Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Theres never much good in the charity shops round here, will keep looking. I don't want to buy too much as saving up for a big shop before we go on holiday next month, hopefully another size down by then as well.

If you keep up with it you'll be whizzing through the sizes also - it doesn't take long. I was a size 20 in Jan, now my size 14's are feeling a bit loose.

BerylStreep · 10/05/2013 11:42

Wow, DangerousMouse, that is amazing progress!

BerylStreep · 10/05/2013 11:43

I have updated my weightless chart on my profile. Blue line is still on a downward trend, but still a lot of daily fluctuation.

LilyAmaryllis · 10/05/2013 11:51

Amazed at DangerousMouse! This is what I need to hear!

The bulletproof coffee, is it this:

www.bulletproofexec.com/bulletproof-coffee-recipe/

kiwigirl42 · 10/05/2013 11:53

decaffwithcream here is the original bulletproof coffee

I think lots of people just put coconut oil into black coffee. can't quite bring myself to try this myself yet.

I used to eat paleo and loved it but fell off the wagon. I did intermittent fasting before hysterectomy in March but wanted to cut out all grain again as my fibromyalgia pain is much improved when I do. Also want to lose 15kg and have started again this wk with low carb as it works for me. Have lost 2lb since Tues!
Have still eaten some Total greek yogurt though with tsp of honey. Makes me want to eat it.
Fav meal is fried bacon with courgette ribbons in butter. delicious.

Ocado do a Swedish hollandaise sauce which is 2g carbs per 100g. I had a tbsp last night with brocolli, mushrooms and fried aubergine. Yum.

decaffwithcream · 10/05/2013 12:03

Thanks kiwigirl!

I think I would find that easier to try if I was in the snowy mountains of Tibet. I will think about the coconut oil, I couldn't contemplate coffee with cream until 2 weeks ago and now it seems lovely.

I do miss manuka honey as it's such a good anti-inflammatory. I'm glad this is not flu season as it would be hard to do without it then.

BerylStreep rubybricks

Bulletproof coffee is coffee with either MCT oil or virgin coconut oil and grass-fed butter. Yes, sounds disgusting but tastes amazing. A majority of my friends are strict Paleo followers and started drinking the bulletproof coffee a while ago and despite them not being overweight in the slightest I could tell a big difference in their appearance when I saw them last week after not having seen them since they started drinking it.

Buying usual coffee and putting coconut oil in it is not what a bulletproof coffee should be. You need to buy special low toxin, high performance coffee. I don't buy the one from the website and it is much cheaper to buy alternatives on the internet. I am lucky enough to live close enough to the WholeFoods store in Kensington and after having done a bit of research I found the Organic Grumpy Mule Columbia coffee to be the best. I paid GBP 3.75 for a small bag (250g). The best thing to add is MCT oil but I bought virgin coconut oil instead. I might change the MCT oil soon though. You also need to add butter, but the butter needs to be grass-fed. I buy Kerrygold.

I then eat my first low carb meal at 2pm and another last one at 8pm.

teaandthorazine Yes, so true.

I tend to wear a lot of dresses, so even after losing a bit of weight I can just wear a belt with a dress and it should be okay. Maybe buying wrap dresses is a good idea?

rubybricks · 10/05/2013 13:04

thanks for that blogging and kiwigirl - am pleased to report i have virgin coconut oil AND grass-fed butter to hand - now how do i find out if my nespresso selections are high performance? Smile

well done dangermouse - that really is terrific, you must be so pleased with yourself. it's so inspiring to hear this kind of thing. did you do a lot of exercise alongside the low-carbing? i'm finding it hard as i feel a bit spaced out a lot of the time.

thanks so much for the recipe prettybird, that's tonight sorted then! will forgo the wine, as one glass of anything is never enough Smile but will let you know how it goes down with the family. am sure someone else posted a lovely recipe and that's why i bought them originally, but the thread moves so fast and i didn't make a note of it...

teaandthorazine i made a version of your cauliflower cheese last night - twas delicious, thanks!

B: 2 eggs fried in butter, half an avocado
L: spinach leaves, half an avocado, smoked mackerel fillet, spring onions, cucumber, dressing, mayo, slice cheese

DangerousMouse · 10/05/2013 13:30

Thanks all Blush

I haven't done any exercise at all, although I am going to be starting the couch to 5k next week, the loss to date is with no exercise at all.

There were lots of big losses at the end of last bootcamp, really inspiring.

Bessie123 · 10/05/2013 13:30

blogging is the grumpy mule coffee all water processed? That Dave Asprey guy seems to think that is bad because it encourages mould toxins. This low toxin high performance stuff seems quite difficult to find - what were you looking for when you did your research? Was the grumpy mule the best because they are all water processed?

MaryBeardfanclub · 10/05/2013 13:36

ooo great some experienced bullet proof coffee drinkers. I tried to make this last summer after reading great things about it - 1) it broke my liquidiser (boiling liquid into room temp glass!) 2) I felt sick for 2 hours

so, can you give exact quantities of each ingredient and how you combine them? I have heard some use aerolatte - I used to have one but it broke but would this do the job?

i think I felt sick for hours because I was not used to coconut oil at that stage although I have now worked up to managing 1 tsp on its own for an emergency snack at work (I bring no other snacks with me as I found I just used to eat them, hungry or not)

dangermous, I have started giving my clothes to the recycling place that pays you - RedCloud Recycling in surrey. They send them all over the world where there is a need.

someone asked about pressure cooker lamb shanks - recipe here

B: parmesan fried chicken, lump of cheese 2 rashers bacon
L: lamb shanks, cauli cheese, broccoli
D: chicken curry

MaryBeardfanclub · 10/05/2013 13:39

I got up at 5.30am this morning and did my first 10 minute solution "blast off belly fat" Shock I really enjoyed it! But I could hardly do any of the exercises due to being totally out of condition. I love getting up early before the kids, sadly they are early risers so 5.30am it is!

