Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

GOML just watch with cheese as it can stall some people if you eat it in quantity like what I do

Rubybricks - I think you were asking about exercising when low carbing.it can take a couple of weeks for your body to get used to fat burning rather than carb burning. However once you are doing this ynhave loads of energy. Myself and hakfthesize ran every day in April (not far for me but enough!)
Mark Sissons website is great here about training when eating Paleo

QueenofDreams · 08/05/2013 20:54

Just finished dinner which was lamb cutlets, green beans and cauliflower mash (I've never tried cauli mash before but I loved it!) grand total 5g carbs for that meal as I weighed my veg.

I haven't worked out how much carb was in my lunch, can't be more than 3g I should think though, which would mean I've come in at under 20g for the day (I think Confused)

smallglass not just me referring to Mark Sissons then. It's reading his site that's convinced me to try eating this way.

Forgot who said they added me to the sheet, but thanks for that!

JustasmallGless · 08/05/2013 20:58

Queen - there is some really good stuff on there although I think Carrie may have had work done Grin

Some of the lads at work have converted because of that site!

Your menu sounds yummy and your carb count perfect

justpoppy · 08/05/2013 21:10

Have STS today - was hoping weight would drop a bit quicker as I'm on holiday in just over two weeks.

B - lidl yogurt
L - mini frittatas (chicken, leek, mushroom & Parmesan)
D - chicken drumsticks & veg
S - Slug of double cream
Drinks - 2 cups of tea and at least 3lts of water

Sweet cravings aren't so bad but still finding the evenings tough. A few grapes found their way into my mouth tonight while I was making ds's packed lunch.

MaryBeardfanclub · 08/05/2013 21:54

B: happy bacon, mini bacon and shallot frittata
L: lamb shank cooked in pressure cooker, broccoli, swede and cauli mash, cauliflower cheese
D: avocado salad, roast cauliflower a la Jamie Oliver, hm pesto, fried chicken pieces

dp on the road to recovery phew, have to go to a course in central london tomorrow, not looking forward to the crush on the train and tube. I am taking my trusty fried parmesan chicken as there will probably be nothing suitable to eat.

I bought some extremely expensive happy bacon from Laverstoke park, about twice the price of normal bacon and I did not like the taste. The streaky is ok but normal stuff had a funny aftertaste. And that white stuff came out of it when fried, I thought it would be free of that gunk.

CrabbyBigbottom · 08/05/2013 22:01

Thanks for the welcome Caramel and Black. Smile

JustasmallGless · 08/05/2013 22:09

Marybeard- how do you cook your lamb shank in pressure cooker?
Sounds ace. How disappointing about the bacon though.

Just poppy - dont despair. Keep the faith and measure yourself.
Weight loss isn't linear on this WOE but your body shape will change trust us!

Ruprekt · 08/05/2013 22:19

Had a lovely dinner. SmileSmile

Dh is away and I cooked a rump steak (£1.18 waitrose reductions) and served it with a leek, mushroom, cheesy cream sauce.

Delicious.

NewStartNewStory · 09/05/2013 01:26

willie You are fabulous, thank you very much!!!

Will past details be left in the past with the tweaked name? Curious to know that the original starting weight was and my last weigh in from last time around although kinda dreads finding out how much weight went back on

I think I am really looking forward to getting back on board. I am already rethinking bad choices. But i know until this weekend is over I am only setting myself up for beating myself up if i expect anything other then not sticking to plan. Monday will be interesting.

warzonemummy · 09/05/2013 06:29

Yesterday was.
B. eggs again
L. Broccoli and tuna with salad
D. Lasagne of aubergines

I am dying for some fruits. I was a big fruit eater. I can go without rice and bread for rest of my life but am dying for one tiny piece of fruit.

snowballinashoebox · 09/05/2013 08:03

I just can't believe the amount of energy I have since starting bootcamp. It's blimmin ace and another 2lb off this morningGrin

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 09/05/2013 08:12

mary i dont like the laverstoke park meat either. I know it is supposedly 'better' but the sausages taste awful. I buy Debbie & Andrews 97% sausage and they are nice. Also M&S do a proper meat sausage.

Bacon is a bit hit and miss, its either lovely or horrid. Best I have found is my local butcher.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/05/2013 08:34

10 stone 4 this morning so 2lbs off since yesterday. Strange old fluctuation.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 09/05/2013 09:08

Crabby your food looks AMAZING! Yesterday was pretty good for me - greek yog, then tuna crunch sandwich filler wrapped in little gem leaves, and a random medley of chicken, coleslaw, cucumber and a couple of bits of salami for supper. 2lbs down since Tuesday though! And already looking forward to salmon, asparagus and creamy leeks for dinner. I tried on a few dresses last night which has renewed my determination as still some favourites that are way too tight... Need to try and get into my only black dress in just over a week for a funeral, which is a weird sort of incentive...

