I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Lots of homemade soups here as well. Today I chucked some fennel, garlic, chick peas, celery and onion in a pan with a low sodium vegetable stock cube and simmered it for twenty minutes then blended it so it was still chunky - the chick peas were all at the bottom so I made two soups in effect as the first one had no chick peas. 160 cal a portion.

The other day I did butternut squash, fennel, garlic, 4 red chillies, celery and leeks and blended it all after simmering, about 250-300 calories I think. It was lovely :)

I had the fennel one for lunch today (with a bread roll) and then home made spaghetti bolognese, I was going to have 1/2 a portion but had a whole portion as MFP said I'd not had enough calories.

I've ditched the porridge for breakfast, I had two egg yolks soft boiled (I hate egg white) with wholemeal bread. That kept me going until lunch.

I'm hoping for a good loss this week, well a pound anyway, as I've only gone over calories once when I was being a pig

WhenDoISleep · 19/01/2014 08:02

I have decided to log my weight here on Sunday instead of Monday as that ties in with my WW Online weigh in day and will stop me bing confused.

Start weight: 13st 13lbs
Today: 13st 8.75lbs
Loss: 4.25lbs
Week: 2

Good week with just over 3lbs lost; I tracked everything I ate and it kept me on track. I'm also pleased that I increased my water intake quite a bit, going from barely anything to several large glasses a day. One thing I'm not so pleased about is the coffee habit (just one cup a day) that I broke last Autumn seems to have reemerged this week - am determined to stop this again this coming week.

BronzeHorseman · 19/01/2014 09:24

Well done WellDoISleep, that's great. I've moved my weigh in day to a Sunday as well, I lost 1.4lb this week so I've gone from 260lbs to to 247.8lbs so just over 12lbs. My BMI has gone from 39.5 to 37.6 since I started on the 27th Dec.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 19/01/2014 13:42

Those having soups for lunches have you considered ramen with lean protein? Its very easy to do and very filling.

I use either a low sodium stock cube or a sachet of miso soup (42cals), one portion of fine egg noodles, a large handful of veg (finely sliced savoy cabbage, green beans, leek, sugar snap peas or mange tout) and a portion of lean protein such as sliced chicken breast, salmon fittet or a frozen haddock fillet poached in the liquid. I don't really enjoy eating bread so use rhe noodles as my carb base - without carbs my milk supply disappears.

Other good news is that DH has also got on board and i think viewing this as a competition!

BronzeHorseman · 19/01/2014 15:54

Ramen noodles are high in sodium aren't they? I'm sure I read recently about them being bad for blood pressure. One thing I am trying to achieve as well is cutting my salt intake, it seems quite high sometimes so I'm mindful of that and have had to go cold turkey from my marmite addiction :(

BigWellyLittleWelly · 19/01/2014 17:35

I use fine egg noodles, not true ramen noodles. Besides something that I have learnt is everything in moderation, we need salt for our bodes to be healthy, just like we need fats, and for now I need carbohydrates - without them my milk supply vanishes.

I'm happy with that we were visiting friends so more challenging to stick to calories allowed but I did . Need to remember slow off = stay off

I'm very happy to have got to the stone mark! But I know I still have a long weigh to go and the weight loss is going to slow down soon. 5:2 seems to be working really well for me. I've had plenty of big meals this week and I've still had a good loss.

Slow and steady! Am really, really happy that I've nearly managed a month without getting discouraged and start eating again - I think thats the longest I've ever done, I want this to become a way of life.

I totally blew it last week on Monday with a gigantic Chinese takeaway and was playing catch-up all week. Not good for the motivation!

One of my friends is trying to cut sugar out of her diet - after all the negative publicity sugar is getting at the moment I thought I might give it a go for lent. My sweet tooth is definitely my downfall. When the kids were weaned we cut out all the salt from family meals and my taste buds have completely readjusted, I find a lot of food in restaurants to be really salty - it would be great if I could do the same with sugar, a little would go a long way.

Has anyone tried this? I'd be interested in other people's experiences.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 20/01/2014 09:35

Oh and well done on all the losses!

HugAndRoll · 20/01/2014 12:22

fowl sugar chocolate is my biggest downfall. I've been told by my dr to cut out coffee (have to wean myself off, he said not to quit cold turkey). I will then do the same with sugary things. I'm going to need a lot of support and hand holding then Grin.