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2013 13:45

springykitsch; having had my gallbladder out due to it being full of slush and mush; I cam empathise with you on the pain Sad

Are you on the waiting list to have yours removed? If so, I was advised to have only white meat and fish, skimmed milk, definately no cheese or butter. Basically as fat free as possible, as the gallbladder kicks in to help metabolise fat. I don't think gallbladder disease and low carb are happy bedfellows, unfortunately.

Still feeling like shite today Sad Things not going well from a food point of view either. I am mainlining throat lozenges and ate some Lindt chocolate bears last night for dinner washed down with lemsip. But....that's all I've eaten since yesterday lunchtime, if that's any consolation!

I'm wrapped up in bed today, re-reading Neris and India and will be ready to start again tomorrow, hopefully if my throat calms down. No yukky white blotches so not tonsilitis, thankfully, but it's bleargh whatever it is! I may bootcamp for another week though.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2013 13:47

Oh, and well done DangerousMouse! That is mighty impressive weightloss Grin

snowballinashoebox · 10/05/2013 14:09

I have just about survived a visit to our local farmers market, full of twinkly eyed young men waving plates of double chocolate brownies under my nose. I was caught between a cider stall and a fudge stall like a frightened rabbitGrin
But in the main I have emerged unscathed and have lovely things like smoked crevettes and spider crab meat, gorgeous olives and cheese.

marybeard I am very impressed with your 5.30 exercise.
lackadaisy hope you are feeling better soon, sounds horrible.

Have a good weekend everyone, thanks for all the encouragement this week.

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 14:18

hey everyone!

dangermouse I'm so impressed with your weightloss! I'm peeved because I've lost about 1.5 stone before joining bootcamp, and when I went to get some new jeans in Primark as the old ones were falling off, I had to buy the SAME DAMN SIZE! and it was tight on me. I swear they're making their sizes smaller.

Anyway,
B: frittata with courgette, mushroom and spinach in it
L: Savoy cabbage topped with creamy mushrooms and parmesan with 1/2 avocado on the side. Totally yum

D: Steak with something or the other non carby to make up for last night's honey disaster.

1lb down today yay!

The ILs are coming over tomorrow for food and football. I'm going to be good and stick with the non starchy foods come hell or high water.

WillieWaggledagger · 10/05/2013 14:48

this thread makes me so pleased i'm low carbing and not low fatting!

timidviper · 10/05/2013 14:49

Queen I am miffed because I have lost almost 2 and a half stone and am still in the same clothes, looser but still the same size! Amm looking on the bright side, thinking it's a marathon not a sprint, etc and am hoping I will whizz down the sizes faster once I start shrinking

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 10/05/2013 17:25

I am struggling today, I dont think I have eaten enough and all I want is cake - in bucket loads. Sad

B- 2 eggs scrambled in butter and lots of coffee

Lunch was some baby peppers stuffed with feta cheese, by god they were spicy! and some smoked ham - naice ham.

about 2 litres of water.

I am now very hungry, headachey and tired. Tired is because there was a gang of cats fighting right outside my bedroom window at 2am so not much I can do about that, the rest...

BlackAffronted · 10/05/2013 17:26

My friend made me the cauli-base pizza for lunc today, and I have to say, it was rather tasty! Think I will try making it myself sometime.

Timid, my dear twin, we will get there! Size 12, here we come Grin

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 18:02

Yeah definitely a marathon timid I've got a lot more to lose still!

Having said that, I've suddenly got killer cravings. Properly overwhelming. I think it's because DD force fed me a crisp earlier. I was fine until then and now I just have a craving so bad it's horrible!

Hmm, is there a recipe link for cauli-base pizza?

changeforthebetter · 10/05/2013 18:11

Hi all, think I am more boot camp lite tbh. However, I am amazed I haven't eaten bread or potatoes for two weeks. I lost 4lbs but boozed and had some sugar over the long weekend ('twas my birthday). Am feeling a bit bloated today but forgot to take my water bottle into school so not enough liquid. I am sticking at 4lb loss but assuming that will increase as I don't intend to booze/have a sugar-fest again for a good while) I still think this WOE is a great idea and, bar today, I have been spared the bloating and awful wind I usually get Blush

CiderwithBuda · 10/05/2013 18:14

Evening!

So looking forward to my dinner. Steak, celeriac dauphinoise and fried mushrooms with a little onion. Only a little as I only had half an onion left! Never had celeriac so could be interesting!

B was two poached eggs and some ham
L was salad with egg mayo with some cherry tomatoes and a couple of slices of pastrami that need using up.
S slice of cheese

Lots of water.

Tummy feels remarkably flat although no loss on scales for a couple of days.

I too sympathize with the clothes size issue. Lost 2.5 stone last year and went from a 22/24 to an 18-20. Felt like it should have been more! Desperate to get into a 16. A 12 is a complete fantasy!

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 18:21

I'm currently a 16, wanting to get down to a 10 at some point in the future, so I'll settle for looking forward to size 14 for the moment!

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 18:48

Hi all,

Another good day, though rather stressful, food-wise was good.

I am currently a size 20. Was a 22. Want to be a 14. 12 I can only dream of.

However, 4 more lbs and I will cross my second 'stone' - really hoping to get there in the next week Grin
