Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Wow Postbellum - that looks absolutely delish!

LavenderBriggs · 31/01/2013 11:12

Morning all. Bit of a stressy day here, problems popping up like daisies on a lawn.

One tiny problem solved - DH fancied cake - he mentioned it a couple of times in the last day or two, so I made almond pancakes for breakfast. I put some flaxseed and goji berry in along with a nip of cocoa. DH very happy, cake yearning has gone. Me - I feel as if I had some sort of rocket fuel for breakfast - it's like food only better. Breakfast minus two hours - still feel stuffed and might have to go for a walk/run/dance in the street to lower fuel level.

For those of us who haven't lost in week 3 - read what BIWI said about week 3 and don't feel down about it.

Post can your thing be done without any sweetener?

PostBellumBugsy · 31/01/2013 11:20

Lavender, I have tried it without sweetner & found it almost inedible. The cocoa is just too bitter.

Maybe it could be made without the cocoa - like a kind of biscuit?

EwanHoozami · 31/01/2013 11:22

Post good LORD that tiffin sounds luscious. I'd have to leave out the flax as it brings me out in hives Confused

LavenderBriggs · 31/01/2013 11:23

Maybe if I add less cocoa. I could use my flaxseed and goji berry, because two hours after brekkie I've still got a slight berry taste in my mouth, so they may be sweet enough. Or I just have to track down the flaxseed with cocoa and strawberry. Will have to pop out and buy coconut (I can't sit still!) and have a go at the recipe.

PostBellumBugsy · 31/01/2013 11:25

Ewan - when I have run out of flax, I use sesame seeds & if I can be bothered I smash them up a bit in the pestle & mortar to make them a bit more crushed.

EwanHoozami · 31/01/2013 11:28

Ooh. I love sesame.

Funnily enough, I was about to extol the joys of tahini on celery sticks as a snack Grin

Xenia · 31/01/2013 11:36

History of UK sugar trade which shows some interesting stuff about the early coffee houses and addictive properties of sugar and their impact on the UK.

NoveltySlippers · 31/01/2013 11:53

Lavenderbriggs - do you have the recipe for almond pancakes? I looked on the LC recipe thread and couldn't see it. I want some of that rocket fuel!

NoveltySlippers · 31/01/2013 11:54

Xenia will have a look - sounds very interesting.

BIWI · 31/01/2013 12:05

Anaisa

I have lost really well in the first two weeks, but nothing after that . Getting a bit disheartened as I have been really good.

Did you not read the posts I've written about weeks 3 & 4?

You have already lost 9-10lbs, which is fantastic! Thanks It's very, very, very common for weight loss to stop in these two weeks - and not impossible that you might put a little back on. It is entirely normal. Something to do with your body re-adjusting from being a carb-burning machine to being a fat-burning machine! It's nothing to do with you being badly behaved. (Assuming that you really haven't been badly behaved? Wink)

Just keep on keeping on, and the weight will start to shift again soon. But be prepared for it to be a slower rate of loss from now on. Slower is better and more sustainable in the longer term.

Hello all! Feeling much more positive today despite the weekend's binge still showing on the scales, I think it's something to do with the sunshine down here in Dorset.

Greek yog for breakfast, salad with salami and coleslaw for lunch and for dinner I am having a go at the celeriac bake that choosandchips mentioned the other day - have persuaded DP he will like it! Re DP, he has been mostly having my evening meals and has been complaining of a bad stomach (he has mild IBS) the past couple of nights - could it be this change in diet? He's still having sandwiches at work so not totally LC...

Novelty, I have to hide from the Reese's in Waitrose... My well-meaning colleague presented me with two Oh Henry bars this morning too after a visit to the American sweet shop. They are BURNING their eyes into me sat on my desk...

And Bullet, am totally Envy at trying on Jenny Packham - waaaaaaaay out of my budget but so very very pretty - enjoy!

Right, lunchtime I think...

Doshusallie · 31/01/2013 12:15

The ONLY thing I ever have in coffee shops is decaf Americano, sometimes with a splash of pouring cream. Had an altercation with a polish bird manning the Cafe Nerro booth at Waterloo the other day when she tried to tell me the squirty cream was the same. Er, maybe in Poland love...........

"lunch" (so far) has been a decaf black coffee, tablespoon of Sainsbo Basics PB (addicted) and a boiled egg.

