Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

For Skandi just for you Grin

mumat39 · 30/01/2013 14:19

Ruprekt! That's amazing! Congratulations Thanks

Well done on the other losses too.

I'm confused about my scales. If anyone has a tanita inner scan monitor digital scale, do you know what the bit in decimal points means? I weighed in at 172.8 so does the .8 bit mean 0.8 or a pound? Or does it mean 8 oz?

I was 173 and the spreadsheet says I've lost .2 so I'm confused. Confused

The nightsky Grin

mumat39 · 30/01/2013 14:27

Skandi, can that be right that your're eating too many calories? I thought we could eat as much as we wanted as long as it's the right sort of stuff. If you're eating lots of fat then the calories will be high.

If that's the case for you then it will be for me but I don't want to eat less!

[hopeful emoticon]

Ruprekt · 30/01/2013 14:30

Thanks for the flowers mumat39.

I think the scales means 172 lbs and 8 oz. As there are 14oz in a pound that is quite a lot of weight and if you were making a cake you would be accurate with the oz's and not go massively over the required amount.

So you are basically 172lb and 8oz

Doshusallie · 30/01/2013 15:11

Skandi - BIWI will be along in a minute with a more scientific answer but I agree with Mumat39 - calorie levels should not matter. I probably eat the same amount in a day as you. No, you can't sit in front of a fridge and eat the entire contents, but I don't think the calories you are eating have a bearing at all if you are being low carb.

B - greek yog
L - celery with mayo and pate, raw mushrooms, cucumber with pate, some slices of mattesons smoked sausage.
S - one coffee with a splash of cream, a tablespoon of PB

BlackAffronted · 30/01/2013 15:24

Oh yikes, I think I eat way over 200 cals a day! probably over 300! I dont want to eat less, I love this way of eating :( Ive probably been very lucky so far, to be losing.

BlackAffronted · 30/01/2013 15:24

2000 and 3000, obviously! Blush

skandi1 · 30/01/2013 15:39

Grin At nightsky.

Additional research done and part of the problem is my lack of sleep. I am eating way more than I need to literally stay awake. Long term sleep deprivation makes you not only over eat but slows you down by way of additional cortisol released (causes insulin resistance).

So Mumat and blackaffronted, you are losing weight. Lots of it for both of you so you are clearly not overeating. I am eating less than 25g of carb a day but not losing and 3000 cals a day is quite a lot particularly as I am not doing any exercise at all.

So I can blame DS for my over eating. Wink

Unless of course BIWI has another explanation?

PostBellumBugsy · 30/01/2013 15:52

skandi, I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are you eating? Are you sure you are putting the right quantities into your carb counter?

JustasmallGless · 30/01/2013 16:01

Skandi
How many meals are you eating a day plus snacks? If you are fully on ketosis you shouldn't need to eat snacks as shouldn't be hungry

Try listing out your meals for us for yesterday

skandi1 · 30/01/2013 16:04

Post. I am sure. I have entered the correct amounts.

In week 1 BIWI asked me if I was eating enough fat (the whole egg white omelettes debacle) so I thought I was doing a good thing by adding two teaspoons of coconut oil to my herbal tea.

Well not such a good thing. I drink 6 or 7 cups of herbal tea during that and each tea spoon of coconut oil
Is nearly 50cals so I am consuming between 600 and 700 cals a day that I don't need through my herbal tea alone!

I eat plenty of fat. I fry in butter or coconut oil. My omelettes are done in coconut oil. I use olive or melted coconut oil as dressing for salads. Plus I eat tons of avocado. So I don't need to add all that fat.

So yes I see all your points about over eating. I am technically "over drinking" extra I don't need at all.

I also do eat extra when I am tired. And when I have had a really bad night with DS I eat way more than if I have had more sleep. Plus I drink more herbal teas and coffee with cream.

No doubt I need to run fast as BIWi will be here with her big stick momentarily. Smile

Ruprekt · 30/01/2013 16:06

Then you have to sort DS out tonight Skandi!

You NEED to sleep!

skandi1 · 30/01/2013 16:07

That should be 2 teaspoons of coconut oil in each cup. And nearly 50cals per tea spoon full. Doh.

I will list out meals little later once I cook DC dinner and wrestle them
Into bed (and manage to chuck decorators and electricians out of the house).

PostBellumBugsy · 30/01/2013 16:20

Skandi, I bow to your ability to consume so much coconut oil. It is supposed to be so good for us & some articles even say it speeds up metabolism - but I have only managed to use it as a cooking oil.

