After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

I've had a couple of lapses this week (but have had a good excuse TBH) however I have in general felt very positive about the direction I'm heading in, I have lost the uncontrollable snacking urge to a large degree and am eating WAY less crap carbs than I used to. I'm having one piece of rye bread toast with soft cheese and an egg for breakfast, a properly low carb lunch (apart from fruit) then one of those packs of 6 oatcakes, three after school and three for supper later with cheese, which are my two really weak points in the day. I'm having a small amount of pasta, potatoes etc with my evening meal, but far less than before.

Lots of walking this week (clocked 17,000 steps on Tuesday and 12,000 yesterday), not much other exercise apart from ballet and pilates though. My DF was rushed into hospital on Tues night with a minor stroke, which has obviously been stressful and meant I'm really tired from a lot of extra driving to visit him (he's fine now BTW) and less time for cooking. I had pizza for tea tonight and comfort ate half a tub of Ben and Jerry's last night, but I'm not going to let it turn into a big slide.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 06/02/2015 12:38

Twas good Mary ?? the advantage of eating like this is that I can eat stuff that Dh makes without worrying about how much butter and oil he fires into it. Can you get some snacks in for the evening that you know you can have? I gave in to sesame sticks at work last night but only had a handful. I could eat a bucket of them, they are the devil. I finish work at ten but need to have a cup of tea and wind down when I get home, I have had some Greek yoghurt with a teaspoon of peanut butter mixed in with sliced Apple to dip in.

Had scrambled eggs and sourdough bread for breakfast/lunch today, (busy morning no time for breakfast) will have chilli with cheese in baby gem lettuce wraps with coleslaw on the side in work.

Glad to hear your friend is ok who knows, scary stuff. Draw a line under the pizza and ice cream and start again. What pedometer do you use? I've used various apps before but unsure of how accurate they really are. Glad to hear the cravings have gone with you, that's my problem, I do great for a while and then give in to cravings and go completely off piste for weeks. And put it all back on.

I've lost a stone and a half since this time last year and am struggling to lose that last stone. I weighed myself on Monday and was 10st 6 and I'm trying to resist the scales until Monday again. Clothes feeling a little bit looser so fingers crossed. Hope this works out for me because I am losing the Will with calorie counting.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/02/2015 12:51

I'm using a Fitbit, one of the ones that clips on you clothing, not a wristband. I think it is very accurate for number of steps taken (I counted a 1/2 mile walk with it on a while ago and was within a couple of steps of what it said). However it doesn't take any account of speed or distance, so a slow stroll round Sainsburys is no different to a run up a steep hill.

Since I upgraded my Iphone to IOS 8 that has had a step counter on it too, I think that is reasonably accurate, but I don't always carry my phone on me around the house, whereas the Fitbit is on me all the time (I wear it on my bra).

Cecyhall · 06/02/2015 18:41

Week started well and then not so well, but I have new trainers and a goal to get 1000cals burnt on my Polar by then end of next week. So I will do it!

Seeing my friends tomorrow night for our twice yearly meet up which will involve wine and take away- hoping I can get away with a veg stir fry or veg curry, if it's pizza things won't go so well!

CiderwithBuda · 06/02/2015 21:32

Hi all. Glad to see you back TheRealMary. And CecyHall - glad you are still here too.

I think we all need to remember that we can't be perfect all the time. Well at this eating thing anyway - I'm sure we are perfect otherwise! We will have lapses. We will have nights out. We will have birthdays. The key is not letting one event throw us off completely. I have a skinny' healthy friend who is also a fitness trainer and she reckons aim for 80/20. Good 80% of the time that is not the other way around!

Bustle - the cleanse I am doing is actual real food! Just vegan though. So fruit, veg, nuts and seeds and some grains like quinoa. I have meal plans, recipes and shopping lists for the three weeks.

Day 5 today. And the shitty family stuff I referred to up thread kicked off again today big time. Could so easily have had wine! Luckily I had my dinner prepared - veggie chilli - or would have said sod it and had the macaroni cheese that DH did for him and DS and washed it down with lots of wine. But I Did'nt! Just had lots of water and a herbal tea!

So far I am down 5lbs this week. Obv it won't carry on like that but it's a great boost!

I have decided to have a night off tomorrow night. Steak and chips and onions and mushrooms and peas and pepper sauce. And wine. And cheese and biscuits. Normally my weekends off start Friday and finish Sunday night and I undo all the good I have done. So I will have one night off each week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/02/2015 21:50

Well done Buda, that's an impressive loss. The Friday night to Sunday night weekend was a bit of a problem for me too, so I have switched my weigh in day from Friday to Saturday in order to maintain willpower on Friday nights.

Cecyhall · 06/02/2015 22:57

Nice one Buda, on the weight loss and the not saying fuck it when things were tough.

Whoknows I think I might be with you on the weigh in change- I did weigh tonight (so not an empty not morning weigh in and I was a bit up) but I think a Sunday morning weigh in would be more beneficial to me, less risk of going too crazy at the weekend but before Sunday dinner and then all geared up for Monday again.

