After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

Please join!

Glad everyone is getting back into it.

Fresh start today (due to the copious amounts of wine, cheese and cake I consumed over the weekend!).

Missed breakfast due to a stinking hangover so went for a cuppa with a friend and had a latte instead. One slice of toasted rye bread and chicken salad for lunch then hairy dieters spanish chicken bake for dinner and filled my water intake for the day.

TheRealMaryMillington · 19/01/2015 22:29

Saturday was a pmt-fuelled exercise-sodding carb-frenzied disaster. Involving pasta. And crisps. But that was only to be expected.

Calmed myself down again for Saturday, did some proper cooking, did an Ashtanga class and yoga workshop, walked, cycled. All good. More of same today.

Might get some digital scales after payday. I like Cider's idea of setting a goal a few lbs under my most recent lowest weight.

TheRealMaryMillington · 19/01/2015 22:29

Need to up the water too

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/01/2015 23:20

Saturday was a disaster here too, DD's birthday party and much pizza, cake, sweets and crisps were consumed. Very little exercise either.

However today I have eaten much more healthily, been for a swim, been to ballet class and managed my 10,000 steps. I also read an inspiring article by the Hairy Bikers. I think I need to read inspirational stores of weight loss on a regular basis.

Welcome back Mixen Smile.

CiderwithBuda · 19/01/2015 23:40
Blush

Chicolate digestives. I had four. Blush. And some shortbread. Blush

Why? Why did I do that? Sigh.

Food was good otherwise though and I didn't have any wine.

Need to up water too. And exercise. Am paying a gym membership but never go. Am going to book a few classes. I will start by going for a walk tomorrow. Will hunt out my pedometer although am very tempted d by a Fitbit.

Night all. I'm in bed and trying to ignore my rumbling tummy.

Cecyhall · 20/01/2015 09:48

Just done day 1 of couch to 5k. Food is much the same as yesterday today but swapping out the houmous for falafel.

I feel fucking awesome for the first time in a long time. I hope that feeling continues!!

CiderwithBuda · 20/01/2015 11:33

Go you with your awesomeness Cecyhall! Grin

I got to week 7 of couch to 5k over a year ago But my knees didn't like it. Want to lose about 3 stone before starting again. I loved it. Never thought I would ever be able to run 25 mins but I did.

Remembered go hunt out pedometer this morning. It was an old Ww one. It's crap. So I'm off to buy myself a Fitbit.

I'm also going to book myself into some classes at the gym and arrange a weekly gym meet with a friend and also chatted to another friend about going walking.

I'm even planning a bikini and leg wax so I can do Aqua aerobics!

Have had my porridge but am hungry again so am now having a green smoothie.

Lunch will be German style rye bread with egg mayo and chopped tomatoes and avocado.

Afternoon snack will be a kiwi fruit and a natural yoghurt.

Dinner will be Cajun chicken with stir fried kale, red onion and a red pepper.

My aim is to feel awesome by the end if the week. Grin

Clearly I am the same as you lot and think I can buy myself slim... One vibrating fat shoogling machine ordered! Wink

TheRealMaryMillington · 20/01/2015 18:09

Busy work day, Ate not much but then succumbed to packet of hula hoops on the way home. Early night I think

Working from home for the end of the week, so hoping to get some plods in and some yoga and cook some good things (whilst simultaneously being fabulously productive).

Cider - what is your green smoothie. Have you got a nutribullet?

Welcome back Mixen, I hope we can all keep this going.

CiderwithBuda · 20/01/2015 18:32

TheRealMary - no nutribullet - I was just using the blender attachment on my food processor but DH got me a Breville smoothie maker for xmas - you put everything in the sports bottle it comes with and blend it. It was easier than the big blender. I put in a handful of kale, a cup of almond milk, a scoop of hemp protein powder and a container of M&S chopped tropical fruit.

CiderwithBuda · 20/01/2015 18:57

Oh I see your vibrating machine and raise you a Fitbit WildFlowers!

Haven't done anything active yet though!

Tomorrow. I have quite a bit of stuff to do around the house and I'm going for a walk. Will be interesting to see how many steps. I'm sure even with the walk it won't be 10,000. I spend far too long sitting on my butt on here.

OP posts:
Cecyhall · 20/01/2015 19:35

Yes, I was so disappointed with how few steps I took when I got my Fitbit, even on a big walk around Bluewater one day I'd only managed 9000 odd, I had achy feet and was tired and yet I still wasn't at the amount I should be doing every single day! Most days I hit about 5000 ish, which isn't great.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/01/2015 20:03

I'm very variable with the Fitbit, some days I don't get anywhere near (weekends when I possibly only go out in the car) but weekdays are usually OK because I get 3000 on the school runs and try and walk the DCs to most of their after school activities. I also try and walk at lunchtime on my work days. I'm on 8280 so far today, might have to pop out again later.

I may not be eating perfectly at the moment but I am feeling very positive, I look slimmer (perhaps less bloated with fewer carbs), have found some food swaps that I really enjoy and generally think I'm heading in the right direction. I bought myself some lovely satin ballet shoes today for my ballet class, I've always hankered after some, never thought I'd get my first pair aged 47!

C25K - I did it about three years ago and really enjoyed it. I would like to do it again, but not till I've shifted some weight. I have a precautionary tale for you all which is to be very careful with your pelvic floors if you are running and overweight. I had mild prolapses following birth of my DCs (11 and 9 years ago), which I ignored for years. Took up running and it all went south, I ended up having to have surgery. So please ladies, do your pelvic floor exercises! I will do it again one day, but will probably never be able to do more than 5km of slow jogging safely now.

