Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Wish you better DAISY.

BIWI · 09/05/2013 20:07

Sorry to hear that, LackaDAISYcal.

Go for alternative comfort - hot bath, good book, early bed.

BIWI · 09/05/2013 20:08

dawnpreview - why did you do that?! Cake and McDonalds?! Talk about self-sabotage!

Honestly. No-one else can do this for you. You really do need to commit to it, as it simply won't work. Low carbing is not a forgiving way to eat, unlike low cal/low fat. Please, please, please when the hen night is out of the way, make sure you know what you're doing - meal plan, chuck out the carbs etc.

LIFECHANGING NEWS!!!SmileSmileSmileSmile

I have just made a low carb quiche!!! With 'pastry' and everyfink!

The rather marvellous parmesan shortbread is the base which I blind baked. Mixture was cooked bacon and leek with cheese covered with a mixture of egg and dbl cream. SmileSmile

Am so chuffed. (I am aware that gr almonds are not bootcamp)

Tis for lunch tomorrow.

BIWI · 09/05/2013 20:11

How many carbs? Can you/have you put it on the recipe thread?

OP posts:
Ruprekt · 09/05/2013 20:16

Dawn....BiWi is right. You have to commit to it and not keep cheating or you wont lose.ConfusedConfused

There is honestly nothing I miss from my OWOE (old way of eating). And DH and I have substituted everything for low carb things.

Pasta.....courgette strips fried in butter.

Rice....cauliflower grated fried in butter.

Bread....didnt eat a lot of it anyway.

Pastry.....parmesan shortbread!!Smile

Have cut out cakes and biscuits anyway.

Ruprekt · 09/05/2013 20:20

Didnt weigh it all so will have to re-do to get it accurate.

Will it just be the almonds that need counting?Smile

WeOnlyPlannedTheFirst · 09/05/2013 20:32

Sorry I don't post often but just a quick question - what sausages can I have? Lidl do some 95% pork ones are they allowed?

BIWI · 09/05/2013 20:44

Check the carb counts on the back of the pack. If they are less than 3g carbs per 100g then they will be OK. The Black Farmer sausages are lovely.

(But remember, they are processed, so not to be eaten every day/at every meal!)

justpoppy · 09/05/2013 21:00

I was recommended the Lidl Nuremberg sausages WeOnlyPlannedTheFirst. Not sure what the carb count is but they are bloody tasty.

Hi all,

I have just read the VLCD thread and am tempted to give it a try - some of the ladies over there have had losses of 20lbs in 20 days Shock

I know it is not a healthy way to go but I so want to lose the weight. I had 5 st to lose back in January and I STILL have 4 stone to lose now!! It sounds like I could lose 4 stone really quickly on one of those diets.

Please can you give me a kick up the bum and remind me why VLCDs are no good for you. And why the weight would go straight back on.

Thanks,
Tree

Waves to newstartnewstory! Keep the faith, you know it makes sense Smile

Today is a lesson in what happens If you don't prepare:-
B Greek yoghurt
L- the intention was to go out and buy lunch. However I had no cover until I finished at 3-15 so stopped at aldi on the way home and Borg lots of low carb goodies.
I then ate a load of cheese slices and pistachio nuts o. The way to collect DC. Note to self - ensure you take something to eat to work!
D beef casserole with green veg

Ruprekt · 09/05/2013 21:09

Tree.....tis not sustainable.

The food is full of processed crap and as soon as you eat normally the weight goes back on.

With LCing if you read up on it, it is sustainable and healthy and it clears your skin, sorts out blood sugars and the food is fabulous!

What is not to like? SmileSmile

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 09/05/2013 21:09

Menus, quite dull but will post anyway Grin
Y'day
B 2 eggs scrambled with butter and cream
L little gem lettuce wraps filled with tuna/avocado/mayo mash up
D beef stew with loads of leftover LC veggies. Prob more veg than beef!
S couple slices cheese

Today
B 3 eggs as above
L not very hungry after B, so just a couple of slices naice ham with Philly and cucumber
D "cottage pie" LC style: mince sauce with extra leeks and mushrooms, topped with swede/shallot mash and grated cheese. Served with buttery spinach.

