SLIMMING WORLD - WE CAN DO IT - NEW THREAD

Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind but thought I'd take the opportunity of starting a new thread as the other one is huge!

So how is everyone getting on? Are you getting through the weekend okay without too many temptations?

I have had a very successful first two days back on the Slimming World Plan. It's surprising how much I remember about it and I haven't been to group for 6+ months. I arranged to go to group with Surfermum this time round. She definately inspired me to get back onto it. She has done so well and her weight loss is really noticeable - she looks great!
When the evening came to go to group I will say that, although I knew that I must lose weight, my motivation wasn't 100% there. Now I have got my shopping in and have started writing out my food diary I am really enjoying it. DH made himself a proper greasy fry up yesterday morning - the works! And I found the willpower to say no - to be honest the smell of the grease was enough to put me off anyway.
Found the new Mullerlight yogs yesterday - they have loads of new ones now don't they? I tried the sticky toffee pudding one - yum!

Thanks SMoon we love garlic dip so I'll get some quark then.
Beth yes I think use 6 syns as he!
loobysmum the curry in this months magazine is lovely I substitute sp? prawns for chicken (which I have as a HE) then I eat with boiled rice.
Bighotmama can you post your veg stew recipe- mine are always rubbish

The trouble with other cereals is that you can only have 28g which is about 1/8 of what I'd normally have, so weetabix feels like so much more iyswim.

BethAndHerBrood · 29/11/2006 18:09

Thanks xena, I'm really looking forward to my tea - jacket potato, beans, cheddar and broccoli escalope and maybe a quorn sausage or two, if I'm feeling hungy!! I bought some low fat cheese as well, so I might have a grating of that over my spud.

I wish DH would hurry up and get home!!

loobysmum · 29/11/2006 21:10

Hello and thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Thanks for the tip about the macaroni Lurcherlass. Is that the pasta'n'sauce one? So, gone are the halcyon days of tinned macaroni then! (And I never thought I'd say THAT! ) Udder, have made the bean chilli recipe you posted for dinner tonight and sneaked a taste while cooking - its lovely! Really looking forward to my dinner now. Also doing a veg stew for the freezer and making a SW quiche for lunches ... and if that makes me sound like some sort of bare-footed earth mother, trust me, I'm not. Just trying to get it done while the enthusiasm is still coursing through my veins!

Xena thanks for the info about the curry. Haven't got the most recent mag yet. Hopefully tomorrow. I love prawns, so will certainly be trying that.

lurcherlass · 29/11/2006 21:49

Yeh, like you bendyB i tend to stick to 2 weetabix, as it's so easy to plop them into the bowl. I fancy a change now, so I'm going to try 28g kellogs all bran flakes yogurty. I'll have plump them out with a chopped banana, like Xena says, 28g looks a bit stingy!! I guess it might be worth spending 5 syns on another 28g, although I'd probably rather spend syns on chocolate!!!

hi

Another half pound for me lastnight. That was over the course of 2 weeks though, as I hadn't been last week, and usually when I missed a week @ ww I would gain.. so am really pleased. MIL is pleased as punch, she has lost 9lb in 4 weeks!!!!! I have lost 9.5lb but it has taken me about 9 weeks to do so... I lose weight slowly, always have

I cannot believe how many members of our group have lost 4/5/6 stone... it's so inspiring, and everyone is lovely. Although there were 3 members joined last week, & they had gained weight this week.. I felt sorry for them, one girl looked like she was gunna cry.. but it takes a whilr to get used to. I think I'm going to try & do this week like I did my first week & see if I can't get a big weight loss next week

Well done everyone!!!!

ledodgychristmasjumper · 30/11/2006 10:07

ARGH I put on a pound but i'm not suprised considering the weekend I had and it's given me the kick up the bum I needed. I've already done my exercise dvd this morning and i'm going to be really good this week I intend to lose at least 3 pounds!

xena · 30/11/2006 10:33

firefly, I'm sure that it is easier to keep off the longer it takes you IYSWIM so keep going
Am scared to weigh in today ledodgy and were going away for the weekend which I always find difficult.

BethAndHerBrood · 30/11/2006 14:33

I lost 0.5lb this week. I'm not sure wether to be happy or sad! I think I will have to really put my nose to the grindstone this week, I am aiming for a big loss this week![brave words emoticon]!!

Well done to those who have lost, and those who haven't, join me at the grindstone!!!

