Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Yup doshie and I reckon the "worm" thread is rich pickings too, there are so many people on that thread who won't be in a hurry to eat spaghetti any time soon ..... Wink

CiderwithBuda · 09/05/2013 22:28

Hi all.

Going well here. The Eton mess that ds brought home yesterday is no more. I made DH eat it. Ditto the shortbread and some cheesecake leftover from weekend. My halo is so shiny!

Have been drinking lots of water. Funny how the more you drink the more you want! I've noticed that before. I think I generally don't drink enough - usually just drink tea all day and wine all night! So now my body is going "yay she's drinking water again - get more while we can!" Smile

B was two boiled eggs
L was big salad with tuna mayo and avocado
S slice of cheese
Olives with my pre-dinner drink (water of course!)
D chicken thighs roasted with chorizo, onion and pepper served with cauliflower mash
A small piece of Brie

Feeling much slimmer. So much less bloated. I go to a toning machine place and have been 3 times this week walking 20 mins each way. Due to go tomorrow and Saturday too. Then hoping to restart C25k next week.

The weight I regained over weekend is gone now thankfully.

maidofmuss · 09/05/2013 22:51

quick check in:
B mushrooms fried in butter, 2 eggs, handful spinach
L cold salmon, squeeze of lemon, salad
D chicken strips in butter with chunky courgette strips and spinach and dollop of cream (very moreish)
Not hungry but know am not drinking way enough water yet
Birthday drinks do after work tomorrow ? panic. Thinking of allowing myself two gin and slimline tonics (or vodka sodas) interspersed with lots of fizzy water so I'm (theoretically) in control...

Bessie123 · 09/05/2013 22:59

ruprekt I have made a quiche like that before but got the tastiest crust from mixing ground almonds and coconut flour. It tasted too almondy otherwise.

Bessie123 · 09/05/2013 23:04

Oh shit, I am so tactless.

Obviously, your quiche will be delicious Grin

LackaDAISYcal · 09/05/2013 23:29

had a nap, and now I'm wide awake and sore. No carb has passed my lips, but a few (honey-less) hot toddies might have Blush

Deearnamaternitynurse · 10/05/2013 05:48

Thanks to all those that replied to my post I did eat stacks of carbs before I just feel like I have this enormous headache, weird taste in mouth and at times quite shakes and in the need for a sugar fix, silly question but is diet coke allowed at all

teaandthorazine · 10/05/2013 07:16

Deearna - that will be the carb flu. It's perfectly normal and will pass in a day or two. It tends to be worse the more carbs you previously ate, as it's your body's response to not getting its 'fix' any longer.

Take paracetamol, drink plenty of water. Do NOT drink diet coke! Diet drinks are the devils work - they have no place in a healthy diet imo. Make sure you're eating plenty of fat.

The good news is that once you're over it, you start to feel great! Keep going, you're doing well.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/05/2013 07:24

Hello everyone.

I had a funny a day yesterday, travelling a lot so didn't eat until 5' and had some prawns and chicken satay from M and S. Then some cheese and ham when I got in, was too tired to cook.

I am still 10 stone 4 toda so no loss, and feel very water retenetiony. Period needs to hurry up!

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 07:47

Argh. Dinner last night turned into a disaster! DP offered to cook his lamb and tomato stew last night. I thought 'fine, I'll just have it with veg instead of rice'. Except for some reason he put in half a bottle of honey. It was unbelievably sweet! By the time it was cooked it was too late to cook something else so I just tried to pick the lamb out of the sauce. Even so, it was probably still pretty carby with the little bit of sauce I couldn't avoid.

WillieWaggledagger · 10/05/2013 08:06

Queen how annoying! it happens though, and it sounds like you did your best. just drink plenty of water today and eat really cleanly and i wouldn't thought it would do much damage

it's funny though how quickly your tastes change though in terms of how sweet things seem isn't it

WhyIRayLiotta · 10/05/2013 08:22

Arghhhhh crazy few days work wise have knocked me off the wagon big style.
I had to go away for 2 nights - to a random wee rural place and there was no option but to eat what the hosts provided. (Pizza Blush)
I also drank alcohol on both nights - as I didn't want to tell my (all male) colleagues that I was on a diet - and if I didn't drink (I'm known to be partial to a tipple!) they would think I was pregnant!