Have a good weekend everyone Smile

CiderwithBuda · 07/02/2015 11:57

Totally with you on the Saturday morning weigh in! Weighed again and I'm 7.5 lbs down from Monday! Whoop whoop! Very happy! Grin

So pleased I stuck to plan last night.

DS has school on Saturdays anyway so our Friday nights are normally just another school night. I need to remember that.

Happy Saturday everyone. Hope you all have a good weekend. If you have a treat - enjoy it, savour it, make it count - something really nice not just picking at something not worth it for the sake of it. And then move on.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/02/2015 12:33

I'm down half a pound, happy with that, I want to do it slowly and steadily.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 08/02/2015 08:42

Ah who knows, I have been eying up the fit it but not got one yet. Well done on half a pound down, that's great.

I like the not being perfect all the time Buda particularly because I had a doughnut and potato wedges last night... Back on track today. Leg of lamb for dinner with green beans cauliflower cheese and celeriac chips. Pancakes for the children for lunch has been promised, ill have some fruit and youghurt and a slice of rye bread (finally found some in the corner shop of all places).
Well done on 7 lbs + down, fantastic!

My goal for this week is try to cycle to work at least twice. Icy weather has gone for a while so no excuses now!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/02/2015 10:10

I was doing well yesterday but we took the DCs to Pizza Hut for dinner (we were rushing from afternoon to evening events). I thought I'd just have salad and chicken wings but DH ordered a dish of nachos thst I couldn't resist tucking into. Never mind. need to try and think of something healthy that everyone will eat for tonight, it's always a challenge.

TheRealMaryMillington · 09/02/2015 09:46

Wow 7.5lbs! I can only dream of that.

And it is great that we are all still here!

I think I am starting afresh today. The weekend was not bad - but I think although I am mindful about a lot of things I am not mindful about food. So from this week I shall try to do that. The exercise is paying off in that my waist, legs and hips are distinctly slimmer and my arms are more toned. I I am really enjoying it - I'm hoping I am ingraining habits, but I need to give time and effort to planning food properly.

CiderwithBuda · 09/02/2015 14:51

I was pretty chuffed with my 7.5 lbs.

Then I had my night off on Saturday.

Weighed this morning and am up 4 lbs!

Not a happy bunny. Hoping it goes quickly.

Went straight back on plan yesterday so hopefully by tommorow it should have disappeared.

TheRealMary - impressed with your exercise results. Well done. I finally went to the gym this morning. First time since last July! Blush. A friend talked me into trying Body Pump. I survived! If I can walk tomorrow I will try Zumba.

OP posts:
BustleInYourHedgerow · 10/02/2015 08:29

Who knows - feck it, nachos are impossible to say no to. Draw a line under it and start again. What did you end up having for dinner with the family?

Well done on the excercise Mary, I must get back in on it. It's lovely seeing the results of your work, be sure to take some pictures now!

Cider- that is probabr water weight particularly if you were eating sugar and carbs.

Weighed myself yesterday and I'm down 4lbs! Yaay so it's working ?? feeling really positive now, setting a goal for myself to be below the 10st Mark by the end of February. It'll be the first time since before I got pregnant with ds2, who is now 2 years old....

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/02/2015 09:01

Well done Bustle. I have just confused myself by reading a succession of articles in the Guardian online about how dietary advice keeps changing - fat bad, carbs bad. The only consistent message seems to be eat less.

Buda - I used to do Body Pump, had to stop because of injury but I did enjoy it. I've kept going with ballet, starting to feel as though I'm getting the hang of it now. Not getting much cardio done though, everything's been manic here since Christmas. A friend has cancelled on coffee with me later, so I might go swimming.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 11/02/2015 23:10

True Buda, I have been tempted to input my daily intake into my fitness pal but I'm doing ok so far.... Eating less is the way forward alright, but avoiding bread and sugar seems to be the way forward for me too. I had some aldi coleslaw today and it tasted so sweet, when I checked the ingredients it had sugar in it. Sugar. In coleslaw. Pfft. I cycled to and from work today, a hilly 7k each way.

CiderwithBuda · 12/02/2015 10:56

Hi all. Still here. Still on cleanse. Finally got back to Saturday's weight this morning!

Actually when I say I'm still on cleanse I am not entirely. Week two is harder than week one with no grains or legumes. Decided that might be too hard so I've stuck to the week one principles. So I'm having porridge for breakfast and making substantial salads with hummus, chickpeas etc. Made a yummy carrot and parsnip soup too and used a can of cannellini beans to thicken it. It was lovely and creamy from the beans when I blended it all up.

Hope you are all still at it!

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/02/2015 11:14

I'm still here, I had a bit of a lapse last night, well it felt like it, but when I thought it through it wasn't too bad. I pigged out a bit on crackers, cheese and pickle in the evening (6 crackers worth). But then I thought, well, I didn't have any snacks at all during the day, which is unusual for me, so not too bad - I have a daily "snack allowance". I did go swimming on Tues and am planning to go again today.

I am finding as the weeks go by that I can cut out a little bit more every week, breaking it down into little steps does help.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 13/02/2015 14:42

Sounds great Buda. I don't think I would be able to stick no legumes, what you're eating sounds great, I'll bet you feel fantastic.