TheRealMaryMillington · 20/01/2015 21:20

What a brilliantly positive post Who Knows!

It's great to be feeling the impact of your efforts.

I really need to keep my eye on the carbs, I am finding them creeping back in when I am not vigilant or if I don't plan properly. Can you share any of your food swaps?

That sounds very scary about the prolapses! I'm hoping all the bandha locking in yoga will have helped my pelvic floor. I think I like running : )

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/01/2015 21:33

Food swaps:

Breakfast was granola, now toasted rye bread with a bit of soft cheese, marmite and a boiled egg.

Lunch was sandwiches or salad or soup, sandwiches were supermarket ones about once a week, now have the packs of sushi. Soup - I have ditched the croutons in favour of a bit of grated cheese.

Salads are supplemented by Nairn cheesey oatcakes and mainly fish for protein instead of cheese (tuna, smoked mackerel etc). Also, using packs of precooked green lentils, stir through lime juice, chopped coriander and sweet chilli sauce, add prawns or smoked salmon trimmings.

I'm having beef jerky as snacks, also the Nairns cheesey oatcakes, love those. Can't take credit fir all these ideas, many were earlier on this thread or Megglevache's original one.

Oh, I'm also going to try a thin one-egg omelette in place of tortilla wraps next time we have a wrap tyoe meal.

I'm not saying don't run BTW, just make sure you strengthen core/PF at the same time!

WildFlowersAttractBees · 20/01/2015 22:48

After buying the fat shaking machine I think DH would he a bit Hmm about a fitbit... will need to pull out my WW pedometer too!

I am just hoping this gives me the kickstart to feel more confident going out to exercise.

Cecyhall · 21/01/2015 09:58

Third workout day in a row. Tomorrow is going to be the test though as ds2 isn't in nursery so I'll have to do an evening workout which won't be as fun! I'm having a rest day Friday and a big walk over one of the weekend days.

Food today- lunch= Big salad, Warburtons thin with vegan cream cheese and a sneaky packet of 'better for you' crisps (which I realise are not healthy carbs but it's a little treat as I'm taking DS to the bakery for lunch)
Dinner= fake chicken goujons with new potatoes and tons of veg. A coyo yogurt for pudding.

TheRealMaryMillington · 21/01/2015 11:18

Well done Cecy!

How's veganuary going for you? For me, not so well - I've had the odd egg, and a bit of butter by mistake. I'm not going to beat myself up about it but I'm just going to slowly edge myself back to vegan over time. With aiming to lose weight and run I've got enough challenges. I love those co-yo yoghurts but they are really expensive. Rare treat I think.

I had the all to rare opportunity for a lie- in this morning so did that instead of a morning run, feel a bit bad now but am going to yoga in a bit and again this evening (I guess I could run there?)

Is a fitbit good? I was thinking about one of those fancy running watches that track your distance and all that but again £££ so has to take its place on the list behind a new sports bra and decent tights

WildFlowersAttractBees · 21/01/2015 11:33

It's here!!! I am going to take DD to nursery then try it out.

Fruit for breakfast as on the run as always. Chicken and brown rice soup made for lunch then red chilli, green bean and chicken stirfry for dinner. Will do a weekly meal plan tonight too.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/01/2015 11:59

I can do all the distance logging on my phone if I need to, but like having the fitbit, mines the clip on type, I wear it on my bra so it's not on show or in the way. I bought it partly with Nectar points from Argos.

SoonToBeMrsB · 21/01/2015 18:20

Right, I'm checking in here for the first time in weeks because the nasty carbs and chocolate are creeping back into my meals and I feel like a bag of crap. I'm tired, sluggish and have no motivation for exercise at all.

I'm trying to monitor my intake with Weight Watchers but I'm eating white carbs and going over my allowance every day with sneaky little treats Sad

I start every day with such good intentions, I'm getting so frustrated that I'm so addicted to sugar!

CiderwithBuda · 22/01/2015 10:14

Morning all.

Didn't go for a walk yesterday in the end - forgot had some guys coming to do stuff in the garden so needed to stay home and it was grim and grey and wet and miserable. So used my Fitbit to see what a normal day is. Got to over 6,000 steps which is more than I expected.

Need to get DS some new swimming goggles today. Trying to decide whether to walk into town and back or go to the gym and get them then.

Food yesterday was ok.

Bfast was German style rye bread with two poached eggs
Lunch was chopped Cajun chicken salad with spinach, cherry tomatoes, pepper, and avocado with a dressing made with mayo and olive oil.
I have been having a slice of xmas cake after lunch although I'm not eating the icing.
Snack was a Nakd cashew bar
Dinner was beef casserole, mashed potatoes and butter beans.
Also had wine and cheese and biscuits.

Actually food wasn't that good! Crackers and mash and xmas cake! And wine!
Oh well.

SoontobeMrsB - welcome back.

The sugar thing is hard. I did well on WW a few years ago but am not so keen on it now as they push sugar so much with all the bars etc they sell.

I find the more sugar I have the more I want.

OP posts:
WildFlowersAttractBees · 23/01/2015 08:30

I gained 2lbs!!! Blush

CiderwithBuda · 23/01/2015 12:45

No! Ouch. Any ideas why?

I think I lost three over the last couple of weeks so I'm fairly pleased. Food has been ok but not brilliant so I'm thinking it's actually a good way to keep on. I'm not too obsessed but it all but I'm generally eating well and yet still having some treats. It feels sustainable.

Having said that I'm contemplating doing a three week vegan cleanse in February!