I weighed this morning and I am 3lbs up from Tuesday Angry

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 08:42

willie yes it surprises me. I've never had much of a sweet tooth anyway, and I've always found some things far to sickly, but a couple of weeks ago DP bought a pack of mango and I ate a piece. I'd been doing primal only a few days and that mango tasted like the sweetest most indulgent thing I'd ever had!

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 08:42

ugh too sickly

BloggingAboutTediousThings · 10/05/2013 08:51

Good morning everybody!

I drank my second bulletproof coffee this morning and I am finally getting used to preparing it. Last night I had another big salad with cheese etc. I feel great, slept fantastic last night and I am looking forward to the weekend.

How is everybody getting on?

BerylStreep · 10/05/2013 09:22

Blogging what is a bulletproof coffee?

rubybricks · 10/05/2013 09:25

morning all!

blogging what is bulletproof coffee? is it where you take it with cream?? i have cut down to two cups a day (from about 8!) and am having difficulty keeping up with the thread, apologies.

i find i do ok when it's just me to think about, but struggle to prepare family meals. have chicken thighs in the fridge for tonight and no idea how to prepare them (threw a packet out last week as they went past the sell by date for the same reason Blush)

hope everyone has a good day today!

teaandthorazine · 10/05/2013 09:31

Oh, I love me a bulletproof coffee. It makes low-fatters heads explode Grin

springykitsch · 10/05/2013 09:35

Excuse me for crashing into the thread - I started low-carbing this week and I was just thinking how easy it was to, pretty much, cut out carbs... but I had an awful gall bladder incident last night - ie lots of awful pain and feeling sick. BIWI can you give me some advice?

I admit that I didn't have any breakfast - early start, lots going on. When I finally got time to eat I ate a whole cured sausage (can't think what they're called!) - no rusk content (gluten intolerant). Immediately felt sick and I was knocked out for the day. I tried to eat some veg (raw carrot) but felt so awful I couldn't face it.

Now wary of setting off another jag. Eating greek yoghurt for breakfast but wary of eating meat. Help!

[btw I am also amazed at how this diet has switched off my sweet tooth! I had a very bad case of it and I have simply lost interest. Even chocolate adverts don't get me going... Smile ]

prettybird · 10/05/2013 10:11

Are they chicken thighs on the bone? I have a great recipe (actually from MN years ago). It does use a lemon - but it is only one amongst all the thighs so should be ok.

4-8 chicken thighs on the bone. Put into roasting pan or oven proof dish (I use a solid Le Creuset frying pan that can go from oven to stove). Squeeze a lemon over them and then tuck the two lemon halves in amongst the thighs. Tuck in plenty of unpeeled garlic cloves. Drizzle olive oil over it all and sprinkle with sea salt. Cook at 200C for 40 minutes. Optionally, after 20 minutes you can add some shredded basil.

The recipe also calls for 2 glasses of white wine: one to drink while it is cooking Wink and the other to add to the juices once it has cooked (and taken the thighs out) and bubbled for a few minutes on the hob. Obviously while on Boot Camp, you could should forego this. Grin

decaffwithcream · 10/05/2013 10:21

Am also waiting agog to hear what a bulletproof coffee is!

decaffwithcream · 10/05/2013 10:23

DS did not go to sleep at all last night - I don't mean he didn't sleep much, I mean he hasn't slept since wednesday night - so if you can advise re the coffee asap it would be much appreciated!

halfthesize · 10/05/2013 10:25

Morning all, I am not a happy bunny have put on 1lb in a day and not sure howConfused hoping it was just not drinking enough water, knew I should not be weighing daily again, but could not help myself!!

Breakfast today was 2 eggs scrambled and a coffee.
2 pints of water already done.

DangerousMouse · 10/05/2013 11:14

This WOE is getting very expensive for clothes! I have been low carbing since Jan, and am really getting through the sizes - how does everyone else deal with this? Maybe ebay is the way to go! If anyone is in Surrey and would like some size 16ish tops then let me know, I may just have to dump them.

decaffwithcream · 10/05/2013 11:34

Perhaps we should have a clothes rotation as we all go down through the sizes? Wink

Charity shops may be your best idea. I look forward to having that complaint!
