Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Black affronted - that sauce sounds good - I might try that one.

Starfish Enterprise - those Seisures sound similar to mine (going blue) - mum and dad had a hard time with mine but I was fortunate in that they found a very effective treatment. I hope the monitoring will help with your little one - is it a ECG did you say?

Skandi - are you getting anywhere with the house?

Well I'm absolutely knackered today - looking forward to some mega mushroom and ham scrambled eggs! And a almond tea - my treat these days. Hope you all have a good low carb day.

Doshusallie · 31/01/2013 08:06

Stole someone's idea (novelty?) and had a little bit of Greek yoghurt left in the tub mixed with a generous splash of double cream for brekkie. Y to the U to the M!!! Grin. Also had one of the breakfast frittatas that are still kicking about.

Loads to do today, gym this morning, lots of bloody client plans to write at the behest of new boss, [gutted] and food shopping at some point Hmm. Better get these boys to school.

WillieWaggledagger · 31/01/2013 08:10

starfish you sound like you have a lot on your plate, so good to hear that this woe helps!

i made leek, cheese and ham bake for supper last night (surfeit of leeks in the fridge), it was delicious, though i didn't have creme fraiche so substituted cream cheese and double cream mixed together

BIWI · 31/01/2013 08:36

Novelty I remembered something I made up sometime ago, in the last Bootcamp, which I hadn't put on the recipe thread. It might be right up your street:

1 dessert spoon peanut butter
2 dessert spoons Total full fat yoghurt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean extract

Mix the lot together then shove in your gob!

It doesn't sound like much, but it's incredibly rich and the texture means it's incredibly satisfying.

Then I did some counting/calculating:

2 level teaspoons peanut butter (mine is Whole Earth smooth, 9.9g carbs per 100g)
4 level teaspoons yoghurt (full fat Total, 3.8g carbs per 100g)

If you just mix this together, this will be 3.5g carbs. It makes a small but very rich treaty snack.

You may like to add vanilla - I used vanilla bean extract. This contains sugar (I've run out of the Waitrose one which is sugar-free). There is no nutritional info on the pack, so I have assumed the worst, and that it's the equivalent of adding sugar. You only need 1/4 teaspoon, though, which will add another 1g of carbs.

You could freeze it, I suppose, and I was also wondering if, rolled into balls, you could make some lovely after dinner 'chocolates' - either rolling them in cocoa or coating in melted dark chocolate.

You can also buy a chocolate extract from Waitrose/Lakeland which might be lovely in this too!

Chocolate extract

Waitrose sell these extracts too.

Morning All

Sorry I have not been near this thread all week. The funeral is tomorrow and I have spent most of the week helping to organise things. Makes me feel very grown up. Mind you I am 43, I should feel grown up.

On a totally trivial matter I have bought a lovely black dress to wear. I feel very trim in it. This time last year it would not have gone near me.

Thanks again for all your messages.

Angry WHERE IS SHE? Angry Gets out bow ) and arrow ---->

'NOVELTYSLIPPERS. I AM GOING TO HUNT YOU DOOOOOOOWN.'

GUESS what I dreamt about last night? Guess.

Peanut Butter. Reeses. I had banished these from my mind and now they are back at the forefront of my mind.

BIWI - I demand you come back with your big stick!

WillieWaggledagger · 31/01/2013 08:50

morning jac, hope you're ok and your family and dh too. i hope tomorrow goes as well as can be expected

BIWI · 31/01/2013 08:51
Grin

But did you eat them in your dream?!

OP posts:
WillieWaggledagger · 31/01/2013 08:51

lol ruprekt - at least dream sweets are zero carbs!

Ruprekt · 31/01/2013 09:00

Too right I ate them in my dream. The peanut butter stuck to the roof of my mouth and was completely delicious!

Still - zero carbs and they were yummy!

Tonight I would like to dream about pie and mushy peas! Grin

NoveltySlippers · 31/01/2013 09:01

Ruprekt I am so sorry. I deserve every inch of your ire. I am now sitting on my metaphorical naughty step. (Am in the office so if I sat on a real one I might get funny looks.)

How can I make amends?????

NoveltySlippers · 31/01/2013 09:02

Oh wow! Looks like BIWI's come up with the answer!

That recipe looks bloody brilliant BIWI!

