SLIMMING WORLD - WE CAN DO IT - NEW THREAD

Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind but thought I'd take the opportunity of starting a new thread as the other one is huge!

So how is everyone getting on? Are you getting through the weekend okay without too many temptations?

I have had a very successful first two days back on the Slimming World Plan. It's surprising how much I remember about it and I haven't been to group for 6+ months. I arranged to go to group with Surfermum this time round. She definately inspired me to get back onto it. She has done so well and her weight loss is really noticeable - she looks great!
When the evening came to go to group I will say that, although I knew that I must lose weight, my motivation wasn't 100% there. Now I have got my shopping in and have started writing out my food diary I am really enjoying it. DH made himself a proper greasy fry up yesterday morning - the works! And I found the willpower to say no - to be honest the smell of the grease was enough to put me off anyway.
Found the new Mullerlight yogs yesterday - they have loads of new ones now don't they? I tried the sticky toffee pudding one - yum!

hi there,
hope its ok to join this thread..
i lost 4 stone with SW before dd who is now 14 weeks. got back on plan when she was about 8 weeks and took off 7lbs in 2 weeks. then got a bit smug and put on 1 1/2 lbs over next 4 weeks. got back on track 2 weeks ago but stayed same last week and this week have put on another 1/2, but woke up this morning to find the return of my period. (hurrah! can have more babies!!!) is this why i didn't lose last week and put on this week? don't remember what happened when was losing before dd. why would you put on weight with your period?

sorry for long first post but am seeking support for keeping on. thanks

Hi > I hope I can join this thred too. I started by joining the other one at the weekend but no-one seems to use it and I was hoping for a few laughs to keep me going.
I actually need to lose half a stone less than I thought, so that's only 5 now - yipee! Had a really good day on monday and, typically, blew it yesterday.
Back to it tomorrow...

lurcherlass · 01/11/2006 15:37

Welcome to the ladies new to this thread! I'm sure you'll do well. I took myself and my 2 dogs down to the vets today, one of them is on a little diet, so we take it in turns to hop on the scales. Since I stopped snacking on bickies, her weight has gone down too! She does get to lick the top of the Mullerlight pot tho! I have lost another 1 1/2 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm pleased with that, tho it dosent seem like much. For the first time on my life I'm not starving, I'm not yo-yoing and I'm not impatient to lose a stone in a week (as with all the daft diets I did in the past). On the way home, I decided to try and jog a bit, all wobbling and looking like a ribena berry. But my 2 dogs thought it was part of some new, mad game and kept jumping up to nip my bum, so I gave that up as a bad job!

StrawberryMoon · 01/11/2006 16:03

you really make me laugh Lurcherlass!

and well done with the 1 1/2lb..thats fab!

keep picturing a very hot flusterd woman jiggling down road with two dogs biting her bot to make her run faster nowLOL

lurcherlass · 01/11/2006 22:41

Yep! that's me!xx

lurcherlass · 02/11/2006 11:54

I just hope no-one was filming me, or you'll all see me on "You've been framed!". Perhaps Slimming world will use the clip in a "before" and "after" advert! Just had a nice lunch, Quorn tikka peices with Tesco pilau rice in a sachet. Whole thing just 1 syn on green Yummee!

StrawberryMoon · 02/11/2006 12:52

LOL

i cant get away with quorn..used to eat the quorn mince but always knew when it wasnt mince mince and may as well not made anything with it cos it put me off the meal..im gunna try bowyers sausages this weekend tho, used to like them and also useed to get some delivered from a butcher in northallerton who used to make them very low sin esp for us S.W girls!..they were big fat yummy and only 0.5 / 1 sin each!

BethAndHerBrood · 02/11/2006 12:56

Hi everyone. i've been to class this morning. Lost a pound Then came home starving and had my favourite green lunch - a packet of smokey bacon noodles mixed with a tin of mushy peas!! Sounds disgusting but i love it!!!

And I can fit in trousers I've never been able to get on before, even though I'm not the lightest I've ever been!! Weird!!

StrawberryMoon · 02/11/2006 13:04

well done bethandherbrood..have you been dong it long?

today i felt ill again but when i got back from picking dd up i made a big plate of sw chips and had a sall dollop of mayo, slice of w/meal bread and low fat spread..i wouldnt normally use sins on butter and mayo but really wanted them as not been eating so..was lovely and am stuffed now

might have some more with mushy peas for tea

worksforaliving · 02/11/2006 19:28

feeling like a ball of stogde still, due to star week. still don't get that, but anyway, have had a good red day today. cereal with low fat yoghurt for brekkie, ham and cottage cheese sarnie for lunch - loads of filling but only 40g bread - and some very lean cumberland sausages on the stove cooking slowly for my dinner. can i have a spoonful of mash with them for a HE?
do you get 3 or 4 HE while b/fing?
cheers all.

StrawberryMoon · 02/11/2006 19:31

you can have 4 all the time now i think??..sossys sound luverly

worksforaliving · 02/11/2006 20:17

mmm, eating them now- v delicious.
is that 4 in total or 4 a's or 4 b? do you know?
thanks strawberry

BethAndHerBrood · 02/11/2006 20:26

Mash isn't a HE though, you need the skin from the spuds for the fibre.