Anaisa · 31/01/2013 13:11

Blush BIWI - I did, I did read it and I am very pleased with the 9lb off (I so knew I was going to get into trouble for moaning :-))My only cheat was overdoing it on peanut butter one evening, so 3/4 of the peanut butter jar were binned to avoid temptation.

Got a telling off from my DH this morning for wanting too much too soon. He is not following lc per se, but eats what I cook when he is at home. He lost about 4-5lb which he is very pleased about as he is tall and lean anyway and only wants to lose a few pounds that crept on in the last couple of years. Envy. So a big thank you from both of us Thanks

mumat39 · 31/01/2013 13:29

jaca hope tomorrow is not too difficult for you all. I'll be thinking of you. (())

novelty how lovely of your friend to say that, it must be really motivating.

Anaisa kids can be so cruel. My DS came home from nursery yesterday and declared he wanted another mummy Sad

littlemiss, what do you do with the cabbage when you make coleslaw? Does it have to be sliced or could it be chopped in a food processor?

postbellum. That tiffin sounds just yummy! Do you think it would work with extra coconut instead of the almonds?

I was wondering about making a chocolate mousse thing with double cream and some cocoa powder and some grated dark chocolate. Would that work, do you think?

I made a blueberry icecream at the weekend with frozen blueberries pulsed in a blender with double cream and it was really really good. The frozen blue berries help turn the cream into a soft scoop ice cream.

ToomuchWaternotWine · 31/01/2013 13:30

Morning all, I've not been posting much as I lost track of the last thread, but am going to keep up with this weeks one, hopefully!

Thanks to jac and froufrou so sorry for your bereavements, hope you find comfort in good memories once shock has passed.

I have put on half a pound this week. Not surprised really, as its TOTM, the dreaded week 4, and I've had a couple of small slips. I am on my second "term" of low carbing, lost 20lbs on the last block and think I would like to lose about another 6/7 lbs to get down to my magic number of 145 - I am 5'8".

skandi just to add support to you in your sleep deprived haze, I really hope you find something that works. Do you have any family/friends nearby that could take Ds, or stay with him in your house while you go to theirs, so you get a decent nights kip? Or can you book a hotel for yourself for a night when your DH is back, leave him with the kids and have a nice steak dinner, a bath, read, and sleep as long as you like until its time for a hearty eggy hotel breakfast? (Can you tell I think about this a lot?)

So my aims are to drink more water, was getting lazy on this, going back to my old trick of drinking cooled boiled water from the kettle as I find it easier to slosh back a couple of mugs of that than freezing water from the tap. Also to up the veggie and salad count, as I was getting a bit meat cheese and egg heavy.

Keep on keeping on everyone!

herecomesthsun · 31/01/2013 13:46

I whipped some double cream with some cocoa powder, very nice, have been eating a tablespoon with 1/2 dozen berries. Mind you, I like the bitterness.

mumat39 · 31/01/2013 13:51

Oh. Next time I think I'll make the blueberry icecream with a bit of cocoa powder too. Yum.

Did you whip the cream with the cocoa ? Or do you have to whip the cream first then add it?

PostBellumBugsy · 31/01/2013 13:53

mumat - if you have coconut flour, then yes, I think you could get away with dropping the ground almonds. If you are using dessicated coconut, you may find that it won't bind properly, because the dessicated coconut is not as absorbant.
Hope that makes sense!

BIWI · 31/01/2013 13:56

mumat39 - there's a lovely recipe for 'pots au chocolat' on the recipe thread. From memory, they are around 5-8g carbs per serving.

OP posts:
littlermissstan · 31/01/2013 14:00

mumat I just slice as best I can with a big knife, but I'm sure you could use a processor if you wanted it a bit less chunky!

mumat39 · 31/01/2013 14:02

Ooh. Thank you postbellum. I'll try and get hold of some coconut flour!

Biwi, thanks for that. I was avoiding cocoa powder as the carbs per 100g is higher than 3 but will definitely have a look at the pots au choc recipe.

Xxx

On the ice cream front - I make a version of a Jamie O recipe. Chuck a big tub of nat yog (Greek ff in this case) in blender with some frozen raspberries and blitz. JO adds honey, but it's good without.

Skandi - sympathy on the lack of sleep. My ds had got into bad habits recently and spurred by comments here I started CC a few nights ago. Last night he slept through - he's 2.5. So if you're not opposed to CC might be worth another try.
