Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

would someone mind adding me to the spreadsheet? I don't do spreadsheets Blush starting yesterday with a weight of 11st 10lb

dinner was a barbequed tuna steak with salad and a burger patty. Had no alcohol though DP was on the cider, I resisted. I feel rather saintly for resisting the siren lure of cider!

Yama · 07/05/2013 20:35

Oh, I have eaten far too much today. Well, for dinner.

Breakfast - Scrambled eggs.
S - Yoghurt n' flaxseed
L - Salad with pate and cheese
S - Pepperoni
D - Two burgers with cheese and a bacon and red cabbage thing.

That was 3 hours ago and I'm still stuffed.

Whoever was asking about exerceise - I cycle and walk. Dh, however does a primal type thing of shorts bursts of strenuous exercise twice a day. We are both slim but I don't think this is down to the exercise.

halfthesize · 07/05/2013 20:45

Eve All and well done on some great losses, I have been a little absent of late, afraid RL/good weather getting in the way.
My loss was only 1lb last week, not talking about the wine consumption over bank holidayBlush
Had a good day today:
B- Coffee
L- egg salad
D-roasted belly of pork with creamy garlic mushrooms and loads of water..

sammisatt · 07/05/2013 20:51

B: chorizo scramble (sorry BIWi..chorizo is like crack to me. I need to stop buying it) with spring greens
L: slow roasted lamb with creamed spinach
S: half a pack of scratchings
D: Tuna, mayo, an avocado and small piece of cheddar.

thekitchenfairy · 07/05/2013 20:52

Such great losses... Well done everyone!

I can't remember who posted ^^ but I have a DH also in love with whole foods and it is a hard opinionto sway... We ate, we thought, a healthy diet, lots of veg, legumes, whole grains, etc... But low fat yoghurt, crap pretend fat and diet 'treats' . My weight crept up little by little... After 5 years I had more than 2 stone to lose. I was also a honeyed up sugary twat who thought nothing of a healthy??? Flapjack for brekkie which also did not help!

I didn't understand why, but an enlightened GP pal explained without adequate fat, these food sources all turn to ......sugar! And I was eating this at every meal... No wonder I was on a blood sugary roller

Having seen my appearance and my mood change etc etc since jan bootcamp DH has now joined me as he has tried the starvation low fat WOE and he could not stick it... He lost 7lb last week, worries about cholesterol but i have given him the primal book and briffa to read... And remind him I have lost more than 10% of the bad arterial fat since I joined BIWIs merry band!

BIWI, willie, black... All you ladies on this thread are amazing. It has been life changing for me and I cannot thank you enough. Thanks all round

thekitchenfairy · 07/05/2013 20:55

Oops sorry a bit of a gushy long post and a few typos. Damn this iPad!

MaryBeardfanclub · 07/05/2013 21:05

B: 2 leek and egg muffins, 1 bbq'd pork steak
L: fish pie, cauliflower puree, buttery swede
D: gammon steak, fried egg, green beans

dp still poorly, diagnosed with acute tonsillitis so he has eaten practically nothing for 4 days. I had to take today off work and will probably take tomorrow off too to look after dc. Quite stressful, did think mmm pepsi max but resisted! bikini gate 6 weeks away tomorrow Shock

TreeLuLa · 07/05/2013 21:24

Hi all,

great to catch up with everyone's progress so far (and nick meal ideas!)

B natural yog
L Tuna mayo (was pleased with myself because despite stressful full-on work day with laid-on sandwich / wrap / crisps / cookie lunch I resisted it all!)
D Halloumi with salad.

CrystalTits · 07/05/2013 21:53

Thanks Ilisten2theradio and doshusallie. Grated a bit of lemon zest into some yog, may yet swig some double cream neat from the fridge too! Difficult not to think about the bad (sweet) stuff when in the grip of a craving though. Can't wait for a bit more variety in week 3...onwards and upwards!

Bessie123 · 07/05/2013 21:56

crystaltits on the last bootcamp some of us found liquorice tea helpful, it tastes sweet. I am drinking a sweet chai tea thingy at the moment, the liquorice is not too overpowering.

decaffwithcream · 07/05/2013 22:20

Thought I had a lovely chicken breast wrapped in bacon and flavoured with garlic and herbs for dinner from the butchers but turned out it was stuffed with garlicky breadcrumb stuffing. So dinner was small slices of scraped chicken with bits of bacon in mayo. Hmm

Wasn't in the least tempted by the stuffing, just disappointed the chicken was essentially hollow.

CrystalTits · 07/05/2013 22:29

Bessie123 thanks, I'll give that a go.

