Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Big spoonful of milled flax seed in my FF yoghurt last night has done nothing to 'shift' things Sad

How long does it normally take?

Valdeeves · 01/02/2013 11:05

Are you drinking warm water too?

halfthesize · 01/02/2013 11:06

Morning all[coffee] flying visit and quick catch up.

skandi & yama I really hope things improve for you soon.

Jac thinking of you todayThanks

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 01/02/2013 11:15

skandi so sorry to hear your notsoD H is being so unsympathetic and unsupportive.

Has he forgotten about also managing all the decorators, electricians etc etc?

I read that one dies from lack of sleep before lack of sleep - apparently a normal, healthy adult will die from lack of sleep after about 5 days (whereas food is about 16). So, he needs to take it seriously, and you should definitely if you can go away leaving him to it and catch up. Wish there was a hugs emoticon on mums net (sod it being unmumsnetty) Thanks

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 01/02/2013 11:16

Yes Jac thinking of you today also Thanks

cathyandclaire · 01/02/2013 11:16

I've admitted defeat and stuck my weight on the spreadsheet, been strict after cheaty cheaty weekend but still 1.5lb up. I'm not surprised I've been housebound with pups so not exercised and have grazed through the day, the fridge is just too damn visible!!
B:2 low carb sausages, egg
L: Cheesy, hammy leeky bake
D: Pork belly with creamy mustard sauce and buttered cabbage.
Onwards and downwards...

Lavenderhoney · 01/02/2013 12:25

Have been doing very well but dh opened a bottle of champagne last night as there was one in the fridge so I had a couple of glasses. I had a lovely LCD breakfast of fried eggs and left over veg, then lunch of mezze which I didn't have any bread just the olives and dippy things. I have a feeling I have knocked myself out of ketosis and have been drinking water - how long to get my body back on it?

On the plus side my doc said my weight loss was remarkable:)

Skandi, your dh is being very unhelpful. Not surprised you had a row. Has he apologised yet? And to ramble on about his big trip and his michelin * dinners!
Sleep dprevation is a terrible thing. Are you doing cc or doing loads during the day and feeding him up to sleep through? I went for the 2nd option as I am very soft and imagined all sorts wrong as to why he couldn't sleep.

Could your dh pay for a night nanny and you go to a hotel or stay with a friend for the night? A night nanny who is very experienced will be kind but have dealt with it all loads of times before?

I want to slosh with water and get my bloated tummy down ESP as its a bit upset.

mumat39 · 01/02/2013 12:30

Someone, whose name i can't remember said Re ketostix, that purple is a sign that you're in ketosis, but it should be a light pink colour that you need, dark purple means the ketones aren't being flushed out, so you need to drink more water.

Light pink means traces of ketones. So get drinking!

Doshusallie · 01/02/2013 12:31

[thanks Gless for totally outing me as a booze fiend] Grin Grin

I had drunk 2 litres of water before 10am this morning. Shock

greek yog for brekkie and about to go and make a smoked salmon omelette to have with coleslaw [drool]

Now what can I do with sausages this evening that isn't boring?

Doshusallie · 01/02/2013 12:33

oh and am determined to get rid of sugary cereal in this house so gave the boys carte blanche to eat whatever cereal they wanted this morning to get rid of it. DS1 had bran flakes with cheerios and DS2 had crunchy nut cornflakes with weetabix! I will not be buying anymore.

mumat39 · 01/02/2013 12:36

Skandi big hugs to you(((())))

Your H sounds a bit like my DP. I remember when I was in labour with my first dc. The midwife gave a mattress and blanket to sleep on. So he did. All night. I was awake all night with a midwife who was serious falling asleep standing up. The next morning he woke up and kept going on about how tired he was. Unbelievable!

If you can, do what BIWI suggests. I don't know where abouts you live, but if you need help, just ask. I'd be happy to come out with your DS so ou can get some shut eye. I hope that doesn't sound too stalkery. I also have no rl support nearby so can understand how guard it must be.

Take care.

mumat39 · 01/02/2013 12:39

Ooooh Doshu, what will you give them instead?

I know it's still wheat but the original shredded wheat doesn't have sugar in it and raisin wheats are tasty. they are also sugar free and the raisin inside makes them sweeter.

It's incredible how many cereals that are targeted at children often have sugar as the 2nd or 3rd ingredient listed. They shouldn't be allowed!

mumat39 · 01/02/2013 12:42

Happy to come and help out with our DS...

And how hard it can be...

Sorry, terrible typing this morning plus stupid autocorrect = gobbledygook.

mumat39 · 01/02/2013 12:50

Your DS, obviously.

JustasmallGless · 01/02/2013 13:22

Here to help Dosh Wink
I did say we though!

I am with you on the cereals - DS only eats porridge cereal wise and loves omlettes. DD is a bit more tricky as a fussy eater and loves her toast.

Hmm

Skandi - haven't got time for a full post but get that Travel lodge booked for this weekend. You need a break lovey and some kip. If he is away travelling then he needs to pull his finger out and help.