Can't WAIT to try that!! Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 31/01/2013 09:03

there's nothing quite like the relief though of waking up after dreaming about carb binges and realising that you haven't cocked it all up!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 31/01/2013 09:03

I am feeling very Envy today, DP has lost 8 1/2lb, I have only lost 2 overall Sad and he cheated big style at the weekend.

NoveltySlippers · 31/01/2013 09:22

Sorry to hear that Bullet!

NB. I do hope no-one thinks I was 'showing off' about colleague's comments above; it was a celebration of this WOE, rather than my own progress!

And so nice to think that as well as getting ourselves healthy, this WOE can even help us inspire others!

BIWI · 31/01/2013 09:43

bullet - it's a bugger isn't it? But it's a sad fact that men do lose weight easier and faster than women.

You have still lost weight. You must remember that fact. 2lbs = 4 packs of lard!

Valdeeves ths lack of LC options in coffee shops drives me bonkers too. I know carbs stretch further and are therefore more profitable, but the profit on a three-egg omelette would also be pretty good, surely?

Novelty I love hearing about the positive reactions people are getting, it's not showing off it's inspirational! My Low-Carb-Good-News story of the day is that I've made £200 by selling my size 16 clothes on Ebay. Huzzah!

Jac lots of love to you for tomorrow.

B: Lidl yog
L: cold chicken and homemade coleslaw
D: butter-roast courgette and feta salad

Xenia · 31/01/2013 10:04

Coffee shops I suppose replaced the traditional 1600s and 1700s UK coffee houses. They have always been a place you meet without alcohol where you go for a hit - in a sense they are drug stores. You either get your hit of caffeine or sugar in your hot chocolate.

If you avoid fruit( as well as milk, caffeine, sugar, aspartame, carbs) I suspect there is nothing in them I eat except perhaps tap water. Not surprising I do not frequent them (and they are very expensive).

Ruprekt · 31/01/2013 10:05

(o)

bulletwithbutterflywings · 31/01/2013 10:06

It is indeed a bugger! I don't think it helps that I am in a foul mood today, just about ready to rip someone a new one Blush Grin
I really was hoping to have lost a bit more as I am trying wedding dresses on again on Saturday... including a silky Jenny Packham number that will highlight all my doughy bits! But hey ho, I've found a restaurant that has some lovely low carb options so I won't be tempted to cheat on my day out dress shopping except for a glass of wine at lunch.

Ruprekt · 31/01/2013 10:07

I'm with Xenia.

Take a flask!!

Saving carbs and money!

Anaisa · 31/01/2013 10:07

+1 here for post c-section overhang. After the first one it was not too bad, but the second one has finished my body off - 5st to lose to get into any kind of shape, horrendous stretch marks and a massive tummy. My 4 year old announced that he only wants DH to go put him to sleep in the evenings, but kindly added "Mummy, i will sleep with you when your tummy gets smaller" Blush. I keep saying to myself that it's only been 8 weeks since my second c-section, but I don't think I can stay in maternity clothes for much longer without feeling really depressed. Urgently need to lose a stone to get into my regular clothes.

I have lost really well in the first two weeks, but nothing after that Sad. Getting a bit disheartened as I have been really good.

Scandi - I am beginning to think that it is sleep deprivation that is stalling the weight. In that case I have no hope Wink.

PostBellumBugsy · 31/01/2013 10:44

Hope tomorrow goes as well as these things ever can Jac.

Novelty - great news on the ravings of your colleague. It is so lovely when people notice. Smile

For chocolate cravers, I make a kind of tiffin:

one rounded teaspoon of cocoa powder
one rounded tablespoon of ground almonds
one rounded teaspoon of coconut flour or dessicated coconut
one teaspoon of ground flaxseeds
half an ounce of butter
one teaspoon of sucralose or artificial powdered sweetner

Melt the butter & stir in all the dry ingredients, if it looks to dry add a little more butter.

Spread out on a plate / dish etc. Pop in fridge for 30 mins.

30 mins later enjoy delicious crunchy low carb tiffin. Whole thing only has 5 carbs. I often have this for breakfast.

PostBellumBugsy · 31/01/2013 10:45

Sorry I've just noticed an error in the tiffin ingredients:
It should be:
one rounded tablespoon of coconut flour or dessicated coconut
