Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

BlackAffronted - you need to give me the weights I'm afraid. It's the peppers that will make a difference, but I don't want to guess as some can be massive!

BlackAffronted I'm crossing my fingers for your recipe as it sounds very similar to my favourite home made soup. Except mine calls for 3 red peppers!

QuickLookBusy · 02/02/2013 17:51

Afternoon everyone.

Just wanted to ask about skipping breakfast. I did it today and its been ok. I was wounding if you are meant to skip it everyday, every other day or just a few days a week? Thank you

Today-
L-hallioumi with Parma ham and avocado salad
D-chicken curry (made with Patak curry paste, tinned tomatoes and cream) with sainsburys Saag Paneer(4g of carbs per portion)
S-berries with a spoonful of cream

BIWI · 02/02/2013 17:56

I think Briffa would say that, as long as you're not hungry, you can do it as often as you like.

Hello everyone

I slept till 1pm today. Uninterrupted.

A total of 14 hours. Unheard of.

I feel sort of hungover after all that sleep.

Given that, I obviously missed breakfast so today so far looks:
L- eggwhite omelette cooked in coconut oil.
S- two teaspoons of peanut butter (the Waitrose one which has 3.9g of carb p 100g)
D- will be steak topped with melted blue cheese. Avocado salad and maybe portabello mushroom with grilled cheese.

Also had one coffee but it was with splash of milk as cream was finished.

Been to Waitrose to stock up and they were sold out of chocolate extract - must be a fair few of you who shop in Waitrose in Beckenham.

I saw the various LC biscuits and tiffin cake ideas.

With the cake/tiffin type stuff, you need almond flour and egg and butter to hold it together.

Also I looked into sweetners etc. all of them are almost 100% carb!!! Even Stevia types are 97% carb. Admittedly stevia doesn't provoke an insulin response but its hopeless for low carb. And it frankly has a funny aftertaste.

So my answer is, if you absolutely have to sweeten a dessert or cake/tiffin, use agave syrup. It's 75g of carb p 100g which is lower than any other sweetener. And it taste very similar to syrup or honey and without any after taste to spoil it.

That said its better not to but if you use sweetners anyway, just be aware that all of them are almost exclusively carb and are sold as a "healthy" low calorie alternative to sugar. Which is pointless as its exclusively carb based.

I had an idea of making panna cotta but without any sugar/sweetner. Just the cream and vanilla powder. However it turns out gelatine is 20g of carb p 100g. Hmm So back to Greek yog with vanilla powder.

This is a bit naughty but. I found soy milk with hazelnut (alpro hazelnut) and it only has 3g of carb p 100g. And it's very very tasty.

Hope your weekends are good. And thanks again Bessie for the lovely PM. Grin

Does anyone think Skandi may still be sleeping?

Ruprekt · 02/02/2013 17:58

haha!! Massive cross post! How funny!

BlackAffronted · 02/02/2013 18:03

I have horrible, horrible bloating! Its from either the sugar free sweets or the flaxseed, those are the only new things to my diet this week. What can I do to ease it off? I look pregnant! Shock

BlackAffronted · 02/02/2013 18:03

Skandi, I am soooo glad you got a decent kip!!

BIWI · 02/02/2013 18:06

Probably the sugar-free sweets. The polyols (artificial sweeteners) can do terrible things to your digestion.

Lots of water is probably the best thing!

Skandi so glad you got a good sleep.

Truvia carbs cannot be used by the body so they are not processed and shouldn't be counted in any carb count. As BIWI has provided links to before, sweeteners should be avoided as much as possible, however for me, as a diabetic I am better to use sweeteners in small amounts rather than sugar as my body personally can't cope with even small amounts of sugar and would require me to inject insulin. For most normal people I would think very small amounts of natural sugar would be better, as long as they are small.

I find that by eating as natural food as possible it doesn't really become a consideration, obviously when I am off plan it makes me realise how crap my diet is!!!!!!

BlackAffronted · 02/02/2013 18:11

I ate them 3 days ago :( and its still not going. I feel like I need to prick myself with a pin! Grin

BIWI · 02/02/2013 18:13

Well - you know rule 10?

That's one of the reasons ..... Grin

Just dropping in quickly whilst dh is on the phone- skandi how great you slept so long:) did your ds get your dh up much? :)

I think I have been eating too much red meat so I am going to put a stop to it for a few days and eat veggie instead. have a bit of an upset tummy but I think it's the result of the carbs in the form of the small drinks I had this week.

B- fried egg, mushrooms, bacon and leftover broccoli and green beans in garlic
L- wagu beef and green beans
D- lamb chops and Aubergine bake thing dh did.

Snack - bit of Brie. Dh has been doing all the meals as he has been off a couple of days except breakfast, so I just don't have the carbs.

Water. Is there any way of making my own fizzy water?

thekitchenfairy · 02/02/2013 18:19

skandi respect indeed, overdue, well deserved and no doubt sanity saving Grin. Glad you have had such a good rest.

Thank you littlermiss DH has come home with the most amazing Cornish sirloin... I've given him instructions for the gratin, so fingers crossed! There is tiffin in the fridge and ice given up trying to explain to him why this is a healthy WOE, ive just given him the Barry groves book with instructions to read!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/02/2013 18:21

Lavender - soda stream for fizzy water. Saves us a fortune!

BIWI · 02/02/2013 18:25

Lavender - why are you worried about red meat? No need to be! Veggies, whilst lovely, will just add more carbs.

OP posts:
Ruprekt · 02/02/2013 18:29

Fizzy water is 17p in Tesco! 2 litre bottles and it is lovely.

LavenderBriggs · 02/02/2013 18:52

We had chicken egg fried rice with prawn toast. The rice was cauliflower and the prawn toasts were ground almonds, omega sprinkle, butter and prawns (BIWI, you were right, they needed chilli flakes, but I forgot).

Very full - thought today was a falling off the wagon one as I had a Lemsip and it comes in at 10g of carbs, but I feel so much better it was worth it. DH very happy with his dinner (he spent hours cleaning today so I wanted him to have something nice)

Hope you're all having lovely weekends. cracking sleeping skills there Smile Wouldn't you be using a tiny amount of gelatine - not 100g?

BIWI · 02/02/2013 19:09

So what was the recipe for the prawn toast? I'd love to do those!

Yama · 02/02/2013 19:10

I'm in awe of your 14 hour sleep Skandi. You clearly needed it.

Had lamb chops and creamy savoy cabbage for dinner and it was delicious.

I'm sitting on the sofa contemplating a peppermint tea (with coconut oil) while dh and the dc tidy up for my parents coming tomorrow.

BIWI · 02/02/2013 19:11

Well, sad to say that using ground almonds didn't work, so no lovely crackers quite yet. It tasted lovely, but just crumbled away.

But I have had an idea - I blitzed it all again in the processor, so it's now crumbs, and I'm going to have a go at making Scotch eggs, and use this as the outside crumb.

My next experiment will be with coconut flour for the crackers. That is more carby, but it may work better.

skandi 14 hours - High five!

I'm about to sit in front of a daft movie and eat what promises to be an amazing spanish sausage casserole. I found some saffron that my mum bought back from Iran and it is so beautiful.