QueenofDreams · 07/05/2013 22:55

kitchenfairy that was me posting. I think I'm basically secretly going Primal. I know if I say outright I'm trying Primal eating, he'll voice his opinions on healthy eating so I'm just getting on with it without making too much fuss. From everything I've been reading about primal and paleo it just seems to make sense. They say the definition of insanity is repeating the same behaviour expecting different results - so I'm no longer just repeating the same eating behaviour trying to lose weight, I'm trying a new approach and hopefully it'll be more successful :)

thekitchenfairy · 07/05/2013 23:11

Hi queen ... Your DH and mine sound v similar! Mine keeps on about the amount of meat we now eat and worries now about long term effect of all the cream in our coffee! I succumbed to a chickpea quinoa salad from my old life recently... The bloat was agony and far more awful effects including a huge sugar slump an hour later which took me by surprise.

Like you this change has been my lightbulb moment and, when I stick to it it works. It isn't v forgiving if you go off track, but I am not often tempted.

Good luck!

LackaDAISYcal · 08/05/2013 00:10

I have just had a shitty evening at work Sad and normally I would be nose first into a bag of wine gums and a bottle of shiraz...but I resisted. I am drinking sleepytime tea instead. Go Me Grin

Lunch was an odd one today. Out and about and had to resort to MaccyD's for lunch (only guaranteed gluten free option when on the road Confused ) But, I had the burger without the bun, and it had cheese food and bacon as well as mayo and salsa, so probably not the best, but I had no fries or bun and asked for a soda water to drink...

Dinner was prawn and avocado salad with a homemade vinaigrette.

I'm not sure that I'm eating enough fat though. I'm definately not drinking enough water.

Had a marvellous fund yesterday in Waitrose. I was looking for an alternative to mayo & butter & found a jar of Bernaise sauce. Had it on roast chicken & purple sprouting & was delicious. I'd highly recommend if you need a bit of a change.
Label says 1% sugars
so no big stick needed

ZimboMum · 08/05/2013 07:18

Morning all. STS the same the last two mornings but guess that's normal.

Yesterday:
B: bacon and eggs fried in butter with mayo
L: steak with asparagus and broccoli fried in butter with Mayo
D: salmon with ginger butter (low carb gourmet) with buttered spinach, leek and cabbage. DH liked the ginger butter but I wasn't 100% convinced.

Today will be:
B: omelette with crispy bacon, cheese and herbs
L: tuna Mayo with avocado and mozzarella salad
D: lamb ribs roasted prob with broccoli and asparagus.

Onwards and downwards everyone :)

Snowcatliveshere · 08/05/2013 07:34

Just delurking to say a big thanks BIWI. Been trying to loose weight for over a year with no success - all my usual ways no longer working. Previously I could stick to whatever diet all day but in the evenings be unable to lay off the snacks. I've realised that the low fat way is sort of ingrained - I started with rosemary Connelly when I was 19 and have thought of butter/cheese/avocados etc as a real no no ever since (43 now!). Really hard for me to add butter to my food! I started this woe a week ago and have lost 5lb - I don't have much more to go but I have struggled with this for literally years. This is it for me - no hunger / cravings and lovely food. All makes sense now.

BIWI · 08/05/2013 08:16

Woo hoo! Flowers Brilliant. And isn't it lovely to eat such great food?!

I'm off to Manchester today and will be working there all afternoon/evening, not back home until around 2 am, so won't be here much to post. Apologies - not ignoring anyone!

Hi, please can I join! I have come via the lightbulb thread and have been inspired to give this a go.

I have a substantial amount of weight to lose but am going to break it down into two stone chunks. Hoping to lose first lot by the end of the summer.

Started yesterday and will be watching for meal ideas so I don't get bored with salads too quickly.

prettybird · 08/05/2013 09:28

Had roast chicken skin on of course last night, served with celeriac mash with a bit of cream. Sooooo tasty. Smile

QueenofDreams · 08/05/2013 09:39

I have never bought into the low fat thing for losing weight really. I've always thought sugar is the problem. Despite this I still feel odd eating really fatty food when I'm trying to lose weight. It still feels counterintuitive somehow.

My DP doesn't go out of his way to eat healthy, he just has very strong opinions about the best way to eat healthy if you want to lose weight. He's not bothered about losing weight at the moment, even though I think he is a touch over what he should be, he has a slight belly on him but it's not really too bad.

maidofmuss · 08/05/2013 09:45

Hi Clare20 ? I'm new, too. First few days hard but now (one week in) much more energy and feeling really positive that this WOE will (finally) work ? got to! Desperate not to be hiding under a baggy t-shirt again on the beach this summer! Good luck! Today:
B Leftover courgette fritter mix from last night but with added eggs so more of a frittata
L will raid fridge (waiting for delivery so working at home) prob cheese/bit of salad
D chicken/veg stir fry (mainly spinach)

newlark · 08/05/2013 09:59

My dh is being a bit sceptical and expressing concern over the emphasis on protein and fat (though I did point out the huge volumes of salad and veg that I am eating.

My week with no loss (after the initial 4lb drop) has ended with another 3lbs off in the last 2 days so 7lbs in total now in 13 days. Keep the faith...

very dilute PLJ with sparkling water is my saviour in the evenings - I can almost pretend it is a gin and tonic Grin
