Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

Hello, started the day with a big cup of bulletproof coffee and for lunch I had a salad with three eggs. Of course with plenty of oil and a bit of salt.

Took the LO to the aerodrome this morning and found out that there a regular bootcamp sessions. I am so signing up for one night a week.

newlark · 09/05/2013 12:56

Dh had to get up early to get a flight so I did some baking for breakfast - based on a Rose Elliot cheese and almond bread recipe but I substituted some milled flaxseed instead of 1/3 of the ground almonds as I didn't have enough and baked it in 12 muffin cases instead of a 1lb loaf tin. Quite tasty warm with butter or unsweetened peanut butter (allowed as I am on the veggie plan before I get told off) though a very dense texture. Will be good for breakfast or as a snack.

My official 2 week loss is 7lb as I started on the Thursday before the official start. Very happy with that - am going to gradually migrate to Bootcamp light after the weekend - I need a few berries on my yoghurt!

LackaDAISYcal · 09/05/2013 12:57

I am trying Toomuch, I really am, but I have an 11 year old serious addiction to conquer. I have cut back hugely, which is better, No?

Feeling shite this afternoon. Beginnings of a sore throat, nasty metallic taste in my mouth and my tonsils are looking ominously swollen and lumpy. This better not be the start of tonsilitis Angry I haven't had it for years.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 09/05/2013 14:31

I have a quick question - my greek yog says 6.6g carb - of which 6.6 is sugars, so does that negate the carb content?

confused... I ate the whole pot anyway.

sammisatt · 09/05/2013 14:44

Unfortunately not. You'd only negate the carb content if it was grams of fibre and I'm pretty sure in the Uk that labelled carb contents are net values anyway.

WillieWaggledagger · 09/05/2013 14:50

Sorry jax, sammisatt is right - UK labels are net carbs (unlike US) so you don't subtract the fibre, so that's the full 6.6g carbs for you there.

7g carbs isn't too bad, though it depends what you had with it of course

CrabbyBigbottom · 09/05/2013 16:25

I'm feeling so much better today (day 3) - felt grotty yesterday and the day before but today feel clearer and more energetic, only a little bit of a headache, and not nearly so hungry. It's definitely worth persevering with the carb withdrawal!

LackaDAISYcal · 09/05/2013 16:58

I was looking at yogurts the other day, and Asda do a big 1.kg pot of Onken live yogurt which is only 4.1g carbs per 100g, so not much more than Total (which is 3.8). But you get twice the amount of yogurt, for about two thirds of the price! It's not as creamy and yummy though which is the only downside.

Deearnamaternitynurse · 09/05/2013 17:41

I feel so I'll I'm not sure this diet is for me I can't think what isn't hurting the most I also have this horrid taste is this normal x

CrabbyBigbottom · 09/05/2013 18:08

How long have you been doing it Deear, and are you sure that it's the diet making you feel ill rather than a virus or something?

I had a strange taste in my mouth yesterday and felt quite fluey, I smelled a bit odd too, I think. Fine today though.

CiderwithBuda · 09/05/2013 18:08

How long have you been doing it Deearnamaternitynurse? I do sometimes get a taste but find cleaning my teeth and drinking lots of water helps.

Did you eat lots of carbs and sugar before? I would tend to think that if you are feeling really bad then you probably really need to do this to break the addiction cycle. Are you eating enough? Are you drinking enough water?

BlackAffronted · 09/05/2013 18:09

Lidl Greek yog is 3.6g (or close to that) and delicious and cheap. £1.58 for a piant can! Grin

BlackAffronted · 09/05/2013 18:10

I get a funny taste when I first hit ketosis. That means its working! It goes after a few days.

prettybird · 09/05/2013 18:15

The Lidl Greek yoghurt is brilliant: cheap and, even better, higher in fat than the Total Greek yoghurt! Smile

Lovely and creamy. Once you've broken the addiction to sugar retuned your tastebuds, it almost tastes sweet! I enjoy it with a wee bit of cinnamon ", other have it with some cocoa or vanilla powder.

PennyHofstadter · 09/05/2013 18:23

Just checking in, been ridiculously busy at work these last couple of days I've barely had time to eat anything at all let alone do some sneaky mumsnetting! I must admit, Monday was not a good day. A bit too much bank holiday cheer was enjoyed Blush but I've been sticking to it since and the scales are slightly under the weight I logged on the spreadsheet on Monday so hopefully all is not lost. I haven't had time to catch up with the thread but I hope everyone is ok and doing well.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 09/05/2013 18:26

I only had it with cinnamon, didnt like it though, would rather have it on its own. It was Tesco Greek yog. I have another little pot, but will let DD scoff it with berries.

Going to do an online shop with Ocado, so will have a look at their yogurt.

Its a bit of a trek for me to get to a Lidl, so not sure the petrol V savings would work out.

I did think it was net carbs in Uk, just ever hopeful Grin

sammisatt · 09/05/2013 18:35

B: sausages and egg
S hard boiled eggs
L: mackerel avocado watercress spinach rocket salad
D 2 small beefburgers with cheese, roasted cauliflower roasted asparagus

Are we allowed cocoa powder? I've just had a teaspoon with cream as the PMT monster is calling.

Yama · 09/05/2013 18:43

Snack tip for Bootcamp Lite: a spoonful of coconut oil with a few peanuts. Arghhh a la Homer Simpson.

sammisatt · 09/05/2013 18:44

I know I've been eating too much processed meat but i reckon that's ok for the rest of bootcamp as I've cut yoghurt, coconut milk and nuts, berries etc which is what is normally have for breakfast.

dawnpreview · 09/05/2013 18:52

I have not had a good week :(
Big slice of the kids birthday cake at the beginning of the week, and mcdonalds today. I have a hen party to go to on Saturday, which will involve pasta and alcohol.
I need a big kick up the backside :(

QueenofDreams · 09/05/2013 19:01

I found yesterday that a few sips of coconut milk worked fab as a snack. I don't have peanuts though as I'm trying Primal and they're a nono in primal/paleo.

DP just came home with loads of desserts and a big old bag of crisps. Tiramisu looking at me but I turned it down and he gave it to the kids [smug]

Yama · 09/05/2013 19:16

QueenofDreams - I'm actually going to try a dessert from the Paleo/Primal thread this weekend. Basically, you blend the hard portion of a (refridgerated) tin on coconut milk with some dark (cooled melted) chocolate.

I am going to be popular with the family. Smile

QueenofDreams · 09/05/2013 19:28

Mmm, sounds nice. I'll wait till I've got a bit more weight off before I try that though. Maybe in a few weeks Grin

Must find a Primal tiramisu recipe. I'd be in heaven!

TreeLuLa · 09/05/2013 19:32

Hi all,
Great to hear all the yummy things being enjoyed o this thread!
I've had another good day -
B - Total yog
L - celery and philadelphia, 1/2 an avo
S - Tuna steaks with creamy garlic mushrooms and asparagus. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Was amazing. And according to the scales have lost a lb since yesterday :)

LackaDAISYcal · 09/05/2013 19:45

The best laid plans...

Definately have a throat lurgy :( feeling really rubbish and have spent the afternoon shaking and shvering, so no lamb for me for tea

Instead I have picked at some mozarella, and am currently craving carbs. This is purely an emotional response though (carbs = comfort) so I'm trying to cast it out of my mind!

I'm off for an early night so I'm not tempted with things I shouldn't have!