But......mash is lovely!!!

Rooicosta · 02/11/2006 20:41

I think you get double the amount of healthy extra's when you b/feed - so that would be 4a's and 4b's. Bethandherbrood is right though, you can only have potatoes on a red day if they have the skin on.

Worksforaliving - it's possible to put on around 3 to 5lb just before and during your period as your body stores excess water (hence feeling totally bloated)! You should lose this though at the end or in the last couple of days of your period Hope this helps.

Congrats to everyone on your losses and keep up the good work!

BethAndHerBrood · 02/11/2006 20:48

The number of extra HE's depends on the age of the baby, IIRC. It's not as much as doubling it though, it's only 1 or 2 extra, and they're supposed to be A choices for the calcium. I've just looked on the website but couldn't find anything about it. I'm b/feeding too, but obviously not taking too much notice of the rules!!

worksforaliving · 02/11/2006 20:50

thanks for that roo. 4 a's and 4 b's seems like a lot. i'm not eating nearly that and am not losing yet. maybe something to do with this being my first period since the birth..?
and i do feel really bloated which i never used to before being pg.
can only get to class about once a month at the mo, cos it falls right in dd's nap time and lugging her out to oxford street seems a bit harsh.
anyway, 4a's and 4 b's it is. will keep pressing on till next week and see what happens.
thanks for the chat. it really helps.

StrawberryMoon · 03/11/2006 10:02

hiya sorry dont know what applys if your breast feeding?..but normally is 2a and 2b..i doubt they would deny you the extra a's tbh!

lurcherlass · 03/11/2006 13:15

Just had a scrummy lunch, a sachet of Uncle Bens golden vegetable rice with 2 ozs of prawns stirred in before serving. All for 4 syns on Green...yummee

Rooicosta · 03/11/2006 18:39

Worksforaliving:

Just found out from the SW baby advice booklet:
If your baby is:
Up to 2 months - 3 HE
2-3 months - 4 HE
4-6 months - 3 HE (if starting to wean)
4-6 months - 4 HE (if bf is the only source of food)
over 6m when weaning - 1 HE

The above are in addition to the usual daily allowance of two HEA & HEB.

The booklet also recommends that you have 15 syns a day, and that 2 of the additional HE are taken from the milk/cheese section.

Sorry for guessing before but at least now we know!

worksforaliving · 04/11/2006 11:13

thanks very much Roo,
am i right in reading that as a total of 6 HEs A and 6 HE Bs each day? sounds like a lot..
weighed in this am and have added 2lbs last week. but have been eating within the program - 3 HE's A and B a day and about 100 syns per week (av 15 a day).
my MIL suggested that weight gain may be due to 1) star week and/or
2)i'm not eating enough- and that unless you eat enough on SW your body can go into starvation mode and hang on to food so you put weight on. my consultant has also said this to me in the past but not sure i ever believed it...hmmm what do you think Roo?
anyone else had this kind of experience?
i'm going to keep going. tbh, ihave to lose the weight and have lost very successfully with SW in the past so know it works but just not sure whats happening right now.
be grateful for all advice,
thanks,
Works xx

worksforaliving · 04/11/2006 23:49

sorry, have re read posts. 4 HEAs and 4 HEbs yes?
honestly. young-baby brain plus period perception makes me a bit slow to catch on.
red day today. more sausages!! MIL found a butcher somewhere who is on the SW program and has developed syn free beef sausages for himself and members of his group, so had to try some.
hope you all have a good weekend.

Rooicosta · 05/11/2006 18:11

Hi Works
If you go by the list depending on what stage you are, it would work out as follows:
1HE in addition to standard HE's would be 3a's and 2b's.
3HE's extra would be (4a's and 3b's)
4HE's extra would be (4a's and 4b's). This is because at least 2 of the additional HE's has to be from the 'a' section. Hope this makes sense!

Yes, the gain could be to do with your star week as it is possible to gain anywhere between 2 and 5lbs during your period as your body retains more water (I usually gain 3lbs). You should lose this again afterwards though. Drink plenty of water as this triggers your body to release what it's holding on to.

I also agree with your consultant about not eating enough. If you don't eat enough your body holds onto any fat it has instead of burning it, cos it doesn't know when it's next going to get food. This is why it's important to never skip breakfast and never go more than 3 hours without food. This way, your body gets used to having something and therefore starts to use your fat for fuel instead of muscle. This is what improves your metabolism: the more muscle you have the more you burn, hence if your body is burning the muscle, the more fat you are likely to have!

Sorry if I have just bored everyone with that but the body is an amazing thing really and understanding how it uses food, helps us with our goal!

worksforaliving · 05/11/2006 21:04

not at all bored. good to be reminded that we need to eat! one of the best bits about SW IMO...
another red day today. cereal, big roast for lunch and even a little portion of spotted dick for pud. mmmm.
going to make some broccoli soup now to have for the week.
dd is 3 1/2 months and fully b/f so think i am on 4 a's and 4 b's. Hurrah!!
have a good week all.

Roo, when is your weigh in day?