When you put it in your herbal tea, does it disperse, or does it sit on the top?

mumat39 · 30/01/2013 16:23

Ruprekt, thanks for the explanation.

Willie, does the spreadsheet take ounces into account? If not, maybe I shouldn't be entering them. It seems to have done a calculation of 173 - 172.8 to give .2. So I probably need to enter the 8 oz as a decimal so approx 172.5 ish.

Skandi, I'm sure BIWI or someone said in one of the earlier posts that you need fat to burn fat. (I think). I was actually going to post a question about other sources of fat than meat. I find fatty meat really unpleasant and can't actually stand to eat anything that is too fatty due to the slimy texture. Can I ask, what does coconut oil in a herbal tea taste like? Does the oil rise to the top? I tried making a coffee with cream the other day, but the cream seemed to seperate and they're was a film of oil that I couldn't drink. I think I'm a bit wierd that way. I'm very happy eating butter on food but need other ideas apart from olive oil and coconut oil to try and get more fat into my diet.

mumat39 · 30/01/2013 16:41

Skandi, I haven't lost that much really. Only 6 lbs which is only slightly more than you've lost. 4.5 of that was in the first week. But I do feel better for eating this way.

It sounds like you've got a lot going on at the moment, so it could be a combination of stress and a lack of sleep, which BIWI mentioned on her post about the dr briffa session she attended, which is causing you some problems.

I don't exercise at all really, and am going to do this by pretty much staying as I am exercise wise. I should do more, but I know that I can never sustain any regime I might start. So, I have stupidly decided that I don't want to lose weight by starting an exercise program that I will eventually stop and when i stop at that point I will put some weight back on again even if I am still on this way of eating. That's probably an odd way of thinking but I know I am crap at keeping going with excercising so I'm going to be doing the lazy version of bootcamp. Unfortunately it'll mean I lose weight slowly too but hopefully I can sustain the weightless for the longer term.

Ruprekt · 30/01/2013 16:42

I buy expensive butter and eat it with ham.

Double cream in most veggies.

Fry bacon in oil.

Cannot put cream in drinks. Just semi skimmed milk.

skandi1 · 30/01/2013 17:08

Post. I find coconut oil lovely. It tastes less coconutty than it smells.

I even tried to eat a spoonful on its on cold but no that had a funny texture (think cold lard but coconut taste).

It sort of floats on top of the herbal tea and adds a nice satisfying flavour to a hot drink. However I think it's not necessary to stick it in drinks unless you don't have salad and veg with oil or butter

An yes to stress and lack of sleep. Less stress and more the constant blanket of tiredness I wear.

PostBellumBugsy · 30/01/2013 17:13

I'm going to give it a go skandi. The thought of it makes me feel barfy - but if I don't try it I'll never know for sure.

skandi1 · 30/01/2013 17:20

Mumat. If you don't like cream in coffee I don't think coconut oil in hot drinks are for you.

Unlike you I like fatty meats. And oily fish and oil rich veg like avocado. And coupled with my love for coconut oil, I think I get plenty.

skandi1 · 30/01/2013 17:21

Ruprekt. You eat butter on ham! Hats off. That's hardcore. I couldn't do that. Cream cheese maybe but butter. Wow.

halfthesize · 30/01/2013 17:23

Just popping in, this thread is so busy and RL seems to be getting in the way. willie thanks for adding me to spreadsheet, didnt want to mess things upWink
Well done on all the lossesGrin

mumat39 · 30/01/2013 17:36

Hmm. I might try the coconut oil in a herbal tea. Maybe I'll just try 1 spoon.

I can actually eat coconut oil a spoonful at a time. But recently I've been finding that a bit too erm fatty. Confused

I have also heard that coconut oil is really good for the gut, but can't remember the 'science' behind it. Something to do with long chain fatty acids.

Ooh and I love avocados! Yum!

BIWI · 30/01/2013 17:37

skandi1 - you aren't on the spreadsheet, so I can't check how much you have to lose; apologies, you may already have told me but I can't remember!

I really don't think you should be worrying at this stage about calories. The critical thing at this stage is to get the proportions of fat/protein/carbs right. You say you're eating under 25g carbs each day, but what is the proportion of fat/protein/carbs in your diet at the moment? Does the app give you this information?

I'm more concerned that you are chronically sleep deprived as well as stressed at the moment. And if you just start cutting back on what you're eating, especially the fat, you are going to end up being hungry.
