Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Oh and I forgot to say (how?? wasn't my post long enough?) that tahini stirred into yoghurt is also very good. I like mine with a bit of lemon juice in too, but do not have a very sweet tooth.

Valdeeves · 31/01/2013 23:29

Ah BIWI - doesn't surprise me you run your own business - you sound pretty fab and dynamic! Hope more business comes your way.

I made what can only be described as an Aubergine mess as I got talking to a poorly friend on the phone and burnt it.
So tea became full fat yoghurt with a splash of cream.
Currently trying to dream feed a baby who just wants to dream....

Valdeeves · 31/01/2013 23:29

I'm a teacher : )

mumat39 · 31/01/2013 23:30

Littlemiss, thanks for the tip about the coleslaw. :)

Herecomesthsun, I'll be trying the cocoa and cream tomorrow. Good idea about sandwiching the cocoa in between the cream before mixing.

Yama, sorry you've had a bad hospital visit today. Fingers crossed you get the blood test results tomorrow, and don't have to wait for a week. Hope the pain eases soon. ((()))

ToomuchWaternotWine · 01/02/2013 01:03

yama ouch, feeling for you, I do hope it can be sorted soon.

Iamaslummymummy · 01/02/2013 07:27

Dh had a major blow out last night having done over 31 days with no drink. He told me he had 10 pints and then a bottle of shotz when he got home. Shock

His appearance was totally different than yesterday morning - bloated, red rash on him, just... Fat. He felt terrible.

What's the best thing to do? Just water and strict boot camp?

WillieWaggledagger · 01/02/2013 07:39

yup slummy, plenty of water - why not eggs, bacon, mushrooms cooked in butter for breakfast (this WOE is not too bad for hangover food !)

JustasmallGless · 01/02/2013 07:42

Yes- those of us experts in this matter

JustasmallGless · 01/02/2013 07:44

Ooh Yy to hangover breakfasts. The only thing I would advise is for him to keep eating LC during day with plenty of fat as how blood sugar dips

WillieWaggledagger · 01/02/2013 07:52

yes, and be aware that he may well crave carbs like he never thought possible (ref. gless's point about blood sugar), so keep low carb snacks handy

catinboots · 01/02/2013 08:04

Oh oh oh. I bought some ketostix yesterday and they turned purple GrinGrinGrin

I know we're not supposed to but I find them 'motivational'

I am just not hungry at all. Not one bit. Just ate some leedamer cheese and salami for breakfast. Now starting on my water. Going for a pub lunch with a friend today and have had a sneaky peek at the menu. It'll be either a salad or a steak.

Does anyone have any exciting ideas for what I can do with some chicken thighs tonight? Needs to feed everyone....

captainmummy · 01/02/2013 08:22

Breakfast today was flaxseed crackers (made yesterday) spread so thick with butter that i could see my teethmarks! I actually made them to have with pate but prefer butter now any day.

Cat - chicken casserole? Or try de-boning them and stuffing with cream cheese.

skandi1 · 01/02/2013 08:29

Morning everyone!

Just want to say a big thank you to all of you for the support.

Val. yesterday was truly horrendous. DS excelled himself by letting me have less than 2 hours sleep total between weds and thurs. I went for nap when he went for his but the flipping decorators woke him after 15 mins so DS spent the rest of the afternoon screaming because he was tired.

I was ready to murder someone!! And DH came home and thought I was "whining" and that "it's not really that hard to run a house and look after 2 DC". And proceeded to tell me about 5 star hotel in Paris and dinners at Michelin starred establishments (and obviously 9 hours sleep).

I am sad to say it was the straw that broke the camels back. I went completely off at him and we had a row. And "D"H isn't speaking to me. Hmm

Anyway taking DD to preschool now but back later.

And I am sorry about the pity party from me on here but I am a saddo with no support in RL. Smile

Iamaslummymummy · 01/02/2013 08:31

Thank you. Fry up it is

Spanish chicken ipd recipe is lovely

EwanHoozami · 01/02/2013 08:32

catinboots chicken thighs are great as they're higher fat than breast, cheaper and tastier too. I love 'em.

something really interesting I tried recently was japanese curry switching onions for shallots and serving cauli rice for me. I think miso paste is OK carb wise if you don't go mad.

Otherwise I either marinade in soy, ginger, sesame oil and five spice or doing a sort of spanish chicken thing if I have green peppers and chorizo knocking about.

I marinaded them in mayo, lemon juice and paprika a few weeks ago and that was delish.

Valdeeves · 01/02/2013 08:41

Ewan - I will be trying those ideas!!!

Skandi - I feel your pain - why is your DH being so unsympathetic? What's his problem? Hacking no sleep makes every day just that little but unmotivated and depressing - I have an older boy and he has regularly had his moments but when we first had the baby I was lucky if I got two hours between them. Stick on this WOE though as losing weight will give you a boost you really need right now? Do you live in North or South?

