This is going to be the year I finally lose weight

Donthackmenow · 31/12/2014 09:13

My youngest child is 2 and I'm not having anymore so I need to sort myself out. I am 5ft 4 and weigh 11st 9lbs (I was 11 st 2 at the beginning of December). I want to be 9st 4lbs but would be happy to be in the healthy BMI range so anything below 10st 6lbs.
I have discovered fitness blender on YouTube/Facebook so plan on trying to do one of their videos 5 days a week. Food wise I need to cut the crap so no biscuits/crisps/chocolate . I will try to eat tea with the children, normally we put them to bed and then eat afterwards which means we are not eating until 8pm and then I won't exercise.
I'm envisaging
Breakfast - overnight oats or omelette cupcakes
Lunch - ham/chicken salad, soup or omelette
Dinner - chicken/fish with veg
I will try not to snack but if I do then I will snack on carrot sticks/rice cakes and houmous.
I know I need to up my water intake and reduce the wine so will be doing dry January.
My husband wants to get healthy too which makes me hopeful that this will be the year it happens!
Anybody else want to join me?

Great positive start! Very motivating. Somethingintheway I am aiming for 10000 steps a day too.
I was told by a friend today that Jaffa Cakes are meant to be good if you really need something sweet. Kinder to a diet than biscuits. May investige this idea. Although DH eats any tasty food in 2 seconds.

IKillPlants · 08/01/2015 00:19

Apple and Something fabulous start for both of you. I am inspired. Third day of myfitnesspal for me and I have been disciplined so far, hoping for a good result when I do my weigh-in on Monday.
For anyone looking for recipe ideas, I made the Hairy Dieters meatballs for dinner. DH and DD1 had them with pasta while I had salad. Delicious and really filling, I would highly recommend.

pumpkinsweetie · 08/01/2015 07:21

Ikill sounds good, i am thinking of trying the hairy dieters recipes next week. I especially lile the sound of the Korma they made on the food channel last nightWink

AppleSnapple · 08/01/2015 14:22

Sounds lovely, ikill- which of the hairy dieter books do you have? I must look into those. I am back on mfp and (obsessively) loving it! Got up early and did shred dvd too so generally feeling really positive. I feel better already but I am so impatient, I weigh myself every day looking for miracles which is so unreasonable. I have a scales at work so from now on in going to limit myself to a weigh in every Monday. Keep up the good work everyone!

GertrudePerkins · 08/01/2015 18:54

well done Apple and Something - great losses.

I am doing ok (apart from eating peanut butter out of the jar Blush). I have shrunk my portions, and cut our snacks. I haven't got round to exercising yet as I've been run down, and really need a fortnight of properly early nights to reset things, which leaves little time after work/dinner/bed/bath. I'm off the booze too - I don't drink all that much TBH but what little wine I do have makes me reach for the cheese and crackers.

IKillPlants · 09/01/2015 20:22

Hi all, Happy Friday and good luck to everyone for the weekend. Apple the book I have looks to be the first one, it's got a white cover and is just called the Hairy Dieters cookbook. I bought the stuff for the meatballs again this weekend - I am a bit of a creature of habit and if it works for me, I stick with it.
Have to say I was a lot more motivated this week than I have been in a very long time and I think posting here is a big part of that (along with not fitting in to any of my clothes Grin)
Pumpkin let me know what the korma is like if you make it - I refused a takeaway earlier and Gertrude you and me both on the exercise but I am fixing one new habit at a time so I figure that deserves a pat on the back anyway.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 09/01/2015 20:54

Hello all.
I've been half heartedly being good this week and have lost 1.5lb according to the scales at ww this morning.

I have meal planned for the next few days and hope to keep doing well as I REALLY didn't like what I saw in the mirrors in the changing rooms this week when trying stuff on. I have fat ARMPITS! I never knew.

AlwaysWashing · 09/01/2015 21:07

First week and lost 6lb Grin
My 5:2 fast days aren't proving too hard and the rest of the time I've just been cutting portions by half and bulking up with low cal veg/salad.