WoodBurnerBabe · 20/01/2014 12:25

fowl we cut out salt as well after DH was diagnosed with high blood pressure (before we had kids). I can't eat a lot of processed stuff now, it's just way too salty. Supermarket bread especially...

hug we will all be here to hold your hand while you wean yourself off!

PuggyMum · 20/01/2014 12:49

Stayed the same again. Am a little gutted but I am back at the gym in earnest now and a pair of jeans I bought after Xmas are hanging off me!

Got lazy logging on mfp so need to get back on track there!

TalkinPeace · 20/01/2014 12:53

lots of people doing really well, and starting to think long term about how, why and what they eat. Splendid.

BigWellyLittleWelly · 20/01/2014 13:16

woodburnerbabe weve lost the same ans I also have managed to stay on track for a month despite some very challenging events. I feel this is more of a long term solution as well, I must up my water intake though, I usually drink very weak sugar free squash all day or tea. Usually two strong coffees in the morning.

Is there anyone else whose partners are also logging on MFP determined to lose a few stone?

I decided quite early on to make only one change a month.

January was portion control and learning to log on MFP
February will be improving hydration
March and April will be dealing with my sugar habit
May onwards will be getting into regular exercise

Reason for doing it in this order is because dd2 is a terrible terrible sleeper and I know if I try to deal with my sugar habit before she is sleeping better I will just move onto snacking on something else. Hopefully by April I will be able to get into my sports gear and the weather will also be better. Currently I'm banned from exercise until I have a pelvic scan to check my section scar.

Dinner tonight is chicken breast baked in parna ham. What to put with it is my afternoon quandry.......

Applesnotcakes · 20/01/2014 13:38

well done losers Grin

my weigh in this morning was not good. 2 pounds ON. Hardly surprising as Ive eaten - and drunk - loads this weekend. Lots of social events and im rubbish at limiting myself

BUT im not going to feel disheartened - am aiming for a 800 cal today and tomorrow and i think the 2 pounds will go pretty quickly.

I know that i can still lose weight with one, possibly 2 - shall we say less disciplined evenings - but 3 is never going to work. So I need to spread out my socialising a bit more - and learn a bit of self control, so a night out is closer to my TDEE.

Will try very hard to keep on track this week and hopefully have better news to report next Monday

Good luck all

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 20/01/2014 14:39

hug perhaps I should start gradually weaning myself off now then rather than going cold turkey for lent...

Also, I realise my typo earlier, I actually weigh 13st 7lbs today! No extra loss sadly just better maths Grin

My other 1/2 is very slim, so no putting him on MFP! He does tonnes of exercise though, he would far rather do that than restrict what he eats, although he watches out for fat/salt due to family history of heart attacks. He's a good role model for the kids. By the end of the year I will be too maybe!

BigWellyLittleWelly · 20/01/2014 19:03

Not being in the slightest bit religious I hadn't appreciated that lent begins at the start of March. So if anyone wants to do sugsr free during lent perhaps ee could have a mini challenge?

Some while back on this thread there were dates throughout the year with goal weight loss worked out. Can anyone find it? Quitting sugar for lent should get many of us quite some way to target!

helzapoppin2 · 20/01/2014 20:52

Can I join?
Start weight two weeks ago 13 st 11 lbs
Today's weight 13 st 8 3/4 lbs
No willpower, I'm hoping a "group thing" will help.

BrokenButNotFinished · 20/01/2014 21:33

So I weighed this morning and I am the same as last week. I'm not too surprised as it was my husband's birthday over the weekend, accompanied by a lot of lotus eating. Turns out lotuses are really heavy... :-)=)

I was still under for the week though - and I hadn't counted in the exercise. I'm under my count for today, so hopefully I can manage a more abstemious week from today.

TotallyAddictedToLurking · 20/01/2014 21:36

Well done everyone on the losses!!

I'm still here but lurking.

I lost 1lb last week and weigh again tomorrow. I'm on track which I'm really pleased about!!

BigWellyLittleWelly · 21/01/2014 16:33

I had a bowl of tuna fish pasta with three teaspoons of mayonnaise today. Won't be making that mistake again in a hurry. Bloody gazillions of calories!

TalkinPeace · 21/01/2014 19:08

hang on in there ladies
try to be a bit stricter with yourselves Monday to Thursday, so the weekend has a little bit of leeway.
