Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Yama - sorry to hear your news, and that you are in pain. That's rubbish. Sad

I restarted bootcamp yesterday so am trying to avoid nuts, seeds, etc which is hard for me.

Have done well so far today though:
Bacon, sausage, 2 duck eggs scrambled with a little cream
Fish topped with cauliflower cheese (leftovers from yesterday)
Snack- 2 small slices pork
Avocado with prawn mayo, pork chop, mushrooms in philly and cream sauce, cauliflower, baby carrots

Still have to wean myself off Diet coke though Blush Don't tell BIWI!

Yama sorry to hear of your troubles Sad

Hope everyone else is ok, I read everything but seem to miss out huge swathes of posts by the time I come to post- sorry if I've missed anything

B- yoghurt and cream again
L - prawn cocktail
T - pork steaks with buttered spinach and braised red cabbage (no brown sugar or apple added)

Yama · 31/01/2013 20:03

You are all being very kind.

Now someone tell me why there is nothing on tv? Kids have been asleep for over 15 minutes and I'm in my jammies. Perfect tv conditions. Dh is going to make me watch something crap I tell you.

littlermissstan · 31/01/2013 20:03

Yama, that sounds horrid, I hope you are feeling alright.

Just popped in to report that the celeriac feta spinach bake thing was GORGEOUS, I added some chopped up streaky bacon and had it with some roast chicken thighs. Was intending there to be leftovers for lunch tomorrow but DP wolfed the whole rest of the dish, which though annoying is good as it can go on the list of LC things he will gladly eat :)

Valdeeves · 31/01/2013 20:23

Quick - what can I add to halloumi to bring out the taste herb wise?

SavoirFaire · 31/01/2013 20:23

Oh Yama you poor thing. I really feel for you. Do you mind me asking what kind of rod you have? I have 2 Harrington rods for same reason (fitted 20+ yrs go) and no one has ever mentioned to me the possibility of them breaking! Uncharacteristically MN big hugs from me and I hope the reality is better than it sounds right now. Did something specific happen to break it? (Feel free to ignore this if you don't want to get into detail).

BIWI · 31/01/2013 20:25

Make a dressing of:

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 finely chopped clove of garlic
salt/black pepper
finely chopped coriander

Jac - I hope the funeral goes as well as it can tomorrow.

Yama - have you got some good pain relief? Poor you.

Bullet - OMG - love Jenny Packham. I never looked any good in her stuff though when I was trying on - too short and dumpy! She has made alot of Kate Middletons evening dresses hasn't she ? Have you tried Alan Hannah or Pronovias?

Skandi: how you feeling today?

BIWI - you really good do this as a job - you really are totally on the ball. What is your day job? (Sorry nosy - but I'm guessing its a good one!)

What a day! House hunting with little DD then off to big city hospital for her premature baby check up. She cried for 25 minutes solid in the car and I wanted to cry myself - long car journeys with a baby are stressful.

Breakfast - quick scrambled eggs with butter
Lunch - none - no low carb options in hospital coffee shop - no time for restaurant.
Tea - something nice with Aubergine and halloumi any tips ladies?

Ruprekt · 31/01/2013 20:31

Blimey Yama! That sounds horrible. You poor thing.

B- Continental style with eggs

L - 2 bowls broccoli soup with parmesan

D - Salmon with proscuitto and mozzarella with creamy leeks and red cabbage and swede chips. Dh said it was amazing!

Later I will have FF yoghurt with 25g blueberries
Peppermint tea

BIWI · 31/01/2013 20:32

Grin/Blush

I run my own market research company, Valdeeves. Currently not very busy/not much work, hence being here all the time!

SavoirFair - yes, I have a Harrington rod. My op was in 1991. My surgeon was close to retirement and did the traditional operation. By 1991, there had been advances elsewhere. I had to wear a cast over my body for 10 months.

My consultant today was actually trained by my old surgeon. When did you get your Harrington rods? And was it for Scoliosis?

And, thanks everyone for your sympathy. It really has made me feel better.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 31/01/2013 20:46

Val There are 2 Pronovias gowns on my shortlist ( one is very JP and the other is full on fairytale!), I haven't heard of Alan Hannah - will google! I'm probably tall enough for JP but waaaay too lumpy!

Yama · 31/01/2013 20:48

Sorry, have just re-read your post SavoirFaire. You said it was for the same reason. Do you get pain?

Consultant today said it wasn't terrible that it was broken.