What's making this easier is that DH is on board too - after the initial few (5) days of moooaaaning about it all he's losing too and is in the zone!
We're managing to get a decent walk in most days and I've been swimming today.
Oh yes and went to the cinema seemed with a tiny packet (50 cals) of chocolate buttons for me and a pack of 90 cal crisps for him and a can of Zero between us instead of the usual bucket of popcorn and sharing bag of choc and vat of fizzy something! Grin
Sending everyone motivational vibes!

Donthackmenow · 09/01/2015 21:15

Well done always that is great! I have had a bad day food wise but less bad than a normal day before I started- does that make sense?!

OP posts:
AppleSnapple · 11/01/2015 10:37

How's everyone doing? I'm finding it hard to believe it's only been a week... Still impatient for results! Optimistic for weigh in tomorrow, hopefully there will have been a downward trend! I have done my shred dvd 4 times this week and apart from the abortive attempt at juicing for the 1st 2 days, have been calorie counting since then and more or less managing 1200 Cals per day - it's a little harder than I remember but norhing good is easy, right??! Best wishes to all

SmellyFartado · 11/01/2015 11:14

Bit late to the thread but amazing weight loss posts on here so far.

I am not posting my weight as it disgusts me. I have 3 stone to lose. Day 3 today of MFP calorie counting. Gone easy on self Day 1 and did 1500 calories, tried to do less yday but think did the same and hardcore 1200 is the aim for today and into the week.

Was really good at WW once losing 3stone but that was prior to DC. It's so hard to diet again and the first few days have been atrocious. Hopefully my appetite will be settling today and it will be easier to adjust.

Good luck everyone.

ZingTheGreat · 11/01/2015 11:38

I'm so embarrassed. after my "Braveheart" speech it all went terribly wrong and I put on a bit. Blush

I don't think Ican do this. I'm just so tired, I can barely think or do anything. I might just have to stay a fat pig Sad

well done to all who managed to lose weight Thanks

SmellyFartado · 11/01/2015 11:44

Come on Zing. You can do it. Power through the tummy rumblings. Don't give up. Imagine how you'll feel in a week when the scales show off your hard work.

Have resolved that chewing gum will be my friend today.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 11/01/2015 13:47

I need to get planning and to be more organised. I lost a pound and a half this week according to my weigh in, but more by luck and being back in routine (sort of) rather than really trying.

I'm on steroids for my asthma this week, which isn't going to help my routine. I'm trying to reduce the quantity I eat at the moment. Partly after reading some of the 'what slim people eat' threads and realising that my portion sizes are a bit big and partly because I like a little snack in the evening, but don't always have the cals/points etc left to have one.

So my routine is now to eat no breakfast and have a weightwatchers soup, some fruit and a cereal bar for lunch. Then I have plenty left for my dinner and a sweet treat or a bowl of cereal on really hungry days. I find it really easy to ignore any hungry feelings in the mornings and don't usually feel hungry anyway. And I'm no more hungry come lunchtime either. So it works for me.

But I have to eat before taking my steroids this week, so will be forcing myself to have breakfast. Never mind....

I have chicken for fajitas today. Tomorrow will be sweet and sour vegetables with rice. DD1 is making spag bol in food tech on Wed so that's dinner sorted then. :) And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my breathing has improved by Wed as I'd like to go to my zumba class.

Then I will either weigh in on Thurs pm or Fri am.

AppleSnapple · 11/01/2015 14:42

Ahh Zing don't be too hard on yourself! You have thousands of children and I'm not surprised you're knackered!! Tbh I couldn't have contemplated losing weight when my 2 yr old was babyzing 's age.... he didn't sleep more than an hour at a time, I couldn't have survived without food, coffee, chocolate... Whatever got me through the day! So go easy on yourself and when you're ready, you'll do it!

ZingTheGreat · 11/01/2015 14:54

thanks both Thanks

Apple that's a very sweet thing to say. thank you.

SylvaniansKeepGettingHoovered · 11/01/2015 15:56

Oh dear, help!

