I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Oh, by the looks of it you can only add friends by email or Facebook. That's not great. I don't really want my real name etc on here.

HugAndRoll · 14/01/2014 12:09

notea where it says enter email address to add, put in someone's username (mine is the same as here) and it will send a request. It's just not clear.

WoodBurnerBabe · 14/01/2014 12:09

NoTea you can put usernames in the "email" box - not very obvious but it can be done!

I've added you now.

NoTeaForMe · 14/01/2014 13:54

Thanks, I think I've requested you HugAndRoll?! Who are you on it Wood?

Racheyg · 14/01/2014 15:02

Ok have downloaded My fitness pal app. If this works I can cancel weight watchers and save a few pennies, and lose a few pounds :)

roosterroo · 14/01/2014 17:42

Fast day today, I'm hanging on 2 have my meal with dh.
Unfortunately I made enough soup for 2 fast days, it was better fresh and has a scary resemblance to pond weed! Tell me its a superfood yes, watercress will do me lots of good
Wink

no idea how you'd account for blood donation other than as a bonus on calories used.

and well done al those starting to be really honest with themselves about intake of food and drink
Mindful Eating is what you are aiming for

shutitweirdo · 14/01/2014 18:33

I used to weigh in stones and have moved over to pounds recently. I have just looked up my weight in stones and am quite chuffed as it looks alot bigger in stones than in pounds. Might work to motivate you if you are having a tough time at the mo.

WoodBurnerBabe · 14/01/2014 19:11

NoTea I'm mysk_girl.

I've made my peace with the blood donation by ignoring the 204 calories of biscuits I ate afterwards. Online seems to say that donation is 500-650cal a time, but spread over several days. So I'm going 204 chocolate bourbons and leaving it at that!

BrokenButNotFinished · 14/01/2014 20:51

So - I'm on the third of my fast days and I've found this one rather rough going: I've just been so cold. I also find myself getting rather emotional and scatty on these days. Other than that, it's been ok. I find it difficult to eat less than around 620 calories, though - and that's consistent across the three days. I'm not allowing for exercise though - and when I did look up how much walking the dog would have saved me, it coincidentally came in at around 120 calories.

I've also discovered that I need to big up the carbs a bit after a session of BMF, otherwise I crave chocolate mid-afternoon.

I can't remember who it was who said they spent their fast day baking...? This is a lovely idea if you're doing it for someone else, but surely on a fast day you're setting yourself up for failure?? I love cheese. If I spent a fast day cutting up cheese (for some random reason...) I would end up troughing my bodyweight... :-)=)

roosterroo · 14/01/2014 21:39

I find it tough making tea for dh and eldest ds! Tonight they had cook from frozen pasta, I have to stay out of the kitchen...

Mmm looking forward to brekkie.

YouAreMyRain · 14/01/2014 23:38

Hi, I have just started, doing 5:2, done a few fasts but only weighed myself today.

18st 4lb Blush there, I've admitted it.

This thread is a fab idea and I really hope it helps all of us.

slalomsuki · 15/01/2014 09:07

Week 2 weigh in and I have managed to loose 7.5lbs now and definitely feel it round my waist.

What's really shocking is by logging everything I eat on MFP I can see what a terrible diet I have and what rubbish I eat despite the weight loss. I have tried to make some changes ver the last 2 weeks and introduce more fruit and veg but its hard for me. But I have gone a long way to break my sugar addiction which has to be good long term.

Keep up the good work everyone.

OpposableThumbs · 15/01/2014 09:47

I forgot to write last week but I lost 2.5lb in my first week and 1.5 this week so 4lb in total. 14st 1lb now. Hopefully next week will see me starting with a 13 and maybe the week after I will just be overweight rather than obese.

Good luck everyone who is weighing in today.

EspressoMartiniToGo · 15/01/2014 11:54

First weigh in yesterday and have lost 4lb! Very pleased. Mindful eating is working very well for me. Also cutting out junk and sugar (well, just a bit in the two or three cups of tea per day) is helping. I think I feel perkier somehow.
Just really struggling to find time for exercise. I go to a zumba class once per week, but ideally I want to re-start the shred another two or three times a week too, but just can't seem to get organised/motivated.
Keep on keeping on!