For those concerned about costs, I've just stocked up with loads of lovely LC goodies (yoghurt, cheese, cream, eggs, veggies, chicken, prawns) for 20 quid from Lidl, it really is a LCer best friend. Aldi can be good too. Remember we should be trying to eat the fattier cuts of meat and these are often cheaper than the "prime" cuts. Many people have had success with them done in slow cookers.

TreeLuLa · 09/05/2013 21:11

I know that you are right Rupe (can I call you that?) Wink

But it seems to be going so slowly for me!

I know that I feel great and am not hungry and am eating yummy food.

Maybe I should (finally) start my Shred DVD. That would probably speed things up.

Doshusallie · 09/05/2013 21:12

B - 2 boiled eggs. Actually 1.5 by the time alot of the egg had come away with the shell Hmm

L - big prawn salad (lettuce, celery, cucumber, mushrooms, mayo, loads of prawns)

Tea - chicken breast wrapped in cheese and bacon. Couldn't be bothered to cook any veg. Blush

Snacks - one slice of lidl's Edam, I pkt pork scratchings.

2 litres of water, 1 decaf white tea, 2 decaf black coffees.

Ruprekt · 09/05/2013 21:20

I love Rupe! SmileSmile

B bacon, 2 eggs, celeriac, mushrooms

L Broccoli soup

D 2 slices belly pork crisped! Broccoli and coleslaw.

Water
Tea
Peppermint tea

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 09/05/2013 21:26

daisy think it's safe to say that's the first, and almost definitely the last, time I have ever been imagined as Beyonce!! Grin thank you Wink hope you feel better soon.

BerylStreep · 09/05/2013 21:28

My DH has joined me, but is really irritating, because he can't be bothered to read up on stuff. I have the 10 rules on the fridge, which he has read, but I have just come in this evening to find that he has eaten 750g of greek yoghurt as a snack Hmm. He seems to think that this WOE means you can eat with abandon. He's sulking now because I pointed out that 750g of yoghurt (who actually eats that amount anyway?) = 40g of carbs alone, not to mention everything else he has eaten today.

Annoyingly, I bet the weight will fall off him, whilst I am still hovering around the same weight, despite doing it to the letter.

prettybird · 09/05/2013 21:34

Today:
B - yoghurt, cream and cinnamon
L - coleslaw (left over from last night) and cheddar cheese
D - chicken and vegetable broth
Snacks - slices of parmesan and quite a few almonds and two squares of plain chocolate Blush

Must get to Lidl tomorrow for more low-carb snacks. Grin

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 09/05/2013 21:38

Haha I love the way the low carbers are invading the "what do you have for breakfast" thread on Chat just now, lets go grab a few more converts!! Smile

Doshusallie · 09/05/2013 21:55

I know too much, it's a low carb ambush, HILAIR!!!

ChippingInLovesSunshine · 09/05/2013 22:01

Clare20 Great to see you - I'm glad you've come over to give it a go Smile

ChippingInLovesSunshine · 09/05/2013 22:02

AND for the love of all things creamy - who the hell eats 750g of yogurt??? I can barely manage 120g of the greek stuff which isn't that nice

couch25cakes · 09/05/2013 22:17

I've had a bit of a go at low carbing almost a year ago and life took a funny turn and I fell off the wagon. I want to start agin and once I've done a food shop can start when I like. But I'm going away next Friday night to Sunday with girlfriends to a hotel and I ow that'll be a huge struggle with drinking etc. I don't know whether to start this weekend for a week and then restart bootcamp for two weeks after I get back, or just spend next week reading up on it all, or do a lighter version before starting proper after I get back. What to do?