After losing 3lbs in the last three weeks I'm now worried I've messed it all up for myself over this weekend, I haven't calculated the calories (can't face doing that) but DP really fancied a takeaway curry last night and I feel like I'm mean if I say 'no sorry, it's fish and salad again tonight'. So we had poppadom, starters, rice, main meal & side dish with a small glass of lager. I avoided the naan bread. But today we've had a big roast chicken dinner and a glass of white wine. So I'm feeling quite bloated and worried. Please tell me, how do you persuade yourself to carry on again, after messing it up? This is what always happens to me - I do quite well for a few weeks, but once I get it wrong then I just think 'oh blow it, I might aswell go back to scoffing biscuits again'. How do you pick yourself back up again, knowing that you've probably put the weight back on and gone back to square one? If I do make the effort to carry on with healthy eating, I'll probably blow it again in a couple of weeks and go back to square one again?

ZingTheGreat · 11/01/2015 16:42

sylvaninan

I hear you sista. I'm the same. I don't know the answer either. but if I don't do something now I'll end up another stone heavier, which is even harder to get rid if....so I feel this pressure that makes me panic.
Sad

Chandon · 11/01/2015 18:10

You could just plan in a "balancing day", one take away us not the end, just compensate for an e tra healthy day the next day. Not starving yourself, but just having lots of the good stuff (whole grain, veg) and no sugar/alcohol.

One blow out meal does not cancel out 2 weeks of healthy eating.

Ditch the all or nothing approach!

Cpt574 · 11/01/2015 18:26

Hi, hope I'm ok to join, a bit late I know. Decided to try and start losing weight a couple of days after Christmas, but I get overwhelmed with the different diets, try and do my own thing, and am still at the same weight as I was! So, yesterday signed up for a three month weight watchers plan, quidco doing cash back so effectively free, now just need to do as I'm told and stop making up my own rules. I am 5"2 and 11 stone 3, same as a few others I noticed, hopefully this time with a bit of support I can do it.

Donthackmenow · 11/01/2015 19:32

sylvanians I make this mistake all the time but this time we are not on a diet it is a lifestyle change so you haven't ruined anything! A 'cheat' day/weekend is fine occasionally, I'm sure I read somewhere it can actually have a positive impact on weight loss because you don't feel deprived. The trick is to be healthy again tomorrow - and roast dinner isn't that bad!
zing how will u feel next January if u give up now? This is what I keep thinking to myself, I am 4lbs heavier this January than last year even though I spent most of the year halfheartedly trying to lose weight Sad. It is not happening again!
Welcome cpt Smile. Weigh in day for me tomorrow and I have also had a cheat day today and eaten far too much cake/chocolate/cheese (the 3 c's) so am feeling very apprehensive.
Good luck everyone who is weighing!!

Sorry zing I forgot you had a baby, ignore me. Mine is 2 now and I am only just getting round to losing the baby weight- you've got ages!! Grin

OP posts:
ZingTheGreat · 11/01/2015 19:42

dontcha

I heard the reverse beeping loud and clear! Grin Grin

but you are right. that is exactly the point.

I'm still a stone less then I was in July, 9 m pg so now is the perfect time to not gain any back! (especially that it was through illness, not virtue I had lost the weight in the first place)

I need to get my head round this. I'm stubborn as grease marks, so once I get properly going it will be fine.

thanks all for encouragementThanks it does mean a lot

IKillPlants · 11/01/2015 20:54

Hi Zing, Sylvanian, tomorrow is another day, just start afresh. I know a guy who is know a personal trainer and he was once very obese and that is his mantra. He won't let his clients give up but he doesn't shame them if they slip up.

Speaking of which I did my weigh in today instead of tomorrow and was thrilled to have lost 5 pounds in a week. Just been doing mfp and no booze, sticking around 1250 cals. So thrilled that when I was at a party this afternoon, I decided to treat myself to a big dinner followed by a whack of chocolate biscuit cake and sweets.

Got a flat tyre on the way home, reckon it was karma. Grin

ZingTheGreat · 11/01/2015 21:01

Plants

well done and Grin @ karma!

anyone doing 5:2?
I fancy giving it a whirl, I have heard & seen good results.
I'm going to check it out, but would be useful if someone here could advise me.
