Today is a big day for me, a turning point! I've always been 'big' however have just been getting bigger and bigger. I want to lose 6 stone- starting from today.

Anyone else in the same boat who would like to swap inspiration and tips? Today I've planned to eat healthily and go for a nice long walk Grin

EnglishGirl I'm going to try that - sounds great.

MILLYMOLLYMANDY (love the name, takes me right back) is there any chance you could gradually wean yourself off sugar in your tea? You could cut back gradually, and hopefully become accustomed to it without sugar, as it'll be using up a lot of your calories which you could otherwise build up and use for treats.

over when I started (at just over 15 stone) I aimed for an average of 14-1500 a day, though in my case because I need my treats I work it over a week/fortnight so that I can have some 'treat days' and even 'indulgence days'. I'm now averaging a bit less than that, 13-1400 a day, but I'm walking quite a lot these days, including hills. I can't make myself get over loving eating serious amounts of cake or chocolate in one go, so I have a mix of 'light days' (balanced meals and no sugary treats at all) at around 10-1100, 'treat days' which are basically the same but with one substantial treat coming in at around 15-1600 over the day, and occasional 'indulgence days' eating whatever I damn well feel like no matter what the calorie content and no matter how 'addicty' my behaviour. Interestingly I've noticed that whatever I feel like is still a lot but much less than it was this time last year! I do keep an eye on it, though, and my indulgence days have to be earned in advance by enough light days, and also paid back afterwards as well if the calorie content was unpredictably high.

DH got me to do this as I kept saying I couldn't see a difference. putting this out there for your thoughts.... I think I actually feel a little proud of this. Sorry not showing off just wanted to share as would never share in rl....

I can see your photos Yellow, there is a good difference, well done.

IsaacCox · 15/08/2013 20:08

Wow Yellow what a difference. Amazing, well done.

Sirzy · 15/08/2013 20:11

wow yellow thats fantastic

MiaWallace · 15/08/2013 20:13

Excellent YellowCanary. Huge difference in the two photos.

How much weight have you lost between the 2 photos?

I'm starting to feel like I'm getting to grips with the diet side. I'm struggling with the exercise side. My wonderful dh has just bought me a Ki Fit as an early birthday present.

I'm hoping it will encourage me to be more active. Will keep you updated on if it any good.

Have eaten the most beautiful dinner. Its a Bill Granger recipe from Everyday Asian. Ready in 10 mins.

Stir fried chicken with basil. (recipe calls for chicken, but minced turkey more easily available. I get the low fat one. Or butcher would prob mince chicken breasts.

Ingredients
4 garlic cloves
2 large red chillies
¼ teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons light flavoured oil
600g chicken mince
400g snake beans or green beans cut into 5cm lengths on the diagonal
2 tablespoons fish sauce
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon caster sugar
Small handful Asian basil leaves or regular basil leaves
Pinch ground white pepper
Pound the garlic, one chilli and salt into a mortar and pestle until it forms a paste. Alternatively, place the garlic and chilli on a chopping board, sprinkle with the salt and finely chop with a knife using the side of the blade to make a paste. Slice the remaining chilli thinly.

Heat a wok or large non stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the oil and the garlic paste and sliced chilli and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds or until the garlic starts to colour. Add the mince and cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes or until starting to brown, then add the beans and cook for a further minute. Add the fish sauce, soy sauce and sugar and stir-fry for a further 30 seconds.

Remove from the heat, stir in the basil leaves and white pepper. Serve immediately with steamed rice

So thats the recipe.
What I actually did was squirt about a tbs garlic puree, and a tsp chili puree onto the pan with 1 finely chopped red chili (seeds and pith removed). (no oil, good non stick pan)
Chuck in turkey, stir fry on high for a few mins. (it cooks really quickly) Chick in beans, cook for another couple of mins, continue as per recipe. I used thai basil today, which is a bit aniseedy, but I prefer the normal basil.
If you dont like heat, then dont use much chili, but I think the chopped chili adds a nice bit of colour. Use a mild one. (I use waitrose cooks ingredients chilis which give a gentle kick but dont hurt!)
While it was cooking, I put my rice into microwave for 10 mins.

Served with extra greens as I'm doing slimming world and it is free on Easy Extra day,

Am stuffed, and feel like I've been really decadent. Grin

YellowCanary1 · 15/08/2013 20:22

Thank you all. My total weight loss is 33 lbs but there is about 25lbs between these two photos. DH has been so amazingly supportive changing his whole diet and habits to support me and encouraging every step of the way; he encouraged me to post them here as he was telling me off (in a kind way) for not patting myself on the back enough and said others would see the difference. I just see this huge blob whenever I look in the mirror but can see the effort has been worthwhile looking at the photos, so maybe I should just look at those instead!

Miafor me finding the exercise I really enjoyed and could do with others really helped. I have started running with a local group of really lovely women and it has been great fun and I've made new friends. I also love my wii fit!

