After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

Mary - same here, I did really well yesterday then ate some chocolate coins and two ryvita loaded up with soft cheese and pickle in the evening. Which I didn't log into MFP Blush. I have to work at the kitchen table in the evenings which doesn't help.

Are you in the area affected by the storm last night? I'm south coast of England and it's a beautiful day, I will be heading out for a walk to town in half an hour or so.

I forgot to weigh in this morning, I don't think I will have lost anything. Our scales are crap, they are the dial sort and it wobbles all over the place. We tried digital once but DH drove me mad by constantly switching it to kilos, and you didn't know which it was on till you'd switched it on and stepped on, then you had to get off, pick it up, move the switch on the back and try again. I think I might have to buy better ones though.

TheRealMaryMillington · 09/01/2015 13:52

Forced myself to go for a swim (did a mile, proud) and got wetter not he bike ride home than when I was in the pool. I'm in Liverpool, well just north, on the coast. It is proper school run weather, except all day. Horrid.

I am still dithering about getting some decent scales. I am not sure if it helps to know how much I weigh or not. I do know what I weigh needs to be less and it might be a way to track some progress. Two people who I have not seen since mid December asked me if I had lost weight today (nice lady who sells the train tickets and my kids swimming teacher) - so that is something.

Cecy a 1lb is good. Lose a lb a week and you'll be positively slinky by summer.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 09/01/2015 14:01

Not too bad thanks Mary but definitely a bit iffy!

Well done on going out in this weather. I have just been blown away on my trip to the doctors and that was me getting a space outside. I love living by the sea for around 10mths of the year!

1lb the week after new year is great... remember that is 52lbs/just short of 4 stone in a year!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/01/2015 10:25

Remembered to weigh in this morning, 1lb down on last week, which is back to where I was before Christmas and 2lb down on when we started (13st 12lb from 14st).

Did better on MFP yesterday, that is tital calories, but it wasn't terribly healthy eating (half a garlic baguette and a few forkfuls of special fried rice for dinner). 13,500 steps on the Fitbit, which was good though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/01/2015 10:25

Total not tital!

TheRealMaryMillington · 10/01/2015 12:35

Friday night. Made Curry. Ate Curry. (no muck but ate lots inc spinach paratha)
Skived yoga this morning.

DH is suggesting lunch at greasy spoon as we are mid a massive Marie Kondo inspired clear out. Today may be my 20 percent for the week. Might squeeze in a plod but its windy as Kansas.
Straight and narrow tomorrow, starting with Ashtanga at dawn.

CiderwithBuda · 12/01/2015 09:14

Hi all.

Happy Monday! Am so over January. And we are not even half way.

Crappy stressy family stuff is ongoing. And when you think it can't get any worse - it does.

So I haven't been focussed at all.

However I haven't been able to eat much so seem to have lost two pounds. Every cloud I suppose!

Attempting to restart Dry January today. Or at least Dry Monday to Thursday.

And will be sticking to good healthy foods. Might even walk down to chiropractor appointment later. It's 20 mins each way. At a fast walk. Really need to get back to doing something but struggle to get going.

All I really want to do is sit on the sofa drinking tea and eating chocolate biscuits.

Sorry to hear that you're having a tough time Cider.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/01/2015 13:30

Cider

I didn't do too well over the weekend, fairly sedentary (9000 steps in total for both days), ate too much, although perhaps not as much too much as I might have done previously .

OK so far today though, I've had the usual boiled egg on rye bread toast for breakfast, veg soup plus a bit of cheese and fruit for lunch.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 16/01/2015 08:52

Cider I hope your week has got better.

I spent all week going between feeling ill and snaffling chocolate for energy Blush. It then got even worse and I went out for the first time with a friend, she had a rotten time of it and I ended up sozzled on wine and eating cake! On the bright side I am now 24 antibiotic free and think the queasy feeling is now a hangover.

Just weighed in a measly 1/2lb off so need to seriously up my game if I want to be skinny for summer!

TheRealMaryMillington · 16/01/2015 09:04

Isn't this meant to be the most depressing week of the year or something? The weather has been so dreadful it does not inspire anything apart from comfort eating.

I have managed 3 runs and 2 lightweight yoga sessions. Loving the running now, seems to be able to go for longer and intersperse it with less walking. It helps being by the beach where it is always lovely to be. On the downside I have had a few days of eating too much and tending to binge a bit in the evenings, I think its PMT related but I've also been starving. I can't seem to break the habit. I suppose going to bed earlier would help.

Did you watch the what diet is right for me programmes? I saw the last two and I thought it was interesting. (although the production values were hilarious, all the people standing in lines, and especially the bit in the "nerve centre" with some people they had found on the street wearing white coats and looking at powerpoint displays). I'm a constant craver with feaster tendencies according to their quiz. i.e. no hope for me.

Don;t seem to be getting any work done either so I think also a general motivational thing going on for me at the moment. January, bleurggh, nearly as bad as November...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/01/2015 09:32

I've had an up and down week too. I forgot to weigh in again this morning, but not feeling too optimistic, will do it tomorrow.

