Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Morning all. This thread is really helping keep me motivated. And give me meal ideas.

Am completely back on track now after my bank holiday weekend. Didn't even contemplate alcohol last night. Even though DH did.

Yesterdays food was:

B - egg mayo and a slice of cheese
L - lots of salad with chicken and feta and a creamy dressing
D - pork chop fried in oil and butter and the braised cabbage
S - a few snacks - slice of cheese, olives, a couple of slices of pastrami, some Brie.
Lots of water. 3 cups of tea with milk.

Today -
B - scrambled eggs with a dash of cream and some grated cheese
L - will be salad and maybe tuna
D - poss pork stroganoff with cauliflower mash

sneaks in, wobbling Right, I am starting AGAIN from today - did so well food wise despite the bank hol right up until Saturday night when I went to my friend's 30th. All night party. In a FORT. Suffice to say I am too old to stay up all night dancing, and the vats of alcohol required to do so resulted in McDonald's and donuts and all sorts. So 3lbs on, and serves me right. A massive well done to everyone else!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 08/05/2013 10:19

Bit late to the party.. I lost 3lb so far :)
I've sacrificed a bit of my wedding dress budget for a personal trainer, so I have been training hard too!
One thing I want ask BIWI is: Is it possible to make muscle gains without carbs? I have read that it is difficult to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time and I really need to make some big gains at the moment! I had 6 months off training because of anemia and other issues so lost a LOT of muscle.

BIWI · 08/05/2013 10:30

You will be able to build muscle without carbs. I have done! Carbs don't build muscle, they build fat. Protein builds muscle, and you should be eating a fair amount of that.

Morning all, and very well done on the losses so far. One pound off for me, but this is my 3 rd bootcamp so I am getting closer to my maintenance weight.

Lovely weather here sun and yesterday so really enjoyed my salads. Lets hope it lasts. Have a good day everyone.

QueenofDreams · 08/05/2013 10:35

Ok I just had breakfast - kind of porridge made up with a bit of seed mix and some coconut flour. I think it counts about 6g carb is that too high for one meal?

CrystalTits · 08/05/2013 10:39

Man I am grumpy today. Coffee with cream for breakfast, and wondering what I can lay my hands on for lunch at work; lots of carbs here as I work on a uni campus.

Dinner will be spare salmon fillet from last night (rubbed with ras el hanout, lush) and salad or buttered veg/creamed spinach.

Aiming to drink loads of water to flush out my bad attitude!

WillieWaggledagger · 08/05/2013 10:44

bullet, i'm no expert but muscles need protein to build so i would have thought low carbing would be ideal

BIWI · 08/05/2013 10:48

Queen - it is a lot, especially as you really should be getting your carbs from veg/salad

Thanks, BIWI, Willie.
I've just bought the John Briffa book on my shiny new Nook and am getting stuck into it!

BIWI · 08/05/2013 10:58

TBH it's not a problem I've ever experience with low carbing - plenty of water, fat and veg/salad should mean that you are OK.

What people often mistake for constipation, though, is a reduced frequency of 'going'.

OP posts:
FreudiansSlipper · 08/05/2013 11:05

i am starting today

2 boiled eggs for breakfast but did have milk in my tea

need to loose as much as possible before we go away in 2 weeks 2 days mmmm....

CiderwithBuda · 08/05/2013 11:41

BIWI - I was just wondering that. About the reduced frequency. I'm certainly eating less quantity wise. So it makes sense. I'm enjoying the Greek yoghurt with flaxseeds for breakfast but conscious that too much dairy is not advised so trying to have it every second day.

WillieWaggledagger · 08/05/2013 11:43

i was taking a magnesium supplement but had to reduce the quantity as it made me poo far too frequently!

BIWI · 08/05/2013 11:44

Yoghurt is supposed to be better tolerated than milk/cream/cheese, so you may be fine with that. But beware the flax. Others have reported that it makes them stall.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 08/05/2013 11:44

soup seemed to do the trick last night. Feel much better today

Ive had lots of coffee, then a slice of bacon, mushrooms and a fried duck egg. Twas bloody delicious. Off to top up my water bottle now! Grin

For all the new people there is a recipe thread linked in various areas - you should never run out of meal ideas if you have a look at it.

I have really gone off fish lately, especially Salmon, so smoked or steaks is out for me, but I still scoff everything else and I am partial to some prawns/crab/lobster.

warzonemummy · 08/05/2013 11:59

Yesterday I had.
B. eggs
L. Tuna salad
D. BBQ chicken and grilled Vegs with coleslaw.

halfthesize · 08/05/2013 12:33

Morning all and welcome to the newbies, this is my 4th Bootcamp and I am very close to goal weight so loosing slowly this time. I would say re constipation, it has never been an issue for me, I eat alot of green veg/salad and drink shed loads of water!
I have just got back from the gym, worked out for 1hr 30 mins, did arms, legs, abs, ran 3.5 miles 27 mins and did my 150 squats(part of a 30 day challenge)
B-2 boiled eggs

For the newbies this is the question thread: questions

and this is the meal ideas thread: recipes

EwanHoozami · 08/05/2013 12:46

Hello to all the new joiners, re-joiners and de-lurkers! What a merry band.

B: Lidl yog
L: Avocado salad
D: Mexican fritatta and green beans

RE constipation, you might find that you're just not having those big, bulky carb poos anymore (delightful Grin )

teaandthorazine · 08/05/2013 12:57

I have a feeling BIWI may be getting her big stick out already as it appears my breakfast was a packet of pork scratchings Grin - so much for unprocessed! They were posh ones, though, from a deli! I was caught on the hop, what can I say...?

Lunch has been chargrilled courgette, asparagus and feta in a peppery olive oil dressing, with some plain Greek yog to follow. Dinner tonight will be something vegetable-y, maybe with some fish?

Plus plenty of water, of course. Love how flat my tummy is....

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 08/05/2013 13:14

ewan Grin but it's true!

I was bunged up first week of first bootcamp but it was sorted by a combination of :
Drinking more water than I thought was humanely possible (and is now my normal amount, amazing how you get used to it)
Taking vitamin c tablet
Drinking a strong black coffee followed by some walking
Occasional use of oatbran (not bootcamp, borrowed from Dukan but it worked for me)

Yes you may very well "go" less but it's cos your body is using food so much more efficiently and using up all that lovely fat for energy. Now if I have a carb binge (who me? Never) I suffer from bloating, tummy cramps and then one of those smelly, slimy, big uncomfortable poos that I thought were "normal" before. I used to be a one a day girl, now it's every second or third day BUT I feel fine on that, my body is working to a new normal.

And after all that, what's for lunch??
Grin

QueenofDreams · 08/05/2013 13:53

I've just had a mushroom and spinach omelette. Very tasty. DD obviously thought so too as she nicked half of it leaving me slightly hungry still now.

I'm finding toilet time rather more comfortable now I have to say. I may have only just joined bootcamp but I haven't had bread in about 3 weeks now, apart from at the weekend when I had a burger from a stall at a festival. paying the price for overindulging at the weekend as I'm 1lb up again. I've been yo-yoing around this weight for a while now. Must be more disciplined!

plinkyplonks · 08/05/2013 14:09

Really bad first week carbs wise but still managed to lose 2lbs due to amount of exercise I've been doing. So can't be too unhappy! :)

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/05/2013 15:37

I am back up to 10 stone 6 this morning, which was the original weight last Monday. Buggery bastard bollocks!

I have been good as well (other than the wine on saturday). i am due on but sodding phantom period hasn't turned up. So i assume it is to do with that. ANNOYING.
