Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Evening all
Grin

DH has promised to look after DS again tonight. Yippee!!

Sadly DH also decided to have a bottle of wine so I don't think he will hear DS' wailing in his wine coma sleep. Never mind.

14 hours was quite something. Another few nighs of this would really recharge me.

Anyway I hope everyone is ok. And I have fully caught up on thread.

Yama I hope you feel ok!

Sweet dreams all. Smile

debs39 · 02/02/2013 22:14

BIWI for some reason my phone won't let me respond to your message. But I take on board what you have said to me. Thanks.

timidviper · 02/02/2013 22:18

I have been good for the last few days but made some truly disgusting swede chips for tea tonight, really nasty texture so tea was almost all protein.

Am off to check the recipe threads now. I'm just a bit wary of making anything that derails my learning to eat more healthily IYSWIM. I don't want to be a misery guts but I really feel that when I did SW or WW I didn't really alter my bad habits, I just found lower calorie chemical shit alternatives to what I normally ate. I don't want to do that this time, I want to get into a healthy sustainable WOE.

Ruprekt · 02/02/2013 22:38

timidviper - what was wrong with the swede chips?

We had those tonight and they were delicious! DH said he would rather have those than normal chips!

Another great day today.

GinotPrigio · 02/02/2013 22:47

Hee hee, yes 8 weeks, not 1!

Oh details....ok...what do you need to know? We're getting married in London (lived there till last year). My dress is being made so I still have time to drop a few pounds to look a bit better in it! What else??

Platoon I too am wondering about whether I should re-introduce some carbs before long runs. I have a 9 mile run tomorrow so I will see how that goes. Apparently 2 hours is the optimum time to take on carbs before runs. I will investigate it more though!

timidviper · 02/02/2013 23:16

Ruprekt I don't know if mine were not as cooked as they should have been. They weren't hard but were a bit woody or floury somehow in the middle. Did you parboil yours? I usually do with celeriac but didn't with the swede. Please tell me how you did yours.

Ginot and Platoon Would you not be better getting some carbs from nuts or something? Rice sounds a bit too carby to maintain ketosis although I am no expert on anything to do with exercise.

GinotPrigio · 02/02/2013 23:36

Timidviper I'm still exercising eating only veggies for carbs, but am training for a marathon so I know there will come a point when I will have to take on some more instant forms of energy. Trying to find out as much info as I can at the moment but my research so far suggests that if you consume carbs shortly before long periods of exercise, you will remain in ketosis. I think its different for everyone though, so will take a bit of experimenting!

Valdeeves · 03/02/2013 00:10

BIWI - just a quick question? You mentioned too many carbs knocking you out of ketosis? I thought it was about sugar don't know why?

Skandi - sllllleeeeepppp! Fab news!!!?

I've had a too carby, sugary wkend due to a planned event I wanted to lose some weight for. So back on the wagon for me tomorrow. Really miss the crunchy taste in food at the mo - need to get onto these crackers!

SavoirFaire · 03/02/2013 00:22

Planned cheat for me today as a great friends birthday party which involved whine and - gasp - a slice of pizza! But I looked very good in my dress even if I do say so myself!!!

B: yogurt with cinnamon
L: scrambled egg with spinach, goats cheese and broccoli
D: beef casserole with various lc veg and salad
S: 1 Alice of ham pizza
All the usual water and 4 glasses wine............

littlermissstan · 03/02/2013 00:45

MrsHoolie · 03/02/2013 01:11

BlackAffronted I shall add the creamy chicken recipe to the recipe thread tomorrow.

MrsHoolie · 03/02/2013 01:21

Skandi ,14 hours of sleep, how wonderful.

And btw I do shop at Beckenham Waitrose sometimes!

BlackAffronted · 03/02/2013 07:21

Morning. DS has got me up far too early :( DH is going to swap with me in an hour though Grin

Had a takeaway last night, we had friends over. I chose a chicken satay starter, tried to remove as much as the sauce as I could, and had a portion of stir fried veg. That came in some sort of watery gravy/sauce too :( So no idea how many carbs I had even though I chose what I thought was best. Expecting a gain on Monday now. Also had 1 small vodka.

Iamaslummymummy · 03/02/2013 07:58

Made the ipd moussaka last night. Was a bit disappointed Sad

We have a new rescue puppy Grin he is taking loads of my attention atm gets kitchen towel out Grin

Iamaslummymummy · 03/02/2013 07:59

I had salt and pepper chicken wings on Friday. There was a coating that I'm not sure what it was. Also had Chinese chicken curry. Seemed so sweet. Whoops

sybilfaulty · 03/02/2013 08:23

I had monkfish and chorizo stew with roasted cauliflower last night which was glorious. Will add to recipe thread.

I too am training for a swimathon in April - need to swim 2.5k in 1.5 hours. Left it too late to go swimming this morning, but will try to manage twice in week. Am impressed by the runners. I have tried Couch to 5 k about 4 times (along with Pistey and Nell) but have never really cracked it and started enjoying the run. A pal who started it with me is doing a half marathon next month. Ooops.

Girls, I go the Waitrose in Beckenham from time to time too. I shall look in everyone's trolleys to see if I can spot a fellow LC er. Do you think we should have a sign like the "baby on board" badges?

Coldethyl - I have a fainting condition maybe similar to yours.
I'm going to make an assumption that these tips might help:

  1. Way too much water - try two litres. If you are anything like me the salt levels in blood are not quite right and need topping up - too much water stops this happening.
  2. More spinach, avocado and salmon to keep electrolytes stable - I have spinach pretty much every day.
  3. Add a bit more salt to food is nessessary? (This is only if you have been advised by doctor though.)

I've had all of your problems and the cramps - it's the water causing the problem. I reduced it from 3 to 2 litres and I improved.

Valdeeves · 03/02/2013 09:09

Oh hang on you said four pints!!! That's not too much. Hmmmmm let me get thinking cap on again

Valdeeves · 03/02/2013 09:11

Are you eating enough meat? Really you need to have good portions of meat to make it work? I eat alot of meat to balance off.

cathyandclaire · 03/02/2013 09:17

Hey Iamaslummy I'm with you on the kitchen roll Smile my pups ALL have diarrhoea Sad they're not ill but 9 of them pooing all night definitely put me off off my meatball goulash and onto the red wine
Feeling verrrrrrry jaded today, may follow your lead Skandi and get Dh to do a shift < muses> or maybe the kids
Coffee for breakfast, can't face anything else at the moment.

Coldetthyl- have you tried a cup of Bovril? That seems to do it for me?

JustasmallGless · 03/02/2013 09:58

Hmm. No point trying it if you don't like it. The whole point of this woe is to enjoy food. Have you tried increasing your foods with potassium in such as spinach, salmon, avocados etc?

Or have those electrolyte replacement drinks?
