Valdeeves · 02/03/2013 09:11

BIWI - sending some luck your way xxxxxx

Had a night out and drinks in weeks - just having soya milk tea in bed.
Surprised myself as had carbs (I'm on maintenance now) but not fussed about them. Haven't been able to get off the loo this morning so don't think my body likes them anymore. It's so bizarre after years of being a surgery twat/ inner gobbler!!!

Anyone got any nice plans for the weekend??

Ms Rinky are you celebrating? Remember champagne is ok! I want to hear about this job??

JakeBullet · 02/03/2013 09:43

Having experienced the difference in my energy levels and the weight loss I will never go back to carbs in my previous quantities again. The only exceptions will be planned treats such as a meal out but other than that it's low carb all the way for me now. I am still experimenting with recipes...the mashed cauliflower is a huge hit here.

I am going to put my autistic son on this way of eating too.....although as John Briffa says, "no harm in a small amount of potato for children" but I will make it a few small new potatoes instead and up the lower carb veg quantities and protein. DS has real food issues.....and will binge on Carbs.....if he can find nothing else he will actually eat dry pasta and dry porridge oats. So am ditching both once I wean off the pasta and see if his food cravings disappear. He managed to eat a whole punnett of blueberries while I was putting away the washing last night Hmm

DS friend is coming today so am doing Spag Bol...but will give them whole wheat pasta and reduce the quantity ...will up the meat quantity.
I am buying a cabbage today so will have mine on shredded cabbage instead. Should be worth it for the looks on their faces Grin

thekitchenfairy · 02/03/2013 09:47

Congrats MrsRinky, but sorry your contracts have dived BIWI. I am entirely freelance so feel your pain, I have just lost out on a long planned job to an intern... Second time this has happened Much cheaper I guess. And a reflection of the times we are in.

Had mums night out with wine last night. Great fun but think I have my first bootcamp hangover.

Well done Jake- a very inspiring start!

I appear to have a huge amount of veg to use but i dont want any of it, I just want celeriac and spinach! Red cabbage x3, swede... X2 cauli...I feel a pork belly roast coming on though DH thinks once a week is too much for this food of the gods!

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for uber bootcamp BIWI, I am 1lb down after a weekend blip... usually after 4 family birthdays I end February a good half stone up and despite bootcamp and all I have stuck to, I kind of assumed this would happen. But it hasn't. This is amazing!!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/03/2013 09:51

Red cabbage you can roast for something a but different - think Dosh did it? Basically shred ( i popped in processor) then lay in roasting tray, drizzle with oil, salt and pepper and roasr for about 15-30 mins. Some people put a tablespoon of water in at start or half way, there is a fine line between it burning so watch at end.

Iamaslummymummy · 02/03/2013 10:41

Morning all.

Its my birthday today so out for curry this evening. I'm not drinking as my anti depressants have just been increased so everything is already a bit blurred around the edges!

Heads up that aldi are selling pork belly next week. I think from Thursday.

WillieWaggledagger · 02/03/2013 10:51

Morning!

Sorry your feeling a bit rotten half, and sorry to hear about your projects biwi

Have got biwi's pork and coconut recipe from the low carb section in the slow cooker and it already smells good

WillieWaggledagger · 02/03/2013 10:52

Happy birthday slummy mummy!

BlackAffronted · 02/03/2013 10:54

Happy birthday slummymummy! I am off out for a belated birthday lunch myself in a wee while, with 8 of my girl friends. Shuld be good!

QuickLookBusy · 02/03/2013 11:06

Happy birthday SlummyThanks

I would second the roasted, shredded cabbage-absolutely delicious and very quick and easy.

Hope everyone has a good day.

EwanHoozami · 02/03/2013 11:12

Happy Birthday slummy enjoy your curry. Hope the weird feeling from the meds passes soon, I remember when I was prescribed prozac a few years ago I felt a bit foggy for a while. Not unpleasantly so, IIRC.

BIWI that's so bloody frustrating about the contracts. thekitchenfairy My DH has recently lost out when clients cutting are costs and trying to do the job themselves, or give it to an untrained 'friend' and it always goes tits-up.

I've been on-message with food lately but I have a few nights of meals-for-one again where I need some inspiration. Might pop to the farmer's market today (if a solo visit with two whiny small creatures doesn't feel too torturous)

FurryDogMother · 02/03/2013 11:31

Happy birthday Slummy!

