Trudee, we have the same end goal but I have a heavier starting weight!
We have just got back from the shops and dh bought sweets, I resisted sweets, chocolate and crisps! Trying decide whether to have soup or salad for lunch, exciting times Smile

OP posts:
Trudee · 04/01/2015 13:07

It's more difficult when people around you aren't "on the wagon" but it's good that you didn't give in! My dh can be a bit of a feeder but if I'm in the right mindset I don't cave in.
I've just had my last pudding for a while. We got into the habit of pudding every day so I just didn't buy anything other than Yogs for the dc when I shopped on Friday.
Enjoy your lunch whatever you decide on Smile

Donthackmenow · 04/01/2015 13:17

I went for chicken salad but had some couscous with it to try and ensure I am too full to snack!
Back to work tomorrow and need to avoid the biscuit tin.

IKillPlants · 04/01/2015 17:26

Hi everyone. I am organising like crazy for the week ahead, starting tomorrow properly with this. I am having two eggs scrambled for breakfast which I will make tonight and stick in Tupperware and eat cold because otherwise it just won't happen. Gross I know but I lost weight before doing this. Mid-morning snack of almonds, currently looking for inspiration for lunch and then half a v large steak for dinner with lots of veg.

Alwayswashing that will see me have more veg in one day than I have in an entire month so you aren't alone!

I would love to know what you all have at lunchtime, particularly those of you taking a packed lunch to work. I have access to a microwave and toaster.

So I will be properly weighing in tomorrow morning. Dreading it Blush particularly as my DH asked me earlier if I would be ok to use the exercise bike he ordered as the maximum weight is 100kg. Just about is the answer but I could have crawled under the sofa when he asked.

Sounds like a lot of us are starting from tomorrow so I just wanted to say good luck to all of us and remember to take each day as a fresh start no matter what happens.