I'm feeling very "rabbits in the headlights" at the moment, I'm behind with my studies, got both DCs birthday parties this month, haven't done my tax return, and to top it all someone reversed into my car yesterday so I need to get that sorted out. It's all had a knock-on effect on menu planning and cooking. I've been snacking again, crisps are my downfall, but not doing too badly on my meals.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 16/01/2015 10:08

Well I say we all start a fresh. I have just declared to DH I would like a power plate to help me exercise in the house. Has anyone else tried one?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/01/2015 10:16

After I posted I remembered I hadn't eaten yet today, so I took my jeans off and weighed myself, same as last week, which is 3lb down in total. So, feeling ok about that. And I've just had my breakfast, so I won't get the munchies when I go shopping in a minute.

I can see why Jan is such a bad time to start diets, I'm glad this thread started when it did! I do plan to keep going with this, I have definitely made improvements to what I eat and want to build on that, so yes to starting afresh.

TheRealMaryMillington · 16/01/2015 11:05

Good thinking Wild Flowers, I'm just going to say today is a clean slate and start again.

I've had a walk up the road to the greengrocers and bought some daffs and some lovely fruit (doesn't count as exercise but if I get out early in the morning it stops me from hunkering down and being pathetic about going out later), and had an almond milk & fruit smoothie for breakfast. Making Ribolita for lunches for the next few days.

It is hailing here. May not run.

Cecyhall · 16/01/2015 11:34

Starting a fresh sounds good- I haven't been eating terribly but I haven't exactly been a shining example of healthy!

I've decided that I'm going to change up my eating times a bit- having a breakfast after I've taken the kids to school and exercised and then eating lunch a bit later, hopefully to stop me wanting to snack when the kids get home, this will also help my studying as when I usually stop for lunch at 12ish I find it really hard to go back to it. I don't eat dinner til 7 so this will spread my meals out a bit more evenly rather than having breakfast and lunch close to each other and having ages til dinner.

I've ordered a punch bag too, picking it up today to get some aggression out and have a work out!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/01/2015 12:17

In the spirit of starting afresh, I just went to Sainsburys and spotted some digital scales half price (we had ancient dial ones). So I've bought those, the downside being that when I jumped on I was about half a stone heavier than on the dial ones Sad.

Cecyhall · 16/01/2015 15:41

Ah that's a bit crap for you whoknows but at least on the future weeks it'll be easier to see your losses.

I follow someone on Instagram who thought she'd lost around 100lb and was in the 200's but hadn't realised she had reached the upper limit on her scales previously, then she weighed herself at the gym (and subsequently went for a full body measure at a university) she was actually about 100lbs higher than she thought and hadn't lost as much at all, to her credit she didn't say 'fuck it' like I would and she just carried on carrying on and is now where she thought she was when she started!

TheRealMaryMillington · 16/01/2015 16:31

This is my fear of buying new scales Who Knows.

I can't decide if it is better to be ignorant. Or not

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/01/2015 16:39

they do look nicer in the bathroom .

WildFlowersAttractBees · 17/01/2015 11:34

I love my digital scales because my old ones would look the same but these ones show every 1/4lb!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/01/2015 12:20

Been on them again this morning, they said 14st 2lb, so I'm going to make that a new starting point. I was 13st 12lb on the old ones, having been 14st 7 on them in September. So I have lost 9lb since September but only 2 since November. Target is 10 stone, seems like a long way off.

Cecy - that poor woman! I did something similar at work once (scientist), it was very embarrassing.

CiderwithBuda · 19/01/2015 09:43

Morning all!

I'm back. Family shit still family shit but nothing I can do. Haven't cried since Thursday! Yay!

Weight loss took a back seat.

But I'm now back and in right frame of mind again.

Just had porridge for breakfast with almond milk, blueberries, cinnamon, flaked almonds and some maple syrup. Had to add the maple syrup as I discovered I didn't like the cinnamon addition. Made enough for tomorrow too so that is tomorrow sorted.

Lunch - not sure yet. Maybe tuna something. Or soup.

Dinner will be turkey and chorizo chilli. Might have either sweet potato wedges or brown rice with it. Will see how hungry I am.

DH is away for a couple of nights so will be easier to avoid the wine.

Whoknows - I am on about my fourth set of scales! They keep going funny. Have ww digital ones now. Weighed this morning - am back up at 15 st 13.

I would love to be 10 st 7 but can't imagine it! Initial target is 14 st 7. Sounds a bit random but the lowest I have gotten to over last few years is 14 st 10.. So I want to get a few pounds under that.

Feeling quite motivated today. Long may it last!

Cecyhall · 19/01/2015 09:59

Glad you are motivated Cider, and sorry about your family stuff.

Announcement- I have today worked out for the first time in ages. Only 20 mins with a combo of punchbag and a makeshift bleep test type thing up and down my hallway but I feel great!

Houmous and salad for lunch and a veg curry for tea (which I might add a couple of fake sausages too as I thought I had a tin of chickpeas in the cupboard but it's not there).

Have a good day everyone! I'm hitting the books now (so expect to see me around MN in approx 15 mins I expect) Smile

MixenLane · 19/01/2015 16:54

Hello everyone. I was on the thread before Christmas and intend to get back to lower carb/healthier eating by the end of this week. I haven't had time yet to catch up on the thread.
Have been on holiday for a month in South Africa. Ate very well, drank too much Blush but only gained 2lbs while I was away. Haven't yet got back into my usual routine at home. I'm out at two big events tomorrow and Wednesday night, so back on this WOE by Friday.