Ratbagcatbag · 15/01/2014 12:34

HI all

Sorry I'm late to join. Now I've got Dh's 50th birthday weekend out the way (last weekend, surprise long weekend away, with far too much rich ffod) and my birthday I am intending to start on Monday Morning.

Anyone doing Slimming world? I'm looking at the online version to be fair and I have found some codes to get the gold package for £60. I think I may start off with it and see how I get on. I can then let membership lapse once I've gotten all the recipes etc that I want from it.

Well done to all those with the weight coming off already.

the fact that you have posted that is a massive leap in the right direction because it shows that not only are you accepting how you got where you are, you are starting to see the long lasting route out

well done

peanutbutterandbanana · 15/01/2014 13:19

I've lost 3lbs after one week (today is my weigh-in day). I'm also on MFP and I highly recommend it. It makes keeping track of everything so easy - the database of foods is enormous. It has also made me exercise more as I can see exactly how many calories I have burned and I am trying not to use those, although failed yesterday. I am also trying to do 5:2 and am fasting today, my third fast day. Am not finding the fasting too bad. Just getting to midday is the hardest bit and then after that it is fine. Well done everyone. Here's to another lb next week!

slimsoon · 15/01/2014 14:04

Weigh in today and really pleased with 3lb off even if it just a drop out of the bucket of lard I have to lose .
I am putting a 10 QR which equals about £1.65 in a jar for every lb off . How amazing would it be to able buy jeans that fit once you lost 52 lbs.

darwiniandreams · 15/01/2014 14:06

ratbag I also do sw but track all food on mfp. I go to the classes though and I have at times been getting confused between the both. Mfp has allowed me 1200 cals. The foods you can have with sw can take you over those cals for the day. It's about finding what works for you best.

justonemorecake · 15/01/2014 18:52

It's not going to be a good day for me today. Had a Danish pastry at work and then I have friends coming round this evening for pizza. I'm going to try not to go too overboard, but it's amazing how much a few slices of pizza add up. I'm going to log it all on mfp but I think it will have to be my 'don't ask day.' I have another fast day tomorrow and I wi be eating healthily the rest of the week, so hopefully it will be ok.

slalomsuki · 15/01/2014 20:15

Just one more cake. Don't worry about the pizza. As long as its logged and then you are aware of it it's not really a problem as long as its not every night.

I say this as someone who has eaten a pizza tonight as a treat and will get back on the diet full flow tomorrow again. I did this last week also and still lost weight.

DearPrudence · 16/01/2014 00:00

It's not what you eat in a day - it's what you eat in a month that's important.

Official weigh in was done yesterday but forgot to post:

Week 2: -2 lbs
Total loss: 4.5 lbs in 2 weeks

headoverheels · 16/01/2014 08:28

Hi all, sorry I don't post much but I checked into this thread on 30th Dec and I've just weighed myself for the first time. (I've decided not to weigh myself too often - in the past I've weighed myself every day while on a diet and I think it can be counter productive for me.)

I am so chuffed to have lost 7lb! I've been focusing on cutting out snacks (esp finishing up the DC's leftovers Blush ) and smaller portions at mealtimes. I also read Eating Less by Gillian Riley (very good - would recommend) and I've exercised twice this week.

Start: 13st 0lb
Now: 12st 7lb
Total loss: 7lb since 1st Jan

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 16/01/2014 08:42

Morning all, just a quick check in. Well done everyone! All doing great!!!

I've had a terrible week, got my period yesterday and have been craving chocolate like never before. Have tried to limit and not have any other snacks to include it in. Eating patterns have been all over the place. Usually going from 12.30ish till after 8 with nothing due to work then picking up dd and getting her home and straight into bed. I have logged almost everything though on MFP and only went over a little but each day. Decided to weigh this morning and I'm 1/2 lb down since Monday so not too bad considering! Might have my official weigh tomorrow morning.

Keep up good work everyone!