Who knows, crackers are not so bad occassionally, and I don't know about you but swimming always makes me ravenous. I like the idea of improving every week, Sounds doable.

I cycled to and from work yesterday, it was so feckin windy on the way home it took me an extra 15 mins. And I had got out of work late. Then ds woke at 4:30 this morning and decided it was time to get UP, whether I liked it or not. So I felt sorry for myself and had two slices of white toast. And a chocolate ricecake. Ugh. Slightly redeemed myself for lunch had poached eggs with spinach.and will have soup later on in work. I can't afford to slip up now as have friends coming over on Saturday and will be having drinks with them, so need to behave. No cycling today as Dh will be home late from work and I will have to zoom in as soon as he gets home.

TheRealMaryMillington · 13/02/2015 21:44

Another rubbish week - lurgy relay - DS1 sick Monday, DS 2 sick Weds and Thurs, my turn now. Rotten cold. Have been eating nonsense.

However, hopefully better tomorrow. Got a big work event a week on Tuesday, seeing people who I haven't for a long time, years. Want to be in good shape for that so planning to exercise every day and give the diet a 10 day blast. Green smoothies for breakfast, main meal at lunch, lighter supper (trying for no-carbs), veggie sticks for snacks.

It is half term so everything generally more relaxed, and planning to do swimming, climbing, yoga and running with the kids!

Cecyhall · 15/02/2015 21:27

I did a bit of a stupid thing today, I really wanted some pyjama bottoms in Primark but I'm too big for there just now- so I bought them anyway for inspiration. I feel like the people who buy their wedding dresses a size too small and then have to get it let out but I'm hoping that I really will get into these one day in the nearish future!

I'm in a Premier Inn so I'm going to really test my will tomorrow at breakfast time and have the healthy fruit etc.

And I got sucked into the Davina thread and bought the Dvd too!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/02/2015 08:20

I've been following that Davina thread too, but haven't succombed yet. I also have a pair of size 14 jeans stashed away in waiting.

Crap weekend, been feeling a bit down, parents getting elderly and developing health problems for both DH and I. DH took the DCs to visit his while I stayed at home to study, I lived on toast Blush. Had lost another 1/2lb on Sat though.

Cecyhall · 16/02/2015 09:43

sorry you are feeling down whoknows but well done on your loss!

I had a small bowl of muesli, some grapefruit, 2 hash browns and a spoon of beans for breakfast- this is a real step forward as usually I struggle at a buffet and can't resist eating too much!

We are going to Whole Foods market in a bit so I need to channel this energy into sticking with all the healthy green stuff and avoiding all the other amazing stuff!

BustleInYourHedgerow · 16/02/2015 11:48

Hi all. Who knows and cecy - I can't see and problem with buying something too small, its a great goal to set and its something tangible.

Sorry you are feeling down who knows. My dad is ill too and its horrible. He has been super healthy all his life - ran marathons, triathlons never smoked, rarely drank. And now he is ill, I think , why bother. But I supppose we have to try.

Terrible weekend - wine was drank, mmc Donaldson and cake was had. Going to draw a line under it and start again. Cycling to work regardless of the weather. Avoiding cake in the fridge. Oh and I am down 1.2 lbs from last week. The .2 is important! I suspect it could have been more if it weren't for massive binge at the weekend, but hey onwards and upwards.

CiderwithBuda · 16/02/2015 12:07

Hi all.

Not a great weekend here either.

Weighed on Saturday and have lost 9lbs in total since I started this cleanse. Very happy with that obviously!

We were having friends over for curry on Saturday night so I knew I would have that and wine. Also had a bacon baguette for lunch! Was desperate for something crunchy and chewy! Had curry, wine, plum crumble and ice cream. Would all have been not too bad but ended up having wine, cheese and biscuits, crisps and chocolate biscuits last night too. A bit annoyed at myself. But onwards and upwards. Back on track now again.

However, I am off to Dublin on Wednesday for a few days to see my family. Having a night out on Friday night with two of my sisters. I'm staying with my dad and he is diabetic so tends to eat quite healthily so food should not be too bad. Just not sure I can stick to the cleanse principles while I am there! So it might be a few days off and start again next week.

Sorry for those with ill parents etc. It is horrible. My mum is in a nursing home - she has dementia with Parkinson's. Last time I was home she didn't register I was even there. She just wants to go home which is heartbreaking. Her medication was reviews recently and she was taken off lots of things and apparently is much more with it now.

And the family shit I mentioned up the thread might flare up too. I have three sisters - one is bipolar and ran up massive debts including conning my dad out of quite a large sum of money and borrowing from DH and I under false pretences. Now she and her DH think none of it should be paid back as she was ill. Obv a lot of anger on all sides with my dad caught in the middle as he sees her the most. She is finally getting proper psychiatric care which was an issue before. That will all be enough to drive me to drink!

I bought the Davina workouts on iTunes. Haven't done one yet though! I completely forgot this morning. Need to download them all and watch the tutorials first. Might try one later.