QueenofDreams · 09/05/2013 09:33

Ok, breakfast: poached egg, asparagus, buttered mushrooms, spinach with a drizzle of hollandaise sauce.

Lunch will be lamb cutlets with some kind of veg

Dinner is scheduled to be pasta (eek) Will have to figure out how to replace that with something low carb without DP noticing and wondering what I'm doing. Garlic bread will be served as well (so carbs with more carbs, great meal)

mind you I've made it clear I'm replacing all those empty carbs with foods that have more nutritional value, so we'll see. I can just envision getting a lecture about how healthy pasta is Hmm 73g carb per 100g doesn't leave much room for other nutrition does it?

LackaDAISYcal · 09/05/2013 09:43

I have fluctuated upwards since Monday!

My own fault. Probably not enough fat and definately not enough water and I am reaslly struggling to give up the evil pepsi max Blush

Yesterday

B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter
L: Prawns stir fried in butter, garlic chilli and a squeeze of lime, with courgette ribbons
D: 2 sausages, 1 slice of ham filled with halloumi and 2 slices tomato
S: 4 slices of salami.

Too much processed I think Confused

I also had a glass of wine last night as I have had a fucking shitty awful week at work; emotionally and physically hard and employers being arses about it Sad. Buuuut, I am proud of myself for only stopping at one as normally I would sink the whole bottle Blush

Today:

B: 2 boiled eggs mashed with butter
L: prawn and avocado salad
D: Slow cooked Lamb shoulder stuffed with garlic and rosemary, buttered brocolli and swede mash (regular mash for the DC)

More water! Maybe if I put it in an empty pespi bottle it'll fool me? Wink

CrabbyBigbottom · 09/05/2013 09:46

You are a lb below my target weight! Grin

Thanks Heir dinner was bloody lovely. I was feeling crappy yesterday, headachey and tired, and couldn't think what to make for dinner. I ended up throwing lots of things in a roasting tin drenched with oil and the fat from the meatballs. I don't usually buy shallots as they're more expensive than onions, but cut in half and roasted they were delicious.

Celeriac mash is a thing of wonder, I can't believe it's not carby!

Another 2lbs off this morning. Yay!

CrabbyBigbottom · 09/05/2013 09:48
LackaDAISYcal · 09/05/2013 09:50

Queen, could you do courgette ribbons (lots of butter on) and serve them with the pasta sauce?

Tell him you are feeling bloated so cutting down on wheat to see if it helps?

My DH is not in the least bit interested in what I'm eating and wouldn't comment, but he knows I always fail at diets (been on one more or less since DS was born 11 years ago) and I think is expecting this to fall by the wayside as well, though he knows to keep his gob shut Grin. I am quietly determined to prove him wrong!

I agree on the cost though; it seems very expensive! Though I'm sure with planning it could be done on a smaller budget.

rubybricks · 09/05/2013 09:55

morning all.

hopped on the scales this morning and am still 7lbs off since starting, no change since monday but it is my TOTM so hoping that has something to do with it.

B: greek yoghurt for a change

off to look at the recipe thread for L & D ideas, your parmesan chicken sounds lovely Marybeard

thanks for that Justasmallgless, i am still feeling drained and going to take rest days between exercising until bootcamp is over - have bookmarked that site and will read (in tandem with the IPD book!) when time allows!

hope everyone has a good day Smile

WillieWaggledagger · 09/05/2013 10:22

NewStart - if you look on the spreadsheet under the tab 'Weigh-in to 6th January' your weigh-ins should be there under your old name

caramelwaffle · 09/05/2013 11:08

Good morning all.

Seem to be just under 4lb down already this week.

Am eating quite a lot of cream, cheese and fish.

Have a good day.

NewStartNewStory · 09/05/2013 11:09

thanks Willie. i clearly didn't do as well as i remembered last time Blush

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 09/05/2013 11:59

Hello newstart lovely to see you again, hope things go well for you!

daisy the pepsimax will be sabotaging all your other efforts, so we are shaking pompoms for you to GET RID! Tis evil, evil, evil stuff!

Whoever asked about coffee, there is conflicting evidence over whether or not it does give you an insulin spike. However, just personally I managed to cut down to one jolt a day, decaf the rest of the time. That one cup didn't seem to affect my weightloss. I think it's one of those situations you just have to judge for yourself. I love a tiny splash of double cream in my coffee now and am disappointed if a cafe only has milk! (Will take it black instead)

EwanHoozami · 09/05/2013 12:12

I'm basking in the glory of nabbing three packs of stewing steak down to 50p at co-op. my slow cooker will be busy! LC can be cheap if you're a reduction shelf lurker. I have no shame Grin