OMG - I'm starving this morning - just really not eating enough to be honest as life getting in the way. Hopefully eggs and bacon for brekkie.

EwanHoozami · 01/02/2013 08:42

skandi so sorry about your row. Does he give you a chance to catch up on sleep at the weekends? Sleep deprivation is such torture. My DS1 has a sleep disorder and is 3.5 so I have maximum empathy. It's so fucking hard sometimes. Your 'cloak of tiredness' comment a while ago really resonated with me. Have a sneaky hug and a Brew

BIWI · 01/02/2013 08:53

Oh skandi1 - what a shitty thing for him to say.

I suggest that you pack a bag and disappear somewhere overnight leaving DH to have the children. After all, how hard can it be?

Find your nearest Travel Inn/Premier Inn and book yourself in overnight. Seriously. Do it.

Skandi and Yama - I hope everything gets better for you both soon

I am feeling good today, I've lost a pound this week (so far) which I'm pleased about. I've been right back on it and haven't cheated so thats almost 8lb off now. It's better to have 8lb off than on! Breakfast is some FF yogurt, snack is celery and FF philly. Not sure about lunch yet but dinner will probably be some steak I've got in the fridge. I made meatballs last night which were lovely. Will definitely have them again. I put a little blob of blue cheese in the centre of them which added extra fat and flavour.

NoveltySlippers · 01/02/2013 09:13

Morning all

Yama - am so sorry about your pain at the moment. It sounds dreadful. Hope you're taking it easy and people in RL are being good to you. Hope the new consultant gets it sorted.

Skandi Really sorry about your 'D'H. I have friends who've been on the receiving end of this comment and it's not nice. Maybe take up BIWI's suggestion? That'll 'learn' 'im!

Choos so glad you're enjoying the continental brekkie/snacks. I had no idea the simple combo of ham and cheese could be so satisfying. And I don't mss the bread at all!

PostBellumBugsy · 01/02/2013 09:20

Crikey Yama, that sounds awful. Hope they get you sorted out soon. Enjoy the visit from your parents.

Skandi - definitely bugger off for at least the whole day on either Saturday or Sunday - if not the night too. Go to a friends, go to a healthclub, go to parents - book yourself a hotel room for the day (it is possible). Put your feet up & sleep. Your DH will be fine - because it can't be hard can it?

BIWI - had your creamy, peanuty thing last night & OMG it was to die for. Didn't have any greek yoghurt, so I just whipped up some cream, put a teaspoon of peanut butter in & half a teaspoon of cocoa powder and it was beyond yummy. I didn't have a proper supper (quite simply ran out of time), just a few bits of cheese & pepperoni, so it hit the spot perfectly (and I still managed to only eat 20g of carbs in the whole day!).

Xenia · 01/02/2013 09:25

Agree with BIWI@s suggestion re Skandi (or go back to work full time - I found when I worked full time (we both did) when we had babies it was heaps easier than at home and then you don't get comments from another half like that either)

BlackAffronted · 01/02/2013 09:42

Catinboots, fry the thighs til teh skin is crispy, then cook in the oven. Make a creamy garlic & mushroom sauce to pour over. Yum!

QuickLookBusy · 01/02/2013 09:57

Skandi sorry your h isn't being sympathetic. I agree with the suggestion to pack a bag and go and stay somewhere. You will get a good nights sleep and he will get to realise what you are having to cope with.

I'm fed up this mornings I've put on a lb. I think it may be peanut butter, if I feel a bit peakish I have a little spoonful, I think I may be misjudging how much I'm having.
However I'm doing the 30 day shred 3/4 days a week, so I might try to convince myself it's muscle Wink

thatgirlsevil · 01/02/2013 09:59

Hey everybody, I've been really busy so haven't had time to check in for a few days. It's extremely heartening to hear of everybody's losses, reading through all these new recipes (MUST HAVE THAT TIFFIN!) and I'm especially looking forward to exploring and posting on the low carboy food porn thread (good call).

I think I'm back on track to losing. I'm 126.4lbs this morning (starting at 139) and I bought some ketostix yesterday and am very pleased to report that I'm registering a deep purple on the little diagramy thingy.

My menu for today,

B - 2 Rashers back bacon, sautéed mushrooms in butter, Steve's leaves, chilli flakes, fried egg
D - Something light, small tuna salad perhaps.
T - Roast pork shoulder with crackling, samphire, celeriac gratin....roasties, apple sauce and stuffing for DP and DS.

I made the celeriac gratin for the first time last week and it was TO DIE FOR. DP went absolutely bonkers for it and had 2 helpings. Today will be the first time we try samphire so I'm rather looking forward to that.