Are any of us nearby? If so am sure someone would have them for a bit so you can sort all this out. Sending big hugs

Doshusallie · 01/02/2013 13:29

Hi Mum - well I will probably still buy Bran Flakes, Shredded Wheat and Weetabix, porridge - as at least they are wholegrain. But I am now offering only those, and whole grain toast with pate or cream cheese. Jam, pancakes, crumpets, chocolate spread and the more sugary cereals are going out the window. Will also offer yoghurt and fruit sweetened with a bit of honey. Just feel so hypocritical that they eat so much crap when I don't due to health reasons. Their diet is actually very healthy and I am very lucky in that they eat ANYTHING, salmon, all veg, soups, etc, but I need to keep an eye on it. They don't have pasta or rice very often anyway.

thatgirlsevil · 01/02/2013 13:39

mumat39 - That was me...and I tested when I hadn't eaten or had water for at least a couple of hours...about 1pm. Later on yesterday evening (after 2.5ltrs) I was definitely a lighter colour.

I've been religiously drinking between 2-3 ltrs everyday but if I do register dark purple again then I'll consider upping the intake.

I've just walked to Co-op and purchased all the ingredients for the tiffin mentioned earlier in the thread...unfortunately they didn't have flax seed Sad...do you think sesame seeds might work as a substitute ...I have ALL the other ingredients and I want my tiffin damnit.

pyjamalover · 01/02/2013 13:41

Skandi totally agree with going away for a night, you really need some sleep, you will make yourself ill!
Yama sorry to hear about your back.

Am suddenly finding this hard, physically its fab, but if at home now find i just want to eat, its not hunger but entirely, i dont know, habit? Emotional? Am not succumbing to proper rubbish like biscuits or chocolate, but overeating big time on yoghurt and a bit on nuts. Any advice/psychological tricks to deal with this? Really don't want to derail myself.

ToomuchWaternotWine · 01/02/2013 13:53

pyjamalover the only thing I can suggest is what someone told me to do on the first bootcamp I joined, which was to ask yourself the following questions?

Am I actually hungry? Or am I bored, fed up, sad, or possibly thirsty?
Does my body really need this right here, right now?
And think, "I have eaten this before. I know what it tastes like. I will eat it again in my lifetime, I am not saying never have it again. I just don't need to eat it, right here, right now."

If after that thought process, you are still hungry, then eat, enjoy, be mindful of every mouthful. Don't stand at the fridge or sink and shovel it in. If you are really hungry, take the time to plate up, set out cutlery at the table, sit down and enjoy properly. If you can't be bothered to do that, then you are not really needing it.

HTH (in the non sarcastic sense)

PostBellumBugsy · 01/02/2013 14:03

pyjamalover, I have really struggled with the eating for no reason thing too. For me, it is largely habit. I was in the habit of having a biscuit with a cup of tea, because for some reason tea on its own wouldn't do. I was in the habit of just browsing throught he cupboard for "a little something" even though I wasn't hungry. I was in the habit of rewarding myself with a snack after I'd done something I hadn't really wanted to do. I was in the habit of having a snack if I was a bit bored.

But we all know that food is not a reward, is not a solution to boredom is not something that has to be consumed just because it is there!!!

I think you just have to accept it takes a while to get out of the habit. I've lost weight really well with this WOE in the past & I know that I will get to the point where I just stop thinking about food. I'm 5 weeks in this time, as I started on 28th Dec and I am already noticing that I am alot less interested in food, than I was when I started 5 weeks ago.

So, give yourself a bit of time. I found making a drink instead of eating very helpful, as well as removing myself from the kitchen!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 01/02/2013 14:04

lavenderhoney a couple of glasses of champagne should be OK (is the lowest carb of the wines) provided you didn't eat anything else too carby yesterday - and drink lots of water today.

skandi I meant that one dies of lack of sleep before lack of food - sorry, typing too quickly! But that stat might help your D oops I mean O-H to take it seriously. Will see if I can find where it came from.

BlackAffronted · 01/02/2013 14:07

My local grocers delivers wee bags of ingredients called "soup in a bag". For just £3 you get a brown bag with all the ingredients you need to make a big pot of soup! Its fantastic. Today I made broccoli, courgette & basil and it was to die for! I have put a pic in the food porn. The other soup he was delivering was red pepper & lime, which sounds amazing but I am guessing too carby? You even get a wee pot of herbs & spices to add, as well as fresh herbs. I swapped the onion for a shallot though. I just ate 2 bowls Blush and added a wee swirl of cream to add some fat.

BlackAffronted · 01/02/2013 14:12

PJLover, a friend of mine is a hypnotherapist, and she helped me with my "habit eating". It wasnt so much emotional, as boredom and just plain habit snacking! She made me an mp3 that I listen to once a week (less since starting this WOE) and thats the only thing that has ever helped me. This woe definitely lessens it though.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 01/02/2013 14:14

Hmm it seems the book I read that cited that was exaggerating - there isn't any evidence to prove humans die, and five days is incorrect as longer periods of sleep deprivation with no permanent ill effects are on record, but studies in animals suggest that humans would die eventually through lack of sleep:

pyjamalover · 01/02/2013 14:21

Thanks guys, really comforting to hear its not just me, always been ashamed of how damn greedy i am!

Like the idea of really thinking before eating, will get there eventually.