It's just so weird that the break is exactly where my pain is. Up near the top.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 31/01/2013 20:49

Oh dear, just googled Alan Hannah. They are my kinda frocks! Bet he's well expensive Confused

helpingout · 31/01/2013 20:49

Evening everyone. Friends have started to notice my weightloss too which has given me a little boost. It seems to be coming off my waist first. Wish it would hurry up off my thighs!!!

B - natural yoghurt
L- roast pork with broccoli and swede
D - homemade burgers, mayo, rocket salad with dressing.

I am getting used to black tea which is something I never thought I'd say.

Bessie123 · 31/01/2013 21:14

I Alan Hannah dresses. But we can't afford to get married.

yama sorry to hear abou your bad day. I hope you are feeling a bit better and things don't look so shit.

I just ate a mini veggie marshmallow. biwi how much damage will that do? It was just one and it was worth it

captainmummy · 31/01/2013 21:25

Dosh - I did assume your tbsps to be level, (ie 15g) but as BIWI quite rightly says - it might be a heaped spoon. In which case I suppose amounts would double. I didn't want to suggest that celery was a high-carb veg - MFP puts it at 4g for 2 medium sticks, but then the 'fibre' has to come off too, which I think was 2-3g of it (can't remember now)

Helpingout - that's fab. Always a boost when people start noticing (until they start saying 'don't lose too much now, will you?' )

My day ;
breakfast - 1 pickled egg (mum gave them to me, i am working through the jar but they are definitely not my favourites)
2 coffees with milk at work
lunch - iceberg lettuce with grated cheese, coleslaw, mayo.
2 lattes with a mate (with a totally adorable 4month old baby - probably burned off a few cals just bouncing her and grinning)
dinner - some celeriac chips (not many, celeriac was going over so had to chop off a lot of brown bits) with a fried egg, half tomato and mayo.
Coffee with cream.

Lots of coffee today, mostly de-caff and too much milk.

2 ltires water.

SavoirFaire · 31/01/2013 21:28

yama yes although nothing major - it's mostly background low level pain that i am totally used to. Worse since DCs though. Nothing that would worry me though! 1992 for me, 2 rods but never had a cast which was lucky so I guess some difference in the procedure. In the north west. Literally never heard of breaking before. Will have fingers crossed for you!

timidviper · 31/01/2013 21:38

Crap, I just got a BIWI deathstare!

I know carrots aren't good but it was baby frozen ones (4.4g carb/100g) and I didn't have many. I struggle with veg on bootcamp as I hate green leafy veg, broccoli, sprouts, etc and my celeriac had gone all dry and hard which threw me somewhat. Will make leeks in cream sauce tomorrow, mmmmm!

timidviper · 31/01/2013 21:45

Spreadsheet has some carrots as 2.5g, which ones are they? Are they baby carrots? I wonder why my frozen ones have more in, they are those tiny little ones.

I had convinced myself that veg under 5 was ok but have just re-read the rules and spotted the magic number 3. Oops!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 31/01/2013 23:00

Yama that sounds really scary and horrible - hope they find the source of the pain and can do something about it.

Littlemiss glad you enjoyed the celeriac spinach feta bake! All the other people I served it to (DH, DB, his gf) had no idea it was a low-carb "diet" food! Grin

Val Ottolenghi does a really delicious mozzarella marinade that I often use the leftovers for to marinade halloumi in and then griddle - it's something like toasted fennel, garlic, lemon zest, rapeseed oil (I often use olive instead) basil and marjoram. Really good. A simpler version is just fennel seeds, lemon and olive oil. I also often use harissa as a marinade for halloumi and then griddle but no idea on the carb counts on that.

BIWI you are absolutely right about the wine I am really struggling with that one. Down another pound today so I guess I didn't knock myself out of ketosis after all. It wasn't very much sugar - I am actually not having any sugar cravings at all (except for the wine) - it was a seaweed salad that I had never before realised had sugar dressing before, but now tastes horribly sweet.

Except I am still having snacks so that is why I was worrying I wasn't in ketosis - but I guess I must be if I'm losing, and it must just be that my body is reacting differently (I had a really dodgy tummy the first week and hardly ate so maybe catching up now I'm stable again and adapted?)

Today:
B: (on the run) hard-boiled eggs with celery salt
S: salami and cheese with coffee (loving that continental style snack - thanks whoever it was (I think Ewan/Novelty or both?) who put me onto that one!
L: broccoli and stilton soup
S: chicken broth with kale
D: Out to turkish local with girlfriend for halloumi, lamb/chicken shish, aubergine and yoghurt dip, lots of salad, a gin and soda (they didn't have diet tonic) and a very small glass of wine.
