After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

One lb for each whopping great slice of cake I ate last weekend! I am back on it today and have had porridge and fruit, vegetable soup and have spiced cod and veg roasting in the oven. Have done 30min workout on the fat wobbling device too!

Well done you. I love the idea of a cleanse but I would never stick to it!

Cecyhall · 23/01/2015 19:06

Lost 4lb this week. I'm so pleased as I was so worried that I would have worked so hard and not had any result!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/01/2015 19:08

1/2lb down for me, I have been snacking too much again :(

WildFlowersAttractBees · 24/01/2015 10:25

Well done guys. I am back on it with a vengeance. Just dropped DS to swimming so off for a 5k walk home... DH took the car!

CiderwithBuda · 24/01/2015 11:13

WildFlowers - note I said contemplating! Not sure I will do it. Would like to. Paid for it so I should! It involves a lot of planning and preparation. I will read up on it later and have a think.

Enjoy your walk. I will be heading out for my walk shortly. My Fitbit is definitely making me move more.

Tracked a normal day and got to just over 6,000 steps.
Walked into town and back on Wednesday - 12,000 steps
Walked to chiropractor yesterday - 9,785.

Cecyhall - 4lbs is fab! Well done you!

WhoKnows - at least you know why. Can you add more protein to your meals? Might not feel the need to snack so much that way. And drink a big glass of water every time you feel like snacking. If you are still nibbly have something sensible.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/01/2015 11:30

It's not hunger, it's habit and liking snacky foods Blush. Sensible snacks just don't hit the spot the way a pack of crisps do. Neither does a glass of water, I agree it makes you feel more full, but it really isn't hunger that's the problem.

TheRealMaryMillington · 24/01/2015 22:14

Hello, hello, hello

Still at it, yogaing, trying to eat well, seem to look and feel a bit slimmer, but only a bit. I think I need to get a bit more serious. Just a bit. Up the exercise, make sure I run 3x per week, plus some more strength type yoga.

I quite like the idea of a 3 week cleanse/challenge, just to break a few habits. Really need to start planning and not forgetting to eat/then getting starving and finding the crisps making bad choices. Hard when there's so much else going on.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/01/2015 17:57

I've been doing a bit of thinking over the weekend about where I go wrong, it definitely is habits and just loving salty crunchy snacks for me. I've tried giving up crisps altogether in the past and it just drives me mad (same as they say about banning kids from eating sweets), so I've decided I will ban them Mon-Fri but allow them at the weekend. Same with butter, it's all very well having my cheesy oatcakes but if I smother them with butter and cheese that's adding a lot of calories. So no butter Mon-Fri either, but not totally banned.

I'm not getting so many hunger pangs though, so long as I have some (low GI) carbs I stay full for much longer than I did when I was eating bread all the time, or when I was having protein and veg only meals.

What are the rest of you doing about dairy products? (those that aren't following a vegan diet). I'm using low fat cheese spread and skimmed milk but according to a lot of people I should just stick to normal ones and cut the carbs totally.

Cecyhall · 28/01/2015 17:47

So after a really good week last week I've been terrible this week. Are you all sick of my same patterns of good progress then fuck up yet?because I bloody am.

Actually I'm struggling big style, my house is a tip, I am a tip and I feel so lonely that crisps and chocolate seem to be an easier option than actually sorting things out. Which is stupid as I was so happy and proud after my loss last week and now I'll have put it back on again.

Sorry, if I'm too negative I don't mind leaving the thread, I hate the thought of annoying people with my stupid lack of willpower and I'd tell me to get a grip if I was reading all my woe is me crap!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/01/2015 09:10

Cecy, hi, only just seen your post, no, don't leave the thread. I am similarly subject to peaks and troughs, but am hoping the thread will keep me going through the bad times. You really aren't annoying me! I'm sorry other things are getting you down, my house is often a tip too, but I am on the long running Flylady thread in Good Housekeeping which definitely helps both with the state of the house and is a great place to hang out for chat and reassurance when the going gets tough, maybe take a peek? I'm "in charge" for February.

As for me, I tried much harder this week (or so it felt) and have lost a pound. Had a significant lapse last night and ate a load of leftover fun size Mars bars from DS's birthday. And a bag of Wotsits. Other than that I have stuck to my "no crisps, no butter" regime, and only had two other portions of "bad carbs", one pasta, one white bread roll. I definitely feel better energy wise when I keep the crap carbs down. Didn't get much exercise in over the week, but managed 15,000 steps yesterday.

CiderwithBuda · 02/02/2015 10:22

Hi all.

Sorry not been around. Felt very low early last week.