TiredNursey · 15/08/2013 20:24

Yellow, you look brilliant.
Good on your DH for getting you to see. You really should be proud of yourself! Flowers
You need to change your attitude a bit.
I remember (yrs ago, at school) saying to one of my friends: "Some days I look in the mirror and have to say to myself, you really don't look as bad as you think."
She replied: "Oh no, I never do that. Some days I have to remind myself that I dont look as good as I think!

Quite sad really looking back. I was a lovely looking teenager, but had so little confidence I never really believed it. S on the other hand had plenty! Thank goodness age has given me wisdom as well as wrinkles Grin

YellowCanary1 · 15/08/2013 20:37

Tired I completely agree, I have never known my self esteem to be so low and have no real reason for it. I have the most amazing life, I am married to a wonderful man, we have 2 beautiful children, we're financially sound, have lots of close family and friends, I have a fabulous job, I've secured a scholarship to complete a phd (my absolute dream), on etc, etc! But then hate what I look like, which is quite sad really that I put so much emphasis on something which essentially is quite shallow! and the silliest part is I only gave birth 10 weeks ago - if I was my friends I'd be yelling at myself to give myself a break and let me body recover! So therefore my new aim will be to work on my attitude and start being much more positive about myself!! Smile

The recipe sounds yummy tired!!!

TiredNursey · 15/08/2013 20:54

10 weeks ago you gave birth to a beautiful new baby. There is absolutely nothing greater than the miracle of life. And your body has to adjust to make that miracle. (that prob sounds a bit new agey but I hate new mums feeling bad about themselves. I blame womens magazines and trash tabloids)
Look don't worry, even the celebs hide from the paps daily mail after having babies. And they get personal trainers, and do daft diets, and only emerge when they can get back in the skinny jeans.
Slow and steady is the answer.
And you are 33 lbs down, so that shows some serious committment. And a fab achievement.
Your confidence is like loads of others, linked to your body shape. You can change the way you think (that may take some time) but in the meanwhile, you can (and are) changing your shape. Smile

MILLYMOLLYMANDYMAX · 15/08/2013 20:56

Clarinet V2 One step at a time I have cut down from 5 cups of coffee with 2 sugars in each cup to 1 cup of tea with 1 sugar.
Been a struggle but nearly 2nd day over.

HenriettaPye · 15/08/2013 21:05

Just had a look at your photos Yellow, what a difference! Can't believe you only gave birth 10 weeks ago! You look fantastic. My youngest will be one on Saturday and I still look 9 months pregnant!!

Hello everyone

Ahhhh at the imagining prancing about in your pants and being thin!

I've only recently been able to wear my engagement ring again

JaquelineHyde · 15/08/2013 21:59

Evening ladies, I was brave this morning and jumped on the scales and after a 6 day week I have managed to lose 2lb Grin

So, so pleased as I thought I had, had a really bad week and was bound to gain but it has all been OK (not that the Jelly Belly Beans I ate tonight will help matters)

This week I shall have another 6 day week and weigh in on Wednesday morning so that I am in sync with all of you and can be included on the stats.

Yellow my little boy is only 15 weeks old now (DC4) and I found it really hard to relax and allow myself time to adjust to being a new mum again. I lost 2 stone when pregnant and then another half a stone in the first few weeks after having him but then I put some back on and just stalled and I hated myself for it Sad

I think you (and your DH) are right, you (we all) must congratulate ourselves for all our achievements, no matter how small and we must remember to set small manageable goals. Onwards and upwards Grin

Sirzy · 16/08/2013 07:34

Good morning everyone :) hope you all have a good day (not a food day like I initially typed!)

I have done my first half hour exercise, was going to go for a long walk but the rain clouds make that less appealing!

RootRelatedInjury · 16/08/2013 07:35

Yellow The difference in your photos is amazing! Well done. Flowers

IsaacCox · 16/08/2013 08:11

That recipe sounds lovely Tired, thanks for sharing.

Well done Jaqueline.

I've weighed myself again this morning I know I shouldn't but couldn't resist and it's showing a 1lb loss. I won't weigh again until Wednesday now.

I'm noticing my body changing shape more now and so is dh, he keeps telling me "you have lost weight you know, you can definitely tell from your stomach and face" Grin

I measured myself again this morning and have lost another 1.5 inches from my waist (none anywhere else) Plus I have a chin! Not just my usual round face, my chin is starting to get more defined Grin

Have a great day all.

IsaacCox · 16/08/2013 08:13

Oh I forgot again! My daily reminder is my sister in law (who I haven't seen since we got married in December 2010) is moving over here from Moldova next month and is so slim Envy I don't want her to recognise me Grin

YellowCanary1 · 16/08/2013 08:27

Well done Isaac and Jaqueline

I've joined MFP now if anyone wants to add me, I am YellowCanary123. Still finding my way around it at the moment!