BethAndHerBrood · 30/11/2006 14:36

ledodgy, what exercise dvd do you do, and do you think it helps?

supermumintraining · 30/11/2006 18:17

its great when you lose weight, but so frustrating when it seems to inch off. I have been taking measurements (bust, waist, hips, arms and thighs) make sure you have some wine ready as these can be depressing. On the other hand, just by losing a few pounds, you can lose several inches off parts of our body.
Lets face it, no know really knows or looks at our weight, they are looking at our size.

lurcherlass · 30/11/2006 18:41

Firefly, take heart, you're not the only one who loses weigh slowly. It has taken me 3 1/2 months to lose 15lbs, but I could put 3lbs on in a day if I let myself go!! All the other girls say slow and steady wins the race and we are not so likely to put it back- I hope that is true!

Rooicosta · 30/11/2006 19:45

Stayed the same this week. Hardly suprising though considering how much wine I have drunk!!!

Wine is definetly my downfall. I stick to the plan rigidly through the day...then the wine comes out...then the nibbles!!

What's everyone else's biggest downfall?

Roo x

BethAndHerBrood · 30/11/2006 19:55

My biggest downfall used to be wine too, but then I got pg, so knocked it on the head. It's amazing how much more you can eat when you don't drink five bottles of wine a week!! I am still off it as I am b/feeding, so have found solace in biscuits and chocolate

I find I am better if I don't have any, if I have one choccie biscuit I just want more. If I don't have any I don't miss it. I used to be the same with the wine, could never have "just one glass"!!!

Rooicosta · 30/11/2006 20:08

That is soooo me! If I have none, I'm fine. If I have one, I have to have the bottle!

Everyone keeps telling me that I could eat so much more if I didn't drink but I find that hard to believe. Sometimes, I think drinking actually keeps my weight down (I always look lighter on the scales the following morning lol! Maybe, that's the dehydration!)

Any and ALL advice welcome!

BethAndHerBrood · 30/11/2006 20:13

Get pregnant!!!

Rooicosta · 30/11/2006 20:18

Don't think I'm quite ready yet though have though about it!!!!

AND I had 4 rich tea biscuits............ whoops.. will have to walk miles tomorrow to make upfor it.. piggy!!

lurcherlass · 01/12/2006 14:16

thanks for the suggestion worksforaliving, I'll certainly get some to try. Like the sound of anything that's more than a spoonful in the bottom of the bowl, which, as my Nan says "would make a fool of your mouth". My donwfall at the moment is biscuits, I havent bought any coz I know I couldnt stop at one...

supermumintraining · 01/12/2006 16:17

just been for lunch with friends. DISASTER. eaten buffalo wings, nachos and then chickens fajitas with cheese and sour cream.
Feel sick, dont know if its because I have eaten too much or guilt.

lurcherlass · 01/12/2006 18:26

Don't worry strawberry, we all need to indulge from time to time to stop ourselves throwing in the towell. Just get back on the diet tomorrow and don't waste another minute stressing over what sounds like a delicious lunch with your freinds!! Talking of nachos and all the mexican stuff, here's a challenge for everyone. I bought a tin of refried beans coz they are free on green.I still havent opened them cos I havent got a clue what to do with them! I am apppealing for exciting ideas, anyone??

frenchmummytiger · 01/12/2006 18:43

Really amazed this week.... lost 2lbs despite having had a pizza, chicken chow mein and cheesecake over the weekend !!!! Only 2 stone to go !!

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 01/12/2006 18:59

Yum!!! Your lunch sounds delicious!!!! I'd have loved that for lunch!!

If anyone is near a Tesco they have mugshots in, 3 for £1. The chicken, chowmein, & tomato and herb ones are free on green, I had the chowmein one today & it was delicious!!!! Just like a tasty pot noodle!

Does anyone know how many syns are in mallows? I can't seem to find them.. I got them in a pack from Lidl. Not sure if SW have Lidl in their online syns bit

Rooicosta · 01/12/2006 20:14

Lurcherlass - I know what you mean about biscuits! There is no way I could ever have just one...or two...okay, not even four!!! The hardest part is that two of my accounts (I'm an Account Manager - not in the finanial sense/ Sales Rep) are well known biscuit companies who manufacture Cadbury Fingers, Jammy Dodgers, Wagon Wheels, Luxury Cookies, Party Rings, Cream Fingers etc, etc, who I get loads of freebies from!!!! Imagine coming home with a carrier bag of biccies every week - I have to give MOST of them away. Imagine my heart-break!!!!! LOL!

By the way Supermum - Mexican food is my favourite of all time, I am sooooo jealous!