Cecyhall - please don't leave. I think we are all in the same boat. I do exactly the same. Am really good and lose. Then put it all back on again. It's a bloody vicious circle. And nobody to blame but myself.

As I said I felt very low early last week. My best friend lives in Sydney and she split from her partner - she is devasted. I just wanted to jump on a plane. Add to that just feeling fed up with winter etc.
So I had three days where I just did nothing. Ate and drank though!

Booked a trip to Australia for May though which is a real incentive to shift some weight!

So I decided desperate measure are called for! Today is Day 1 of s 3 week vegan cleanse! Did my shopping at the weekend - spend a fortune in holland and Barrett! Did my fruit and veg shop yesterday. Have pre prepped some stuff. Have my meal plans and shopping lists. And I am feeling quite excited!

I need to lose weight but I also want to feel more energised. This particular "cleanse" is all worked out for you with meal plans, recipes and shopping lists. Makes it easy to follow.

DH is cooking for him and DS this week which will help.

Really hoping I can stick with it.

Hi, can I join? Been putting on and losing the same half stone for a few months now... Stuck in a rut with calorie counting and need to cut the bread biscuits and crisps out of my life. Had porridge this morning, ommelette and salad for lunch (would balsamic vinegar be ok for dressing?

Chicken in fridge so I'm going to stir fry that with a bit of ginger and garlic with broccolli and peppers for tea in work later in. Drank some water and will drink some more later on. Have had a cup of tea with milk but I can't face giving that up just yet.... And not taking change into work so am avoiding the dreaded vending machine...

CiderwithBuda · 02/02/2015 13:26

Hi Bustle. Welcome. Course you can join. Although it's gone a bit quiet as you can see!

I've low carbed on and off for a while and never given up milk in my tea. Some things are just a step too far!

Although I can't have tea at all on this cleanse! Herbal teas only.

Balsamic is a bit high in sugar but ok occassionally. Mayonnaise is better. Full fat! If I want a runnier dressing I dilute the mayo with olive oil.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/02/2015 13:32

That mayo vs balsamic thing really sums up for me how the "fat is bad" thinking is entrenched in me. I just cannot accept in my mind that mayo could be better for me than balsamic vinegar! Although salad cream is my 1st choice dressing .

Cecyhall · 02/02/2015 13:52

Oh Cider, sorry you've been feeling low- it's so difficult with friends far away, phones are good but not quite the same as being able to go for a drink and just chat face to face. Glad that you have a trip booked to look forward to though!

Thank you and Whoknows for your messages, I think a lot of my problem is the stark contrasts of bad and good in my head- if I'm being bad im being terrible and if I'm being good I'm very good. If I could find some middle ground and just be neutral, I think my head would be a lot happier! im rereading Cameron Diaz's Body Book and its helping me to remember that I have look after myself properly every single day, not just Monday to Thursday!!

I've ran today, had tofu, veg and rice for lunch and have a spicy veg stew for tea. I've also taken a delivery of storage furniture for my sons room to try and tackle the house a bit!

Welcome to you Bustle Smile

CiderwithBuda · 02/02/2015 21:42

WhoKnows - I undeestand what you mean about the balsamic/mayo thing. I used to be the same but am gradually coming round to the 'fat is ok and in some cases very good' way of thinking!

I love salad cream too. My favourite sandwich is fresh white bread with cheese, pickled beetroot and salad cream. Blush.

There is a mayo that I found thanks to BIWI's low carb threads that tastes a bit like salad cream - Delouis - Waitrose do it. Sainsburys too I think. It's nice. And lovely diluted with olive oil for a more liquidy dressing.

Cecyhall- yes to the good and bad! My DH says I'm either all or nothing with diets! And he is right. And I keep chopping and changing which diet or way of eating I am on! I have the Cameron Diaz book - must actually read it!

Day 1 of vegan cleanse complete! I survived! Feeling ok. No headaches.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Welcome to Bustlein, the more the merrier and we've been a bit quiet lately, I'd like to get chatting again. I've no intention of giving up tea (or milky coffee), I think they are very useful snack substitutes and as I don't take sugar then I think they're fine.

Cider - sorry to hear about your friend too, but glad you are going to get out there later in the year. My favourite sandwich is the same as yours but with watercress instead of beetroot, it's our local crop and I buy big bunches from the greengrocers. Thanks for the tip about the mayo, I haven't tried that one but I do like Sainsburys French one which is very tangy compared to Hellmans. I made a big bowl of coleslaw tonight with Aldi own brand mayo and very nice it was too.