Tonight, I have somehow been 'volunteered' to cook a Chinese meal for 6. In someone else's kitchen (sigh). I'm going to make the pork char siu low-carb friendly, and the crispy duck - but other than that will be cooking up a carb-fest for my friends (Singapore noodles, egg fried rice, Kung Pao chicken, beef with ginger, prawn crackers, maybe sesame prawn toast) and just avoiding eating it (after doing a load of cooking I'm not usually very hungry anyway).

Still off the smokes, 'vaping' happily on my e-cig, and hoping that the full rechargeable kit arrives on Monday - I've got some interesting flvaours coming, including chocolate! I may not be able to eat it, but vaping it should be carb-free!

Yama · 02/03/2013 12:02

So, what is everyone up to this weekend?

After a couple of weeks of sunshine, it is rainy here today. Fairly bright though.

We have been to the farmers market - bought some eggs, goats cheese, turnips and non-homogenised milk (for the kids). We have also viewed a house.

Next is swimming lessons, another house viewing and then getting the house ready for friends coming over tonight.

I love weekends where we have a few things to do but lots of relaxing and being in and around each other's company. Smile

pyjamalover · 02/03/2013 12:22

Wow so much gong on! Have been awol this week.

Congrats rinky and hazchem
sorry to hear about your terrible monday bessie

kind of glad to hear other people struggling with sticking to it not just me! Had 3 good eating days despite being on nights (again!) and having very tough shifts (obv can't go into why), then an ok day followed by a terrible one. Its a weird feeling when i overeat, i know it will make me look worse, feel crappy, have abdo pains and sleep badly... A no brainer one would think! Determined to do this now.

Realise that finding it tough to stick to is nothing to do with the carbs, i would just like a woe where i feel fab and lose weight but can eat entire packets of biscuits all the time. If anyone knows of one please let me know!

I have a whole list of good reasons to do this properly (not going to bore you with them) and really need to keep focused.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

JakeBullet · 02/03/2013 14:18

Hmm! Made the cream cheese pancakes with peanut butter today and tbh thought they were a bit meh! Might play around with the recipe a bit....they were very eggy.

littlermissstan · 02/03/2013 15:08

Happy birthday slummy! I am revelling in not having anything to do this weekend after weeks of birthdays and weddings. So have had my hair cut, bought ribs for dinner to have with coleslaw and salad, and made home made pork scratchings - not too successful there, they are a little burned and the flat smells gross now...

IShallWearMidnight · 02/03/2013 15:22

I'm being spectacularly strong-willed at the moment, as there is currently three quarters of a loaf of tiger bread sitting on the table calling to me, but I am NOT GOING NEAR IT Grin.

Ruprekt · 02/03/2013 15:49

Jake - I use half a pack of cream cheese for the pancakes.

Serve with dbl cream and blueberries!!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 02/03/2013 16:51

Hello all, just checking in quickly, busy weekend.

BIWI I'm so sorry to hear about your contracts. Horrible to be all excited about it and then have the rug pulled from under your feet, especially when it's been shaky for you anyway. Not surprised you've been giving into alcohol (I don't even need that much of an excuse to sabotage myself with it), especially with all the celebrations too. Go easy on yourself and get back into strict bootcamp when things are a bit steadier - it's a longterm WOE for you so a bit of time just treading water on maintenance will be fine.

MsRinky I'm so pleased that you got the job! My wine-addled post the other night was meant to say something along the lines of that it was great that your colleagues thought you looked great - sure that helped your confidence in the interview and helped get you the job - well done!

Today:
B: kipper, spinach, poached egg
L: chorizo and green veg broth (thought I had kale but didn't, so just bunged in whatever was in the fridge - courgette, spinach, broccoli)
D: we are out for a fortieth tonight and there will be "canapés" Hmm so will eat something before I go.

Am feeling sad today as DH and I had a silly argument last night, and also fighting off a cold. But will try not to let that sway me into drinking too much tonight.

thekitchenfairy · 02/03/2013 17:01

They are a bit eggy but I quite like the pancakes with pnb Jake... I added vanilla extract and had with clotted cream and a little cocoa.

Happy birthday slummy.

Roast cabbage sounds Delish Grin, I'm going to try the cauli mash tonight too.

Hope everyone is enjoying fab weekends.

halfthesize · 02/03/2013 17:22

eve all, I have added a pic of me in New dress for BIL's 50th, think it's third on profileGrin

JakeBullet · 02/03/2013 17:33

Well dinner was easy....bolognese on shredded cabbage with salad including half an avocado.

Now I am ready for my nieces 18th Birthday bash tonight ....am planning on 1 alcoholic drink (am driving so will be a vodka and something) plus some party food but will optimise this as much as possible and will enjoy it.