Cecy - good to hear you sounding more positive. I'm a bit the same, when I'm bad I'm very bad, this weekend was DS's birthday and I have eaten two takeaways and a mountain of sweets, but I'm back to my somewhat makeshift plan today.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 02/02/2015 23:08

Thanks for the welcomes??

Sorry to hear you have been feeling bad Buda. I'm trying to think differently now - when I gave up smoking I had to rewire my thinking - any bad day, mishap or setback couldn't be an excuse to buy some cigarettes because I would end up worse than when I started. I need to think like that about my overeating - stop treating myself to crisps because someone was mean to me or I had a rough day.

Feeling quite virtous today, drinking a cup of tea and had natural yoghurt with a tablespoon of peanut butter and sliced Apple instead of the pack of crisps, biscuits and toast I would normally have. Had very sugary cravings in work tonight but it was too busy to even think about eating... There are still looots of roses and quality street left over from Christmas, grr.

Interesting about the balsamic who knows - is it sugary? I suppose it is, I really like balsamic though, I only like mayo with chips !

BustleInYourHedgerow · 03/02/2015 12:42

Ok so still on track so far today - have basically eaten the same as yesterday and will have chicken and broccoli stir fry for tea again. Tomorrow is food shopping g day so been planning my week. Weekends are normally my downfall so planning food for them in particular. I don't really drink anymore since having young children doesn't make it enjoyable so that's out the window. Have leg of lamb in the freezer for Sunday, going to have green beans and cauliflower cheese with it and will do roasties for husband and children. Husband and I will have steak on Saturday night going to do celeriac dauphinoise with that. And will do soup with rye bread for Sat lunch, might do a crustless quiche with salad for Sunday. Will do a big chilli too maybe (are kidney beans, chickpeas ok?), as I work evenings and lime to cook an extra meal or two in the weekend for lunches and work and for the children when I'm not there. And perhaps a fish pie with cauliflower cheese topping.. hmm. Oh and buying lots of greens and natural youghurt too.

CiderwithBuda · 03/02/2015 15:11

That all sounds good Bustle. Planning is key. Makes such a difference. And then sticking to the plan!

Kidney beans and chickpeas are higher in carbs than veg and I know are not allowed on Atkins or strict low carb plans. However I would probably have them. They are good carbs. It's the rubbish carbs - bread, cakes, pasta etc that I try to avoid.

I'm on day two of my cleanse. Headachey today. Trying to drink lots. Feeling good otherwise and am still motivated.

OP posts:
BustleInYourHedgerow · 04/02/2015 15:12

You can get through it Buda. I'm still feeling a bit headachey -lack of sugar I think, but it is easing.Good to know about the kidney beans and chickpeas - they are a staple in this house as they are so cheap and nutritious.

Successful shop today, bought choc rice cakes and the like for the children but I shall resist! Couldn't find rye bread though, think they used to have it in aldi but not today. Will pop to Tesco tonight after work and check.

Had porridge this morning, 2 eggs and salad with mixed leaves, peppers, tomatoes and carrots with mayo for lunch. Having chicken chickpea and chorizo stew for tea with broccoli, kale and sugar snap peas. And staying away from eveil work vending machines of course.

CiderwithBuda · 04/02/2015 21:51

Good luck resisting the vending machines!

I kept to cleanse today although had porridge instead of a green smoothie for breakfast. Still allowed food so not wrong per se.

OP posts:
BustleInYourHedgerow · 05/02/2015 12:09

Ok so had youghurt and peanut butter for snack last night when I got home, had resisted the vending machines, Wahoo! Went for lots of walks in work as it was the first sunny evening in ages. I need to get back on my bike, I usually cycle to and from work 3/4 days a week, but it's been so icy since Christmas, I'm scared of cycling when it's icy and dark.... Three days on cleanse is super good. Porridge is fab I think it's one of the best grains you can eat. Is the cleanse just juices and smoothies? For how long? It sounds really tough, but will be great to get you kick started??

BustleInYourHedgerow · 05/02/2015 12:18

Posted too soon! So today I had sourdough bread (1 slice ) with scrbled eggs and bacon, with roasted cherry toms. Dinner will be chicken, sweet potato and spincach curry with greens. Dunno about the rest yet...

TheRealMaryMillington · 05/02/2015 20:52

Had a good few days, but just ate a piece of banana loaf that DS made, I am going to allow myself to enjoy it and not beat myself up, but really I need to get a grip.

I just need to break the cycle. Am exercising, and loving it but when I am tired in the evenings I just made bad decisions. I'm in better shape and generally only having good carbs and fats, but every so often….

Bustle your dinner sounds delish.
